This was an absolute gem. It’s a very unassuming, outdated book but it’s full of important and relatively timeless information from a variety of perspectives. It gives me hope that people were building coalitions towards the support of the rainforest, but it’s also sad that there’s still a lot of work that hasn’t been done.

I’m of the school of thought that you can’t really separate economic principles from ecological ones, and these essays really corroborated that point of view. In one essay, an economist lays out the ways in which the western emphasis on objectivity has removed economics from local ecologies of the rainforest.

I plan on going through this at least one more time. Really good solid information that pushes you towards an urgent support for the rainforest.
