Atallan Beyond: Book Two of The Rhinehart Chronicles

Rate this book
Geoffrey can hardly believe what he’s survived so far in Atallan, a world far wilder and more chaotic than his imagination could ever conjure—and this is a guy who braves Algebra every day! His allies, the fiery Princess Kahlima and the scrappy stable boy Jereb, are counting on him, but as the stakes spiral higher with every step, doubt begins to creep in. Geoffrey begins to notice that the fantasy world he’s plunged into seems to follow all the familiar tropes, and while he can spot them, the real question how long can he keep up the act before it all unravels? With a rebellion brewing all around him against the dark wizard Nicolai and his nightmarish General, Geoffrey doesn’t have time to second-guess himself…and the hallways of his high school did not prepare him for this.

Up until about 60%, this series felt very middle grade / boy target audience. HOWEVER, it seems that there may be a little romance on the horizon! 😉

I really enjoyed this, and I am EVEN MORE curious about Tristan than I was in the 1st, and I didn't think that was possible.

Some of the twists (like escaping Tarattalus) were "predictable" but I think they were supposed to be to fit the tropes. Also, I'm a 30 yr old reading a book for middle schoolers... so that could be it too.

I'm really excited for the next one! I will for sure be getting a shelf trophy of this one to add to my indie collection! 🏆

This book series! For being a middle grade book, it is so much more than that. This continuation of this series was even better than the first book. You've got good action, good characters, amazing storyline, and you'll get sucked into your feelings. It has such a realistic quality to it in regards to how the main character handles all of these crazy experiences. I enjoyed it as an adult but my son who is nine also really enjoyed the story as well. We look forward to the next book!

Book two, Atallan Beyond, expands the world in such a vivid and beautiful way. All of the adventure and humor from book one are present throughout but the depth of character really shines bright in this second installment. Geoffrey and his crew are on a mission and the reader feels like they’re right along as well. The world around the main characters is enchanting and beautifully constructed! I personally LOVED everything about Tristan’s arc in Atallan Beyond. He is more than meets the eye. All in all if you enjoyed book 1, you will enjoy this as much or more. There is no drop off in the action and the writing is even more refined! Highly recommend and am on edge of my seat to see these characters again in a hopeful 3rd book

Atallan Beyond started with recap, but it was well executed, in my opinion. It felt focused on what I needed and nothing more, while launching quickly into the story style and craft jokes that I fell in love with.

This story continued everything I loved in the first but increased the stakes as a sequel should. The battle scenes were more numerous with more descriptions. These descriptions put this book solidly into the teen category for me rather than middle grade. However, I will also say that these descriptions are no worse than the majority of video games, and unlike video games, the description had a purpose in showing Geoffery the difference between fiction and truth.

This addition to the story built more of Geoffery's character change and the respect his comrades have for him. Pieces of the puzzle felt like they were falling into place, all while Seth CRUELLY left me with a frustrating NEED to read the next book.

From the incredible landscape of Tartatallas to the deadly fight against the Darkatans, Atallan Beyond does everything possible to not just meet the bar and standard that Atallan Rising created, but surpass it. This sequel grips your attention and doesn't let go and so much happens in so little time I cam hardly believe the author managed to congain it in just 280 pages.

This series is perfect for all ages, but particularly, this is the type of book I would have enjoyed reading growing up as a pre-teen and teenager. Yet, even as an adult, I can't help but say: I can't wait for Book 3!
