She survived the man that tried to silence her. She wasn’t looking for love… until he lit a fire she couldn’t ignore.
Talia knows what it means to survive. After years of hiding bruises and pretending everything was fine, one final betrayal pushes her to walk away for good. She’s not searching for romance—she’s chasing freedom, peace, and a chance to find herself again. Then she meets Damian. Sexy. Quietly intense. And armed with a slow, seductive smile that undoes her in all the right ways. He doesn’t just see her—he awakens her. With one touch, one smoldering kiss, he shows her what it feels like to want. To crave. To burn. Talia tries to resist him. But with every stolen moment, every heated night tangled in his sheets, she falls harder—for his strength, his tenderness, and the way he makes her feel like she finally belongs to herself. Just when she starts to believe in something real, a secret from Damian’s past threatens to destroy it all. Now Talia must stay hidden in the safety she’s built—or risk everything for a love that’s fierce, flawed, and breathtakingly real.
Raw, romantic, and impossible to put down, Look At Me is a gripping story of survival, self-discovery, and a seductive love that demands to be seen.
This book packs a punch. 👀 It tackles domestic violence, trauma, and co-dependency in a way that feels real, with plenty of angst along the way.
Talia? She’s quirky, bold, and a total scene-stealer — loved her energy. ✨
Where it fell a little short for me: I wanted more of a slow burn with Damian. Their romance sometimes felt rushed at the start, and the pacing was a bit uneven. A little shorter than I normally read, it actually wasn’t too short.
That said, it’s fast, spicy, and full of emotion. 🌶️🌶️🌶️
📚 Read if: you’re into angst, bold heroines, quick pacing, and spice. 🚫 Skip if: you prefer slower-burn romances with more layered pacing.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ UPDATE: I read Look at Me back in June and absolutely LOVED it. I’m finally finding time to start Look at Us, book two in the series, and I was planning to do a full reread of book one first. But then the audiobook came out and it was the perfect solution!
You guys… the audio is SO good. The narrators completely bring the story and characters to life and made the reread feel fresh and exciting all over again. If you’re thinking about revisiting book one—or experiencing it for the first time—I highly recommend listening to the audiobook. It’s fantastic.
This was a quick and spicy romance about a woman in an abusive relationship moving forward and finding a love that helps her heal. I enjoyed Talia a lot and felt like I got to know her as a character! I unfortunately did not feel connected to Damien at all, and felt that the lack of character development for him plus the number of spicy scenes made it seem like their relationship was only physical. I would’ve loved more dialogue between them so I could understand how Talia’s love for Damien could be strong enough to pull her out of an abusive cycle!
I loved the author’s note, and love the inspiration behind this story
Talia story was beautiful and realistic. Sometimes with these books you get stories that are so hard to relate to but hers was a very beautiful one. I am not going to lie Damian got me mad but he made up for it in the end. I also love that she had a relationship with the little girl after her and the father broke up.
Overall it was a heartwarming story and I can’t wait for part 2 to come out in audio!
I absolutely loved Look at Me—an easy 5 stars. Tania Dilworth is such a talented writer, and this story was so well written and detailed from start to finish. I especially loved the Austin setting—it added such a fun, vivid layer to the story, especially for me as a native Austinite. The characters felt real and relatable, and the spice was perfectly done. It’s one of those books that just pulls you in and stays with you after you finish.
When I first started this book, I honestly didn’t think I was going to like it much. I’m used to books with a strong plot, and this really doesn’t have one in the traditional sense. Instead, you’re just living Talia’s life with her — feeling her insecurities, overthinking, self-doubt, mistakes, and growth in real time. Once I realized that, it completely changed the way I viewed the story.
Talia is coming out of an emotionally abusive relationship (with one physical incident) and trying to rebuild herself. I actually really appreciated how realistic some of her behaviors felt, even when they frustrated me. Falling back into toxic patterns, making excuses for an ex, enabling behavior, overanalyzing everything — it was messy, but believable.
Now the romance… this is where I struggled. There’s a difference between attraction and full-blown insta-lust, and this crossed that line fast. After barely talking to Damian, she’s already acting deeply attached, and even after he ghosts her for weeks, she’s still obsessing over him nonstop. Then he keeps popping back in, flirting, disappearing again, and somehow the relationship still moves forward with almost no buildup. I just never fully bought into the emotional connection because it felt rushed from the start.
That being said, I did love the friendships in this book. Jenni was absolutely the definition of a girls girl, and honestly one of my favorite parts of the story. Also, as a born Texan, the constant Mexican food references were painfully relatable. When Talia said if she could eat one thing forever it would be tacos? Felt that in my soul 😂
I also appreciated Talia’s character growth by the end. Watching her realize she has to love herself before she can truly love someone else was probably the strongest part of the book for me.
And while Damian seems like a good guy so far… I read too many books to ever fully trust that 😂 I’m always waiting for the other shoe to drop.
The female narrator really brought her character to life and thankfully did the biggest majority of the narration with this book. The male narrator was a bit monotone and felt like he lacked emotion in his delivery of his lines and I believe that heavily impacted my view of this story. Maybe without the audio I would’ve enjoyed this a bit more and had a better opinion .
The story itself follows Talia who struggles to escape an abusive relationship and only stays because of her boyfriends daughter, only to get tangled up with a man named Damian who in my opinion isn’t any better than Edgar. Is he physically abusive no, but there is in my opinion mental and emotional abuse starting to get sprinkled in there. I can’t stop feeling like just as Edgar who loved to gaslight that Damian is doing the exact same thing to Talia in his own way.
I was so proud of her when she did get the courage to leave Edgar and started to find her happiness, but that’s where this story lost me. I wish the FMC would’ve taken more time to explore her new free life before diving head first immediately into a relationship with Damian and moved across the country to be with him, who she doesn’t even really know because of miscommunication with him purposefully leaving key details about his life out of conversations and the messages and the phone call with the “supposed ex girlfriend” He seemed to have an excuse for everything!
I don’t like him and that’s to be determined if my mind will change whenever I read book 2, without audio.
This book had a lot going on.. from domestic violence to co dependency. Talia was in a difficult situation. She finally found the courage to leave and start in a brand new life but her ex followed her.
He shows up and just moves in to her new place and she allows it. They were a toxic pair together and it was a toxic co dependent relationship between them. Enter Damian..
Damian felt a pull towards her the moment he met her but was in a relationship. Talia became immediately transfixed on him and couldn't stop thinking of him. When he moves to another state, he decides to invite her out but doesn't tell her his whole story about his current situation with the girlfriend. When Talia finds out, to me, she just let things slide too much and never wanted to find out how to live by herselt. She was very dependent on a man to make her happy instead of finding what made her happy outside of being in a relationship.
The story had a lot of promise but just felt jumbled in places. The only character I liked in the story was Jenni and she was a side character and Talia's friend. I just couldn’t connect with either main character.
I would like to start my review by stating I will be picking up book two and I have high expectations for character development.
We meet Talia, our FMC, after a very bad night. She is in no means an easy situation with the DV, Manipulation, and financial abuse Edgar has inflicted on her. And of course a child, blood or not, complicates everything…
However this is a very personal subject for me due to my childhood… Talia should have left as she did, but she didn’t have a mean bone in her body… Edgar still took advantage unfortunately…
Damian was hot and cold. But men have a hard outer shell 80% of the time. But his secrets or lies by omission hurt. Especially when your ex was a narcissist. The last 15% of the book I was definitely waiting for the ball to drop, for him to mess up.
He seems sweet, but hasn’t fully earned my trust. I’m excited to see what book two entails.
⭐️⭐️⭐️ 3/5 This wasn’t what I expected at first. I usually prefer storylines with events, and this one is much more character focused. You’re basically living through Talia’s thoughts, insecurities, and growth in real time. Once I invested thoughts to that, I wanted to continue. Talia is recovering from an emotionally abusive relationship, and I thought her healing process felt very realistic, if irritating at times. Her way of overthinking, making excuses, and slipping back into old habits were frustrating at times, but believable.
The romance with Damian I struggled to feel it. I struggled to believe the emotional depth, especially with the inconsistent behavior from Damian. His struggle to commit to her, but would have a child with her. Nope, not a stand up dude for me to connect with.
Talia’s girlfriend ships I loved. Jenni was a highlight and brought a lot of warmth to the story. I also enjoyed the humor and relatable moments sprinkled throughout. Overall, this is a more introspective, character-driven listen with solid growth by the end, even if the romance fell a bit flat for me. I’m not a fan of book 2 continuing the same couple love story, but will get to book 2 to see how the relationship unfolds. Just not my favorite read pick.
Just wrapped up this captivating book two days ago, and I couldn’t wait to share my thoughts! Life got a bit hectic, but here I am, ready to rave about it! Tania, the brilliant mind behind this romance, has truly outdone herself. The story is beautifully crafted, resonating deeply as it unfolds—a testament to how close it is to her heart.
It’s not just interesting; it’s also an effortless read that will keep you turning the pages. And if you're wondering if I’ll dive into book #2, the answer is a resounding YES! I can’t wait to see what Tania has in store for us next!
This book is an emotional powerhouse that delivers everything you want from a slow-burn romance and more. From the very beginning, Talia’s story pulls you in with raw honesty and vulnerability. Her journey from survival to self-discovery feels deeply real, and it’s impossible not to root for her every step of the way. The book has you wanting to turn to the next page immediately. What makes this story truly stand out is how beautifully it balances pain and healing. Overall, this is a gripping, heartfelt romance about second chances and finding strength after hardship. It’s messy, emotional, and deeply rewarding a story that stays with you long after the last page. ★★★★★
I went into this book expecting a lovey dovey romance but what I found was one of survival. This book is about so much more than love, it’s about finding and loving yourself before you find “the one”
The only thing that kept this from being a full 5-stars for me was the pacing in the final third. A secret from Damian’s past comes to light, and while it added tension, I felt it wrapped up a little too quickly compared to the slow, careful development of the rest of the book. I wanted just a few more chapters of them navigating that hurdle together!
Overall, this book is a raw and ultimately hopeful read. It does deal with domestic abuse but mentioned with care to not trigger.
Look at me is a mildly spicy romance that includes an abusive ex that seems stalker like/wont accept it’s over, friends to lovers that somewhat overlaps with the relationship ending, a potential cheating scandal and a long distance relationship that turns into them moving together. I felt that it was well written but I wish that there would’ve been more of a conclusion with Damian’s ex like there was with Talia and Edgar. I also hate books and movies that jump right to pregnancy in early relationships but I guess we will see how it goes in the second book.
I rated it a 3.5 but there are no half scores here🥲
This book sucked me in and wouldn’t let go. It was exactly what I needed to get back to reading as much as I did before my exams.
I loved Talia and Damian’s story. They’re love is truly inspiring.
I just had one small issue. There we’re parts that didn’t really get explained, like the struggle of getting a new apartment or when Talia got her bag stolen and in the next chapter she had it again (I really don’t understand how she hot it back so quickly).
Otherwise great book and I can’t wait to read the next one.
This is a good, easy read. I felt like I was hearing a friend's story and I wanted to keep getting to know her better. Like others said, I felt more disconnected from Damien, but that could be because I listened and didn't love the narration for him. I love the way the DV was handled. I also appreciated the spice being lightly spicy vs overly graphic. I definitely want to know what happens in their story next, but IDK that I'd say he's Mr. Right vs Mr. Right for Right Now. But I do look forward to reading what's next! I also enjoy the author's social media, in case that's useful for anyone.
I finished this book last night and I’m so glad I picked it up.
It’s not my usual genre, but it completely pulled me in. The story felt incredibly real and authentic, and knowing it’s partially based on the author’s own experiences made it even more impactful. It had just the right amount of drama to keep me hooked the entire time.
I’ll definitely be starting the next book ASAP.
Highly recommend if you love contemporary romance that feels raw, emotional, and genuine.
Super sweet story between two different people in two seperate states who happen to meet at a restaurant. The FMC shows great growth during the story and learns to push past the fear. I love how she is willing to give things a chance and is able to examine her feelings. The MMC is very sweet - so sweet that I’m waiting for the other shoe to drop. I don’t know if that will happen - it could just be my insecurities speaking. Overall, a sweet read that has me wanting to know what happens next.
This was an enjoyable read. I’m glad there’s a second book because I wanted more. It took me a minute to like the MMC but the FMC was perfect. I listened to the audiobook and the narrator they picked for her made it even better. I felt like Talia was a real person who I knew and she made this book for me. The romance had me giggling and kicking my feet too!! This is a quick easy read which is perfect for people who don’t like long romances.
A Five-Star fast and wonderful read!!! Loved this book from the first chapter and was really surprised to learn at the end of the book that this was based on her true story. Don’t want to spoil this book for anyone, but definitely an eye opener for me and am now going to be seeking my different life as I “deserve it”!!! Going straight into book 2 now!!!
I really enjoyed this book. This author had me hooked from the very first page. I read it in one sitting. I couldn't put it down. Definitely check trigger warnings, it gets deep, but it's a source of knowledge that could someone, there is places to call for help listed in the back of the book
My reaction to this book was as follows: Ew Edgar, yay she left, oooo hello Damian, effing Edgar, yay for new love, effing Damien, yay love again, to something is very suspicious and I don't trust this guy and then it just ended LOL I wasn't ready for it to end! I need to know if my intuition is correct!!! It was great though!
While I enjoyed the writing style. I kinda wish we had more personal growth with Talia before she got together with Damian. I would’ve loved to see her thriving alone, going to therapy. Work on herself after her relationship with Edgar.
With the book being so short I get why the time line jumps a lot. I just wish we saw more of Talia and Damian falling in love.
Writing and publishing a book is such an amazing accomplishment! I really admire the creativity and heart that went into this story, and I’m glad I got the chance to read it. The next book comes out in October so I look forward to finishing their story!
I like that she stayed strong and left an abusive relationship. She went on to meet someone who shared her interests and she was happy with. I listened to the audiobook. It had a female and male voice. Really brought it to life.
Slow burn romance of a woman who leaves an abusive relationship and finds love again. I am not a huge fan of the MMC because I simply do not trust him. Looking forward to see if my view of him changes in book two!
Absolutely loved Thalia and Damian and hated Edgar! I love how Thalia learned to love herself and do what made her happy! This book had me hooked, devoured it in just a few hours and instantly downloaded book 2!
This book was well worth the read for me. The author wrote the characters well and the story was emotional. A women finding love after a tough relationship:) There was spice too just enough peppered in for me
