My Weirdest School #2

Ms. Cuddy Is Nutty!

With more than 12 million books sold, the My Weird School series really gets kids reading!

In the second book in the laugh-out-loud My Weirdest School series, the students of Ella Mentry School are about to get a wonderful gift—a million dollars! A.J. and the gang vote to create an in-school, state-of-the-art TV station so the morning announcements can be broadcast to all the classes. There's even enough money to hire Ms. Cuddy, a new digital media arts teacher who knows a thing or two about broadcasting. But soon Ms. Cuddy decides the ratings on the announcements are too low, and the show needs to "get more eyeballs." How long will the camera keep rolling?

Perfect for reluctant readers and word lovers alike, Dan Gutman's hugely popular My Weird School series has something for everyone. Don't miss the hilarious adventures of A.J. and the gang!

The author of over 80 books in a little over a decade of writing, Dan Gutman has written on topics from computers to baseball. Beginning his freelance career as a nonfiction author dealing mostly with sports for adults and young readers, Gutman has concentrated on juvenile fiction since 1995. His most popular titles include the time-travel sports book Honus and Me and its sequels, and a clutch of baseball books, including The Green Monster from Left Field. From hopeful and very youthful presidential candidates to stunt men, nothing is off limits in Gutman's fertile imagination. As he noted on his author Web site, since writing his first novel, They Came from Centerfield, in 1994, he has been hooked on fiction. "It was fun to write, kids loved it, and I discovered how incredibly rewarding it is to take a blank page and turn it into a WORLD."

Gutman was born in New York City in 1955, but moved to Newark, New Jersey the following year and spent his youth there.

This was another cute installment in the My Weirdest School series. This one was originally released several years ago, but the audiobook was finally created and is coming out on September 8, 2026. I’m thankful to Harper Audio for the complimentary ALC via NetGalley, which gave me the opportunity to read it before publication and share my thoughts with my audience.

I was initially drawn to this series because of its narrator, Maxwell Glick, who continues to lend his talents to this installment in Dan Gutman’s quirky series.

This series is definitely geared toward elementary-aged students, and it’s a fun way to bring humor to the various archetypes kids encounter at school. I think it would be particularly good for children who are a bit reluctant or fearful about school. It’s quirky, humorous, and just plain silly.

I think the audiobooks are a great way to experience these books. Glick brings the characters to life and makes them even more absurd. Full disclosure: adults may not appreciate the performance as much, as it can come across as a bit “too much,” but it’s exactly the kind of over-the-top performance that young kids will absolutely eat up.

Mrs. Lilly Is Silly! + Ms. Beard Is Weird! = Ms. Cuddy Is Nutty!

I personally think Dan Gutman should should... stop with the My Weird School books. Sorry... He's officially out of ideas. I LOVED My Weird School: #1-21 Box Set and My Weird School Daze: #1-12 Box Set ; even a SELECT FEW of the My Weirder School 10 Pack Box Set were good and funny, so I guess this is kind of disappointing. But I didn't expect any better. You can only milk one series for so many years...

This book is about A.J. and his school are making a news crew. You'll love the part when A.J. makes a joke on the bottom of page 56.

This was absolutely ridiculous in the best possible way. 😂 Dan Gutman really knows how to write the kind of silly, over-the-top humor that keeps kids entertained, and Ms. Cuddy Is Nutty! was such a fun listen.

I love how the My Weirdest School books take completely ordinary school situations and somehow turn them into total chaos. Ms. Cuddy is definitely another memorable addition to the collection of adults at Ella Mentry School who make you wonder how this school is still functioning. 😂 The story moves quickly, the humor never really stops, and there are plenty of moments that had me smiling.

Maxwell Glick's narration was fantastic! He brings so much energy to the characters and gives everyone their own personality. For a book this silly, having a narrator who completely commits to the craziness makes such a difference, and he absolutely did.

This would be such a great audiobook for younger readers, especially kids who love funny school stories but might not always want to sit down with a longer book. It's fast-paced, goofy, and just plain FUN.

I would like to thank HarperAudio Children's and NetGalley for a free ALC of this title in exchange for an honest review.

I think this is going to be a case of me not really understanding or being into the schtick of this book. I get the gag genre in general especially for the demographic and I think in that sense, this book succeeds and will probably be very enjoyable to many children. I would recommend it, even, to precocious children who laugh at silly things. If your child is really into fart jokes (not that there are any fart jokes in here, just the same vibe) then this might be a book for them and I feel like the whole gag genre of middle grade is one that I need to look into more to see if it's just not for me overall or if it's this book in particular that didn't do it for me. That is to be decided but right now I'll just say that I can see the appeal to the demographic, but I can't vouch for my own enjoyment (even though I'm known to like a good middle grade)

-I received this audiobook from NetGalley-

Listened with my 10 year old son.

He absolutely loved the book, he would repeat the catch phrases as they were said, and he thought that the ending was really neat!

I liked the book, I thought it was unfortunate how the adult (Ms. Cuddy) kept having imposter syndrome? To the point that the kids had to solve the situation on their own, cool that they did it and don't know how it could have been done differently, but I just thought she was a bit much. Could have also been then narrator just doing an amazing job and really brought out her personality!

I like that they are making these into audiobooks, as I find the consistent narrator who does a great job, and the repeatable parts really help kids with getting into longer series.

My son has really enjoyed several books this series, but didn’t find this particular book in the series that fun or entertaining. He said, “Ms. Cuddy is so annoying.” He didn’t find the news station relatable. He did laugh several times throughout the story.

I think lots of kids will enjoy this book and find it funny, but sadly it just wasn’t for us. I will say the narration is fantastic and really brings the story to life! So, for that reason I recommend listening to the audiobook if you decide to pick this one up!

A friend chose it for me. It was nice to reread this kids series being way older because the corny humor hit. A tad too repetitive on the jokes at some parts.

Book Review: AJ and his gang are back again in this fun book for kids. Their school Ella Mentry School received a million dollars gift from Mrs. Mentry who used to teach at the school years ago. Now they have to come up with a contest to decide what to do with the money. Some students wanted to spend the money on pizzas, ice cream, candy, racing cars, football team, a skate park or flat-screen TVs. But their teacher Mr. Cooper had a better ideal.

Perfect for reluctant readers. Dan Gutman’s hugely popular My Weird School series has something for everyone. Don’t miss the hilarious adventures of A.J. and the gang. The illustrations by Jim Paillot helps to makes the story even more hilarious. I highly recommend this book.

FTC Disclosure: I received a review copy of this book from HarperCollins in exchange for a fair and honest review. I was not monetarily compensated for my opinion in any way.

Dan Gutman understands young reader’s humor and has created a fantastic book formula to draw in even the most reluctant of readers. The My Weird School series is perfect for students to practice their reading skills with its repetitive yet hysterical narrative and story lines. But don’t mention that part to your kiddos, they might run away in fear they could learn something! A must have collection for any grade school library or classroom!

In this edition the school’s name sake Ms. Ella Mentry has made a generous donation of one million dollars to Ella Mentry School; but how to spend it? Pizza palooza? Infinite ice cream and scores of sweets? Donate the money to a school that doesn’t have a million dollars?? The possibilities are endless and making a decision is challenging but someone has to do something!

My favorite character in the book is Ms. Cuddy. She is a crazy teacher that came to make a TV studio. She is hired to help with the morning announcements. She wants her schools ratings to go up to pass Dirk school. She tries to make the kids do everything she wants them to do but it doesn't go up it keeps going down.
THe anchors on the announcements are A.j and Andrea. The rest of the kids are helping out with the morning announcements like lighting and makeup. The kids think that Ms. Cuddy is nutty. The genre of the book is a fiction book. This is a series of books called My Weirdest School and this is book two of four. I think that Dan Gutman is a brilliant written.
It took me two weeks to read the great book. It is recommended for kids that like to be entertained. The moral of the story is that you should never give up. The kids try everything to get their ratings up.

Love the play on words, similar to Amelia Bedelia but not so much of it that the story gets lost.
