Hunter James, a rising star in college basketball, has her career and life sidelined after experiencing a family tragedy. An opportunity for a fresh start opens a door to get back to what she loves most, playing basketball. Hunter rushes through that door to make the most of her second chance. Back in the basketball arena, doing what she loves, will she open herself and her heart to another second chance, a chance to forgive herself and fall in love?
I am a native Floridian who is temporarily (I hope) displaced in Memphis, TN. for work purposes, however I hope to make it home to a partner of 17 years and our family as quickly as I can. I enjoy photography as a hobby along with spinning a good tale.
I am American by birth and Southern by the Grace of God. LOL I enjoy writing about the south and creating characters and events that I hope my readers enjoy as much as I have in creating them.
Sometimes life's awful moments can be about a redo when hearts mend and dreams happen.
I am not a basketball fan but Ali Spooner always takes my heart to new loves. This story grabbed my heart as Hunter starts her life over after a tragic loss. Her sister and 5 years of her life gone along with a dream to play in the WNBA. As she looks to start over, make amends a new chapter unfolds. Her storied past must be let go so she can reach for her future. A mended relationship with Carson brings a second chance to play ball and live a life of love she had given up on. I enjoyed the coaching, game time plays and watching women compete at a level where everyone thrives. A love story that brings more emotions and a caring to strive to be their best. Michelle grounded Hunter and together they brought joy to the game and nothing but net. The characters were experiencing so many growth moments. I loved each connection, simple like Walter or grand like the coach brought a well of exquisite life to the pages. It is an Ali Spooner gift to bring uniqueness, and great life moments to the pages. I think I will be watching more basketball.
I enjoyed the basketball scenes I got to - they were exciting, and I definitely felt like the author was passionate about women's basketball and sports - and I also thought it was an interesting choice to start off with the main character having just been released from prison. Unfortunately, however, I ended up DNFing about a quarter or so of the way through because the prose and dialogue were both difficult to get through and at times repetitive. The prose has an awkward rhythm and tends to repeat the main character's name a lot, and in places it has poor paragraph-level pacing. The dialogue sounds unrealistic, and sometimes it felt like the characters were going through a therapy session rather than a conversation.
Like the tie in with the WNBA, as a NBA fan do like watching the ladies play and can watch basketball with no off season. Liked Hunter, Michelle and Carson, which made this such a good read. I laughed when their coach explains how Caitlin actually hurt her groin, when she warned about too much sex before a game to Hunter and Michelle and the redemption story about Hunter's past. Which the author actually pulled that off, so perfectly and I hope at some point we'll get a sequel.
