Theodore Lyons is trying his best. The son of Irish immigrants, he wants to be a reverend, raise a family with his high school sweetheart, and keep himself safe. Above all, he wants things to be done right. But a few things stand in his way…
His twin brother, Thomas, is hell-bent on making his own way in the world, even if it costs him his family. His mother, Mary, is unpredictable, and can’t be trusted in a crisis. Janie, the love of his life, seems always just out of reach. Meanwhile, the Vietnam war is raging, and the future of his family is always uncertain.
Unbeknownst to Theodore, there is history predating all of this that haunts his every waking moment. Hunger, death, and fear live in his bones, and leave scars that he may never be able to erase.
This story is beautifully tied together and I was attached to the characters from the start. The ending was so poetically written and the story planned so perfectly that I was engrossed and couldn’t stop reading until it ended. Even with the few errors that are bound to happen in a self published book, the authors talent and passion shines through. Amazing Job Luna 🩷
I got this book at Morgan Hill bookstore in New London, NH. Started and finished this book on my way back home. It's a raw and vulnerable story, but I felt like I struggled to keep up with some of the nuances (for lack of a better word) in the novel.
