He was her first love. She was the one who got away. Ten years ago, Lily Jones vanished without a word—leaving behind a broken heart and a boy who never truly healed. Now she’s back. In the same small town. Holding the same secret she left with.
Nash Miller never expected to see her again. He’s a single dad now who, with the help of his two brothers, has been raising his daughter on a quiet ranch with more ghosts than fences. He doesn’t talk about the past. He doesn’t forgive easily. But one look at Lily, and all the years in between vanish like dust on the breeze.
The tension between them is thick with everything the silence, the heartbreak, the love that never really left. But some truths are harder to bury than others… and some chances don’t come twice.
Set against the lavender fields and weathered porches of Silver Peaks, The Lilac River is a slow burn story of second chances, quiet redemption, and a love that refuses to die.
Some things fall apart. Some things find their way home. And some hearts never stop hoping.
I live in Cheshire with my husband, two dogs and mum in law and write romantic humour and contemporary romance. My first two books, Guess Who I Pulled Last Night? and No Bra Required both stayed at number 1 on the Amazon Humour list for 3 & 4 weeks respectively. My ambitions of becoming a writer started at the age of 10 when I started writing poetry at school, and was given the honour of reading one out to the rest of my year group (an horrific experience that I will never forget). Thankfully I have a wide variety of strange and wonderful people in my life, otherwise I'd be stuck on what to write about! I am currently talking to family and friends, finding out their innermost secrets in readiness for my next book.
My books are romances that come with a little more than vanilla sexy times, sometimes a few tears, lots of hot men and feisty women, but ultimately they'll make you smile.

ARC review - 3.5 ⭐️ I really enjoyed this! It definitely ticked the boxes for a small town cowboy romance, I loved the characters, the daughter was written so well, it had short chapters, good banter between the brothers and a second chance romance with just the right amount of spice, I thought it was great!
3 ⭐️ Thank you Tales & Teacups for this ARC! (@talesandteacupspr) I’m always down for a cowboy / small town romance & this was perfect for it ! Unfortunately, I just did not really connect with either of the main characters in this. I wish we got to see more of their personalities (especially Lily’s) outside of just their relationship with one another.
I did love their relationship together though & of course Bertie! It was definitely an easy read and I loved all of the side characters. I think I will continue with the series once it comes out!
The Lilac River is an unforgettable second chance romance that tugs at the heart in all the best ways. Nash and Lily’s story is steeped in yearning, heartbreak, and the kind of redemptive love that makes your chest ache. I was completely swept away by the emotion, the setting, and the beautifully written bond between a single dad and the high school sweetheart he never stopped loving. I couldn’t put it down
I received this book as an ARC and really enjoyed it! This book hit all the right spots, with a small town, single dad, second chance romance!
I loved the banter between the brothers, and their relationship with Lily was so sweet as well, and I would love to have the Miller Brothers in my family! And can’t forget about Bertie who just stole my heart!
The short chapters work really well to keep you hooked and just keep reading, since I started it I was barely able to put it down! And loved the inclusion of a song for each chapter which really helps to set the mood.
The romance was really sweet, with the perfect amount of spice and it was also great to see some flashbacks incorporated in to see where the story all began. I also loved the slight mystery aspect of why Lily left in the first place and as we slowly learn more throughout the book!
Overall thoroughly enjoyed this book and cannot wait to return back to Silver Peaks to read about the rest of the Miller brothers!
Thank you so much to @talesandteacupspr and @nikkiashtonauthor for this ARC!
I received an ARC of this book because I'm amazing and Nikki loves me!
this book has had me hooked for the last few days. It isn't often these days I find a book that is truly unique and unlike any of the current trends in the book world. but Nikki has smashed it with this one.
The characters were amazing, with such unique personalities, and the bonds of the brothers were something magical.
this second chance did not happen easily, both Nash and lily fought their feelings for one another. but when they finally came back together, *phew* it was getting hot on the pages!
overall it was a well written, all encompassing romance book. Bringing back the classic second chance, childhood lovers tropes with a big twisty finish! freaking LOVED it!
Thank you to Tales and Teacups PR for the advanced copy of The Lilac River and the opportunity to dive into this incredibly emotionally layered romance!
Set against the backdrop of a small town, this story weaves together themes of family, love, and justice with a touch of suspense. I was especially drawn to the legal elements and the deep emotional undercurrents that emerged as the story progressed. As a reader who loves when legal drama meets romance, The Lilac River delivered on both fronts.
Nash’s character was a standout. His quiet yearning and emotional complexity were beautifully portrayed and added depth to the narrative. While the first half of the book felt somewhat fast-paced and at times lacked character development, the second half truly found its rhythm. The emotional stakes rose, and the relationships became more compelling, making for a satisfying and engaging read.
The bond between the brothers was one of the novel’s strongest elements. It was genuine, moving, and a grounding force throughout the story. I’m already looking forward to diving into Wilder and Gunner’s stories and continuing the journey with this cast of characters.
ARC READ REVIEW- 4⭐️ Really enjoyed reading this, the characters were really good, with such strong bonds between them. I also like how Nikki paired each chapter with a song that matched the content, this added to my experience of reading the book.
Lily and Nash both resisted their feelings and when they gave in, wow, such a strong connection and made up for a lot of lost time 😉
The book was well written and an enjoyable romance read. Now added a cowboy to the growing list of book boyfriends 🫣
TROPES: • Small Town • Single Dad • Slow Burn • Love that never really left • Second Chance
Knowing that there are still books to come in this series is exciting, I can’t wait to continue reading.
Overall, this was such a cute and easy read, would recommend!
I received this as an ARC and I am so so happy I did! This was such a lovely small town romance and I feel so attached to Nash and Lily! I absolutely loved this story and the writing style. I 100% recommend if you love small town/cowboy romances!
Big thank you to talesandteacupsPR for sending me this ARC <3
“Lilac. She was right. That was her. Not just the color. The feeling. Soft. Unexpected. Lingered long after it passed.”
🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟
Thank you talesandteacupspr and Nikki for the E-ARC!
I knew this book would wreck me from the start and it did! A second chance, small town romance filled with so much heartache and hidden trauma which was evident from every encounter. I loved that there were flashbacks from the past and how everything - past and present - linked to the lavender fields where they fell in love. I especially loved the inside tradition of the sunrise. It really tied everything together in a perfect lilac bow.
“It smelled like home, too. Earth and woodsmoke, a faint trace of lavender on the morning breeze. Always the lavender.”
“…for a split second, I wasn’t in the kitchen anymore. I was seventeen again, holding her hand in the lavender fields, swearing I’d never let her go.”
Lily reluctantly returns to her hometown to help her mom and grandma after disappearing for a decade, where she has to face her past. Nash, a single dad, has remained on the family ranch all those years and is determined to find out the truth of why she left. High school sweethearts turned strangers, they have to navigate their feelings for each other whilst dealing with a betrayal, hidden secrets and scandal. Every scene with them together is gut wrenching and I truly felt the hurt from each character. The underlying tension kept me on my toes, just BEGGING for it to explode. Nash is a gentle soul who loves wholeheartedly and honestly every girl deserves that kind of love! The intensity of it had me crying, kicking my feet giggling, screaming, heart warmed and I wouldn’t have had it any other way. Even if I didn’t believe in soulmates before I definitely would now!
"Prepare yourself, Lila. I’m gonna blow your mind in our lilac river."
“She filled my heart with warmth and joy and was proof that unconditional love didn’t just come from blood it came from choice, from moments, from hearts shared.”
I also fell in love with all the different relationships; Nash and his daughter, Nash and his brothers, Lily, her mom and grandma. The brothers and Bertie (the daughter) were HILARIOUS and crazy, illustrating a strong family connection based on unconditional love. Same with Lily, her Mom and Grandma who together were equally as sassy and funny. Even Lily and Bertie warmed my heart. Bertie is truly a special, special girl and was the heart of this book. I can’t wait to read about the other brothers!
“ “Does that mean you like Miss. Gray, Daddy?” “You bet he does,” Wilder muttered. “Back to the kitchen, Wild,” Nash ordered, not missing a beat. “And you,” he added to Bertie, “go pour the drinks.” Bertie saluted and took off down the hall.”
If you’re looking for a heart warming, small town romance this is for you! Tropes include: ~ Second-chance romance ~ Cowboy romance ~ Single parent ~ First love / love at first sight ~ He falls first - again
I recieved this as an ARC and I am so greatful. Nikki Ashton was a new author to me and I am now wanting to go back and read her other work. I really enjoyed her writing style and found it so easy to get in to.
This book made me feel all the warm and cosy feelings you want from a small town romance. I actually loved it and didn't want to put it down. It follows Nash and his high school sweetheart Lily who after ten years apart are brought back together in unlikely ways. The love between these two is just stunning.
I liked the fact that the chapters are nice and short as I always find it easier to binge read as I want to keep going and before you know it your half way into the book in just over an hour! (I devoured this I enjoyed it so much) I also liked the fact that Nikki had picked songs and they were at the begining of each chapter. I prefer to read in silence but I can imagine it only adds to the experience of the book.
It has all the best tropes (in my opinion) - Single Dad - Small town - Second chance - It's always been you - A love that never left/ its always been you.
It is the first book in the Silver Peaks series and I can not wait to read the rest. Knowing the next two books will follow Nash's brothers as well makes me even more excited. Overall I found it to be such a cute easy read, I would highly recommend this book.
Thank you Tales and Teacups for the ARC on this delightful book.
Read this book as an ARC copy any I’m so glad I put my name down for this.
First of all I want to say I was adamant the author lived in America. The feel of the book felt right and I totally pictured it! I then learn that she lives probably about 15 mins drive away from me! Small world!
Loved the characters they were so believable and relatable and funny. I felt all the emotions they did like it was happening.
Storyline was great really had you rooting for the right people, loved the family dynamic and I would love to read more especially if the books involve the brothers 😍😍
One thing I really enjoyed about this book was that every chapter has a song at the start, I decided when I started reading that I would listen to the song while I read that chapter (which could be why I finished in a day and a half) I always have music on while I read so it really worked. I will link the Spotify playlist too!
Nikki Ashton brings a whole new side of herself to life with the first in this series. A new voice, a new style, and a new town full of loveable characters you can’t help but want the best for.
“The saddest thing,” I murmured, forehead resting against hers, “is that we lost each other for nothing.”
“You’re already living in the wreckage. It’s time to start tearing down the ruins and building something new.”
This book was scattered with one liners and metaphors that had you seeing the town and the scenery so clearly, and that is what any reader wants when picking up a new book. Lily is returning to Silver Peaks, despite being run out of town by old ghosts she struggles to come face to face with, and Nash is stuck in the past, pining for what once was, despite the little girl in his life. All which makes for a fantastic slow build up to an angst-ridden, fantastically sweet, wholesome, romantic story.
Bertie, however, was by far the shining star. I can’t wait to see what comes next in the Silver Peaks series. Well done, Nikki, on this fabulous new adventure!
Nikki Ashton's 'The Lilac River' is a fantastic second-chance romance that masterfully blends emotional emotion with a dash of intrigue. Ten years have passed since Lily vanished, leaving Nash, her first heartthrob, broken. She has now come back to their little town, bearing a secret to herself, as Nash remains a single father raising his daughter, Bertie, on a ranch.
The romance is more emotionally rich than the pain of lost love, the complexities of forgiveness, and the nourishing power of hope. Readers will be instantly drawn by Nash and Lily's intense chemistry and their naked hunger for one another. Lively little Bertie, with her spunky nature, is a joy, bringing warmth and humor.
Apart from the romance, there is also a suspense that grips the reader as the reason for Lily's disappearance slowly reveals itself. The author's writing is engrossing, spinning a story that is so real and very emotional, too. 'The Lilac River' is an emotional story of redemption, found family, and having faith that some loves are meant to bloom again. Five stars for those who enjoy small-town romance with a current of suspense.
3.5⭐️ I really enjoyed this one ! I love small town romances and this one really hit the spot! I think my favourite part was the family dynamics in this one ! I loved Nash’s relationship with both his daughter and his brothers it honestly really helped with the storyline and feeling integrated into the family! + Bertie was ADORABLE I can’t lie Nash’s relationship with his daughter was so special it melted my heart ! I also loved Lily’s relationship with her mum and grandma as well as with Bertie ! I think the family dynamics were so well done and felt so real i loved it! I do feel like I wasn’t as Invested in both Nash and lily together as much as I hoped with some of their reactions and reasonings being a little annoying at points but that’s just me being picky !! but I will definetly be reading the rest of the series ! Thank you netgalley and bubble books ltd for the e-copy in exchange for a honest review !
What an incredible story. This book is what small town romance is all about. Lily and Nash were absolutely made for each other and I loved reading their scaond chance story. This book brought all of the feels, I laughed I felt heartbreak and I swooned and kicked my legs, it has it all.
Lily is such a relatable character and Nash what a sweetheart. That man is all of my cowboy fantasies rolled into one. he is the epitome of a cinnamon roll cowboy.
I love the world building for this series and I can't wait for the rest of the Miller boys to get their story.
Bertie is such a good character she had me laughing through out the book and Also Lilys grandma she is the kind of grandma we all want in out life's. I would have loved to see her and Bertie together! I bet they would cause some trouble.
if you love small town, second chance romance with relatable characters and swoon worthy cowboys this is the book for you.
Thank you Tales and Teacups for letting me read this book before publication.
And what a book it was. Lily and Nash meet each other in History class 10 years ago, feeling an instant connection, a pull, that we all hope for in life. But when Lily vanishes, Nash is instantly lost, and heartbroken. No note, no reasoning.
But when Lily comes back to Silver Peaks ten years later, with a different surname, scared of meeting the man she fell in love with all those years ago, things take a turn.
Strangers to lovers, to strangers to lovers. I LOVED this book SO SO SO much. The definition of an impossible book to put down. I can’t wait to read about Wilder and Gunner’s stories 🥺
4.5 ⭐️ This was a gorgeous read. I was graciously sent an ARC and I devoured it in 24 hours. This was funny and emotional. I felt like I was right there with the characters, experiencing their heartbreak with them. The farm setting is so picturesque and the side characters are brilliant. I’m keen to read the next book in the series.
This heartwarming story had me sniffling, giggling, and kicking my feet. I found Lily to be relatable and as someone who spends a lot of time with seniors I just loved the grandmas 😂 The romance was so cute and I just loved the different POVs, the banter, and of course, the cowboys! This is definitely a book I’d recommend and I’m definitely excited for the next book🔥
Thank you @talesandteacupspr and @nikkiashtonauthor for this ARC copy! This small town cowboy romance was EXACTLY what I needed in my life. It had #slowburn #secondchanceromance #hefallsfirst
Do yourself a favor and add this to your list to buy on June 30th when it’s released on Amazon 💜
Received this ARC through Tales & Teacups. I really enjoyed diving into the town of Silver Peaks! While romance isn’t my main genre of choice, something about a modern rancher/cowboy romance always grabs me. Nash’s devotion to his daughter Bertie is heartwarming, the connection between Nash & Lily is incredibly strong, and the bond between the Miller brothers is unbreakable, adorable, infuriating, & beautiful. I found myself laughing often & riding the rollercoaster along with the characters. While some of the plot was a bit predictable (as this genre tends to be) the character’s Ashton has created are lovable enough to look past that. I can’t wait to see what she has in store for Gunner & Wilder!
Thank you to Nikki Ashton for the chance to ARC read The Lilac River. This was a really cute, fun, second chance, hometown, contemporary romance. I enjoyed the characters, especially Bertie! 😆 She was a hoot! The brothers have a bit of growing up to do, but I have a feeling we’ll get that in their books. The pacing was well done, plot was interesting, and the chemistry between Nash and Lily was hot. The “instant” best friend was fun too. This struck me as similar to Claire Kingsley’s work, so if you’re a fan of her, check this one out!
Lily suddenly leaves town without saying goodbye to anyone, just leaving a note for her mum. 10 years later and she's back to stay. It's not long before she's back in the arms of her ex, single dad Nash.
I really enjoyed this small town, second chance romance. I loved both MCs, his little girl was just the sweetest, and the love she has for the FMC is adorable. Throw in some brotherly banter and family drama and this was a really good read I highly recommend.
I will definitely be reading the other 2 books in the trilogy once they are released.
Thank you NetGalley, the publisher & the author for the eARC
Holy Moly this book worked itself into my heart! This was such a raw and emotional second chance romance! I don't normally love the second chance trope, however this mixed with the single Dad trope is freaking gold! Nikki Ashton did an amazing job writing these characters with emotions so real you can feel it. I thought the characters were complex and deep and were easy to get invested in. The plot was smooth and I enjoyed the pacing! Even the side characters were well written and I can't wait to read more about the brothers!
The Lilac River really has everything you want in a small town romance. The characters are lovable and their personalities leapt off the page. There was drama, well written spice, humor, and even a little bit of a mystery to uncover.
I really enjoyed Nikki Ashton’s writing style. The setting was lush, the dialogue had an easy natural flow with great banter and the flashbacks were the sweetest romance scenes between Nash and Lily. Ashton did an amazing job at really bringing each scene to life, like when Nash and Lily are making love in the lavender field. It was sweet with just a tiny hint of spice.
I loved all the characters! The dynamic between the three brothers was entertaining and felt so lifelike. The way that they talked to each other felt authentic to how you’d expect three cowboy bachelors to talk to one another. Bertie, Nash’s 8 year old daughter was the princess of the household and she was full of personality. Lily’s grandma was foul mouthed and hilarious. I hope she makes appearances in the rest of the series because she was definitely my favorite of the bunch. I think Lily might have been my least favorite. Her character started out good in the beginning of the book. The way she would interact with her mom and grandma felt multidimensional. Her mannerisms and dialogue made her standout with the rest of the characters but once her and Nash started interacting again her character fell very flat for me. Also, she became really annoying. Nash’s character was lifelike and full of emotion and she would just whisper short answers. It started to get old after a while.
The one only reason I lowered the rating was because it started to drag out and become repetitive towards the middle of the book. Nash would ask why she left and she would shut him out over and over again… it’s like, ok, we get it, but now it’s time to make the story progress and move on. I have high hopes that the next two books are going to be even better. I cannot wait to read Cassidy and Gunner’s story next!
My Initial Thoughts I loved this the second I started reading. You can feel the tension between Lily and Nash straight away and you completely feel the Miller brother’s family dynamic that I adored. Bertie is such a funny sassy young lady and always had me giggling. I knew from just a quarter of the way in that I was going to fall in love with this series. Plot The plot was everything! The tension and dynamics of Lily and Nash finding their way back to each other, then all the secrets coming to the surface after 10 years. But also finding out more about the Miller brothers underlying problems and how Nash became a single father. All that wrapped up with the sprinkle of spice, made this the most beautiful, funny, well thought out plot. Characters The characters were amazing and the only one I didn’t like was the Miller boys father. Lily is the most gentlest of teachers and you can feel how she pines for Nash the second she arrives back in Silver Peaks. Nash is the hunky, grumpy cowboy who absolutely has put me into my cowboy era! I loved Wilder’s joking attitude as he was always making me giggle, especially with his antics and Bertie clearly gets them from her uncle! Then Gunner who also seems the joking type but as a family they pull together and are always positive and giggling. Recommend To everyone that needs a cowboy series, you will adore this one! Favourite Quote “Uncle Wilder says your fun sacks will dry up if you don’t have a playdate soon.” Favourite Chapter/s My favourite chapters were 11, 21, 30, 31 and 46. Summed up in one sentence A single day who’s a grumpy cowboy.. need I say any more? Overall Wrap up I am obsessed, like truly obsessed. The characters, the setting and the way the dynamics of the family work. One thing I loved and found truly unique is how the title links into the story, so special. I honestly couldn’t put it down once I started. The playlist with a song for every chapter, just wow and lets not forget the beautiful chapter pages and end pages in the physical copy because they are beautiful! Stars & Spice – 4.25 stars and 2 chilli peppers.

Book: The Lilac River Author: Nikki Ashton Rating: 5 Stars
This is book #1 of the Silver Peaks series.
Lilly - Had no choice but to up and leave her life 10 years ago, she left her family and her one true love behind. She's now back 10 years later in the same town she left all those years ago. Can she rekindle her childhood love after breaking his heart when she left with no explanation.
Nash - Living on a ranch with his two brothers and his daughter, still heartbroken and pining over his childhood sweetheart, 10 years have passed, and rumour has it Lilly is back in town. Will Nash get the answers he's wanted for the past 10 years, or will he fall even deeper for the girl who ran away?
This is a second chance, small town cowboy romance novel, one that pulled me in, hook line and sinker. The way this author brought her characters alive, living on a lilac ranch, childhood sweethearts, the one that got away, loving brothers, a cute little daughter, is amazing! You could feel every emotion that went through this book.
This is a beautifully written small town, second chance cowboy romance novel. One where you'll fall in love with not one, not two but three Miller brothers. This book got me hooked from the start, and I ate this book up!
This book has the right amount of spice in!
I can't wait to dive back into Silver Peaks for the other two brothers stories.
If you are looking for a new small town, second chance cowboy romance novel, then this book is for you! One of 2025s favourite cowboy romance novels I've read so far.
Thank you for the opportunity to read The Lilac River as an ARC!
I really enjoyed the foundation of this book. I think it had really good bones. The tropes are every romance readers dreams: second chance romance, (almost) enemies to lovers, small town, cowboys, and a single father.
Nash and Lily are high school sweethearts but when Lily vanishes to a new town with no explanations she leaves Nash alone and heartbroken. But now, she’s back in town willing herself to avoid Nash at all costs.
I think the way the characters spoke seemed well beyond their years. Some things they said felt like it was coming from a much older person and occasionally it took me out of the scene.
MILD SPOILER: I think the twists/reason Lily left was mentioned too early in the book. I think it would have been more heartbreaking and impactful if it had been introduced later. Also Nash’s Dad wanted it kept a secret and then he goes and tells Nash? And then it was a big surprise later on for Nash when Lily talks about it? That whole part seemed confusing and weird.
Having said all this, this is a good review, I really did enjoy this book. The romance was cute, Lily and Bertie’s relationship was cute and Nash’s love for Lily was adorable.
I’d definitely enjoy reading more Nikki Ashton books in the future and I look forward to the rest of this series.

Set in Silver Peaks, against a backdrop of lavender fields, Nash is running the family ranch, living with the heartbreak of losing the love of his life ten years earlier. Nash has never been able to let Lily go, their teenage love so all consuming, and he still has no idea why she left so abruptly. When Lily suddenly returns to town, its clear that she feels the same. Both carry the burden of the devastating heartbreak of losing each other, but struggle to find a way forwards.
"I had braced myself for eighteen-year old Nash. Lanky, full of hope. The boy who kissed me like I was a prayer. But I hadn't braced for this Nash. The man. The storm. Still heartbreakingly beautiful. But changed."
Honestly, this book was beautiful. The setting, the characters, the plot, I loved it all. And best of all no third act break up! The tension simmering between Nash and Lily throughout was perfect, Gunner & Wilder were fantastic (I cant wait to see how their characters develop in their books) and Bertie was absolutely brilliantly written and just hilarious.
I cant wait to read the rest of this series when they are released later in the year, and I think I need to go and have a look at the authors previous titles, because I need more of this!!
Thanks to Bubble Books and Netgally for providing me with an ARC copy to review.
Firstly, thank you to Tales & Teacups and Nikki Ashton for this ARC
The Lilac River is an unforgettable second chance romance that surpasses all others I’ve read. Nash and Lily’s story tugged at my heartstrings, evoking a range of emotions from yearning and longing to pain and love, all while leaving me with a sense of frustration due to the ten years lost without explanation from Lily. This book truly wrecked me in the best way possible. If you’re seeking a book that will leave you with a flood of emotions, then this is the one for you.
Their second chance didn’t come easily, but they never gave up on each other and fought for their love. Despite the pain and tears, their love endured, and I shed happy tears as I realized how beautiful their love truly is. It serves as a powerful reminder to never give up on the one you deeply love.
Another unique touch in this book is the song for each chapter, it’s a lovely and thoughtful detail that enhances the overall reading experience. The Lilac River has become my favorite read of the year, and I eagerly anticipate the rest of the books in the series.
