Lavender Love Songs: a collection of cozy sapphic novellas

Rate this book
The love stories of three Toronto sapphic couples take center stage in Lavender Love Songs. Comprising of three previously published novellas, Lavender Love Songs features three unique, warm, and cozy, queer love stories. While each story is a standalone, appearances from the interconnected cast of characters do take place. To avoid spoiling each individual story, reading in chronological order is advised.

In Act Two, Gabriella Adams never anticipated her ex, Jenna Daniels, to waltz back into her life seeking a friendship. Now the woman must confront her lingering feelings while questioning what truly ended their relationship—and whether their past should stop them from having a future.

In Room for Two, Stephanie Richards has always harbored feelings for her best friend, Beatrice Cohen. But when circumstances bring Bea under her roof, their close quarters reveal the attraction is mutual—leaving both women to question if they should preserve their friendship or

take a chance on something more.

In Song For You, Brodie Bailey encounters artist Taylor Evans at their friends’ wedding, who unexpectedly rekindles their creative fire. When Brodie agrees to model for a painting for Taylor, their artistic collaboration develops into something deeper than either anticipated.

Fall head over heels for the Lavender Love Songs collection by grabbing this bind-up.

By pure coincidence I ended up meeting the author of this book at the indie bookstore I bought it from, and I’d like to think I had my own little indie book moment

Each story just got better and better let me tell you

Act two. It just went by so fast. in terms of pacing and just by lesbian standards. Because what do you mean we’re getting engaged in six months?!?!?? I do wish we could’ve spent more time with them and had their story more fleshed out.

Also something that I found apparent in this story is that it’s very torontonian. Which I really appreciate in terms of “representation” and relatability and having those inside jokes but they were a bit jarring at times. It’s in all three stories but it’s implemented much better in the other two

Room for two. My personal favourite. I mean it’s a best friends to lovers and a forced proximity and an mc that’s so incredibly down bad like cmon now. And the coffee shop x bookstore sounds incredible im so jealous

Song for you. In terms of quality I think this is the best one objectively. The pacing is a lot slower which lets the story be more fleshed out and the characters be more developed and detailed, which especially is beneficial with a strangers to lovers (and also why I can excuse the pacing on the other stories, since those characters already know each other). The romance was really sweet and they had the best chemistry

I also like that they’re all interconnected, it makes the individual stories feel longer and lets us get more attached to them and the universe that they’re in

In conclusion: Support your local sapphic indie author 🥰

This was honestly the best Sapphic Romance collection I have ever read and I am in awe of the writing about 3 different couples of characters including a nonbinary character who I have fallen in love with!!! Love is love and it should be normal to feel however we feel. This collection was my true awakening that I am in fact Nonbinary myself and I love this!

Act Two

I broke up with her - so she could advance her career in acting by leaps and bounds, even though it killed me inside. But now she’s back, and damnit I am in love all over again! Will this be permanent this time, or another situationship? Maybe it’s time to make this a permanent thing before I lose her again!

Jenna x Gabriella

Room for Two

When a toilet explodes and lands two “besties” as roommates, but one has had feelings that are definitely not platonic for the other, where will this lead? All you really need is books and coffee and cuddles right? Maybe pizza and a little more action than the movies?
Also who said love had to be complicated and not just be love?

Bea x Stephanie

Song for You

Two artists meet at a wedding and fall in love, should be standard right? Wrong! They believe they are just being professional with each other! Brodie just wants to be invisible while they find the spark for their music, but then Taylor walks in with her painting supplies and it’s all hands and hearts on deck for their mutual friend's wedding! So what happens when they confess to each other and find out it was not professionalism?

Lavender Love Songs is a book composed of novellas, and each one was more wonderful than the last. Also, having all of the couples end up being friends was pretty cool.

Gabriella and Jenna are the first couple, and it’s so sweet to see them blossom and grow. “Gabs” goes through a lot to become more open and honest, and ends up with Jenna as a reward for the hard work.

Bea and Steph are the next couple. I was almost sad because of how their story started, but it created some ~drama~ and who doesn’t love that in a story? Best friends to lovers isn’t a trope I usually read, but I enjoyed it.

Finally, we have Brodie and Taylor. Brodie is nonbinary and I was so happy to see the overall queer representation in these stories. Both characters are artists, and end up working together in such a fun way!

I really loved reading their stories. 5/5

Such cute and cosy sapphic stories, which I would especially recommend for lovers of spice. I really enjoyed reading these quick paced, short novellas. They were a nice break from my usual fantasy novels, allowing my brain to take a break and just enjoy the ride. I especially liked the last story, Song for You, which featured a non-binary character, Brodie, who previously made their appearance as a side character of the previous short story. I liked getting to know more about them and their journey of coming out to the people close to them and finding someone to love them in an unexpected place.

This collection of novellas is a sweet comfort read. Centered in the same universe, readers enjoy familiar and likeable main characters, varied representations, and supportive side characters. I've enjoyed being an ARC reader for this author and look forward to reading more of their stories.

I received an ARC of this collection and am voluntarily leaving this review.
