Revenge. That’s all that’s left for witch hunter Rhett Carter. The magic-born have stripped everything from him—killed his friends, cursed his warlock father, shattered his future—leaving him bare and broken, but not dead. Their mistake.

When Rhett and Laney are suddenly thrust in different directions, Rhett must decide who to trust and who to kill. Backed by his trusty canine sidekick Hex, Rhett will embark on his deadliest mission yet, one that will lead him directly toward those who want him dead, pushing his unique resistance to magic to the edge and back again as he tries to remove his father’s curse.

Separated from Rhett, Laney seeks to understand the strange changes to her sister, Trish, who’s believed to be the last living Clairvoyant, and what role she’s destined to play in the future of humankind.

Wrapped around everything are four major groups: the Necromancers, the Changelings, the witch hunters, and New America, the remnants of humanity. When the major forces are brought together for an epic battle, the fate of the world hangs in the balance.

“If you'd have told me two weeks ago that one day I'd be part of a not-so-merry band of Necros seeking to exterminate a couple of other magic-born gangs, I'd have given you directions to the strait-jacket factory.

I was quite disappointed with the first book, enough that I didn't want to read the second. However I'd already bought it so I decided to give it another try. Best decision ever! Sometimes a series needs time to blossom and this has definitely happened in Boil. The plot is much tighter. The characters have more direction and we get to learn more about the different witch factions.

Boil provides us with an in-depth look at the world as it stands after the witches took over. Rhett has to decide who to trust and Laney's sister, Trish, learns more about her powers and her place in witch society. There were lots of humourous moments. Especially with Laney whose sarcasm, wit and bravery made me admire how gutsy she was. I quite like her and Rhett as a couple. They make perfect sense.

The characters are fantastic and always made me smile. Laney, Rhett, Trish and Bil Nez just worked so well as a main cast and I loved that everything was not as clear cut as it appeared.

This series is really coming together now and I wish that I had Burn on my ereader so that I could continue with this unique apocalyptic story straight away!

After over a year without releasing a book, I'm ecstatic to announce the release of TWO new books, the first two books in my new Salem's Revenge series, Brew and it's sequel, Boil!

Brew (Salem's Revenge, #1) by David Estes BREW: http://www.amazon.com/Brew-Salems-Rev...

Here are some noteworthy quotes from early reviewers:

"The Walking Dead for teens, with ruthless witches instead of bloodthirsty zombies.” --Katie Reed, agent at Andrea Hurst & Associates

"Brew had everything I look for in a book: action, suspense, awesome characters, chilling twists. 5 EPIC STARS!"-- Happy Indulgence Books

"A dark, thrilling, creepy read full of action and the COOLEST DOG EVER!"-- Juliababyjen's Reading Room

"An apocalyptic backdrop perfectly blended with an enthralling story of fight and survival, with a paranormal twist."-- Diva Booknerd

For anyone who decides to give Brew and Boil a shot, thank you SO MUCH and I'd love to see your reviews on Goodreads and Amazon.com, they truly help lead to the success of my books!

Ah, well let me start by saying that I am a HUGE fan of David Estes. My love first began with The Dweller and Country saga, and now I’m beginning on this new spectacular journey. Boil is the second installment of David’s new series, Salem’s Revenge. I was very hopeful and have been awaiting these books for quite some time. This series really does have the same vibes as The Walking Dead – but with less gore/horror and with witches instead of zombies. I really enjoyed the first book, and this was also an equally entertaining read. This time around instead of just Rhett’s point of view (the main character) we also get Laney and Trish’s. This I found was a very nice change which made the book come together quite nicely. I found that it was easier to grow attached to the other characters when I was placed in their shoes – something I love about David’s work is his brilliant ability make the reader feel just about everything that the character is experiencing.

“She drops to the ground, pulling me with her, and her body starts to shake.

And that’s when I hear it – her sobs.

And she shakes and she cries, her tears streaming like swollen rivers, and I just hold her as it starts to rain.”

Now that scene hurt me, but I loved the beauty of it. Gah, I’m sure this won’t be the last time Estes makes me want to vomit with feels.

I liked how it picked up right where the first one left off. It was a great transition. We continue to see the bad ass foursome: Rhett, Laney, Trish and the magical-wonder dog Hex as they continue their mission on making the world witch free. Their journey is not easy – oh no, was it ever? All four character face many hurdles in their expedition to get to New Washington – pretty much the base of what’s left of America’s government.

Laney easily became my favorite character – she was the light of the book I think, her attitude and witty dialogue had me smirking which made me feel more in depth with who she was more so than I ever thought I’d be. The characters evolved with the story which I loved seeing – they grew closer and relied on each other emotionally, physically and mentally. Throughout the story, there are many life lessons to be learnt. Rhett matures greatly in book two, he even later discovers that revenge is less important than the lives of his friends. He developed and became someone bigger than he already was. There are many emotional parts of this book, as well as some pretty hilarious ones as well. It was a great mixture that Estes mastered well.

I loved the elements of the story; plot, back story, most of the characters – however, I sometimes felt like some of the characters and dialogue were a little to cheesy for me? I would have liked to see the book be more mature and dark (I mean we have killer witches and dead bodies all over) – the characters of The End (a witch hunter gang) made me feel a little bit uneasy. They just seemed to come off as a bit childish to me. Not that it matters much, I just enjoy a good, twisted setting and enemy. On the contrary, I must admit I grew up watching slasher, horror, murder, psychological, and thriller movies and I’ve even read some pretty hefty books – namely some from Stephen King, so perhaps my creep factor is set to high (I’m pretty much numb towards horror things now) – this very well may have just been my own personal feeling, I’m sure it is. In the end this minor flaw did not affect my love for the book, it just put a damper on a tiny portion of the apocalyptic setting. This is my only complaint.

I cannot stress enough how much I love David’s writing. It’s easy to be entranced by the story as his writing and craftsmanship with words instantly pull you in, the series is fresh and unique – and, not to mention it’s perfect for the good old Halloween mood!

The book held my attention, the world building still continues to be amazing and David takes care to flesh out the plots and makes sure all dots are connected. Overall it was a excellent sequel to Brew. This series – or anything written by David Estes I do, and forever will recommend because he never fails to offer a new and unique tale that will not disappoint. I simply cannot wait to see where the characters go from here in the third installment, which I’m sure will be excellent and just as entertaining as Brew and Boil have been!

Witches, warlocks and wizards – the necessary ingredients for fantasy novels but not very relevant to our day-to-day lives, right? That is what Rhett thinks until his entire world was literally turned upside-down overnight. In David Estes’s Brew, Rhett is a happy teenager on the football team with the girlfriend of his dreams. His best friend Xavier is always by his side. Finally, Rhett is finally in a nice foster home with parents who truly care for him – even if his mother is a little weird. His mother loves watching the witch trials that have become popular in the United States. Rhett thinks it is all silly and refuses to participate in the persecution of innocent people like they did during the times of the Salem Witch Trials of 1692. But all that changes one night.

As it turns out, there are many witches, warlocks and wizards existing among humans and they are fed up of the persecution. One night they seek revenge and destroy the country. Rhett’s own life is in jeopardy when his reclusive neighbour, Mr. Jackson, saves his life. Now Rhett must find Beth and Xavier and hopes to avenge the death of those that he loved. It will not be easy because the magic-born will kill any human that they encounter. Are Beth and Xavier still alive? Can Rhett get to them in time? Will he avenge the death of those that were murdered? Read Brew and Boil to find out!

Brew and Boil is an addictive dystopian series that is nearly impossible to put down. Estes, author of the Dwellers Saga, has another great novel that entices people with strong characters and a powerful story. This is definitely a “must-read” for any fan of dystopian books!

This, was effing brilliant. I absolutely LOVE this series.
More than chocolate.

Yes, it's just THAT good.
Boil picks up a long six months after Brew, with Rhett still coming to terms with the loss of his girlfriend and the deception of Mr Jackson. Still able to rely on new friends Laney, Trish and his sidekick and magical canine Rex, where the hunter is now being hunted.

If you thought Brew was brilliant, Boil will knock your socks off. We finally see Laney's point of view and the sassy young fighter doesn't disappoint. I simply loved it. It left me spellbound (pardon the pun) and wanting more.

Having loved reading Brew, I couldn’t wait to start reading Boil and see where the journey was going to lead next. Far from disappointing, the action, adventure and twists were taken to another level and there is never a dull moment throughout the entire book. The need for revenge is stronger, and the emotions are well portrayed as the story unfolds. I can only imagine where this story is going to go next and can't wait to read Burn.

**There will be spoilers from the first book, Brew, but none for Boil**

"As my days surround me with the bitter eyes of a betrayed wolf, my nights haunt and destroy without compassion, bruising my heart and crushing my soul"--Rhett Carter

And so the sequel starts, the situation even darker for Rhett. Trying to come to terms with the fact that Beth is gone, and contemplating Xavier's actions in the whole mess. Does he still have a best friend? The only thing Rhett knows for sure is he wants REVENGE.

This was an EPIC sequel! You are really in for the wild ride of your life with this one. The stakes are even higher than before, as Rhett, Laney, and Trish follow their own paths in this crazy mixed up world.

First of all--Laney's POV! FINALLY! I was so wanting to get in her head all through the story of Brew, and we finally get that in this book! She was everything I'd imagined, and more. Still easily my favorite character in this trilogy. The voice of Laney was spot on, and so different from Rhett's. It was easy to tell who was really talking, something that can be hard to pull off, but was done BEAUTIFULLY in this book! My favorite Laney line: "If they ever create an award for best conversationalist, let me know and I’ll apply. Until then, have a sip from my bottle of I-Don’t-Give-A-Crap and keep on walking." Love it!

We also get Trish's POV in this, which was so enlightening, and really gave me insight into her character. Her story line is wicked crazy, and I enjoyed every minute. After you finish the read, the cover of the book will give you CHILLS!

The next best thing about this book was the twists. Like Brew, I did not see any of them coming! In fact, I was completely mind blown! I have no idea how the author pulled these off, but they were done so well. And they just kept on coming, one after the other!

The world building--AMAZING! I just love this world that David Estes has created, and it just builds and builds, something I love to see in a sequel.

The intensity of this story was on par with the intensity of Brew, if not more so. The story itself was incredibly gripping, with never a dull moment. There is still plenty of humor, though to balance it out. I loved every thrilling moment of this read! So unbelievably excited for the last book in the trilogy, Burn!

And finally, a quote from Rhett to leave you with:

"If you'd have told me two weeks ago that one day I'd be part of a not-so-merry band of Necros seeking to exterminate a couple of other magic-born gangs, I'd have given you directions to the strait-jacket factory."

Estes is ON FIRE with the Salem's Revenge series. And before I start my review, can I just gush over THAT COVER!! Oh my word... Having read the book as an eARC before seeing the cover, I seriously got chills all over when I first saw it. (And still keep getting chills every time I see it...!) I have never pictured a character in my mind that turned out to be the exact same image that the author then chose for his cover. I'm in awe of your talent, David Estes! And those colors!! WOW!

So on to the story. As Rhett, Laney, Trish and Hex's journey continues in Boil, we find our heroes splitting up with Rhett and Hex heading to New Washington to join the humans' fight against the witches. Laney only wants to keep her sister safe so she takes Trish and heads north, away from the upcoming fight.

From there, this book explodes with action, twists, and the hilarious laugh out loud antics of Hex and his new friend Grogg. And Estes never fails to give us those moments of heartbreak that just messes with your emotions, so you're laughing one moment and tears are running down your face the next.

There are so many characters that I am in love with in this series. Laney with her sarcastic wit but big heart; Rhett the lovable book blogger who morphs into an incredible warrior; Trish, who you just want to protect and cuddle from the moment you meet her; and Hex, the magical wonder dog who floats, glows, and has all kinds of little tricks up his fur to help his human friends.

And then there are the twists that you never see coming which Estes is so famous for. I gasp each time even knowing he's going to pull something big.

Estes never fails to deliver and Boil is no exception. You just keep amazing me, Mr. Estes.

How much longer until Burn??!! I need to know how this turns out and can not wait!

I received an ARC from the author in exchange for an honest review.

David Estes has done another fantastic job! In this sequel to Brew, he lets us into the feelings and thoughts of Laney and Trish, along with Rhett. Very well done.

Rhett, Laney and Trish continue on in a world full of witches, wizards and warlocks. Rhett is set on destroying the Necros and getting revenge. Laney only wants to protect her sister.

They all become separated. Fighting battles alone, some finding each other again. Then the true battle begins!! Who will win?

Great book! Looking forward to the next one.

All I can say is wow. I loved the first book in the series and sequel takes it to a new level. I was blown away with the character and the plot. I found it so interesting that is about Salem's Revenge. It is different and usual and I love it. The world that the author built is detailed and incredible. You can easily imagine the highs and lows that each character goes through and the inner turmoil that they all feel at different times. It is hard to describe just how much I adore this series. The different witch gangs are intriguing and bring to light more issues within the big issues. It is like peeling back a onion the layers just keep coming.

My favorite character was Laney in this book. I felt like we got to know her better and I love her strong, vulnerable and sarcastic attitude. She just makes me smile all the time. My heart breaks with hers and swells with hers. She is always hold a special place in my heart because he character is the greatest ever. I can't not talk about Rhett who has come so far from the beginning. He was a nerdy football player and when the apocalypse happened he evolved. He went from cold and only being fueled by revenge to a tender, well rounded, badass witch hunter. I just love him too. Hex is the greatest dog there ever was. He is AMAZING!!

My favorite moment was when Rhett and Laney got separated. You could feel the pain in Rhett and that is when his evolution started. It was a touching moment and pivotal for Rhett and for Laney.

I just love this series and will recommend it all of my friends. It has a perfect balance for most ages.

This book has everything!! I really liked "Brew" (book 1), but I loved "Boil"! Especially the last chunk of the story, I hated putting it down in favor (not really) of completing my daily responsibilities as a wife/mom/author/etc/etc!!

Where to begin? Hmmm... How about... "Whoa! What a ride!" Witches, Warlocks, Necros, Pyros, Shifters, Sirens, Claires, Changelings, Slammers, Destroyers... did I miss any?? I'm sure I did! Oh yeah, duh! Resistors! Anyways, I loved learning about all these different "Magic-born", as they're called. Makes my head spin a little, but I'm not complaining! lol

I also enjoyed watching Rhett and Laney (and even Bill Nez) grow and become stronger. Instead of allowing the witch apocalypse to harden them into emotionless rocks (which would be easy to do, in my opinion), they clung to their humanity even when it seemed pointless. I can't imagine witnessing so much gruesome death and still entertaining hope of a better future. Not when witches practically rule the world!! So I thought how the main characters developed throughout was inspiring and even believable. Especially Laney, I liked how tough she was, but I'm also glad she softened up a bit over time, but still whipped out her trusty Glock when she needed to.

Two highlights for me - HEX (I'm not really a 'pet' person, but I want a "Hex"!!)
HUCKLE (The epitome of awesomeness)

I can't wait to read "Burn", the 3rd book in the series!!!

This book picks up where Brew, the first book in the Salem's Revenge series, left off with one major difference - Rhett Carter is no longer alone. He's part of a team now and this is reflected in changes of character-POV with Lacey and Trish Grant, who Rhett picked up while traveling through my home state of West Virginia. West Virginia gets less face-time in this book than it did in Brew, but I love that my state is mentioned without us being depicted as a bunch of backwards hill folk.

The POV-changes allow the story to progress faster than the first book, so there's less roller-coaster effect. And, as with the first book, this would be a cool movie adaptation requiring nifty special effects. I would also recommend this to anyone who loves Paranormal Romance for young/new adults. Mr. Estes shies away from the notion of love-at-first-sight and shows a real relationship being built.

At the end of the book, Trish borrows a line from a very popular ballad here in West Virginia called Pretty Bird, which tickled me. If you wanna hear how we West Virginians listen to the song, look up the version done by Hazel Dickens (rest in peace, Hazel Dickens, you are gone but not forgotten).

I can't talk about what happens to Trish without giving spoilers but she'll always be my favorite character from this series. I look forward to reading the third installment of the Salem's Revenge series.

I LOVE this series! I read it straight through - like I needed it to live. One of the things I like about it is there was no point where I thought "Man, this is really dragging!" OR "Wait, what happened there, he breezed right past that" - It had the perfect tempo!

Something I do appreciate about David Estes stories in general is the quality female lead. In so many books the female lead is "Strong" or "hard headed" - but she also does a variety of different dumb things that you shake your head at. Laney in this book had a very low "dumb things" count. She was great and I loved here.

I also enjoyed Rhett. His progression through the books is remarkable but believable.

There were many twists and turns, most of which surprised and delighted me! I look forward to reading the next installment and what ever else David Estes writes in the future.

Brew was great and I liked it, but Boil was amazing! I was hooked and couldn't put it down once I got about 15% into it. The storytelling was great, the character development was excellent and it really just makes you long for more. To me, it was unpredictable and I had no idea which side was good and which side was bad. I will say I wasnt a fan of Laney at all in this book or the last. She did grow on me the last half of this book, but I kind of had to force if. I loved Rhett, Hex, Bill, and Trish. They were likable and interesting to learn more about and empathize with them.

David is absolutely brilliant and I wish I had his creative mind. I will read his next series and I can't wait for the third book! I hope it comes out early 2015...I don't want to wait long!

This book was very good. David has an amazing ability to make characters really come to life. I grew to care about Laney more with every page. The book really started to pick up for me around 75 pages in. I think this is due to my continual growth in fondness toward Laney. I think it was just too much romance for me. I’m sure others will appreciate that aspect though. I'm just not huge on teen romance.

After the book picked up, I really couldn’t knit pick at it that much. It was truly great. Maybe a bit too mushy for my taste, but it wasn’t enough for me to ever want to stop reading. Sure, I rolled my eyes a few times but then Laney would say something sarcastic and have me laughing again. It was a perfect mix of love and sass.

Rhett, Laney, and the crew are back in this great sequel to Brew!
With the A-Team regrouping after the events of Brew, the stakes are higher than ever. In this sequel, we get a closer look into the human vs. magic war, and an even deeper look into the lives of the non-human characters. Also, can I just say: Laney's little sister is FREAKING ME OUT MAN. The plot is kicked into an even higher gear than before, and the events will have your head spinning!
An amazing sequel that delivers just as much as the first book, you won't regret the read! And if you're reading this right now and haven't read Brew, CHECK YOSELF BEFORE YOU WRECK YOSELF AND GO READ IT.

Loved it from page one...

I've enjoyed following the witch-hunting lives of Rhett and Laney. This book is really a different and creative take on witches, warlocks, and magical creatures. If you love books with action, mystery, magic, intrigue, war, deception... then you'll love Boil. And the other books in the series.

Action packed and full of twists.

This book was written in a different format than the first. Each chapter is from the viewpoint of a different character but it still flows smoothly. This was a very suspenseful book with surprising twists all the way to the end.

Rhett, Laney and Trish continue in their quest to stay alive by either avoiding or winning battles with the renegade witches. Trish exhibits significant magical ability and Laney has to admit that Trish is a witch, as were their parents.

Rhett and Laney travel to the Necros "headquarters" as Rhett continues to try to locate Xavier and Beth.

Unfortunately, I finished this in the middle of the night and started book #3 before writing a review, so am rather hazy as to details.

“You can’t make yourself a hero,” I say. “You have to be born one. And sometimes the least likely heroes are the ones this world needs the most.” (Kindle Locations 4972-4973).

Rhett, after joining the side of the witch hunters, is bent on revenge. He thinks he now knows who is who and what is what in this battle between human born and magic born. There are three warring factions and Rhett is seeking out the New American Government to fight on their side for the humans. Laney is supportive until Rhett wants to use Trish, Laney’s sister, to help them. When they go their separate ways, it will take magic and their feelings for one another to bring them back together. Rhett’s anger has pushed him this far, but will it be too much? Will it cloud his judgement in the moment when he needs clarity, or will it prompt him forward past the point of bravery?

Second books in series with romance always seem to see the potential partners separated for one reason or another and Boil is no exception. Laney and Rhett have their differences, but so far it hadn’t kept them apart, but when Rhett wants to use Trish in his plan, that’s the last straw for Laney.

I like how Laney sticks by her convictions. So does Rhett, but in a world where it’s difficult to tell who’s on what side and where allegiances lie, convictions can only get you so far.

The brooding/boiling romance that was hinted at in book one is on fire in book two! David Estes writes such great budding/building romances in books. They aren’t just one and done or love at first sight. They are built on the stuff all great relationships are built on and Estes builds them up slow and steady to get a real heartbreaking relationship.

I felt this book was much more solid than 'Brew'. The story seemed more put together and the characters seemed comfortable in their own skins. And I thought Laney was less annoying.

In this second book of the witch apocalypse Trish really comes into her own, leaving Rhett and Laney to join her witch children. Rhett, Laney & Hex head to New Washington to join the president. Thinking that they are fighting on the side of peace but they are mistaken...

Some nice battle scenes in this one. Hex is still a superstar dog, maybe he should get his own P.O.V chapters? :) However even though I enjoyed this more than the first one I'm not going to rate it any higher as I'm still just not that into the witch thing. And I can't take it seriously that the most evil witch of all is called 'Flora'. But I do want to know what happens so I will be putting the third one on my wishlist.
