Sventé vampire Ava Sanchez has a difficult decision to make: should she accept the invitation of the Grand High Master Vampires and join their legion? It will mean leaving behind her brother and her home. It will also mean working with Pagori vampire, Salem McCauley. Unlike the majority of vampirekind, she doesn’t fear Mr. Tall, Blond, and Dauntless…even if he does have some psychopathic traits. In fact, he has a raw sexuality that tempts her to drop her ‘no relationships’ rule and give him exactly what he wants from her – everything.

Salem McCauley doesn’t like anything cute, or sweet, or cheery. Yet he wants Ava with a desperation that’s bordering on obsession. And shockingly, she doesn’t look at him like others do – you know, like they fear he’ll rip out their spinal cord for fun. Now that the legion will be busy hunting the players involved in the creation of an illegal vampiric brothel, there’s no time for pursuing Ava. But Salem makes time, because he never denies himself what he wants and he always holds tight to what’s his. And that’s exactly what Ava is, whether she knows it or not: His.

Warning: Contains bad words, dirty talk, and scenes of a steamy nature.

He has lucid moments, though they're few and far between. And he's a warm, cuddly bear at heart."

Oh Yeah that's how it is done! Consumed is the 4th book in the Deep in your veins series. It is the first one of the series that is not about Jared and Sam, and Suzanne Wright Rocked that shit!!!! OMG it was good. So Consumed is about Ava Sanchez who is considering Jared and Sam's invitation to join the all women Legion they are starting up. If she takes it she will be leaving her nest and brother, but she wants to do good in the vampire world. If she takes the job she will have to be around Salem, who she wants more than anything, but she doesn't do relationships. Men always like her at first then they try to change her. So sick of being hurt she has given up on having anything deep, but Salem doesn't want a fling he wants everything. Will she let Salem into her heart or push him away. Can Salem break down the walls around Ava's heart and show her that she is perfect for him just the way she is?

"You smell good. Your scent makes me hard every time. I want to wear it on my skin." His voice was thick with need. " And I want my scent on you."

Salem:

 photo images 8_zpsveouova9.jpg

Dayum Salem is dark and hott. He has been hurt bad and it has made him surly, closed off, and overly protective. He thinks he's a failure because he didn't protect the people that meant something to him in the past, when he was human. The guilt eats at his soul. Ava is like sunlight in his dark heart. She makes him smile, and softens the rough edges. I loved Salem with Ava. Salem was sexy, strong and the way he showed Ava that he loved her for who she was. I just melted! He made the perfect damaged bad boy learning to love.

"Do you know why I resisted you for so long? Because I knew that if I had even one taste of you, you'd never be free of me. I thought I could do the right thing and stay away. You're sweet and kind and everything I'm not. I've done a lot of bad things. Things I don't even regret. You can do a hell of a lot better than someone who's as fucked up as I am. But I'm a selfish prick. I've never let anyone keep me from what I want Ever."

"I hope you like the feel of me inside you, baby, because there'll be no one else after me. You'll never take another person inside you. You'll never feed from anyone but me. And no one will ever drink from you but me. Only me."

Ava:

 photo ava_zpsbxf4qfgh.jpg

God I loved Ava she was different and I loved that. She totally kicked ass but she was also perky, upbeat, hyper, and just all over the place. I thought she would drive me batty but she didn't. It really worked for her, she played flaky airhead well, but it was an act. Under her bubbly personality she had a endearing vulnerability that made you feel her. She was sweet, playful and funny as hell when she turned on the airhead act.

"Oh, I know you do.... which is why your opinions will now be redirected to '1-800-I-fail-to-give-a-flying-fuck'."

"I don't want gentle, Salem." "And I don't want you in pain." "Yes, you do. Because then even once it's over, I'll still be able to feel you every time I move." A mischievous smile curved her lips. "And you like that idea."

"I don't need Yogi when I have my own bear right here." I rubbed his chest. "So cute and cuddly."

 photo giphy_zpsqkfmeokj.gif

"No, Ava, I'm not. Never mistake me for a good guy." I rolled my eyes. "I know, I know: you're the biggest, baddest, scariest thing out there." He tilted his head. "You're not afraid of me at all, are you?" "You're too sweet and cute to be scary." His scowl deepened. "I'm not sweet, and I'm not cute." "Cutely manly, then."

Ava and Salem together are sweet and sexy. Cute and playful . They had that opposites attract thing going on. They complemented each other so well. She picked on him and calmed him down making him live a little. She saw good in him and he made her take things more seriously . He gave her a feeling of safety and acceptance. They had tons of chemistry and passion. I loved how he kept picking her up by the back of her shirt and carrying her around. The plot was great and flowed well. I was hooked from beginning till end. I loved getting to see Jared and Sam , they are my favorite couple, and it was nice that they had a pretty good size role in this book too. Consumed was a great read and I would recommend this book and this whole series to anyone who loves Paranormal Romance. Below is my favorite moment in this book:

"You look-" I froze as two farting sounds split the air. I looked at Sam and Jared only to find that they were both scowling as they pulled out whoopee cushions from under the white chair covers. Knowing exactly who was responsible, I shot the guys- all of whom were shaking with silent laughter- a snarl. That was when they smiled, revealing blackened teeth. A loud giggle popped out of Ava, which acted as a catalyst. Suddenly everyone, even the damn Prelate, was laughing... other than myself and Chico. "They're dead," he mouthed to me, which I nodded in agreement.

This was okay...I liked it, but not as much as previous books in the series. I really liked both Salem and Ava; however, I just didn't feel their connection. I can't put my finger on it, there was just something missing for me.

Regardless, I love Wright's writing style and her witty dialogues. Looking forward to her next book.

“Sex with Salem is like being at a concert....

There’s the buzz of anticipation, the thrill of knowing you’re about to experience something amazing, the agonizing wait for the show to begin, and then suddenly everything goes wild and you never know when it will end.

My Thoughts: I think its safe to say, that Suzanne Wright has officially 'bitten me' (as of yesterday) and has now turned me into one of her many vampire series fans like the rest of my GR friends. XD

Of course if I'm being honest...I did adore Jared & Sam's more...but Ava& Salem did absolutely beautiful on their own too.

Re-read 13th -14th July 2018

3.5*

While I'd read and enjoyed the previous three books the switch in characters seemed like a natural break for me. The reviews I'd read for this book weren't brilliant and the constant recapping of everything that had happened in the previous books was starting to get to me and so I'd decided to quit, but...
I couldn't let Sam and Jared go that quickly so after a break I'm back and I enjoyed this more than I expected.

The constant recapping was still a problem, in fact it was my only real problem and I just can't understand why in the forth book in a series every little thing has to be recapped even down to vampire types, we know this by now and if someone has chosen to jump into this series on the forth book then tough, read the rest of the series first or the author could put a quick catch-up at the front because the constant repetition spoils the story.

Right I'm down from my soapbox now so back to the book itself.

I like it, really liked it and there was a lot of humour here, the scene where Salem is trying to convince Ava to move in with him is hilarious along with so many others.
I loved Salem because he loved Ava so completely and he was such an overprotective cuddly bear.

Ava is another strong capable female and this is one of the great strengths of this author there's no really stupid women here the type that plague so many books these days, you know the women I mean it's a wonder they can even dress themselves on a morning.

The story was good, I loved catching up with Sam and Jared and Knox Thorne wow. The 'Deep in You' series has been on my to-read list for ages and now I want to make it my next read but I should really finish this series first, shouldn't I?

Re-reading an old favorite series!!

Honestly, I was not excited about reading Salem and Ava's book. I was on a Sam and Jared high and just didn't think these two could hold my attention. Well, I will never under estimateSuzanne Wright again. She is a master at creating paranormal action, with the perfect amount of drama. Oh and Ava and Salem were far steamier than I expected. Also, there was an additional love match in this book so it was like getting two for the price of one.

I have a lot of friends that are on the fence about reading this book for the same reasons I had. All I can say is, you will not be disappointed. I also look forward to more adventures and love in the Hollows. Evan and Alora come to mind.

Consumed is the 4th book in Suzanne Wright’s Deep In Your Veins Series about a community of vampires living on a secret island somewhere in the Caribbean, known as The Hollow.

Led by The Grand High Pair, Jared Michaels and his mate, Sam Parker, the group is dedicated to protect any of their kind from their enemies.

This was a fun and utterly fabulous read. I am totally crazy about the characters in the world that the author has created. They are so refreshing from the usual dark and serious vampires we read about. Funny, quirky and relatable and somehow real jumping off the pages!!!

This story focuses on Salem McCauley and Ava Sanchez, both members of the fighter squads, which are trained by Sam and Jared. These were such cute and endearing characters.

Ava – a shot-in-the-arm of happy and cuteness!!! Bubbly …..Incredibly endearing!
“Relationships never worked well for me. Guys liked me well enough until they realized just how quirky I really was. The cheeriness, the humming, the giggling, the optimism, and the ‘being a morning person’ thing – or ‘dusk person’, in my case – would begin to wear on them.
This was what she believed of herself….but me….I would love to have someone like her as a friend!! She has the upbeatness about her that radiates to everyone around her….and she loves Hello Kitty….how could I not fall in love with her, never mind Salem!!!!
 photo unnamed_zpssurlrm2o.jpg
She would brighten up anyone’s day!!! Okay, she’s sweet and cheery…but she’s also kick-ass and snarky and smart and takes no shit from anyone…
 photo download201_zps5wiaqzyz.jpg
So, this is the reason she wants nothing to do with Salem, despite being deeply attracted to him. He has decided that the time has come for him to claim Ava, the first woman that he has felt such an attraction for in a very long time.

But Ava is not convinced about Salem….he’s possessive and controlling and he’s going to do what every other man has done to her. He wants her. She tells him she’s only into casual flings…he persists..The chase is on…
 photo 79bf2564671bb55d529e74b6077b11ae_zpssgxbic7n.jpg

A lot happens in this book. The main plot is about the discovery that someone thought to be a vampire is setting up brothels and kidnapping vampires and demons to use as sex slaves. Sam and Jared work on a plan together with their squads to rescuing the sex prisoners and destroying the brothels and the persons responsible.

Characters from previous books make an appearance and we also meet new characters…Salem’s Sire, Will – a totally repulsive and horrible character, his mate, a total idiotic bimbetto and Will’s daughter, Gina – a bitch beyond description. Manipulative, ghastly and determined to cause problems between Ava and Salem. Priceless how Ava handled that bitch….
 photo NEkgKq8Wpdn2nm_1_b_zpsonka343x.jpg
The camaraderie and closeness between Ava and her fellow squad members was pretty awesome…and the entertaining scenes of Sam training her squad of fighters!!!!
 photo unnamed202_zpssirrwybk.jpg
And Ava moving in with Salem….he’s never going to be the same again…..did he actually agree she could move all her own stuff to his and now their pad???? Yes, you did!!!!Don’t worry, she’s going to brighten up your life…I promise!!!

Another thing that makes this series such a fun and enjoyable read, is the author’s writing. Being an English author, the prose is witty, humorous and filled with a load of laugh out loud moments. It’s light and upbeat and certainly lifts you up into a cloud of delight.

I am so looking forward to the next book!!!

A huge letdown after the first three books.
I guess I just never really liked either of the main characters.

There's Ava - an annoyingly bubbly girl who is "quirky". She likes to hum, adores the color pink, and talks excessively. In other words, she's got the personality of a 13 year old girl on a sugar high. She calls Salem her "cuddly Bear" and I could just hear it in my head like nails on a chalkboard of her saying it in baby-talk. Kill me. I'm all about girl-power and not cutting down other women, but she's fictional so I get to say what I really feel about her: Shut the fuck up and grow the fuck up. You're an adult woman.

She made it funny. Ava? Not so much...

Now, let's talk about Salem. In the first book, when Sam meets him, she says that his real name is Edward but went by Salem for some reason. He was also born in Ireland. Do we learn why he's called Salem? No. Do we get anything on his Irish heritage, or even the idea that he was from Ireland? No. All we get is some dominating asshole who pulls out all the alpha bullshit like pegging her against a wall so she can't escape, telling her that she is his possession, picking her up and forcing her to go where he wants her to go. At one point in the book, he sees another vampire she's working with touching her elbow - her elbow - and he freaks out:

Once her back met the wall, I placed my hands either side of her head. "You let him touch you."

"Just my elbow..."

"Whether it's your elbow, your ass, your breasts isn't the point - every inch of you matters." And every inch of her was mine.

Oh brother! Can I roll my eyes across the floor now? I would have kneed this guy in the balls if he expected me to never touch another male again in my life. She needs to keep some sort of 10 foot buffer zone between her and every man that exists? Shopping is going to be hell.

Could someone roll me to the store and throw some butter in my ball?

So, I hated the couple. Luckily, the other characters in this series are still awesome and I'm willing to give the next book a try. But, now I'm nervous. I've lost my faith in the series, so I'm not going to hold my breath.

I am not a huge PNR reader, but I have been enjoying this series. Consumed has two new MC, Ava and Salem, but Sam and Jared are very much involved in the storyline as well as the Legion and the new all-female Legion.

The main storyline I did enjoy because it was something different with some new frenemies, which I have a feeling will come into play later in the series. Good or bad, I am not sure. What I didn’t like was the side story that seems to be very repetitive with the first 3 books in the series and I am really tired of.

On to book 5 next month!

Consumed is the fourth book in the Deep in Your Veins Series. My favorite Vampires are back and hotter than ever! Ava Sanchez has been invited to join the ranks of the Grand High Master Vampires. Joining the ranks will mean fighting the good fight alongside her crush Salem McCauley. As Ava and Salem grow closer together their attraction expands to an unbelievable level. With testosterone, passion, and vampire powers galore, the stakes are high for Ava and Salem to find their happily ever after together!

“I feel sort of… calm when you’re with me. And I think about you constantly when you’re not."
Told in multiple POV, Consumed offers another blockbuster paranormal hit that will leave Wright fans salivating for more. The action and suspense are off the charts and of course, we get a full dose of the entire crew to keep us entertained the entire read. This series will never get old and with such a fantastical world to explore, I look forward to more from these smoking hot vamps!
“Then I guess I love you.”
Overall, I highly recommend this series to any paranormal romance fans. Suzanne Wright is by far my go-to author when it comes to magical creatures of any kind. Her spunky females and alpha males always keep me on the edge of my seat the entire read. I am looking forward to the next in the series for sure!

Here Be Sexist Vampires - part 4!

I’m a huge fan of this series, and was so excited to get back into Suzanne Wright’s unique vampire world. I thought she had finished the series at the end of the last book, which closed off Sam and Jared’s story, so I was stoked to see that she is continuing on and writing about some of the side characters.

This book takes place shortly after the ending of Taste of Torment and features Salem, a soldier in the Legion, and Ava, who was introduced in the last book. There has been hard core flirting and eye fuckery going on between these two ever since they met, but Salem has been hot and cold with Ava, and now their time has come.

I love Ava! She is perky and bright, but hilariously sarcastic and totally badass with a sassy attitude.

Relationships never worked well for me. Guys liked me well enough until they realised just how quirky I really was. The cheeriness, the humming, the giggling, the optimism, and the ‘being a morning person’ thing – or ‘dusk person’, in my case – would begin to wear on them.
Eventually, they would get frustrated with me all the time, would try to change me, and then I’d have to punch them in the dick until they vomited.

And Salem couldn’t be more different - all dark and surly and highly irritable. He is also a man who knows what he wants, and what he wants is Ava.

“The thing is, baby, I’ve had a taste of you now.” Recalling how her mouth had felt beneath mine in the bar, I almost groaned. “There’s no going back. As far as I’m concerned, you already belong to me. Every single inch of you. And what’s mine stays mine.” Reluctantly releasing her, I stepped back. “Accept it, Ava. The sooner you do that, the simpler things will be.”

Yes, Salem is rocking the alpha caveman thing, and he does it well! Warning all other men on their island to stay away from Ava, and waiting for her to come to accept that when he tells her he wants to be with her, it’s a permanent thing.

“You are so ridiculously stubborn.”
“This isn’t stubbornness. This is me knowing exactly what I want and being determined to get it.” He cupped my chin. “Look me in the eyes and tell me you don’t want me.”
“Will you leave me alone if I do?”
“No.” His gaze pierced mine as he whispered, “Lie to me, baby.”

Oh yes, the man has some smooth moves, and things progress quickly between these two as the chemistry explodes into some seriously hot sexy time. But the chemistry is just the start of things, and Salem has a lot to overcome in order to learn how to be with somebody as strong as Ava, and I loved watching the big, gruff vampire adjust to being in a relationship as he slowly comes to understand Ava, and his feelings for her.

“It scares me how much I’ve come to need you just to be okay, and just how much you – this one little person – is important to me.”

The romance unfolds amidst a whole heap of drama unfurling in The Hollow where they live. Firstly, the legion becomes aware of an illegal brothel specialising in supernaturals – all unwilling – and Salem’s sire, his mate and his ex-lover all show up intent on causing drama. There’s a lot of fighting and action that always feature in this series, with most of the legion getting in on the action and all of the awesome vampire super powers coming into play. And, of course, as always, there is the fantastic interplay between characters and the snarky banter that Suzanne Wright does so well!

“I mean it, Ava.”
“Oh, I know you do… which is why your opinions will now be redirected to ‘1-800-I-fail-to-give-a-flying-fuck’.”

“You’d better have a damn good platonic reason why you’re in my sister’s apartment.”
“Really? I’m devastated that I can’t provide you with one.”

And as a bonus, there is a lot of time spent with the huge cast of characters that have been introduced over the previous three books, and of course we get a fair bit of time with Sam and Jared – both individually and as a couple, and I loved every moment with them.

I really enjoyed this book. It’s fast-paced, funny, sexy, and all kinds of kick-ass, but it didn’t hold my interest as much as I would have liked. I would pick it up and easily put it down, only to pick it up a week later to read a bit more, than put it down again. It took me a long time to read this book and it’s not as strong as the earlier books in the series but I still thought it was a great read.

3.5 stars.

I'm sorry, but I have to be honest: I'm not really interested in Salem and Ava as a couple, or as main characters. The only reason I decided to read this book was because I heard Knox was in it, so after second try of this book (first time I only got to 23% before having to put it on hiatus...) I just skimmed it really bad, only stopping and read properly when Knox appeared and when we got Jared's POV at the end of the book. So two stars for my babes Knox and Jared. Though just because of them two, I kinda want to give 5 stars, but since it's not their story it wouldn't be right. Lol.

Book 4 features a new couple. There was still plenty of Sam and Jared so it felt like a smooth transition in the series.

I liked both main characters, more Salem. He is the broody, dangerous but very protective hero. Ava pushed away a little too much for my liking but she was a likable character.

The series overall is good, just a rough beginning in book 1 that I think is still affecting my overall feelings of the series. I like it enough, I'm still going to read the next book.

This was a re-read because I’d heard that she was rolling out two new novellas, and I wanted to refresh myself with the Deep in Your Vein series. Unfortunately, Captivated which will feature…
Max (senses stealer) & Paige (somewhat bitchy gal that helped protect Imani)
Damien (astral projector) & Lexi (I believe the only new character-I think she’s human, a first for the series)
Ryder (mind sifter) & Maya (jaguar shifter)
… won’t be released until October 28th of this year. (probably should’ve checked that before diving in. Regardless, I love this series, and look forward to the new books… it’s been years.

Re-read Nov. 2020
This is the first “spin-off” book and follows Salem and Ava. Salem has been around since Here Be Sexist Vampires; he’s the tall, broody vamp that doesn’t talk/express emotion much. Ava came onto the scene in Taste of Torment; she’s the small “energizer bunny” that was from Sam’s old hive. (her brother Cristiano is the one who loved Sam even before she was a vamp.) I really wish he would’ve got a happy ending, but he dropped off and I believe the series is over. Her website said Paige/Max would be up next, but it’s been 5 years. 🤷‍♀‍🤷‍♀‍) moving on…

I was originally worried about this because I’ve found when authors move from the “multi-book” to a “one and done” layout for the secondary character's “spinoff” it’s not always a smooth transition. So, color me surprised when this turned out to be my favorite, but I can see why other readers didn’t feel the same because there’s not a ton of development. The book starts with Salem having already decided that Ava is gonna be his, and it doesn’t take Ava much to get with the program. Then she goes straight from “ok” to declaring him hers to wannabe OW Gina in like 15 minutes, and all her friends stand behind her because somehow, they know about the convo 3 pages earlier. 🤣🤣 So yea, it’s silly, but I went with it. I guess I was just in the mood for instalove.

Ava is a crazy, but surprisingly she didn’t get on my nerves, which was shocking, because I typically do not dig quirky girls. She’s also secure with herself, and handled the wannabe OW like a boss. Salem was 100% dominant alpha; he had that something that Jared was missing.

“I’m not going to fuck you. I don’t want a one- night stand or a fling.” “What do you want?” His eyes flared. “Everything.”

“Besides, if this was the other way around and my ex was here–” “He’d be dead by now.” And I was totally serious.

If all that yummy goodness isn’t enough. We get the intro to Knox Thorne in this book 😍😍when he comes onto the scene to avenge one of his demons. It’s a small cameo, and none of the sentinels are named, but I believe Levi is around.

Bottom Line- I really liked this one. I liked Salem and his total OTT manliness, and even dug Ava and her crazy. They do go 0 to 100 in a chapter, but I appreciated how the “wavering” and “ow” issues were handled… like adults…

“They’re the only two options open to you. You can give him a chance instead of making him pay for what other blokes have done to you, or you can stick to your guns and then watch him with someone else. It’s all a matter of which you prefer.”

I’d prefer not to waste time out of my life talking about her either. But this is what she’s going to do: every chance she gets, she’ll say a little about your relationship with her; she’ll tell me things that she thinks will hurt me or make me doubt you. And she’ll believe it gives her some sort of power over me; some power over us.”

Character notes. These won’t all fit into the notes section, and it’s too much for me to keep straight without having it down somewhere. Also, if she ever comes back to the series… I’ll be ready. 😂

A good addition to the series. Ava is perky and outgoing whilst Salem is the more reserved of the two – to put it mildly. Salem and Ava as a couple certainly work, the chemistry is good and the interactions between the two had me smiling.

Loved seeing the short glimpse of Knox in this book, and hope there may be a book in the future with some more overlap.

Whilst this book isn't as fab as the first 3 in the series, Wright's writing style and the interactions between Ava and Salem make this a enjoyable read.

“No.” His gaze pierced mine as he whispered, “Lie to me, baby.”

Wow, I LOVED this book!

Ava is such an adorable bad-ass, and I loved her attitude. Salem is so very sexy, and I loved how possessive he was over Ava. These 2 are an amazing couple, and their chemistry off the charts.

I just love reading a book where both leading characters are just amazing, and there is nothing better than a feisty, smart-mouth heroine, and a possessive, sexy alpha hero. The romance was fabulous, and the plot great. A lot of snarky and funny bantering, and great secondary characters.

A must-read for all PNR lovers!

I was quite a bit disappointed after this...

it took me awhile to put down my overwhelmed feelings that I had after I've read the first three books...

This story takes us into lives of Salem (one of the squad's members)and Ava (Sam's friend from her previous vamp nest) and what I resented the most is the "stuffed" feeling that surrounded me while reading.
In short it felt like this book consisted of all the stuff in the first three books...and it was too much...I couldn't really "feel" everything I was supposed to...

although I did like Salem...well, i will always like an alpha - vamp or not!

Not sure why I put the rest of this series on the backburner for so long after reading the first three....as Suzanne Wright always puts a big smile on my face.... with her brand of paranormal smutty romances....it's clearly time to catch up.

3 1/2 "If it ain't broke don't fix it." Stars!

This was good. Very similar plot to some of the previous books. But it was good to see another couple in The Legion get their HEA while Sam and Jared are very present in the story.

Ava was very phycho-sassy and Salem was adorably grumpy and overprotective. I really like them and all these characters in The Legion; so I'm looking forward to continuing to the next book. Happy reading!

Exceeded expectations <3 my favourite book in this series just because of how much I loved the characters. Salem was amazingly protective, possessive, and caring. Ava was so sweet and bubbly that you can't help but love her. Together they balanced each other while solving the mystery behind the current case that's being tackled.

Salem is deadly, fearsome and scary to all except Ava and she just loved teasing her teddy bear <3

""Why would I leave my cuddly bear?"
A muscle in his jaw ticked. "Ava.""

Cracked me up every time how offended he would get...

""Just like I'll never betray you. There's never going to be anyone else for me. I love my warm, cuddly bear too much." She patted my chest. "Ooh, here comes the lethal scowl.""

I liked it but not enough to continue the series any time soon.

It has a lot of my favorite elements but it is also a bit too..... 'Rinse an Repeat' for me right now.

There is adult intimate scenes, suspense, crime and a touch of mystery.

But it just didn't come anywhere near to 'Wowing' me.

I'm a bit bored with this series.

This was a really good story. I liked both Ava and Salem and their story was had a very good plot on with a good balance of the action and romance plots.

Ava has had a rough life at times. Pretty much everyone outside her brother made her feel unwanted....like she wasn't good enough and had to change to get love. This came from family (other than her brother), foster parents and then down the road, boyfriends. She and her brother were turned by the same vampire that changed Sam (the heroine from the first 3 books) and they helped Sam out in the battle they engaged in (in book #3).

Salem s a vampire that works for the vampire legions under Sam and Jared. He's a stewing mess of guilt and misery over people he cared about that he wasn't able to protect when he was still human. He's never felt he deserved anything good but felt that his service with the legion has made his life better.

When Salem meets Ava he fights with himself for months, thinking he's not good enough for her but finally caves in, realizing he's too selfish to stay away when he wants her so much. He has a task convincing Ava though because since every guy she's ever gone out with has eventually tried to change her to meet their requirements she doesn't allow any serious relationships. It's hard for her to turn him away too. Ava wants Salem but is afraid to risk yet another guy rejecting her for herself. Salem is unwilling to take anything temporary, deciding that it's all or nothing with Ava...that she's his and he's not taking no for an answer. He is willing to convince her though and he does pretty well at that. It doesn't hurt that Sam is doing her best to try to stoke the fires between Ava and Salem.

Sam has also offered Ava a spot on an all female legion team that she's putting together and this causes some issues as Salem is way protective and has a hard time with Ava in danger. Ava however, isn't going to allow Salem to run her life and decides what she will and wont do, much to Salem's chagrin. While she's deciding about the position, Sam asks Ava to join them on a mission where they rescue a number of captives they found in a brothel (which is illegal in vamp society) and the prostitutes are captives (which makes it even worse) and of varying paranormal races. Most are vampires but the fact that one of the women was a demon caused some issues when the demons want vengeance. So, while Salem and Ava are fighting and making up and deciding how their relationship will proceed, they're also dealing with a big mystery trying to locate the people behind the brothel before the demons do. It certainly made for an interesting plot and I wasn't ever bored. Things do get resolved and Salem and Ava get through their difficulties to end the story with a very nice HEA.

This was a really enjoyable story. I will say that I loved the first 3 better...there was just something about the relationship between Sam and Jared that grabbed me and made me love them. But Ava and Salem came very close to that and I really liked their characters and their story so I was still pleased with the addition to the series. I'd recommend this story. Thumbs up. :D

now was this book worth the year wait?? HELL YES

I loved Ava's character. she's always super happy and super optimistic, but that doesn't make her oblivious to all the evil around the world. She tends to use her "ditziness" as a weapon to make people underestimate her and then she strikes!!! plus her personality is just super adorable, gah I love her.

Salem, that big ol' cuddly bear. Salem is very protective of Ava. And whenever he picks her up by her t-shirt is just something that sounds hilarious!!! It's like a mama lion picking up a cub.

This was another fucking fantastic add to the series. Now that there's a new couple to this series' I'm sure there's going to be more books coming out.

But it'll be a wait because Suzanne has another super popular series going on.......and they don't come out that quick..sorry!!

but I guess it's all worth it when they come out because her books are never super short. They have a good amount of pages, that just keeps me turning!!

***on another note!!
Does anyone else think that Blythe didn't get killed in the end?? She just looked like she really didn't want to die along with Will??

This one wasn't as good as Jared and Sam's books, but it would be very hard to top them ;)

I still really enjoyed Salem and Ava's story. Both characters were awesome, but all characters from the legion are, so it was to be expected.

It was hot and sweet and the background story about the brothel was very good. I also really liked it that there were some glimpses of Knox (from the demon series). I really liked his book too :)

The only thing I didn't get was that everybody kept saying that Salem was some sort of psychopath. I really didn't see it that way and I didn't think he was anymore dangerous than all the other vampires in the legion. Sure ..the guy wasn't very chatty, but that doesn't make him a psychopath ??

I can't wait for more books by this author, because she is definitely one of my favorites :)

4 stars from me.

Consumed is book 4 in the Deep in Your Veins series and it was not for me. Although it had everything I love to make an awesome book, a possessive H, cute but capable h, and great supporting characters, it still wasn't enough to save it for me. It was so boring I barely wanted to finish and actually contemplated dumping it. Hopefully book 5 will be better.

I don’t know why I always feel the need to write lengthy reviews, it’s incredibly stressful. So I’ll just say… as always with Suzanne Wright’s books, I loved it.

I confess, I didn't read the blurb. All I did was pick up the book. To my surprise, the main characters are not Sam and Jared! What? Why? Instead, we move on to the female vampires Sam is looking to add to an all female legion. This has never happened before. Not sure if I like having a book not about Sam, I read on. Fortunately, she does show up as a secondary character.

The new characters are Ava and Salem. Ava is a powerpuff girl. She is adorable, cute and cuddly. No one takes her seriously. Because she looks like this in my head.

Then when the fighting begins, this is when everyone starts wanting to protect the petite adorable Ava. What they don't know is that she has her own superpowers even if she belongs to the "weakest" of the three vampire types. She does go all bad ass on the bad guys.

Now what is more interesting is the introduction of demons. Yes, DEMONS who are kind of hot. Shifters also abound but at this point, they are mostly victims. The entire story and how hard Ava needs to battle to prove she can match Salem is frustrating. Fortunately, Ava has Sam on her side as a matchmaker.

From a romantic perspective, Ava and Salem seem like opposites. But when they come together, they remind me of Voodoo and Maul from WildCATS. Except Maul is more gracious even if he is just as taciturn as Salem.

This story does move at a fast past and I was consumed. Loved the ride and the ending. Recommended to paranormal romance readers who enjoy exploding fluffy bunnies and the one men who love them.
