4--Gruesome--Stars!!!

This suspense element in this one was...

A bit on the gruesome and pervy side!

I thought this was a solid follow-up to Laurel Heights 1. To me it felt more like a new story vs. a continuation of the first one.

There were almost two storylines going....the cliffhanger we were left with at the end of Laurel Heights 1 and then a new mystery to solve.

I honestly didn't think the storyline that continued from LH1 was needed and it almost made for too much suspense and not enough time for the romance between Will and Scott.

My favorite thing from LH1 was the development of Will and Scott's relationship. Watching them go from hating each other and thinking the other is straight to being in love. There were a lot of LOL moments. And while some of that banter was still there, it wasn't the same as book 1.

With that being said, the mystery element was definitely strong. I had a few guesses as to "who done it". But in the end I was...

So kudos for that!

There were a few steamy scenes, which were satisfying considering the length of the book.

Based on the blurb, I was afraid this one would be drama filled...so I was glad to see that wasn't the case.

I think if you were a fan of LH1, then you definitely want to pick this one up.

Laurel Heights 1?

Laurel Heights 2?

This is a lot of book crammed into a very small space. It's actually 2 books, the first being a good, albeit predictable, thriller about the heroes from book one hunting a rather boringly gay, boringly self-loathing, serial killer. This idea has been done before, of course, but that really doesn't bother me. The murders were appropriately gruesome, I was fooled into thinking I had it figured out when I didn't, all the points for a good thriller were hit, and a satisfying conclusion was reached.

The other story being told here was a continuation of the story arc from book 1. This part of the book just didn't work pour moi. The victim in this bit was actually rather annoying because all he had to do to make the baddies stop was tell someone! The explanations given for his silence worked in book 1, but here were just not believable. These sections of the book felt like padding and were an unnecessary distraction.

If you read and liked book 1, I'd give this a go. It's entertaining, but be prepared for a little bit o' the eye rolls.

Ah, Laurel Heights... For a very long time, this was my all-time, number one M/M romance favorite. It wasn't until I joined GoodReads and started digging deeper into my love of M/M romance fiction and discovered authors like Kendall McKenna and NR Walker that other books started giving Laurel Heights a run for it's money. Of course it still stayed on my fuck yeah, 5+ stars list, where it will forever remain. It was/is a perfect storm book for me with it's in-the-closet sexy police officers going undercover, posing as a gay couple and falling in love. Perfection!

The sequel finds our heroes MC Scott Turner and MC Will Harrison all healed up from their last case and living together in Will's house. Deeply in love, both are still working on the force and their captain has put in a special request for them to be able to work at the same headquarters together, despite their romantic status. Scott has a new male partner and Will's partner is days away from giving birth, so the two find themselves working closely together most of the time. They are working on a particularly nasty serial killer case and this particular serial killer is targeting gay men. On top of this, Will is letting Scott's new partner, Kelly, make him jealous with the extra flirtatious attention he is paying Scott and it is causing strain on their relationship.

In the middle of all this, the Laurel Heights gang shows up again. There has been another murder in their gated community. Will and Scott rush to the scene to help and support their friends and get to the bottom of this newest development. (It would be wise to re-read the ending of Laurel Heights to re-familiarize yourself with the players of the neighborhood, what crimes were committed, who was killed, who the victims were and who went to jail. Even though I'd read the book at least 3 times, I still had to re-read the end to get a handle on what was happening.)

So, as you can see, there was a lot going on in the sequel! I hate to say it, but for me, it was overkill. Where I would have preferred some easy, breezy Will and Scott, enjoying each other at least part of the time, there was just too much going on around them and both were in a constant state of stress and angst. We did get a couple good let-off-some-steam sex scenes, so I can't complain there, but I think I'm kinda looking a gift horse in the mouth. Damn, I don't wanna be that person... Maybe it's just that the first book was SUCH a favorite of mine, a sequel was never gonna cut it, no matter what was written.

Of course I'm still going to recommend this one to those who have read the first book. Will and Scott are a dream team and stressed out/pulled in 20 directions Will and Scott are a million times better than no Will and Scott any day of the week.

I'm so glad this was finally released. I was waiting forever for a sequel to Laurel Heights and Laurel Heights 2 was definitely worth the wait! It made me so happy to finally get my greedy little hands on it.

I fell in love with Laurel Heights about two years ago now. It's been on my favorites list since, and I've read it several times since the first time. I also adore Will and Scott, always have always will. And I've always wanted more of their story and to see them as a happy couple again. This book gave me everything I wanted and more, because I'm finally happy to let them go as characters, knowing they have their HEA.

I'm afraid to say too much about this because I don't want to spoil it for anyone. But I can say, it's definitely not something I would recommend reading as a standalone. What happens in book 1 is very present in book 2 and to really understand everything, you should definitely read that first. It'll also make everything more satisfying, especially the Laurel Heights stuff. Also, I was worried about one of our guys for a while (though I trust Lisa to never actually kill one of them) which kind of brought me back to the first book just a little.

Laurel Heights 2 is just as hot as the first book. It has some new characters, the return of most of the old ones, and a surprise or two along the way. This book wrapped up everything from book one, and also left me feeling content with Will and Scott as a couple. This is the last book (no more sequels!) and I'm happy with that. I'm happy with leaving them here.

Definitely recommended for those who loved the first book and want more of these guys. And I'd recommend both of them for people who love sexy cop stories like I do.

Buddy Read with my good friend Nick Pageant!

He may have left me in the dust, but it turns out that wasn't a problem at all because I think we might actually be psychically linked. Seriously, check out the dude's review. It is practically word for word my thoughts on this book.

The only thing that I'll add to Nick's review is that I thought every male character in this story was interchangeable. So much so, in fact, that I could barely keep Scott, Will, and Kelly straight in my head for large chunks of the book. Heck, even the psychotic self-loathing murderer was interchangeable with Scott. I'm serious! At one point we're given a glimpse into the mind of the killer and he refers to himself using the capitalized "He" and "Him" (like one would when speaking/writing about (a) God). As a reader, I found the capitalization in this context jarring but understandable if used deliberately to draw a parallel between the psycho and how he sees himself. Unfortunately, near the end of the book Scott's internal monologue starts capitalizing "He" and "Him" willy-nilly as well, undermining the effect that the formatting had when only applied to the killer's character. *shakes head sadly*

All in all, though, Laurel Heights 2 was a totally serviceable sequel that kept me entertained for a few hours.

***3.5 Solid but Disappointed Stars***

I've been waiting for the sequel to Laurel Heights since I read that damn epilogue! But I have to be honest, this one left me underwhelmed.

The unresolved issue introduced in the epilogue of Laurel Heights was told as a secondary story in the sequel, and really felt like more of an afterthought to tie up loose ends. The main focus being the investigation of The Castrator.

Yep, pretty much self explanatory. The crimes were graphic at times, and definitely had me grimacing. So if you can get squeamish about the male genitalia....you've been warned.

At the conclusion of this book the main thought that I had was that it felt, I guess unnecessary. There wasn't much of Will and Scott's relationship in this one as the primary focus was the investigation, and that has left me hugely disappointed. I was hoping the direction the author would go in would focus more on the unresolved issue presented at the end of the first book and definitely more of Will and Scott.

Even though I was disappointed with the direction of the book, I still enjoyed the playful banter of the characters and any one on one time we had with the leading men. I'm a big fan of Lisa Worrall's writing, and she definitely had me guessing up until the very end as to the killer.

So, overall I liked it but didn't love it, with a watered down feeling as to the "romance" aspect.

Yay!! It's out, I've read it (sorry for waking you up at 1.30am hubby of mine), all of our pestering paid off Trish!! 4.5 stars from me for this, the only sequel (unless one of the characters shouts in Lisa's ear) to the absolutely fabulous Laurel Heights.

This story carries on where LH1 left off, a couple of months or so down the line. Yes, Scott and Will had caught the perv who was responsible for torturing Todd and murdering two other guys on the exclusive Laurel Heights estate in New York BUT Lisa left us with a really nasty snippet which showed that Jay the perv had had an accomplice or should I say student/helper who had been ordered to carry on 'the good work' by Jay....the 'good work' being the further torturing of Todd (and I for one would still like to know why they chose him). I'm very proud to say (pats herself on the back and does a little happy dance) that by a process of elimination Dr Watson, I worked out who the second bad guy was before this story was released and was more than pleased (think ecstatic!!) when a certain someone shot him dead in this story...go ★★★★★★!! Oh, and as for the other little surprise right at the end, **high fives** author!!

We had a new serial killer too, The Castrator....yes, he/she/it did that!! We had a new partner for Scott (Kelly 'hottie' Dawson), no repeat of the Julie and Grace show unfortunately but Julie was very close to giving birth and still working, Good idea of Lisa's to sort of make Kelly the 'red herring' in this story...yes, he was covering something up and I'll leave you to discover what that was.

As far as two of my fave hottie's are concerned, once a certain misunderstanding right at the start of the story was cleared up, their bedroom/living room/every room antics continued on, much the same as before. Boy, those two are hot!! Did they catch The Castrator?? Was Rome built in a day?? Read the book people!!

Many thanks Lisa!! ♥♥♥

4.5*

A villain who is an even sicker bastard than the last one

A case that hits too close to home

A mystery that set me completely on the wrong track

And my two gorgeous undercover cops who have to struggle with the case, themselves and their relationship

What more could my adventurous heart desire??? ;-)

I might be in the minority here, but I loved this book even more than the first one. My eyes were glued to my Kindle and I read it in one go.

This is by far not my first mystery, but I was wide off the mark as far as the culprit is concerned. I love it when an author is able to surprise me, even though I smacked myself mentally upside the head for not seeing the obvious, considering his choice of weapon.

What threw me off a bit was the sometimes quite strange editing. There was not always a distinction between two scenes and I had to read some of them twice to get it.

Nonetheless, like the first book, this was another great read and I would like to read more about Scott and Will someday.

A worthy sequel to Laurel Heights. I would recommend you read that book first (and if you already did you might want to skim through it to re-familarize yourself with the tease at the end and the cast of characters). While the new case could work standalone, there are events that carry over and finish playing out in this one. If you were left reeling with the last pages of the first book, you will definitely want to see how it plays out here.

Will and Scott are happy living and working together, physically healed from the events of the first book, but Scott's new partner is a source of tension between the two. It's not long at all before a frantic phone call from a friend at Laurel Heights has the men rushing back there. As if that wasn't enough tension, there is a serial killer preying on gay men and there appears to be no evidence as to their identity as the murders escalate.

I don't want to say much more about the plot, but will say that Lisa Worrall kept me guessing up until the end. There were a few surprises and a couple of twists and turns that I did not see coming. I thought both of the main story lines were handled well and we even got into the killer's mind for a bit. Will and Scott are a great couple, but I did miss a bit of the teasing and banter the two shared in the first book. I completely understood the more serious tone between the two based on everything they had been through and how deeply involved they are with the men at risk here. They are still hot as heck and I would definitely recommend this book and happily read more of them in the future.

Lovers. Friends. Enemies. Traitors. Twists. Double twists. And then the end! OMG.
A new chapter, pleeeease?

EDIT:
Voto: 4.5 stelline.

Wow! What an awesome story. Brilliantly executed with unexpected twists and turns and tons of SUSPENSE that had my heart pounding out of my chest right to the end. I LOVE Will & Scott (and the secondary characters too) and I am so sad that this is the end because I am a greedy reader and damn it, I need more! My heart and brain are whimpering together at no more stories from LH....But maybe we can have a little story about how a certain surprise couple came about with smexy details? Hmmm please??? *begs* lol.

This was book 2 in the "Laurel Heights" series. Will and Scott are happy living and working together physically healed from the events in book 1. When Scott gets a new gay partner Detective Kelly Dawson it causes tension between the guys because he likes to tease Will. Kelly however has a big relationship secret of his own and to make matters worse they get a call from a friend that lives in Laurel Heights their has been another murder they have another serial killer. Scott and Will want to desperately find the killer before he kills again and it is stressing them both out. A friend from Laurel Heights was arrested for the murder of David, another Laurel Heights neighbor after having found him assaulting his lover Todd when find out they are both devastated. I was shocked when we find out who the killer is after torturing Will. I really liked both of these characters in this book and the last one. I also liked the new addition in this book. This book had a lot going on in it jealousy sadistic killers paying on gay men it also had hot male on male sex in it as well. This was a well written book with no errors in grammar or spelling. I love this authors work.

What a great, freaking ride…Wowza!!! I must admit that I was a bit concerned I would be lost reading this story as it had been so long since I’d read book one, but nope, I was instantly right back on the Scott and Will bandwagon and loved every minute. Scott and Will are two of the hottest MM characters ever, and when they slam each other against the walls, the doors, the back of the couch, or on floor and then go at it, it’s some of the steamiest sex you will ever read about. Lisa Worrall nailed it…pun intended.

Will and Scott are now in a committed relationship, living together, and out & proud at the police station where they work. They are not partners on the force though, and Will is not thrilled with Scott’s new partner Kelly…a man, not a woman…and a man that he is convinced has his eye on Scott. Will and Kelly have a battle of words throughout the story and you wonder when they will come to blows. However, all is not as it appears, and more than once, we get a surprise twist where Kelly is concerned. Can’t give anything away, but I will tell you that I was wrong about him…more than once.

Laurel Heights is once again in the middle of an uproar. And even though I initially forgot who was who in that little cul de sac, it didn’t take long to put a name with a crime or scene. Jay is still the bad guy in prison, and Todd is still the victim…just not like you would think. Scott and Will are driving themselves nuts trying to keep their friends together and safe, but that’s hard to do when they can’t even wrap their minds around the issues still plaguing that exclusive enclave.

If you love hot alpha males who are devoted to each other deeply and exclusively, but fuck like it’s their last time together, then this book will be for you. If you enjoy a great mystery involving a sadistic serial killer, the violence is not a hard limit, and it’s impossible to even guess who it is, and then freak out when you finally learn…and it’s the last person you imagined…then this book is for you. If you enjoy reading about strong secondary characters, get pleasure from amazing dialogue, and hope that another book is in the works…then this book will be for you. My heart was in my throat all through the last chapter and the epilogue…that speaks volumes on how great this book turned out to be.
I can’t recommend this story highly enough. It was amazing and worth the wait and I think you will love it too.

3.5 stars. I loved the first "Laurel Heights." It had a perfect balance of romance and suspense (and this coming from someone usually not wild about mysteries.) Will and Scott kept me entertained with their banter and the whole gay-guys-pretending-to-be-straight-pretending-to-be-gay scenario. Classic. And when Scott and Will finally figured out they were hot for each other, the following scenes were more than worth the wait.

There were a few stomach-turning moments (poor Todd), and the ending had me screaming at my Kindle, but Will and Scott were so perfect for each other, that wasn't enough to drag down my rating. Plus, the mystery was well-done.

In the sequel, it's also well-done, but a little too much plot is crammed into this page count. Between picking up the story of the Laurel Heights gang and introducing a new serial killer, there wasn't much time to revisit Scott and Will as a couple outside of a few sex scenes.

I think the book would have worked better if just one of those plots were explored (preferably the Laurel Heights one; I wanted to spend more time back there with those guys.) Plus, I didn't like reading the new killer's POV. It always feels a little gratuitous, and here was no exception. He made my skin crawl, and I was deeply disturbed by being inside his head. And the manner in which he murdered his victims truly freaked me out, which I suppose was the point.

I didn't guess who the killer was (I fell for the red herring), and the climax got my heart pounding. It was nicely executed. It felt like there were two different endings, though, and the one with the Laurel Heights couples left me unsatisfied.

I wobbled between a 3 and 4 rating for this (I may change my mind later). The suspense plot held my attention, and every moment Scott and Will got a little time to themselves I was so happy. I just wish this book had achieved that balance between romance and suspense the first had. This one was definitely tipped more toward the suspense. (The bloody cover should have been my first clue.)

I'm still glad I got to revisit Scott and Will, who remain one of my favorite couples. I'd read another book about them, and I hope some of the other Laurel Heights players get their own stories (Todd and Marcus, please).

3.5 Stars ~Has it really been two years since Lisa Worrall bowled me over with Scott and Will's story in 'Laurel Heights'? It was such a great introduction to the two men. Gay homicide detectives pretending to be straight, pretending to be gay, and falling in love during the case. There was excitement, humor, and hot sex. What's not to love in that, I ask you? So, for obvious reasons, I was excited when I discovered the author was writing a second story in the series. I was hoping for just as good of a time.

It never ceases to amaze me the despicable manner which human beings can find to kill one another. The latest case, The Castrator, as the press has dubbed him, is a real psycho. Eight young men in the GLBTQ community tortured, beaten, and castrated. It's bad enough that Scott and Will are working this with their respective partners, but considering Scott's new partner is a totally hot guy, isn't helping Will's stress level. Then when they get called to Laurel Heights in the middle of the night to discover one of their friends has secretly been working as an understudy in Jay's sick games, well, it was almost too much. Scott and Will thought all that sickness was behind them when Jay was arrested and sentenced. Now they discover Todd has been abused again, and kept quiet.

There were a couple of storylines working at the same time, and I have to be honest, and say I was a little disappointed. I would've preferred seeing the guys of Laurel Heights happy, and working toward being whole, instead of having the same thing happening again. That is just my personal opinion, however. The serial killer story was good, and I definitely could've read more of that. It was nice to see Will and Scott, again, and I'm still a fan of theirs.

NOTE: This book was provided by the author for the purpose of a review on Rainbow Book Reviews.

Ugh. I don't... I guess I'm somewhere in between really liking it and just liking it. This is hard.

I love Will and Scott. In the first book, I could not get enough of them. They're so hot together, fun and charismatic. The story in book one was interesting and kept me buzzing. The Epilogue made me crazy with want for a follow up.

This though? It's not really a follow up and I find it difficult to see how the author could call it Laurel Heights 2. The events that make the Epilogue in book one so strong are barely a secondary story here. Yeah, there is a final resolution, but it was kind of glossed over. I wanted to know more about what was happening. I wanted more about Todd. More about who Mr. Kent was and how it all tied together. Not to say that the story about the castrator was not good. It was. It was also really horrific. The guy was totally nuts. And I never saw it coming! Well, maybe for one quick mili-second. But not really. I actually thought the bad guy was someone else. Both stories together though, they didn't fit well for me. I think it would have worked better as it's on book with Scott and Will, but leaving the events in Laurel Heights separate. But I guess that could have only worked if the author put more work into the story with Todd and the abuse he was suffering.

I'm a little mixed up on how I feel about a lot of this, but one thing I do know is that Scott and Will and still super hot together. I love them! I actually would like to see more books with these guys. Something that delves more into their relationship would be nice. If that happens, I'm totally picking it up.

I would suggest you make sure you've read (or re-read) Laurel Heights to reacquaint yourself with everything before starting Laurel Heights 2. Because it was WAY confusing, and I had to go back and re-read Laurel Heights to figure out what the hell was going on.

Laurel Heights 2 is basically two separate stories mashed together. Though, thankfully, at the core of both plots there is Detectives Scott Turner and Will Harrison (still together and still deeply in love).

The first storyline is a vicious serial killer known as "The Castrator" on the loose, torturing and killing gay men around White Plains.

The second storyline involves the gang from Laurel Heights and another killing in the neighborhood. Frankly, this whole side storyline seemed WAY off base to me. For a lot of reasons, not the least of which is , I mean, WTF?

There is a lot going on in this book…for me, there was too much going on. I would have preferred the two storylines to have been separated. I didn't like that Will and Scott were in an almost constant state of stress and angst almost the entire book.

I really liked Laurel Heights, but not so much this one. Though, I still recommend this to anyone who's read the first book. I love Will and Scott any way I can get them!

Great sequel to Laurel Heights. The boys are back and I wa so glad! The new partner threw me off for a minute but I was glad where his story line went. Will & Scott are now living together, happy, in love, and dealing with a serial killer targeting gay men and a new homicide in Laurel Heights. Intrigue, suspense, really hot sex, jealousy, murder, blood, creepy serial killer point of view, this one has it all!

DAMN! This book was as good, if not better than the first one. The suspense, the mystery. I love WIll and Scott and it was awesome to see them together again... getting into the darkest of situations and making my heart race! New and old villains make themselves known in this book and it was quite a dark and twisted treat. Lisa Worrall is a ballsy writer who will have you sweating, cursing and freaking the hell out! I loved it!

This mystery is quite upsetting with all the grusome murders of innocent peoples. I guess we don't know them, so it is more the idea of what happens to them, really. Anyway, it's urgh.

I liked how the Laurel Heights storyline played out. Direct enough, intermingling with the main plot.

Kelly was an interesting character and there were some fun moments.

Holy mind fuckery!! Lisa gets me every time. I "think" I know who it is, then I'm stumped again! its never who I think it is, though this time, it should have been a bit obvious, ah well.

"The Castrator" is quite twisted, and hearing his story at the end is quite heartbreaking. I actually felt bad for him, Jared Randall, not so much.

Totally worth the wait. Grisly murder and mayhem, hot smexy times with the boys..what more could a girl ask for? The excitement level starts out high and doesn't drop off for a second as Turner and Harrison try to figure out who is killing off gay men in their city. Loved it.
