What would you give to have true contentment, joy without end, and lasting peace? Most of us would say, "Anything!" especially when we are dealing with the stormy pressures of life. In 10 Principles for Studying Your Bible, Dr. Charles Stanley provides practical insight into God's word by walking you through the highlights of his own personal Bible study. He explains, "You don't have to go through life wondering if the next storm will be the one that washes your life out to sea. God has an answer for your greatest need, but it is only found in the study of His Word." "God tells us that if we seek Him, we will find Him," writes Dr. Stanley. "And when we uncover His truth, we gain clear direction for our lives and circumstances." Those who begin this journey into understanding the Bible quickly realize His Word is a doorway to divine principles and life's greatest blessings.
Dr. Charles F. Stanley is the senior pastor of First Baptist Church Atlanta, founder of In Touch Ministries, and a New York Times best-selling author who has written more than fifty books, and has sold more than nine million copies. He demonstrates a keen awareness of people's needs and provides Christ-centered, biblically-based principles for everyday life.
Charles Frazier Stanley was born September 25, 1932, in the small town of Dry Fork, Virginia. The only child of Charley and Rebecca Stanley, Charles came into the world during a time when the entire nation felt the grip of the Great Depression. To make matters worse, just nine months later, his father Charley died at the young age of 29.
However, Charles refused to let the Great Depression or the difficulties of his life define him. Instead, like his father and grandfather before him, he clung to God’s Word and took up the mantle to preach the gospel to whoever would listen.
Dr. Stanley’s motivation is best represented by the truth found in Acts 20:24, “Life is worth nothing unless I use it for doing the work assigned me by the Lord Jesus—the work of telling others the Good News about God's mighty kindness and love.” This is because, as he says, “It is the Word of God and the work of God that changes people’s lives.”
Dr. Stanley’s teachings can be heard weekly at First Baptist Church Atlanta, daily on “In Touch with Dr. Charles Stanley” radio and television broadcasts on more than 2,800 stations around the world, on the Internet at intouch.org, through the In Touch Messenger, and in the monthly, award-winning In Touch magazine.
He could copy the phone book, and I'd wanna read it!
Anything Charles Stanley writes is something I want to read. Not so much about bible study, more about a biblical lifestyle and pointing us to the importance of prayer.
Pray, pray, pray, train yourself, meditate, anchor your life in God's riches, that's Scripture. Children of God open their Bibles, get on their knees in all humility, and worship their Savior. Reading Scripture is not a task, or a labour, it's a special privilege. In some country's people have to secret their Bible, if caught, jail, or execution. We here have the blessed opportunity to read, and meditate on Scripture freely, why not...... Talk to God, He will listen, no matter how minute, no matter how large, He can handle it, He will listen I assure you this. Charles F. Stanley is superb, and such an awe inspiring teacher. Scripture is the truth, and the truth will set you free.
This book helped me being contentment to my life and peace, my mind is so clear now than it ever was, I have a deeper understanding now. When reading take time to digest every chapter and don't forget to pray while you read and study.
Really great book that is rich in depth about the ten principles anyone who wants to start reading the Bible should consider and follow. I thought Charles F. Stanley gave great examples and Bible verses to go along with the ten principles he laid out.
It's a small book but it's so rich in depth and information about how best we can go about reading the Bible. Some things he points out are: how prayer goes hand in hand with the word of God, how we should and can meditate on the Word, and how much God loves each and every person he has chosen and has laid out a plan for our lives and future.
A must read for anyone, regardless of religion, on how one can best delve and start reading and allowing the fruit of the Spirit and his Word to come into our lives and make our lives more richer and fulfilling!
I highlighted so many passages in this book I felt I was using a paint brush. I will read this again and again. There is so much of value in reading this book, it calls to be read a second and third time and more after that. I felt like a fire hose was pouring information into my head. Thus I don't have anything specific for you. I'm going to begin reading this book again to attempt to summarize the most important points to paper. And read it again after that to ensure what I put on paper is really the points that if followed will lead to a closer relationship with Jesus and I will walk the path God is leading me towards to do His work on Earth.
I enjoy Charles Stanley's books. This is a good quick read on the importance of reading the Bible. I was looking for more practical ideas though. This book give you 10 general principles for reading your Bible. I would have liked to have seen 10 ways to improve what you are able to get out of reading God's word. Nice book that is an easy read on why reading your Bible is very important though.
I needed this so much. It was so encouraging, reminding me & teaching me how to know God's will for my life. I colored certain passages so I can take a quick look ever so often & be reminded how to let go & allow God control of my life. I sometimes get so caught up in living that I forget to allow God to lead me. Thank you Bro. Stanley for your faithfulness to God in writing this book. Thank You, God, for allowing me to be able to read it. To God be the glory!
"As you open the Bible, ask Him to reveal Himself to you and then to teach you more about His love every day. Your life will be changed, and you will be blessed far beyond what you can imagine because you have built your life on an unshakeable foundation- the Lord Jesus Christ." - Charles Stanley
I enjoyed this book, but think the title misled me. I was hoping to get practical ways to study the Bible. Good discussion and ideas, but missed the "ten principles."
