Piloris and Eric expected their wedding and subsequent honeymoon to be epic.

Eric

After having all my dreams come true by getting matched at the same exact moment as my sister, followed by a super romantic double wedding in Hawaii, I thought life was going to be smooth sailing from now on. First we had our friend Klora’s wedding to attend, which was a fun highlight of our week-long honeymoon portion in Hawaii. Then we moved onto Basse-Terre, one of the two main islands of the French Caribbean archipelago, Guadeloupe. It’s an absolutely gorgeous place and having Stella and Kailirex along has been great. We each get enough couple alone time, and in between we hang out together and explore None of us expected a murder.

Piloris

I’d half expected to see Klora show up here as soon as we realized just where we actually were. Sure enough, halfway through our stay, he arrived with his mate, Adrian, in tow, unable to resist after Eric and Stella shared photos of us posed in front of the actual buildings used in one of his current favorite TV shows. Then a tourist who happens to also be a Mylos citizen by relation to a bride is found dead in the swimming pool of our hotel and it’s declared a possible homicide by local police. Klora can’t help himself and soon, we all find ourselves drawn in as he plays detective and ‘deputizes’ us. This is definitely not a game, and the stakes could be deadly for us all.

Leona is a longtime staunch supporter of human rights and environmental causes. Her favourite genre to read is M/M fiction and she particularly enjoys science fiction, fantasy, and action/suspense subgenres—especially if they have a nice seasoning of romance. She has far too many books on her Kindle, has overloaded her phone with even more and, when not reading, writing, being driven to distraction by her children, or being overlorded by her three cats, can be found trying to locate the portal that the sock monster uses to steal socks from her dryer.

I am so frustrated by this book. I realize that the mates series ties into the brides series but it has never felt like you had to read the bride series to enjoy these books... until now.

There is no introduction to the main characters, we don't get to see them meet, I know nothing about them. I get that they were introduced in the sisters book, but a lot of people that read mm books don't read mf.

It would have been nice if there was a recap of how they met, or maybe their whole story from their pov. Even if it was in the sisters' book, the authors could have done an excerpt or something!

Another thing that is bothering me is that the vibe or feeling of the writing is different from the rest of the series. It is much more flowery which is weird as this books is a mystery. I thought this was going to be a romance novel where I get to meet the two mates, but it is all about the mystery, I know nothing about the couple I don't know what they do for a living I don't know how they met... anything. it's not like the mystery itself is all that coherent either, it one point somebody was kidnapped and everybody went to search for the person then the chapter ended and the next chapter was they woke up in the morning. no resolution how did the search go did they find her what's going on with that? a lot of things like that.

Finally, there are a lot of typos. It is getting where I barely want to finish the book but I'm going to just to get through it. There are extra words that don't make sense in the sentences, there are missing spaces in between words so they run together. There are also many times where instead of the word her it says HR. It feels like nobody bothered to edit the book.

I will keep going with the series, but this book in particular is not my favorite. I really hope that the next book has a much better editing team or beta reading team that can catch a lot of these errors and issues.

I don’t know what happened with this book. It’s like it was written by a different author. No hate on cozy mysteries they can be great. Came into reading this after all the enjoyable feel good HEA romances in the series. This starts with no introductions to the characters. They are already together and head straight (no pun intended) into solving a crime.

I did not finish because I just couldn’t get into it.

Highly recommend all the other books in series.

I found this book to be very entertaining. The twists and turns to the case that the honeymooners found themselves a part of kept my attention throughout the story. The characters were great and I can't wait until the next book of the series. Recommend reading.
