Steamy Historical Romance

I love Scarlett’s work and I’ve read so many of them I’d be hard pressed to keep count. Scarlett’s a fantastic author and I love what she puts out there. I wanted to like this book, I really did, and there are lots of things to like but the whole regency BDSM vibe just didn’t hit the spot for me.
The main reason is, this doesn’t feel like BDSM to me, it feels like the MMC just wants to hurt/correct the FMC because of a perceived poor behaviour on her part, (he’s very rigid in his views of propriety which I felt could have been expounded upon) and then happens to get freaky in one way or another afterward. I felt enraged on her behalf but she didn’t seem to care, especially given he didn’t really explain anything mainly before the first sp*nking. The wedding night was what frustrated me the most, the way he took her virginity wasn’t passionate to me, and in a way that would have been painful for a virgin, and then to leave afterwards. I think that’s what I struggled with the most, no aftercare other than putting her to bed and leaving. I know men of the time didn’t particularly care but I felt it just needed something.
The things I loved about this book were the FMCs family, especially her big brother, the whole dynamic there I felt was perfect. I also loved the way the FMC faced her insecurities about being maternal to create genuine bonds with the MMCs sisters who obviously had never known love or fun.
The last part of the book I absolutely loved from the reconciliation, though he could have grovelled more, love a good grovel.
Rated 3* as I enjoyed everything but the bedroom/relationship dynamic (though ofcourse the spice was good - carriage scene was *chefs kiss*)

mixed feelings

I thought the story plot was good but written in quite a stilted way, kind of moving too slow or too quickly at times, especially in relation to the emotions of the H and h. I didn’t warm to the main male character at all. I thought he was largely lacking in both emotion, affection and too cruel and contrary at times. The ending really let the whole thing down…all of a sudden William turns up and expresses his love for his wife with no preamble. Furthermore, she just seems to accept this and his awful behaviour to her in the blink of an eye. Not great!

An Enjoyable Read but Epilogue Missing

I enjoyed this steamy story. Duke William wanted to marry I to the family of the Duke of Sarsen. He has found an agreement between their fathers. He offered to marry Dorothy the eldest sister but she was frightened. Catherine offered to marry him instead. They married but William felt that Catherine was not a correct Duchess and needed discipline to correct her errors. Catherine made friends with William's sisters and eventually managed to persuade William to spend some time with them. Gradually William and Catherine grew closer but a silly incident threatened their happiness. Will they be able to be together eventually? I liked the way William's sister, Hannah and Hester, grew to be happier at home and the way Catherine encouraged William to allow them to be children at times, rather than adults. There was not an epilogue, it was the prologue instead. I would have liked to learn more about William and Catherine rather than what happened before the story started. An enjoyable read.

A Duchess Disciplined: A Steamy Historical Regency Romance Novel (Dukes of Dominance Book 1) by Scarlett Osborne
Love me a good historical regency steamy romance and this one doesn’t fail. Come see what happens when a contract brings William Richards, Duke of Sarsen and Lady Catherine Leedway together. Leticia the shenanigans begin!!
The story is interesting, well-written. The characters are well-developed and have chemistry. All drama leads to a happily ever after. Would I recommend it: Yes

I received an advance review copy by said author via Amazon, for free, and I’m leaving this review voluntarily.

A bride demanded!

A well written story, with strong characters and a believable plot. Duke William arrives at the home of Duke Elias an$ his sisters, carrying a letter written by their fathers promising a bride for ones daughter? One had a son that week and the other a daughter. But the older girl has vowed to never marry, so to save her Catherine agrees to marry him! My only big complaint is when I went to read the extended epilogue, I got the prequel instead! That’s not what I wanted!

Challenge to propriety

When the Duke of Sarsen produces a marriage contract drawn up by their fathers, the Duke of Reeds has no choice but to allow his sister to marry him. But Catherine volunteers to marry instead of her older sister. Thus, stoic and aloof clashes with impulsive and argumentative. Interesting book, but the prequel and epilogue links are switched. Hopefully the author corrects this.

I'm really disappointed with this one. It had a great premise, but the end felt so sudden and rushed.

Beyond that, there are so many grammatical errors and inconsistencies. I do not usually notice things like that so I can only guess how many more I've not picked up. From spelling mistakes, to the use of wrong pronouns and sometimes even references of wrong character names.

Please get this to an editor and work on the final part of the book!

This is a well written story that grabbed my attention from the start. William was so strict and didn't want to love her, but didn't recognize that he already did love her. The friction between the two is great. His sisters and her family were great characters as well.

Hot and steamy

This is a wonderful romance that is based on feelings William fears loving Catherine as he has lost people he loves in his past but she soon teaches him to love not just her but his sisters as well

A steamy historical romance set in Georgian England. I was addicted to the enemies to lovers storyline. It was quite raunchy yet I read it so fast. Nothing really happens in this book and it is predictable but do I want to read more? Yes!

This novel had the potential to be great. Instead it turned out to be extremely dissapointing. Mainly because when I clicked the link for the Extended Epilogue, it only gave me the prequel chapters. I was left very unsatisfied with this development!!!

Entertaining Enough

I liked the story overall but felt the conflict flamed up and fizzled rather quickly. Some inconsistencies/editing errors took me out of the story a few times. However, overall I liked the it.

enjoyed the story’s

A bit irritated by the typos and also one particular error discussing cardinal birds which we don’t have in the UK. An easy thing to check.

A good book but was disappointed that the extended epilogue was supposed to be an extended story of William and Catherine but it was a prequel story
