You can know with certainty! Many Christians live without absolute assurance that they are saved—men and women who are believers in Jesus Christ, have accepted him as their Lord and Savior, still don't know with certainty that they are going to heaven when they die. In Understanding Eternal Security , Dr. Charles Stanley invites readers to study the New Testament passages in Scripture that deal with eternal security, sin, and grace, so that you can see how God does indeed provide eternal security to those who believe in Jesus Christ. With over 1 million copies sold, the Charles F. Stanley Bible Study Series is a unique approach to Bible study, incorporating biblical truth, personal insights, emotional responses, and a call to action. Each study draws on Dr. Stanley's many years of teaching the guiding principles found in God's Word, showing how we can apply them in practical ways to every situation we face. Each of the ten lessons
Dr. Charles F. Stanley is the senior pastor of First Baptist Church Atlanta, founder of In Touch Ministries, and a New York Times best-selling author who has written more than fifty books, and has sold more than nine million copies. He demonstrates a keen awareness of people's needs and provides Christ-centered, biblically-based principles for everyday life.
Charles Frazier Stanley was born September 25, 1932, in the small town of Dry Fork, Virginia. The only child of Charley and Rebecca Stanley, Charles came into the world during a time when the entire nation felt the grip of the Great Depression. To make matters worse, just nine months later, his father Charley died at the young age of 29.
However, Charles refused to let the Great Depression or the difficulties of his life define him. Instead, like his father and grandfather before him, he clung to God’s Word and took up the mantle to preach the gospel to whoever would listen.
Dr. Stanley’s motivation is best represented by the truth found in Acts 20:24, “Life is worth nothing unless I use it for doing the work assigned me by the Lord Jesus—the work of telling others the Good News about God's mighty kindness and love.” This is because, as he says, “It is the Word of God and the work of God that changes people’s lives.”
Dr. Stanley’s teachings can be heard weekly at First Baptist Church Atlanta, daily on “In Touch with Dr. Charles Stanley” radio and television broadcasts on more than 2,800 stations around the world, on the Internet at intouch.org, through the In Touch Messenger, and in the monthly, award-winning In Touch magazine.
I read this Bible study as 10 day daily devotional. I have now read all of the Charles Stanley In Touch Study Series and have enjoyed each.
This on deals with eternal security once you have accepted Jesus as your Lord and Savior. Can you lose it? What if you still sin? Sin willingly? What about the unpardonable sin? Do you need to seek forgiveness on your death bed a hope you die before you sin again?
I have to admit I have wondered about some of the above questions from time to time. Stanley answers all your questions and points you to God's word to back up what he says.
Spoiler Alert: Once you accept Jesus as your Lord and Savior your eternity in heaven is guaranteed and you can't lose it. Now there are better rewards for those who do God's work on this Earth before going home to heaven, Not sure what those are. Guess I will have to wait and see.
I love Charles Stanley, but don’t quite love this book.
I think this is a great book to mitigate against the idea that we can “sin” our way out of salvation. But, the more weighty question is not can be “lose” salvation (as if accidentally and unknowable), but can we “leave” salvation.
The second view is not really addressed much. While many of the warning of apostasy are talked about, I don’t find his answers to be too compelling. Even worse, I don’t think his defense of verses supporting eternal security uniquely supported the view he was defending. Those same verses teach what many people who DONT hold to OSAS would also teach, only with the qualifier that these are the benefits of those IN CHRIST.
Dr. Stanley covers all verses and issues that people mention against “eternal security/salvation/life”. He shows that many of the verses that are used against this position or taken or used outside their original context.
