Rate this book
Alone in Arabia, a young woman finds love and adventure among the dunesThe thought of another summer in Europe is torture to a brash young American like Temple Longworth. In turn-of-the-century society, she flits from party to party, until every soiree blends together, and every man she meets is just another dour old bore begging for her hand. As yet another young Englishman grovels for her affection, she realizes she does not want marriage--she wants adventure. And so, without a chaperone, and without a man, Temple sets out on the journey of a lifetime. She makes her way to Arabia, where she sees sights she never could have imagined. And when she's kidnapped and finds herself in the oasis palace of the mysterious sheik El Siif, she finds that love and desire go hand-in-hand, and that passion's flower grows even in the desert.

Nancy Henderson is the middle daughter of a Texas rancher and postmaster. She's been married for many years to Joe Ryan, a television executive. Hisoccupation has taken them from border to border and coast to coast. Fortunately, writing is something that can be done anywhere - and Nan shouldknow. The Ryans have lived in Washington, California, New Mexico, Colorado, Arizona, Missouri, Alabama, Georgia, Florida, and their own home state of Texas. Nan says it was fun to move around the country and honestly believes that it has helped her writing. The library and the Internet offer a great deal of information on any given place, but there is nothing quite likeactually living in a locale where a book is set.

She began her writing career in 1981. She flirted with writing mysteries, but never finished any. Then, as fate would have it, she saw an article in Newsweek magazine entitled "From Bedroom to Boardroom." It was an interesting story on the women who were writing romance novels. Nan was intrigued. She had never read a romance. She bought a couple, read them, and knew she'd found her calling. She sat down at the Smith Corona typewriter and began her own romance. The first one never left her house. It is burieddeep in a trunk and Nan says it will never be shown to anyone. Her second book sold and she's been writing since. Twenty-two romance novels later, shestill enjoys writing and realizes she's been blessed to have found what she loves to do.

The winner of numerous awards, Nan Ryan says one of the nicest things ever written about her was printed in the St. Petersburg Times. Correspondent AnnV. Hull wrote: "Romance novelist Nan Ryan could step right into the pages of one of her paperbacks. Tall and slender, with smokey eyes and pearly skin,Nan Ryan looks like movie star Jessica Lange's older sister. Ryan writes the most imaginative and bold love scenes, some of which would surely shock herformer teachers at Abilene Christian University."

I have been wanting badly to read this book, and finally was able too. Based on many of my goodreads friends description of the book, and surely thought I was going to fall in love with it, but something was missing. I got to really admire Sharif, he was a very strong, commanding, fearful, handsome person. Loved that he was a natural Leader, but i felt like he did not talk at all, i though that in the whole book, we were able to know about him, by other characters, but were not able to learn from him, by the way he spoke, or the way he reacted to events..I liked the story, but felt it lacking in a way.

I like this story it was cute and light. I'm trying to enjoy each book's story for what it is and its author's writing style, but it is hard to not want more. If Nan Ryan would have given more depth to the characters, if they had actually had deep and meaningful conversations, if the conflict between Arabs and Turks had been explain better, if they Sharif and Temple would have discuss more about his parents death, etc. this would have been a great book.

First time ever reading Nan's work and I wasn't disappointed. Hot and steamy if you like an Arabian Sheik kind of love story ... and I've been convinced.

Shades of Elvis and Lawrence of Arabia …. an escapist getaway with an American heiress and an Arabian sheik who abducts her. Good story tho it could have used more background info on the Arab and Turkish conflict. Highlights include the explicit, creative and lengthy sex scenes plus fierce tension filled attraction between the lovers. A nice touch: detailed descriptions of Arabia and Bedouin culture. Best part: Sheik Sharif Aziz Hamid .. a hunk of burning love and the heroine Temple DuPlessis Longworth … she set him on fire.

I was pleasantly surprised to like this book as much as I did. I expected it to be a bad 90s sheik romance novel. It did have some of the seemingly-requisite characteristics of a sheik romance--a West vs East dichotomy, the educated in the west hero, a middle Eastern bad guy, but this novel also had richly-developed characters and a lot of Bedouin culture. Of course, it also had a good dose of Stockholm syndrome for an otherwise strong female main character.

Temple Longworth travels to the Arabain desert to find adventure and finds herself captured by bandits. The leader of this band of capturers is Sheik Sharif Aziz Hamid. She hates him and wants him. He too finds her irresistible. A far-fetched story but an interesting story.

One of my favorite all-time romance novels!

A captive, forced proximity romance between an American Heiress and an Arab Prince. I absolutely loved the push and pull between the MCs. I've read this story many times over the years and it always makes me swoon.

Ho letto le prime 91 pagine, poi mi sono stancata. È noioso, non succede niente. Lui la rapisce, non si sa perché. Lei è arrabbiatissima, poi si diletta a cavalcare nel deserto. Mah.
