She was my son’s ex. Too young. Too sweet. Off-limits.
But the night she walked into that bar, I stopped caring. I’m Everett Jones—billionaire, ruthless, forty-five.
She’s half my age and everything I shouldn’t want.
But I had her. Claimed her. Then I found out the truth.
She used to belong to him. Now I can’t let her go.
Not when he’s stalking her. Not when she finally feels safe in my arms.
He broke her. I’ll end him.
Blood or not. Because I’d shatter my own flesh and blood...
To protect the only woman I’ll ever love.
Reader This steamy, emotional age gap romance features a cinnamon roll billionaire, a social worker with a backbone of steel, healing after abuse, secret paternity drama, workplace rescue, gala glow-up, and one unforgettable love that defies the odds. He was her ex’s father—but he turned out to be her forever. HEA guaranteed.
I’m disappointed with this book. For me, the story starts off well. I liked the chemistry between Melanie & Everette but Mel didn’t really take her own advice in standing up without regrets against her ex. I can’t believe her as a social worker whom can’t do what she advises others to do for a living. The fact that she always was shaking every time her ex communicated with her became ridiculous, I mean every time! When she was being followed, instead of calling 911 immediately, she detours from her route to her boyfriend’s to unknown domain. That seems silly. Then she speeds up, that doesn’t make sense to me & for her to tell her boyfriend he needs to fix the problem first with her ex BEFORE she considers continuing in a relationship is pathetic.
Mel mentioned several times she didn’t want anyone to fight her battles yet that’s exactly what she wanted. Everette’s idea to once again pay off his son for him to move so he & Mel wouldn’t have to deal with him was selfish. Nathaniel never had to suffer the consequences of his actions. He never learned anything. As always, Nathaniel took his father’s money/check then stated he didn’t need his father. Now Nathaniel can go & terrorize & threaten someone else & that’s scary. It seemed like as long as they didn’t have to deal with him that was ok. Which is disappointing especially for someone who is fighting to help women of domestic abuse. What if years later, Nathaniel returns? Or becomes jealous of their children & harms them. Letting him be free with half a mil plus a trust fund does not sit well with me.
Not once did Mel contribute to any of Everette’s desires or goals. He always followed & threw money at whatever she wanted for her ideas. There were many inconsistencies in the story. What happened to the security he was to get her? Why didn’t he provide cameras at her home & more at her work? Or a guard /driver? On pgs 183-184, describes her boyfriends pants coming off yet the next paragraph describes her removing the belt & removing his pants & underwear that was supposedly already removed. Huh? Why wait 3 years to become engaged? Now he’s 48 & looking to start over with children. Overall I was disappointed with how this story was written yet I appreciate the grammar was good.

I really really enjoyed this book. I've never had to deal with domestic violence in my life. I can only imagine the horror that women and children must go through. With that being said, I loved how this author duo approached it with Melanie, Everett, and Nathaniel. From the synopsis to the last period, I was totally immersed in this book.
Melanie and Everett met at Murphy's bar and immediately connected. Everett is a billionaire who owns a tech company. Melanie is a social worker who helps women and children who are victims of DV find a new safe start in life. But unbeknownst to both of them, they're connected to each other in a way they never thought possible. When the truth is discovered, it's devastating to both of them. Nathaniel, Melanie's ex is increasingly becoming a problem for her. Everett and Melanie's story had this reader on the edge of her power wheelchair ♿️. The drama that unfolded had me in my feelings. I was sad for the decision Everett had to make in regards to Nathaniel. I felt angry at how Nathaniel behaved. As a grown man, he should've known better. He was spoiled and just plain evil, in my opinion. But overall, I was elated that Everett and Melanie got their HEA after all the drama they went through with Nathaniel. The ending was so well written and beautiful. It's definitely a great read.
The connection between Melanie and Everett was instant, and it was fun to read. She's been hurt, and he patiently shows her that all men aren't like that. I loved that about him. Melanie reclaimed her power and self esteem back. Her job helping others and having the support herself had a lot to do with that. Their chemistry burned through the pages as well. The interesting thing to the story is the desperate and deliberate acts his son, Nathaniel does. It was 100% wrong and I am not condoning this behavior at all, but I can tell he's truly hurting. Not just from his breakup with Melanie, but the betrayal, lack of Everett's presence in his life, the death of his mom, and probably other issues. Honestly, I think he should've faced the consequences of his actions. Maybe this would've helped him begin to face his demons and start healing. Melanie and Everett trying to navigate his actions made them stronger and better as individuals and a couple. Overall, this was a good read I'd recommend.
Everett Jones, CEO of Pioneer Tech Solutions, did not expect to meet the love of his life in Murphy's Bar. He just felt a connection when he saw Melanie Hawkins, a social worker, out with her girlfriends, who forced her to come out with them. Being the successful businessman he is, he never failed to get what he wanted, but Melanie made him feel alive again. The more they talked, he came to realize who broke her heart. He was seeking the right time to reveal to her who he was, but he waited too long. Melanie freaked out, especially when her ex started stalking her and threatening Everett. With her life in danger, she pulled away from Everett. Both Everett and Melanie felt out of sorts without each other. Everett vowed to get Nathaniel under control.
Everett felt as though he was unsuccessful as a father to Nathaniel, but he would not allow his son to dictate who he would love. Melanie gave him a reason to live outside of business and work. He wanted to live that life with her. He was a different man now and was ready for his do-over with Melanie. Now that Nathaniel was out of the way, they both could take a collective deep breath and go about the business of their HEA.
Things work the way they are meant to even when age seems to be the issue. Melanie is sweet and has been through some hurts, trust doesn’t come easy for her nor does love for that matter, and she isn’t looking for love but sometimes when you aren’t looking it finds you. Everett sexy as all get out older man, patient man with most, but he is lonely and goes out one evening only to meet the most amazing women. The pull was there the moment they met in the bar a pull neither of them could ignore but what they didn’t know was they were connected by her ex., but he isn’t walking away in fact he decides to create problems, will she be honest with Everett, will he tell her the truth of who her ex. really is to him, and will get the chance to find happiness with a little peace?
This really took me back, I was married to someone that verbally abused me for 30 yrs. I divorced him when he decided to go after are daughter who was pregnant we put him in jail. Unfortunately the abuse didn’t stop there, I lost so much in myself that I’m still finding things out about me that I lost. Reading this I kept asking I know counseling, but I was in counseling for over 5 yrs. I find out something new that I had lost, so do I go back into counseling because i definitely don’t know what to do. But like Melanie I would love to find that special person that will make me feel safe and listens to me. Everette made her feel more than safe, he made her feel special and loved as well. I truly want that.
I enjoyed the story Melanie and Everett great. She has not had it easy and has often been hurt in love, but everything changes when a new man appears in her life. Everett is exactly the man she needs says the doctor. He is patient and they have a chemistry and attraction between them. Just when they have taken the next step in their budding relationship, the past comes back in the form of her ex. Will they have a chance together and can she make sure that her ex leaves her alone once and for all?

I loved Melanie and Everett’s story. They had a beautiful love story and I love how they fought through everything together. I love the fact that Everett didn’t let anyone stand in the way of his law for Melanie, not even Nathaniel. I love that Melanie used what she was going through, in her life, to help other women do better in their life and get out of their tough situations. This was a heart, wrenching story and it made it easy to get into the story and see what the characters were going through. It was beautiful to see them get their happily ever after.
Melanie has been hurt by love. A new man in her life is awakening new possibilities- Everett is just what the doctor ordered, Perfect. But there is a catch, that just might bring the past back into her life full on. Her ex. Very good read.

This is a really great read with character’s that grow and are well developed. Each time these authors release a new work I think they can’t top themselves, and they do each and every time. Highly recommend this books as it had depth, growth, and it brings the heat. Another great book.
There was no satisfaction at the end. And the dialog throughout the book was too sweet and predictable for it to be enjoyable. Also, if you're looking panty melting moments, you won't find it here. I actually started skipping to the end because the storyline was so boring. Good luck with this one if you decide to buy it. Happy Reading❤
Absolutely loved Melanie and Everett’s story! A story of abuse by one man, and a story of love by another, who happened to be the father of her ex. I am glad that after all they went through things turned out ok. This story was a wonderful age gap love story with an HEA ending.
Melanie was in a bad relationship. She managed to break up with her boyfriend, however, what came next was a surprise. The love she received from Everett was what she was longing for. Things started to hit the fan and put a strain on their relationship. In the end, the two were able to find happiness
This was a great story about how love blossomed between Everett and Melanie against the backdrop of domestic violence subplot and the terrible relationship between a father and son
This story was pretty basic. There were some editing problems. At the end of the book, the poor man had to take his pants off twice before he could get “busy”!
