All I'm going to say right now is....

I loved this book, even the annoying characters and parts. I just loved it!

You know that moment, when you pick up a book and you can't put it down, you have to finish it no matter what? That's what happened to me. I couldn't stop reading, I was hooked. so many things happen in such a short period of time I LOVED IT!! I know that people may think this is an over reaction, but honestly I was in a slump......yes that's right another reading slump. That would be the fifteenth time this year. Anyway this book got me out of one. Lately I've been finding it hard to find a book that pleases me.

Charley is amazing, her life reminds me so much of mine when I was a teen in high school. The only difference is that I never did a boyfriend bet nor was it my sister that messed around with the guy I liked, it was my ex bestfriend. High school is a tough place for a lot of people, but for Charley it was so much worse, she was publicly humiliated by her sister and ex boyfriend, her mum didn't understand how wrong it was for her sister to hook up with her boyfriend and steal him away. Let's just say her home life was just as bad as her high school experience, that was until her new neighbours moved in. Well when they moved in things just got so much worse, but also soooo good!

Riley is the hot guy next door, perfect in every way you want him to be. That isn't the real him, he's a pompous ass and does whatever he pleases. He wraps girls around his little finger and uses them until he's bored.

Ella always seems to want to beat Charley at everything, she always has to outdo her no matter. She even goes to the extent of making herself look like a common hooker when she goes to school. She makes a bet with Charley and obviously she accepts.

As the book goes on you get to see how Charley has adapted to handling stressful situations and Jay seems to be a stressful situation to her all by himself. Jay is the annoying younger brother of Riley, so obviously him being Charley's age he likes to point out how ridiculous Charley is making herself look. Over time you come to realize how Jay actually feels about her and how their friendship has begun to blossom into something completely unexpected.

Jay and Charley are my end game couple for this book, I loved the dynamic of their relationship throughout the book. He is straight forward with her and tells her his honest opinion. It was an unexpected love, but boy was it good.

The Boyfriend Bet has a super cute premise. Charley's boyfriend has just cheated on her. In front of the whole school. With her sister. To make matters worse, Ella dumps him soon after without a care. Then Riley and his brother Jay move in next door. Not only is Riley super hot, but he also seems interested in Charley! Of course, Ella cannot have that and the two start a bet to become Riley's girlfriend first or else.

While I though the story was really cute, The Boyfriend Bet was just an okay read for me because of the characters. I didn't like any of them. They weren't horrible, except Ella who is suppose to be. But even Charley didn't sit right for me. She came across as bratty and annoying. Her best friends were just kind of there. Her mother had to be a complete idiot to not see how awful Ella is to Charley. Riley was a cocky jerk, and his brother Jay was just kind of there. I didn't find myself cheering for any of them.

The humor in The Boyfriend Bet was also not my thing. There's some gross out stuff, and some slapstick, and some just over-the-top scenes which were way overplayed for laughs. I wasn't laughing. It's just not the kind of humor that works for me. All of the jokes and embarrassing scenes felt forced and were obviously written purely for the joke and not because it really added anything to Charley's story.

In the end, The Boyfriend Bet was okay. The premise is great, even if the plot is unoriginal and predictable. I just wish I had connected more with Charley, or enjoyed any of the side characters.

It was such a predictable story. Whenever there's an annoying boy involved, the girls ends up with him, right?

To make matters worse, I wanted to strangle her idiotic best friend, Sarah, and it seemed the main character did, too.

Are siblings really this horrible to one another all the time? You'd think once her sister found out that people were talking crap about Charley, she would have been a bit nicer, right? But instead she just carries on being horrible.

The whole story was messy, and sad for the most part. I get that 16 year olds are shallow, but this kind of took the biscuit.

Good Message

A fast read that has a great message for young girls out there to be themselves and to not change for anyone, especially a guy.

It was good, cute story and there were some funny parts, Charley falling out of the tree house had to be my favorite part. I cringed in embarrassment for her. I didn’t like her mom. It seemed like she didn’t care about her kids.

Omg this probably the worst book I have read and that's saying a lot considering I read the Promise series by Jessica Wood! It starts off with Charlie's boyfriend cheating on her infront of all her classmates... With HER sister! Then it gets even better (insert sarcasm) because you get to meet there mother. This woman is awful! She is so self absorbed it's ridiculous. When Charlie tries to bring up Ella stealing her boyfriend and not apologizing the mother brushes it off and basically tells her to get over it. Umm bitch no! Then you meet their awful brother who is an ass and out of control. He throws a shoe that hits Charlie dead in the face making her bleed. Does the mother make her apologize of course not, she tells Charlie it's her fault. Excuse me who the fuck is it her fault?! Now let's get to Riley and Jay the new next door neighbors. Charlie has a thing for Riley, so of course Ella wants him and makes a bet she will get him after dumping Sam, Charlie's ex boyfriend that Ella stole. Oh we can't forget daddy dearest who mummy now has a thing for and basically ignores her children for because she is so far up her own ass that she can't possibly be a good mother. Riley and jay are polar opposites and Jay annoys the shit out of Charlie, but they have chemistry even if it's hostile at first. They are the only cute part about this book. If you have read this before purchasing do yourself a favor and save your money.

At the beginning of the story I was very into it. I like stories with similar premises, however, I didn't feel like this story was as great or lived up to the other stories I've read becuase the characters, mostly Charlie and her friends, annoyed me with their behavior and just the way they were written. Jay is the exception, I wish there was more of Jay. I also was dissapointed in the way things turned out. I would have like more substance before things in Charlie and Jay's relationship changed. It seemed to bland and out of nowhere how her feelings changed form being annoyed by Jay to haveing some tyoe of feelings for him and so on. Overall I would not recommend this book to my friends or anyone who is looking for a good book to read. I finished the book but only because I hate leaving books infonished and because I had hope that the book would get better ir at least have a good enough ending...it didn't.

Cute

I thought this story was pretty cute at the end, though the characters had a lot of flaws. I think the relationship between Charley and Ella was over dramatic. No one really hates anyone that much, it was a little two dimensional. In reality, I believe they'd feel a wider range of emotions for each other, rather then just pure hate.
The writing style was also slightly flawed. I feel like the author tried too hard to mirror a sixteen year old's voice, though at times, it worked okay.
Honestly (because I'm a hopeless romantic), Charley and Jay's relationship saved the book for me. They were super cute and frustrating, but perfectly mischievous in the end. I loved them!
Try this book if you're looking for something short and cute!

3.5 stars... Really cute story and I loved that they are English... I kind of would have liked a little more interaction building up to Jay and Charley finally getting together. You knew it was coming, but would have been nice to have a little more flirty back and forth between the two of them. Overall, very cute!

The was good but kind of predictable

Things didn't really change for charley Riley was just a jerk and Ella was to used to getting what she wanted

Meh, it had a cute ending I suppose. Even if it was a little predictable.
I just felt like I wanted to slap the main character, I just wanted it to end. Glad it was short.
