Review from Jeannie Zelos book reviews
I was in the mood for a straightforward romance so started this one. Kristine is a beautiful, hardworking student, two lovely parents and close family all round, and financially secure due to a future trust fund. Falls in love with Dennis – but...she’s got a kind of boyfriend and Dennis has a girlfriend. She chats to her man, Mitch and sorts things, and thinks Dennis has done the same with Colby, and for a while its happy, happy, happy. Then she finds out Dennis hasn’t exactly sorted things, he’s going to marry Colby, something arranged a long time back by the families. and he thinks that he can’t abandon their plans, however much he loves her, family duty and all that. Of course she’s heartbroken, the calls between them get increasingly acrimonious, and Dennis says some harsh things, and that sorrow leads to the events that end with her facing some huge, life changing decisions.
Well, that’s the start and it sounds so promising but...for me there wasn’t really enough story. If this had been one of those short stories with a twist at the end, it would have been a good read – except of course I don’t read shorts as they just don’t have enough content. That's how I felt about this – its well written, but there’s so little real plot, just a series of what should Kristine do, and who she’ll end with questions and scenarios, that it just does nothing for me. I’m sorry about that but there it is. It just felt to me like we’re going over and over the same things, with some daily life bland scenes thrown in to lengthen the story. That’ how I feel but of course we’re back to that subjectivity and I can see this already has some huge fans. I guess if you like a story with meat and depth like me ( and I mean that in a nice way, I;m not being sarky) then this may not suit but if you want sweet and light with a sharp twist then this may well be right up your street.
Stars: Two, sorry but this just didn’t cut it for me.
