Leveling Up [Dramatized Adaptation] #7

Magical Midlife Alliance [Dramatized Adaptation]

Rate this book
After a disappointing return from the basajaunak lands, it's clear that Jessie and her crew need to form an alliance and fast! A massive battle is materializing, targeting Kingsley. Without more help, they'll never be enough to save Austin's brother from total annihilation.

The good news is, gargoyle cairns are interested in meeting her. She's the only living female gargoyle and a connection with her has the opportunity to improve their status. They'd just have to change their way of life to accommodate her, not an easy ask for a gruff, stubborn sort of creature.

She has her back against the wall. She must try and wrangle her crew into some semblance of "normal" to entice even just one major cairn to her side. Something not totally impossible…except for the interference of a cairn's Lead Enforcer.

He isn't just a gargoyle. Couldn’t be, not with his unnatural size, strength and glowing eyes. His origins are a mystery and his entire person is cloaked in danger. He might just hold their fate in his hands.

Making an alliance was always going to be difficult, but now it might be nearly impossible, and not just because the crew has no idea what "normal" might look like.

The clock is ticking.

Adapted from the novel and produced with a full cast of actors, immersive sound effects and cinematic music!

A fun next addition to the series! I liked the gargoyle meeting and Tristian is an interesting character for sure!

Don’t love the spice (seems added just to have it in there) but the story and characters - especially the dramatized audio version - are excellent!

My rating: 4.5*

Nessa! I loved getting so much of her POV in this one. The addition of Naomi & Tristan was fantastic and the gargoyle politics was so fun!

Graphic Audio continues to impress.

Basic Plot: Jessie continues to build her alliance as she meets up with other gargoyles.

Eh. The best parts of this series are the character interactions and the house's antics. The worst parts are the endless team-building and talking about conflict on the horizon. Guess which holds sway in this book? It feels like the Monty Python but where Lancelot is running at the screen for a ridiculously long time, only a lot less funny here. Seriously, I would like more plot and less planning. I'm not opposed to planning, but it is going on for WAY too long.

The story just gets better. The team is coming together and Jess is figuring out how to be a wonderful leader. Battles don’t always go according to plan but they come out on top in the end.

I really liked this series for the first three books. But now, eyy, I just don't know anymore.

The characters are still there but now we have new people coming in that listening to this is kind of making me more confused. I'm also at the point in our heroine's story where I'm good to stop here. I'm not quite interested to know what happens next.

Maybe it will be different if I was reading it, but I really liked the graphic novel of the audiobook. The storyline just kind of got a little too boring for me.

Magical Midlife Alliance was another absolute knockout, and the GraphicAudio version made the experience even more incredible. I already loved this series, but hearing it performed with a full cast, music, and sound effects adds so much depth and personality that it honestly feels like stepping directly into Jessie’s world.

One of my favorite things about this series is how it continues to grow without losing the charm and humor that made me fall in love with it in the first place. Jessie’s journey remains so satisfying to follow because she is powerful without feeling perfect, funny without trying too hard, and emotionally grounded even in the middle of magical chaos. Watching her relationships continue to evolve - especially with Austin and the rest of her found family - gives this series so much heart beneath all the action and supernatural madness.

The GraphicAudio adaptation deserves major praise because every performance felt spot on. The voices brought extra life to the characters, the humor landed beautifully, and the action scenes felt huge and cinematic. It made an already immersive story feel even more vivid and emotionally engaging.

At this point, I genuinely cannot imagine experiencing this series any other way. Reading the books is wonderful, but the GraphicAudio versions take everything I already love and amplify it. Another easy 5 stars for this amazing series.

3.5 ⭐️ Jacinta continues to build her alliance. I don’t quite understand why I feel completely comfortable with magical creatures including ones I’ve never heard of but feel dubious that someone can be a natural commander with very limited experience. I appreciate the skills a middle aged woman brings to any situation are generally underestimated but it feels the pendulum has swung a little far but likewise I’m not sure the cognitive dissonance between Jacinta’s empathy but reasonable comfort with bloodlust sits right.

I continue to absolutely love this series, and this book may be one of my favorites of all of them. There was a point where I was laughing hysterically while listening on my headphones in bed. I am pretty sure my roommates probably thought I had lost it. And Austin? So swoonworthy the way he takes care of Jess and the things he says. And the person who narrates him has an amazing voice. Then Tristan shows up and wow! I highly recommend listening to this series. They do a great job.

I'm still enjoying this series, especially the Graphic Audio version, but this book in the series was a tad tedious with the same jokes (although the jokes are still funny). It moved the story forward, but only by a tiny amount.

As always, great story and characters. The addition of Ulrich's mom and Naomi were amazing. I "ship" Broken Sue and Nessa of course. The plot evolves quite beautifully. Nothing is repetetive and settled. Always comes a surprise. I laughed a lot this time..

Book 7 followed right along with Jess and her merry band of magical creatures. We get another POV from Nessa and that was a fun little twist. As always, the characters are lovable and fun to get to know. There’s som spicy scenes mixed in, although less than the last couple books. The action scenes and fun and all in all, another great installment in the series. The audio is fantastic!
