Thank you to Netgalley and Victory Editing for allowing me to read and review an advance copy of this book.

I'm sorry, but I found this book to be just ridiculous! It is so bad it's laughable! But just because I don't like it doesn't mean you won't like it. For example, if you enjoy books where the main character constantly has moisture pooling between her legs, sometimes from just a look from the love interest, then this is the book for you. If you love it when authors overuse words like "core" - seriously, that word is used twenty two times in this book, and Gretchen's core is always twitching and flexing! - then by all means, rush to pick up "Rush"! If you like the idea of insta-lust developing between two characters while they're trying to revive a dead man, if that sounds even remotely plausible to you and you can read it with a straight face, then "Rush" is your next favourite book.

I was hoping when I requested this book that I would find a diamond in the rough. I liked the premise of a tough, independent, serious female athlete being the main character. Although Gretchen does display these qualities some of the time, she alone was not enough to keep me reading this book. In the 90 pages of this book I read, I did not find anything remotely romantic or sexy. Almost everything out of Derrick's mouth made me cringe or gag, if not laugh out loud. And Gretchen was not much better with her flexing, twitching core and her gushing girly parts! This book was definitely not for me, and sadly this will be my last read from Violet Vaughn.

I read this as part of the Red Hot Lovers Boxed Set. I thought it was fun that this is an Olympic year and the story features an Olympic trials hopeful in snowboarding. This story tugged at me in two directions for over half of it and then about the last third, I finally settled in to truly enjoy it. It was one hot rush just like the title claims.

The book is the third book in the Boys of Winter series. It was the only one I've read from the series and easily worked as a standalone though I'm pretty sure a few of the surrounding characters were the main people in the earlier books.

Another thing to note about this book/series was that each of the books and the series have been renamed and re-released as the Snow Kissed Love series and this book as Rush for Love. I've chosen to review it under the old title and series because I'm pretty sure that's the edition that was used in the Red Hot Lovers boxed set based on the release dates, but also I'm not sure if the newer one might have new edits that weren't present in this one.

As to the story, it begins when Olympic hopeful, Gretchen Nickelson is on her way back to Colorado after visiting her folks. She had dropped out of school between her Bachelor's and Master's in Physical Therapy to make a run at an Olympic spot in snowboarding. She has the impression that her family disapproves of her so insists on going it all alone, thus the cruddy car and the extra jobs around the resort town of Breckenridge, CO while she trains.

Just as her flight nears Denver, her seat partner dies and as a result, Gretchen encounters the intense and overwhelming Derrick Hamilton for the first time. Gretchen is a confident, take-charge gal when it comes to men. They are merely there for her to use for mutual sex partners. She likes it rough and hard, but nothing that veers toward a relationship or she bounces. But for the first time in her life, she has met her match. Derrick's mere look can make her go weak and unsure. He's nothing like her usual tatted up, scruffy bad boy types in his clean cut studying medicine- ski patrol good looks. Derrick's gorgeous model, warm-hearted twin sister is also an unexpected encounter.

Between the two Hamiltons, Gretch is off balance and can't find center. She goes about her work at the country club bar and the sports center while preparing for the Olympics and getting with her circle of friends, but now she has the smoldering, hot, and controlling Derrick driving her libido and brain insane and his sister becoming one of Gretchen's circle. For the first time, Gretchen faces the terrifying prospect of a relationship. Will she run or learn what it is like for herself?

Alright, so this one is about a bold, sexually confident woman who is a strong commitophobe. This was not a deep story and unapologetically is strongly erotic. It races into things and then backs off to develop. The first half of the book was unsettling because I struggled to 'get' the heroine and I really didn't care for the way some of the sexy stuff was described (and mostly how often). The sexy stuff is a huge component and it's not until well into the second half of the book that significant development starts to happen. I found the last half well worth slogging through the horny college kid stuff in the beginning. To each their own and this obviously over-balanced into too much for me.

As to characters, this is Gretchen's story. She is the sole narrator in first person voice. She was an interesting heroine for me because of her personality. As a snowboard competitor and a tomboy, much of her personality and spirit made sense. Gretchen is athletic, but she also has to work hard for her achievements. She's also got other facets to her character that kept me intrigued and confused. She is part of a posse of girl and guy friends. They know her well and she is open and trusting with them. But her strong aversion to relationships and opening up to a guy when she's into him confused and distracted me. Why was she like this? There was never an explanation for it and it wasn't family issues or being burned in the past. All I can figure is that until Derrick came along, she hadn't understood love and relationships even though they were all around her. She played a game until it was no longer a game.

And speaking of the game, this book was hot in a sloppy ewww sort of way. Gretchen spent most of the book 'wet', 'core clenching or quivering' or sniffing at Derrick and other guys' scent- lots of talk of pheromones and people attracted by scent. The way she scented her gal-pal roommate liking her sweaty scent really amped up the ick factor on this one for me. My imagination didn't conjure up sexy at the mention of sweat and people odor so I was squirming, but not in a good way.

Beyond that, the romance was hot and wild. They jumped each other quickly and went at it with bold abandon. There was no hem-hawing or playing coy for this pair. Knew what they want and boldly grabbed it. Whew, yeah, scorching hot as only two New Adults can go at it. And there was an element in this one that played with the BDSM Dominant/submissive, but never quite vested in it totally when it came to Derrick and Gretchen. They both like it rough, but he is in control and likes to restrain her. She starts out needing control, but discovers she likes handing it over to him in the bedroom. So yeah, interesting stuff going on there with this pair.

Beyond those hang-ups, I enjoyed the setting, the circle of friends, and I really liked that the author didn't stint on sharing Gretchen participate in training routines for her sport. Gretchen was an athlete in training and it felt pretty authentic. Lots of good snowboard work once winter hit and the sponsor photoshoot was interesting. While I never understood why Gretchen had her issues, I did come to enjoy the process of her growing so that she was able to work through her fear and reach for what she really wanted. I liked seeing that while Gretchen is the main character, Derrick's backstory and situation were detailed in and he also grew and learned how to be in a relationship.

All in all, this was one hot rush. I liked it, but wasn't entirely into it. Those who enjoy scorching New Adult Contemporary Romance might want to check out this series.

My thanks to the authors for the opportunity to read the set of stories in exchange for an honest review.

Another DNF for me. I am being pretty hard on books at the moment. If I am able to put it down, walk away and think... "geez, I don't know if I want to go back to that", then I am freeing myself to NOT go back to it.

This one was one of those.

I did not connect with either of the main characters. I found the storyline to be overly wordy, overly descriptive, waaaaaaaay too detailed to be enjoyable. I don't need pages and pages of words that have no relation to the story other than to create more words in a book. I don't care how she serves beer, or cleans her teeth, or runs a bath. None of that makes any difference to the story other than to make me want to skip pages and pages to get to the good bits.

This read like a skateboard chick and a uptight ass getting it on and lots of details about their boring lives. I cared so little about them the good bits were like watching a crap porno.

Harsh. Just not for me.

WOW! This was really a hot steamy read! I LOVED LOVED LOVED Gretchen! She's our heroine and she is bad-ass! LOL And our hero, Derrick, is not so bad himself! I really liked the depiction of these two. They matched. Really well.
I love reading 'sport' romances and this was new to me, the skying aspect. It made it more interesting to me. Violet Vaughn is a creative story teller, knowing exactly how to keep the reader's attention. I couldn't put this down!
Yes, I read this out of order so I was just a tiny bit lost with the characters at first, but it took nothing away from the story. When a story is told as well as this one was, it's ok to skip around a series! BUT, I will NOW be adding this series to my TBR and other Violet Vaughn books ASAP!

wow I thought I had reviewed this book when I had read it. Let me start by saying that I love sports romances and this one is a little different. Violet Vaughn is quite the story teller. Gretchen is a bad ass character and I absolutely loved her. And of course Derrick our hero isn't so bad himself. These two characters literally burn the pages our of the book. I really enjoyed it.

Title: Rush
Author: Violet Vaughn
Series: Can be read as standalone
Cliffhanger: No
Release Date: October 22, 2014
Rating: 3
HEA:

Rush is the third book in the Fire and Ice series. Rush follows Gretchen Nickelson and Derrick Hamilton. Gretchen is the best friend of Casey from the first book and a snowboarding Olympic hopeful. Snowboarding is her life right now and men are only for a good time. That is until she meets Derrick. Derrick is a new character that we haven’t meet in the series yet. He is moving to Colorado and is a new member of the mountain patrol since he is going to be a doctor. As Gretchen becomes friends with Nika, Derrick’s brother, she starts to get closer to Derrick. Gretchen and Derrick both want a no strings attached relationship but that doesn’t quite work out how they planned.

Gretchen is working on being on the Olympic snowboarding team. So she has no time for relationships. But the relationships that she has had have not been fulfilling. I didn’t connect with Gretchen like I did with Lori in Release. And with her being a snowboarder she didn’t seem to do a lot of snowboarding. Maybe I’m wrong but if you are an Olympic hopeful aren’t you going to find some way to practice all year round? Derrick was a jerk at first so it took a while to warm up to him. After a while he was a lot nicer and I liked him better. He wasn’t my favorite of men of the series. I think that we don’t get to know him well enough.

This book might be my least favorite of the Fire and Ice series. As a light, quick read for the beach or when you don’t have anything else to read, this is a good series to read. The story and characters needed to be developed more. And the relationship happened to fast to be believable. Especially since they were both so against relationships and commitment, but they got into a committed relationship very fast. If there was some sort of build up or at least a conversation about it I might have believed it. As it is in the book they acted as if that is what they have always done. There just needed to be more.

I received a complimentary copy of this book through NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

if 1/2 stars were allowed, I might have given this book 2.5 stars.

Rush was the first Violet Vaughn book that I have read. I truly loved that her female characters are strong both physically and mentally. I also appreciated that the use of expletives was kept to a minimum (which seems to be a rare thing in the erotic romance genre). The main character, Gretchen, is well developed, but the other characters could have used some beefing up. I did not buy the attraction between the two main characters, Gretchen and Derrick. I found the depiction of Derrick's scowling disappointment to soul mate unbelievable. I couldn't imagine a self-assured, independent young woman, like Gretchen, finding a guy attractive when she believed he looked down on her.

The plot is rather thin; the story is primarily about twenty-something ski bums having fun and hooking up. For most of the book, the plot points are basically stepping stones from one sex scene to the next. It isn't until the last 30-40 pages that the reader gets a story beyond the bedroom. Once Ms. Vaughn adds some meat to the story, it became more interesting. While tweet-somethings looking for fun and enjoying life is believable, it doesn't provide much substance for a story. As a light, quick read for the beach or poolside, this is a good choice.

Ms. Vaughn's writing is technically good, and with more development in her story-telling, she will be an excellent author to follow. I'm looking forward to more from Violet Vaughn and her strong, independent female characters.

I enjoyed this book so much Gretchen even though that girl doesn't want to admit it Derek is it for her, "that doesn't erase the grin on my face, or the way my body is tingling in anticipation of seeing Derek tomorrow night. Yeah, I want his everything." Derek he has a great way with words, "ride me, Gretchen. Eff me hard and fast." Gretchen likes to tease her man, "I lick my lips seductively and say, "I can't wait to sink my teeth into that steak." Dropping my eyes to his crotch I think the bulge twitches a bit, and a satisfied grin covers my face." Derek literally can make any girl drop her panties so I truly think that Gretchen has caught herself a fine catch, "I'm going to drive into you so effing hard you'll have all of me, and I won't stop until I've filled you with my come." Oh yeah this book was fun to read.

I loved it! Violet Vaughn brings yet another awesome instillation in her Fire and Ice series!

We all know Gretchen from her previous novels....Gretchen is fun and playful and isn't into the whole romance and flowers thing - she wants to keep it simple...sex and that's it and when the guys starts falling for her she cuts him loose.

Enter Derrick, med student that's come to Breckenridge for the winter to be on the ski patrol and to be with his model sister. his feelings on romance are the same as Gretchen's. Sparks fly when they meet and things progress into an actual relationship but you'll have to read to find out more! ;)

Totally believable characters and Violet's writing makes you feel as if you're actually there! Great read and I'd totally recommend it as well as the other books in the Fire and Ice series!

Could have been better

I read the other 2 in this series and I loved them. It's a good read. It took me forever to finish the book I could only deal with so many "musky scent" descriptions in any given chapter
Or the oversexualized scenes of eating salty food. Really? Why not just get naked and suck on a salt lick
It's a great story and for the most part very well written .....but when every scene in every chapter has some sort of musk description going on - derricks, the dogs, the best friend (????)... I started to wonder if gretchen had some sort of olfactory disorder. You might as well bust out the booze and start a drinking game. It was very distracting and not in a hot and sexy way
If you can get past the musky scents that are heavy in every scene and the really salty food scenes....it's not a bad read

This was hands down my favorite of the Fire and Ice series so far. I loved Casey and Lori's stories as well, but this one with Gretchen just had the best story line to me and it was super steamy. Gretchen is Casey's best friend and pro snowboarder who decided to move from VT to CO to pursue her Olympic dreams. She meets Derrick, who is taking a break before med school. He moves from NH to CO with his sister. Initially Derrick and Gretchen are only looking for some fun, but as they get to really know each other, their walls start to come down and a relationship forms. Gretchen has finally met her match.

It is a great romance with an immediate, fierce attraction between them as soon as they meet under unusual circumstances. They both think they are not each others type but find that maybe that is a good thing after all. They are looking for fun not love and don't do relationships well. She is a little intimidated by his wealth and it causes some issues when he wants to help her with money. When they are together, they can't keep their hands off of each other and they both like it a little rough and wild. It you want a very hot romance, this is a great choice.I received a copy from the author in return for a honest review.

I am a fan of the first 2 books and this 3rd one didn't disappoint. Derrick is also my kind of guy and I can relate to the character of Gretchen in the sense that she looks a certain way on the outside, but inside, she is a soft, sexy, romantic girl at heart. If you fall into the category of girls who like some reviewers here find these kind of scenarios unbelievable or implausible, then this book is not for you. But if you are like me where this kind of stuff does and has happened in some form or another in your life, then you will love this.

This was a first time read by this author for me....and while it is a somewhat outside by usual read I found this to be an engrossing read. I have not read any of the other books in the Boys of Winter series, but did not feel like I needed to pick up the previous book to catch up. The story got my attention right from the beginning and held it throughout, but I found it a little slower than my usual read and while this is not a bad thing it would make it more difficult for me to pick up any others in the series. I did like the writers style and may try something else by her in the future.

I received a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. Another great story in this series. One of the things I love about these books is that they make me smile a lot, some things that the characters do are too cute. The storylines are unusual, in that when couples are not couples, there is always somebody else in the picture, but they are not really antagonists. Derrick is a sweetheart, though he doesn't admit to it. Gretchen is strong and stubborn. I can't wait to read the rest of this series.

Holy moses, this was the hottest book in the series so far. it just keeps getting better! Gretchen is such a fun, likable character and so different from the usual heroine stereotypes. While there were some heartbreaking moments and I found myself preparing for the moment I knew was coming, the author went in a different direction. Cannot wait for the next book...this series is my new favorite addiction!

What a "Rush"! I have been enjoying this series from the start and it just keeps getting better and better. Rush is my favorite so far. I've always loved Gretchen, but her book is just great. OMG, Derrick...yum. I liked him from the get-go. I get very involved in these stories and was so mad at one point, I had to walk away from my Nook. I didn't go far, though, as I HAD to know what happened next. I was not disappointed.

Received the book for an honest review. This is the first conventional romance novel that I've read by Ms. Vaughn and I can say that I truly did enjoy it. The story has a strong and independent female lead, Gretchen, who finds herself sexually attracted to Derrick. Derrick is not the typical guy she's attracted to, but that doesn't stop sparks from flying when the two finally get together. There's romance, hot smexy scenes and happy ending to melt your heart.

Such a promising story

Gretchen and Derrick are supposed to be magnetically drawn together by chemistry however I never felt that. Derricks glares at her. What? I'll skip the rest of this series.
