Caliburn University isn’t like other colleges. It's small, exclusive, and old in every sense of the word. Latin is required. Dorms look like castles. And the fencing team never loses a match. It's the kind of place you have to be brilliant to get in, but insane to actually attend.
Trust me--I would know.
I'm coming to Caliburn to escape--escape my parents, escape the aftermath of my so-called breakdown, but mostly to escape the girl I was. Unstable. Delusional. Dangerous.
All I have to do is study hard, achieve everything, and don't get in any trouble, and I'll prove I'm not damaged goods. Prove I can pursue my passion without losing my mind.
But when my darkest secrets are exposed, the reigning queen of campus decides to make my life a living nightmare. With every day a fresh kind of torture, I'm so close to breaking--and this time, there won't be any coming back.
Then they close ranks around me.
Kingston, the cold, golden boy with the weight of the world on his shoulders. Kai, his hotheaded foster brother who fights dirty. Lanz, all soft smiles and gentle stares. And Callahan—the youngest, the pure-hearted gentle giant.
Four boys with blades, the elite swordsmen of the Caliburn fencing squad. They train like monks, live like princes, and look at me like I’m a threat...or a miracle. Or both.
Everyone else avoids me like I’m cursed. But the four of them circle closer. Sworn to protect something sacred… something I don’t understand.
Because everything I tried to escape?
It followed me here.
And the truth is?
I was never just another student.
I'm the one who's going to put their training to the test.
The Black Table is the first in a new paranormal/fantasy why choose series inspired by the legend of King Arthur with a dark academia, secret society twist. The story contains themes or scenes of bullying, mental illness, and self-harm; offers multiple love interests for the heroine that she won't have to choose between; and features sword-crossing in both senses of the term (IYKYK).
This is an interesting setup for what can be a great story. The modern twist on knights was hotter than I thought it could be. the MMCs are hot and kinda like a boy band. We have the golden retriever good boy, the gentle giant, the Bad boy and the stoic sirius one. The book convoys an intricate setting in a dark academia vibe and it presents an overview of most of the characters but it feels like just the world building bit and the plot is kinda missing. it's really intriguing and I want to know how the story continues but I wish I could have just read the whole series in one swoop.
Thank you to the author and NaughtyBookPr for trusting me with an eARC.
So I saw many good reviews and many knew what they were reading about, but me - I had zero clue about what was going on. I tried to understand, since the story built up quite intensely. The earlier chapters lead me on to some grand big plot reveal, but at last I couldn’t find the one satisfying… Maybe I don’t have enough knowledge on the plot inspiration. But aren't the retelling and mythology-inspired stories supposed to give more insight into them? That’s the whole point, at least that’s what I believe. So, I have read many mythology-inspired books and series, and I never knew about mythology before at all. The books and series gave me awareness of it, and you could say they educated me on it. And, the unmatched story pauses confused me while reading, and to add I couldn't see much development in the character arc and character relevance from different POVs. Like the characters sound different in their POV, while they seem completely different from other POV - well, you can say that’s each character's view of them, still, I felt a bit uneasy on that. Finally I get the trope of MMC being obsessed, but for some characters, it felt forced. I understand that it is 1st book in a potential series, and I am not sure about continuing them.
This book hasn’t even been released to the public yet and I am on my knees BEGGING for book two! Don’t get me wrong, I’ve always been a sucker for anything King Arthur related but this book HITS in so many different ways.
Legendary “Holy Grail”? Yes. Mystery upon mystery upon mystery that you’re dying for answers to? Check. Multiple POV? Give me more. REVERSE HAREM? Yes yes YES.
I’m obsessed with every member of this story and I am heavily invested in everyone’s wellbeing. That’s including the best friend/roommate that I miss when she’s not actively in the story. This series is going to ruin me.
You know when a book just surprises you in the best way? That’s exactly what The Black Table by Jade R. Evans did. I went in thinking “Okay, a modern King Arthur knights vibe? Sounds cool,” and came out completely obsessed. It felt like discovering a secret tucked away in a library you didn’t know existed – dark academia meets ancient legend, with a twist that actually worked (and that’s not always easy to pull off!). I just love when a story doesn’t follow the usual path, and this one had so many layers and secrets, it kept me glued to the pages. I finished it with that fizzy feeling in my chest – part excitement, part please tell me when the next book is out. 😍🖤
💖 What I Loved About This Book: That Plot?! So Juicy and Unexpected 🍇 The storyline was layered in the best way – secrets upon secrets, with little puzzle pieces slowly snapping into place. I loved how the world unfolded bit by bit, teasing just enough and leaving you desperate for more. And the mystery? Ohhh it gave! That delicious kind of tension where you’re dying to know what’s really going on.
Swords and Spells and Secret Societies ⚔️🔮 YES to modern knights-in-training and forbidden touches. The dark academia vibes were immaculate. There’s a slow-burning intensity between the characters that simmers beneath every interaction. Add in swordplay, a sprinkle of paranormal, and a twisty secret society? Sign me up for the next instalment yesterday. 🙌
The Guys? Mysterious and Messy in the Best Way 💘 Each of the men had something totally different to offer, and I loved how emotionally layered they were. It’s not insta-love, and it’s definitely a slow burn, but the relationships are so intriguing and feel like they're heading somewhere beautifully complicated.
The FMC Quiet Strength, No Apologies 💫 I really loved how she just was who she was – no pretending, no over-the-top drama. She’s skilled in what she loves, and she doesn’t need to shout about it. There’s something so refreshing about a female character who doesn’t expect more than what she has, but still holds her ground. She felt real in that way – like someone who’s figuring things out but still quietly powerful in her own space. I’m so curious to see how her relationships grow in the next book, especially with how much potential is brewing beneath the surface. 🖤
🫶 The Tropes: Reverse Harem (slow-burn, emotionally intense) with MM College / Dark Academia Secret Society Arthurian Legends (modern-day magic!) Bullied FMC (not by the guys) Forbidden Touch Knights in Training Hidden Powers Virgin MMC Rivals to Protectors
✨ Ending Summary: The Black Table was like diving into a magical maze – full of secrets, dark halls, sword fights, and slow-burning tension. I loved every second and I’m desperate for book two. If you’re craving something unique with Arthurian flair, broody boys, and a FMC you can truly root for, then please give this a go! 🖤⚔️
The Black Table is a slow burn, why choose, dark romance. This book was not what I expected at all. It is inspired by the legend of King Arthur, and this story is truly intriguing with its paranormal and spiritual elements. Gwenna is the new girl at Caliburn University. Caliburn is a very small, old college that focuses on Latin and other very traditional areas of study. All of the students are brilliant and Gwenna is no exception. But Gwenna is at Caliburn for her own reasons. She needs a fresh start where no one knows her and she can hopefully have a normal life. Kingston, Kai, Lanz and Callahan are the most wanted at Caliburn. They are the mysterious members of the fencing team. They don’t date. They vow to be celibate and are dedicated to keeping those vows. On the surface they are just the spoiled rich boys with overbearing and oppressive parents, but there is more to their story, their vows and their mission. Gwenna and the knights will be inexplicably entwined from the moment she steps foot on campus. Secrets will be revealed, vows will be tested and ultimately a cliffhanger will appear. I am all in and ready to see this story to the end. I can’t wait for the paranormal elements to reveal themselves. I feel like this journey is going to go in a very interesting direction.
Oh shit, this one totally surprised me! A lil modern take on King Arthur, but make it reverse harem, dark academia/Gothic, and I beg your finest pardon but fencing?! Idk how she made that hot but it WORKED.
If you know the King Arthur story, you can piece together who everyone is based on names alone. But there are enough twists and turns to keep this interesting and fresh. I was sucked in from the first few pages, loved the writing style and the careful reveal of backstory elements and context. I’m kind of obsessed with the fmc, Gwenna - she might be one of the few heroines I’ve read who is described as brilliant and the author actually SHOWS us she’s brilliant, vs. telling us she is and then we all have to watch another bland fmc succumb to body betrayal disease. There’s none of that here, and I tell you, I rejoiced.
This ends on a cliffhanger, and I found myself so invested in all of these characters that I’m sat here waiting for book 2!
The Black Table by @jade.r.evans | Available August 15th!
Thank you so much for the opportunity to read this ARC and give my opinion!
First @jade.r.evans writes an amazing Why Choose Robin Retelling NOW she’s created a sexy mysterious Why Choose King Arthur Retelling in a college setting!
I really loved The Black Table. I think it’s a great start to the series. I am left with so many questions that I’m hoping are answered in the next book! I really enjoyed all the characters - especially Morgan as well as references Arthurian legend.
I’m looking forward to the next book and to pick up my physical copy from Romantically Yours!
If you like the following, you’ll love this book: -Slow burn -King Arthur Retellings -Sword Crossing (MM, but also fencing) -Why Choose -Forbidden Romance -Dark Academia/College setting -Academic Puzzles -Secret Society -Multiple POVs
First, I want to say that this story was incredible. I was initially pulled in by the promise of the inspiration of the legend of King Arthur, which I LOVE. But then they threw in a reverse harem (that includes sword crossing), a dark academia setting - omg it's an overload of tropes I need more of in my life. I am OBSSESSED! I think Gwenna is a great FMC. She's real, she's no nonsense and she really just wants to exist. Throw in four MMCs - can I just say how much I adore Callahan?
This is a spectacular read and I'm almost sad that it ended on a cliffhanger, but I KNOW I will be there for the rest of the series!
This was a really interesting set up for a modern knights of the round table kind of story.
This not a normal collage. It's filled with Gothic architecture, latin requirements, untold secrets and where fencing is entirely too revered.
This is a sloooooow burn but all the pieces are lining up. Gwenna is here running from her past but maybe she isn't as crazy as she thought? The men are all intense, unique and sworn to chastity.
I'm super intrigued about where this story is going and that little nugget at the end made me wish the next book was out already. There are so many things going on and I need to see how it plays out.
Jade R. Evans shows again she is a master with the why choose and retelling genre. The Black Table is a dark academia, why choose, slowburn romance book where the FMC doesn't have to choose between her MMC's. The book is a sort of retelling from King Arthur and I screamed from happyness! I had so much fun reading this book!
Our FMC Gwenna is a new student at Caliburn University and tries to put as little attention on her as possible. With everything that happend in the past she just want to have a normal time at school.
Que in the four MMC's in this book. And my oh my... Jade gave them all so much personality, I want them all! They are mysterious and broody and I can't wait to learn so much more about them in the second book!
This book was amazing from start to finish and if you like a good why choose, slow burn, dark academia story The Black Table is the one to pick up next!
I for one can't wait to dive into the next book of the series!
Thank you Jade R. Evans and Naughty Nook PR for this ARC to read and review.
To say I ATE this up would be a tragic understatement. I fell harder for this book than I would slipping on ice.
“All I’m saying is, Mr. Pendragon, is that that is no ordinary young woman you’re dealing with. But…what do I know? I’m just a silly old man.”
I love our four knights. Someone else described them as a boy band and I kinda loved that. They’re all keeping this secret together and it’s not quite clear in this first book what that secret is.
Our FMC. Gwenna. My mysterious dark academia QUEEN. I loved her. I love her brain. I love everything about her.
Morgan? 10/10 side character GIVE ME MORE.
Also the slow burn🥵 you’re telling me an accidental kiss is all that happens in this book?! That’s what I’m talking about when I say slowwww burn. The YEARNING.
It was entertaining enough for me to finish but I dragged so much. Nothing is ever explained and there really isnt any fantasy aspect to this at all. The only thing is her seeing a ghost. I still don't understand their vows, how it affects whatever they're doing, and how Gwen is connected. You don't get any sort of 'reveal' until the last few pages. All very confusing and not explained at all.
what in the abomination is this …. essentially a canterbury tales spinoff / magic / smut / why choose series … why’s it good though? i think it’s also terrible and then therefore good but honestly … im eating this up and yes ill be finishing the series, no questions (shout out to the four mmc’s callahan, kingston, lanzelan and kai… can you see what the author did there….) and yes before you ask, the fmc is the holy grail aka gwenna….
I’ve found the Holy Grail of Arthurian legend inspired romantasy, so grab your sword and defend your heart! ⚔️
I knew going into my read of The Black Table, I’d be getting a steamy, college style take on the Knights of the Round Table but the "why choose" of it all snuck right up on me. I was just minding my own business, falling for one MMC when BAM Jade R. Evans said "actually you're getting FOUR and you're going to be grateful" and honestly? She was right and I am.
Firstly, it’s important to know that Caliburn University is like Hogwarts’ mysterious older sibling who went to Oxford and came back with steadfast honor and SECRETS. In this setting, our FMC Gwenna is a bit of a fish out of water, simply trying to attend school and be normal (even if she’s anything but). Our girl is dealing with some heavy stuff and the author masterfully handles mental health rep with respect and care, while still delivering on all of the fantasy escapism I crave.
Now, the literal second our four MMCs showed up I was ready to THROW HANDS (and throw it back) for every single one of them. Kingston with his broody, golden boy energy but carrying the weight of an epic quest on his shoulders? Yes, please. Lanz being the sweetest cinnamon roll who could probably destroy me with one gentle look? I’m sold. Callahan as the baby of the group but built like a literal giant and eager to obey? Where do I sign? And don't even get me STARTED on Kai because that man may have a heart made of literal ice but I would still defend him and his piercings with my life.
Jade R. Evans writes with this incredibly quick, witty style that had me cackling over banter one minute and my heart pounding over adventure the next. This story comes through refreshingly modern yet infused with Camelotian elements that made my mythology-loving heart flutter. We’re talking sword fights, secret societies and ancient magic that feels so real you’ll be ready to take your oath into knighthood.
I can’t forget to mention what surprised me most: fencing, yea…you heard me. I’m sorry to the fencers of the world, but I was not prepared to get hot and bothered over fencing; but trust me when I say, the dueling scenes are IT. I mean, if you’re not here for hot blade wielding men…I’ve got nothing for ya.
Lastly, please know that we’ve got a cliffhanger on our hands and it will leave you panting. But it’s okay, because we’re in for a trilogy and we have a quest to complete.
Tropes I’m living for:
👑 Arthurian legend retelling ⚔️ Why choose/reverse harem/sword crossing 🏫 Dark academia/secret society 🔥 Slow burn 🌟 Chosen one 🤺 Fencing MMCs 💗 Found family 👻 Paranormal / Fantasy
Now if you'll excuse me, I need to go stare at the wall and contemplate how I'm supposed to function until book two comes out. You can grab your copy of The Black Table on August 15, 2025!
Thank you to Naughty Nook PR and Jade R. Evans for the opportunity to read and romanticize this book. 🗡️✨
Beautiful re-interpretation of Arthurian legends. I think my rating is more 4.5 stars. My only qualm is I would have preferred more time with Gwenna as the story unfolded, I found her perspective more interesting than the male characters who ended up taking control of the narrative. I loved how the book was clearly well-researched. I loved how believably intelligent the characters were: you weren't just told they were clever. Their intellect shone through in their actions and dialogue. Kingston was just too hollow for me, he just didn't "read" as stunning/intoxicatingly mesmerising. And he let her take the fall for ARSON which is pretty much the least knight-like thing a person can do, he was a terrible hypocrite and a coward. All he had to say was they were translating the manuscript assigned by the professor, which his father knew anyway?? That made his betrayal much more inexcusable because it wasn't even necessary?? Looking forward to the second installment! I do want to know why Kai didn't defend her—it felt out of character but am sure he had his reasons. However, the fact those 2 hung her out to dry knowing she would end up in a mental institution makes it hard to invest in either of them. They didn't have her back, despite knowing how vulnerable she is, so I have no time for them. Especially since Kingston only searched for her AFTER he found out what she was, not before. That's a huge strike against him. He asked for Morgan's help to find the grail, not Gwenna. The final twist was AWESOME. Interesting too that the old professor hid her true identity from Luther Pendragon. I like this take on Morgana a lot, especially as the reader really can't tell where the author plans to take the character in this retelling. I love the other two bi-curious love interests, they were much less toxic than the foster brothers. TBH I would like an entire 2nd series book of Gwenna coming into her power and learning to believe in herself without relying on them, because they've proven at this point they're not worthy of her trust.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
Ooooh a dark academia centered around fencing, Arthurian legends and the search for the Holy Grail - really, what’s not to like??
So straight up, pretty much all the main characters are broken. They’ve all had difficult childhoods that shaped them into the individuals they are today. With that comes a number of potentially distressing themes. While it isn’t super dark, the themes are heavy and I suspect the series will get darker. There’s difficult parental relationships, psychiatric disorders and hospitalizations, near drowning, severe scarring and body image issues, and suspected pyromania/arson.
Gwenna arrives at Caliburn University to study old literature. Like, really old ancient Latin texts. She discovers that all the super hot guys are actually on the fencing team and have very strict rules for themselves. There’s the usual mean girls, the new bestie, the social isolation…but there’s something deeper going on. Something…mystical, connected to the rules - or vows?? - the guys have sworn, that seems to connect to Gwenna’s own tumultuous history.
Given that the men have sworn a vow of chastity (well, sort of), there’s not too much open door spice *yet*. There’s MM and MF stuff (more of the former than the latter). I absolutely expect this to change as the book turns into a why choose series with swords crossing (yes, pun absolutely intended).
This book is one giant Easter egg hunt for anyone who knows a bit about Arthurian lore. There’s a lot of angst in the story and just as some of the mysteries are starting to come into focus, the book ends on a cliffhanger. If you’re a dark academia fan and don’t mind a little bit of magic/secret society, this book will be right at home on your TBR.
📖 The Black Table by Jade R. Evans 🗓️ Release Date: August 15, 2025
Story: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ / 5 Spice: 🌶️ / 5
⚔️ Book 1 of 3 🖤 Camelot / King Arthur Re-Telling ⚔️ Dark Academia / Secret Society 🖤 Her BFs are BFs ⚔️ Why-Choose 🖤 Fencing (🤺) MMCs ⚔️ B*lly (Not by MMCs) 🖤 Uncovering Secrets ⚔️ Sloooow Burn 🖤 Paranormal / Fantasy
A Why-Choose Camelot retelling?!? I feel like millennials had a whole RELATIONSHIP with King Arthur in our popular culture. This book reignited that love. It was so good! The most unique book I’ve read in a while. Like any fantasy story, it was a little slow in the beginning with the world building, but it’s worth the time. It adds to the mysterious tone and the anticipation is crazy.
Yes, the cliffhanger is brutal, but knowing that this was a 3 book series helped. I did not want this book to end. I NEED TO KNOW what’s happening next. I love all of these characters. I love the secrets and the build up of the storyline. And apparently I love fencing now???
I went into this book knowing nothing about that sport, but the fencing scenes were SO GOOD!!! (All the MMCs are on a fencing team, so there are a few bouts described and they’re like… surprisingly interesting.)
I am anxiously awaiting the next book. I can’t wait to see how this mystery is going to play out.
TLDR: A slow burn Camelot retelling, but make it why-choose, and two of her boyfriends are boyfriends.
i like how this is a retelling from king’s arthur’s story bc this reads like something entirely new and fresh, and when we’re talking about reverse harems, i can always appreciate when that happens
the fmc is so nerdy and honestly this is what i liked most about her haha you can feel how devoted she is for the stuff she studies… she’s shy and nervous and unsure of herself which is fine by me, i think she just needs a little more growth into the sequel
(i can also appreciate the time the author had to take to seriously go after so many information about latin and old old old books)
the mmcs are likeable except kingston lol and you can tell them apart quite quickly… the thing i found the most interesting is the fact that they have to be pure? lol the mm touch is very much appreciated and it at least can give us a little bit of heat cause this is a slow burn
overall this was a very enjoyable read, although i feel like the overall plot moved slowly at times! this is a paranormal romance and i was questioning myself when it would pick up or be more noticeable that there were magic elements in the university… 40% onwards got a better flow imo
i think the sequel could be an even better book than this was, because to me this one was just setting the stage and getting ready for the main event :)
Gaslighting.. that's the first interaction that greeted me, I hate when people do things like you are overreacting or maybe you heard wrong or it's not the deep..... I love kai, he is a little coo-coo in the head....I am loving the Chaos that follows him everywhere he goes
when Callahan said Kingston said you are staying with us now I was ooooooh💃💃 Callahan is so book boyfriend material and Morgan is a case study, that girl..... honestly at this point I am gwenna, gwenna is me and we are confused. This is all overwhelming...we need explanation the why choose hasn't started why choosing... there's so much to be uncovered I knew I liked Kai for a reason (my spectacular taste in book boyfriend) I love that all the characters had depth — each one was unique in their own way, and it worked beautifully.
I don't know why I keep doing this to myself this is not a cliffhanger...I have been dropped already in a dark void and I don't know what to expect 😭😭 when Morgan told Kingston to grovel I was like yeah girl because why didn't he say anything..... Is it too early to say I need a book two? Jade R Evans you've gotten yourself a stalker
If you love dark academia, why choose, and delicious secrets… this should be your current read 😉🤭
If you’re looking for a new addition to the sports romance world, let me introduce you to The Black Table by Jade R. Evans… with a twist: fencing romance! 🗡️
I’ll admit, I was skeptical at first. Fencing? Really? But wow… I loved it. It works beautifully within the King Arthur “Why Choose?” retelling framework. All the touches of the classic story scattered throughout made it feel familiar yet totally fresh. Plus, the way Evans renames some characters? Brilliant. It feels close enough to the original legends to be exciting, but different enough to keep you on your toes.
The book has a dark academia vibe, with heavy undertones of religion, secrets, and intrigue. It’s slow-burn perfection. Multiple POVs give great insight into the characters, from celibate MMCs with a clever MM loophole to a bullied FMC who’s not bullied by the men she’s drawn to. Secret societies, Latin and French sprinkled throughout… it all adds to the richness of the world.
While it wasn’t spicy per se, the tension is palpable, and I can guarantee the next books in the series will turn up the heat. 🔥 And that cliffhanger? Absolutely killer.
If you love King Arthur retellings, slow-burn romance, secret societies, and a touch of dark academia, this is a must-read. I can’t wait for the next installment!
Holy shirtballs. This was INCREDIBLE. Ya girl lovvveeeessss king Arthur and merlin lore through and through so I feel like I've read quite a few twists on the classic tale.. but this one. Chefs kiss. Its all here, even the quest for the holy grail, right but its so so different. Now picture the lore but add in 4 stunning monk level oath keepers who are fencing babes, where swords cross literally and spice-ily, have them all living together but dont all necessarily get along and ooo baby!! That temptation to fuuuu*k or fight one another haaaa. This is filled to the brim with Daddy issues, secrets, sweet stolen moments, unexpected friendship, bullies who youre praying for the down fall of, and a twisted version of found family. Also I literally love how religious this is without it being religious hahahaha like how this book is able to mock/joke about religion but also respect it at the same time is exactly how I feel about it. Speaking of jokes, the pop culture references hit everytime and really spoke to my millennial heart. Be prepared for an insane cliffhanger. I pterodactyl screeched because I need the next book asap!!!!
At this point I’m ready to crown Jade, Queen of the retellings!! I adored her spin on the tale of Robin Hood & now the Knights of the Round Table have a turn! I love the Arthurian legend & couldn’t put this down!
Gwenna is a late admission to the exclusive Caliburn University. Her appearance causes many questions & with her high intellect & love of long sleeves, she soon becomes a target for harassment by the popular girls. But then she catches the chivalrous eye of the fencing team, (Kingston, Kai, Lanz & Callahan) much to their… frustration 😉. Things certainly aren’t what they seem, in more ways than one!
This book focuses very much on world building & sharing background information as things are gradually revealed. It’s definitely a slow burn but that in no way detracts from the tension, sexual (because it’s most definitely there) or otherwise! And I was fascinated by the attention to detail. Jade has clearly done her research, not just with the legend of King Arthur but also in how the sport of fencing is executed! I loved it!! And am positively desperate for the next instalment!!
OH HOW GOOD IS THIS!!! I need more! I absolutely loved this and read this at one sitting. You just can’t put this down. Jade i am gonna need all of these books!
Gwenna is kinda cute, just wanna hold her and tell that everything is gonna be okey. Just a sweet little thing and she deserves more Kingston, yelled him couple of times. He was being stupid and so uptide that made me feel a bit angry. He better make things right or i am seriously gonna hit him with a chair. I was still swooning over him, he is broody and hot. Hes father could use some smacking in the face tho Kai, oh my, he might be my favorite character! So fun and flirty and broody. Love him! And he made laugh out loud so many times. I would love to hug him and tell him that he is doing grate Lanz and Call are so cute! Super cute! Would love to be their friend! This is such a good book and i really really need more of these characters and this story!
Slow burn, dark academia, this book had everything I love. Dark stone rooms lit in candlelight, brooding boys with swords, and a search for the unsearchable, (maybe). I loved this, Gwenna, broken but not weak, who doesn’t understand what is happening to and around her. My heart broke a little bit when she was being targeted. The guys were all great, though I could have kicked Kingston for not doing the chivalrous thing at the end. I’m going to have to pick a favourite, I always do, and at the moment it’s Kai. For someone so angry at everything that was going on, he was the one who seemed to make the right decisions. It doesn’t hurt that he’s a pierced and tattooed ‘bad boy’! This was a wonderful first book, setting up everything and giving us the world of Caliburn. I cannot wait for the next one ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️🌶️
