Shade Owens once again creates a perfectly eerie, original thriller I couldn’t stop reading. The story is the perfect combination of intensity, suspense, and a dash of horror. There is a constant sense of foreboding with creepy vibes from start to finish. The plot had countless shocking reveals with an ending that was jaw-dropping and unexpected. Shade Owens is an auto-read author who never disappoints. I highly recommend this book to thriller addicts who enjoy a spine-tingling surprise. Thank you, Red Raven Publishing, for my ARC.

I was immediately grabbed by the cover and had to request the ARC. It’s definitely a remedy she won’t forget.
Five strangers who all deal with disabilities have been chosen to partake in a holistic treatment plan in a forest village for twelve months. It’s soon clear this isn’t your average natural remedy. There’s something out there feeding off their pain.
A very quick read. I thought this was going to be more of a horror story but I wasn’t at all disappointed by the end. An ending I wasn’t expecting at all.

How far would you go to save yourself from chronic illness or substance abuse? Would you accept free treatment at a remote location when you have nothing else to loose? Why not if you’ve already feel you’re at rock bottom..
This thriller kept me intrigued from the absolute beginning! Numerous unexpected twists, that I simply don’t believe anyone would see coming. There was WAY more to this story than I could have ever imagined! I absolutely loved these characters (the good ones haha) and the dual POVs made me love them even more, hearing their direct thoughts. Oksana’s back story was definitely a highlight of the book as it was great for the story and had significant relevance.

I've become a huge fan of Shade Owens! So much talent! I loved this book! Seems i am so entertained by some messed up stuff/situations lol. This book falls under that. To take such horrible advantage of these people suffering from chronic conditions is so low. The place they go to for healing, the spookiness of those creatures, the holistic witchcraft, and the tonics were all very entertaining and twisted! The end parts definitely shocked me. This story combines so many different genres, flawlessly, into one fun and fascinating, messed up kind of book!! Definitely recommend!!

This was my first read of Shade Owens. Although I have a BookSirens account, I haven't done a lot of ARC reading because it's not often that a synopsis grabs me. The Remedy, however, sounded interesting and fairly original. Plus, the synopsis itself was well-written, so I was in!
And, boy, I wasn't sorry. Instead of re-wording the synopsis, I want to focus on this author's skill. Owens's ability to weave a deep, underlying sense of foreboding throughout the story that only grows as you progress through the chapters, paired with mystery elements and expertly executed twists and turns... all made the story highly engaging and the ending difficult for me (an avid reader) to predict.
And the characters. The recruits for this retreat feel deeply human. Particularly Audrey and Okasana, since we get their POV, but also Alex, in what he reveals through his discussions with Audrey. They are easy to empathize with as we learn of their personal struggles and desperation. The brilliance here is that the staff are more exaggerated and almost cartoonish, which makes the environment feel all the more surreal for the patients (subjects?).
I would definitely recommend this book to anyone who enjoys horror, mysteries, thrillers, or just a good yarn. And I will, no doubt, be reading another Shade Owens book in short order. This is an author more people should know about. Tell your friends!

Aww, dang. This psychological thriller was so good. It had me on the edge of the seat for most of the book, trying to figure what the heck was going on. I was so enthralled by this book, I finished in just over 24 hours.
This was the first psychological thriller by Shade Owens I’ve read. I’ve only ever read her dystopian Dark Sanctuary series and that was fantastic as well. She definitely has a talent to tell a good tale, that’s for sure. With lots of tension, plot twists and an engrossing plot, this book delivers!
I know I will be reading all of her other books, especially since they engross me so much, I don’t want to put them down.

I was hooked on The Remedy the moment I read that first page. It drew me deep into its world from the start and kept me in suspense, racing to the end, wondering what was happening until the final page.
The many twists and turns kept the story flowing and captivated me. Just when I thought I had it all figured out, bam—another shockingly surprising twist was thrown my way, bringing me back down to earth and leaving me wondering what was truly happening.
I have read many of Shade’s books and intend to read more. Once I start one of Shade’s books, I am hooked immediately. I don’t even need to read the summary anymore to know that I want to read one of her works. I eagerly await her next release.

Whew! The Remedy had me on the edge of my seat from start to finish—I couldn’t put it down and devoured the entire book in a single day.
The twists took me completely by surprise, and I especially loved how everything came together in the end. The way the story threads connected was so satisfying and made me appreciate the plot even more.
The characters felt like real, everyday people, which made it easy to connect with them, sympathize with them, and feel their emotions. I was surprised by how much I ended up caring for Oksana. She started off as my least favorite (for hopefully obvious reasons!), but by the end, I was genuinely rooting for her and hoping things would turn out well for her.
Shade Owens is a fantastic storyteller, and this book left me eager to dive into more of her work. Highly recommend!

Shade’s ability to create layered, unforgettable characters, build relentless tension, misdirect like a master, and grab you by the throat never fails. Her writing pulls you in and doesn’t let go.

The Remedy is A Treatment no one will forget by Shade Owens. I must say that every thriller that I have read by Shade Owens is just fantastic. Her books are edgy, unexpected twist, and sometimes just plain scary. Audrey has tried everything to get a healthy body, yet she remains trapped in her own body. When she receives a letter promising a chance for health, she with 4 others jump at the lifeline that is extended. If this sounds to good to be true… it is! This is a creepy thriller that leaves you feeling breathless at times! How can you pass up the opportunity to be pain free? That is what is promised at this unbelievable treatment center. There’s weird shadows in the woods, lights blinking at in opportune times and other strange occurrences! I loved how it resolved. You think it might be a horror story, but it isn’t. And that’s what makes it such a fun book.

2.75 ⭐️ This book started off so unique but then got stagnant imo. There was a lot of repetition in the second half of going through scenarios that we already read about but from another characters perspective. I cringed at how often “sestra” was said 😅 & the random “badass” action scenes in the end. Just wasn’t for me :/

Let me start off by saying: I didn’t even read the synopsis before diving in. I saw “Shade Owens” and my brain said, “Say no more.” I’ve read her work before, and not once have I been let down, so yes, this was an instant click, download, cancel all plans kind of moment.
From the very first page, I was hooked. No easing in. No warm-up. Just straight into the deep end, and I loved every second of it. The setup? Five strangers chasing a cure that feels too good to be true. Spoiler: it is. And it deliciously unravels from there.
What blew me away—besides the creepy, can’t-look-away vibe, was the character development. You don’t just meet these characters, you feel them. You suspect them. You don’t trust a single soul (rightfully so), and yet, you’re rooting for them, second-guessing yourself at every turn. I had that constant feeling of “something’s not right here,” but couldn’t quite put my finger on it… until everything snapped into place with those glorious, gut-punch twists.
Also, special mention to the scene with the wolf spider. I had a recent run-in with one, and let me tell you, this scene hit a little too close to home. I was squirming.
The pacing? Impeccable. The tension? Chef’s kiss. Just when you think you’ve figured it all out, Shade throws in a curveball that has you questioning everything. Again.
Bottom line: Shade Owens has this uncanny ability to write stories that get under your skin, in the best, creepiest way possible. The Remedy was no exception. I need her next book. Like… now.
Highly recommend. Just don’t read it at night if you’re even mildly paranoid. You’ve been warned. 😉

A group of people who are chronically ill / disabled / and 1 person that struggles with addiction are invited to a retreat that promises them a cure. Each of them have struggled tremendously and are willing to try anything to get their lives back. The treatments offered are specialized to each person. The place has strict rules and they must stay there for 1 year in order to fully be cured.
I loved reading the ARC for Death Row Games by this author and I was so excited to be accepted to read this ARC. This book was so good!
The story is divided into 2 parts.
Part 1 is told through the POV of Audrey and Oksana. This part of the story is about what happens to the participants during their stay here and the way treatments affect them individually. I was able to accurately guess why some of the participants were getting better due to hints throughout the story.
Part 2 is told through the POV of Ben and Oksana. Ben’s POV consists of things that have already been presented in the story but this time it’s from his perspective as an outsider. This last part of the story where Oksanas POV happens is my favorite part of the story. It was so intense. I had no idea why they were gathered to the retreat so when it was revealed it was so shocking and terrifying. I really loved getting to read about everything Ben did to help his sister and the power of love in their relationship.
This story has great representation for what it’s like to live with chronic illness / chronic pain / addiction and the way society views and treats those group of people.

This was my first ARC book. I saw the book on my Facebook group and the cover caught my eye. I then read the description, which intrigued me even more. It’s what made me sign up for NetGalley and start doing reviews. And it was my first book accepted to review. So I thank the author for letting me do so.
I have only ever read psychological thrillers and when I started this one, it started to feel more suspense like which definitely kept me intrigued and wanting to find out what happens.
It was a very easy and fast read for me and although there were some parts where I thought seemed far fetched to me and gave me cult vibes, it was still a very interesting read and everything was wrapped up and explained at the end. There are triggers such as suicide and addiction, but the author does an amazing job warning those prior to. I had a loved one that suffered with addiction, so I felt connected to it in that way as well and was able to resonate with those around Oskana.
Honestly, it is a book I probably would not have picked up, but I am glad I did and for that I gave it 3 stars only because it was not my genre but was still a good book.
I have only ever read psychological thrillers and when I started this one, it started to feel more suspense like which definitely kept me intrigued and wanting to find out what happens.

I started this book with high expectations—after all, the premise is super, super intriguing. However, as the story unfolds and in the way it's narrated, I feel that many loose ends are left unresolved.
The book is divided into two parts and features multiple narrators. The characters are quite interesting, and each one has a life story marked by physical or psychological pain. Considering that pain, when each of them is promised a cure and a wish, how could they refuse?
A retreat in nature, of a holistic kind, promises free treatment to those who need it most... but there's something quite suspicious behind it. And when doubts begin to arise—despite seeming like a miraculous treatment—everything goes off the rails, and the patients begin to question and fear for their lives.
Is the cure something from “another world”? Or is it all just a very well-orchestrated scam?
I must admit I would have liked a different ending. It’s not bad, but I felt it lacked a twist related to the “cure” they preach.
Overall, it’s a solid read and doesn’t disappoint.

Audrey has suffered from chronic pain for years. Doctors tell her it's all in her head. She's lost her job, her car, and now is facing eviction. She has decided tonight is the night to end it. But at the last moment, an envelope arrives telling her she has been accepted into a trial retreat to help cure her illness. All she has to do, is live at the retreat for a year, and follow the doctors orders. Easy, right? But, things aren't all they seem at this retreat. And Oksana, the heroin addict, is the only one who can see this.
This was an incredibly strange book, and gave serious cult vibes. It had me intrigued from the very beginning, and until the end of part one, I thought I had some idea of what was going on. I did not...
I have to admit, I enjoyed part two a lot more than part one. But the whole book was just pure creepy.

I received this as an ARC. The beginning of this book was fantastic. Sucked me in real quick and it moved fast. My favorite author released a book just days after I started this one and I was anxious to get through her book to get back to this one. And that is saying a lot, however this book took a weird turn and fell really flat and left me scratching my head asking what in the heck just happened. There was little to no substance or back story for the reasoning for the retreat. I think the book moved very quickly in the beginning and almost too quickly for the end. I just did not like the way the story ended, and I think it had so much potential to be a really unique and great book, but with the end falling very flat with many holes, I’m giving this three stars.

I will drop whatever I am reading to DEVOUR a Shade Owens book.
This book had my mind blown! The authors ability to draw you into the “quackery” had my mind spinning. I knew everything wasn’t as it seemed but she had me almost believing in the Umbrivores. Nothing could have prepared me for the truth though and that’s what I love about these books, you can spin your wheels and brainstorm while reading, but you'll likely be wrong.

I read Dean Koontz in the 70's and thought the man was talented. But after reading 'The Remedy' by Shade Owens, it's obvious to me where the BIG talent lies. Once I started reading 'The Remedy' I couldn't put it down. The characters are believable, the suspense tangible, and the backdrop well painted. And just when you begin to feel you know where the story is going, Owens pulls a one-eighty and all your suspicions are turned on their heads. A well written story that I guarantee will keep you entertained from page one thru to the end.

I do like escaping into a book by this author but this one just took it to new level it was so good. As someone who suffers similar conditions to descrbed in the book, I get trying everything. The last half I didn't see coming.

This book had me hooked from the beginning! Though, be prepared for a suspense filled ride where you have to suspend belief and remember it’s fiction.
The book starts out simple enough, following Audrey and understanding life with chronic pain. I could FEEL the depths of her despair. While her journey to the holistic trial headquarters is questionable at best, it again proves the level of desperation she was at. Here’s where things get weird- in a good way. Now there are five members, all apart of this top secret holistic approach to wellness that has them cut off from the world. From all different backgrounds, each person has a need to be there. I felt like each character was developed “enough”, but would’ve loved a deeper connection with each of them.
This story was amazing - I truly didn’t know which way it was going to go. The anticipation had me in a choke hold to get to the end. The pacing was a bit off, spending a little more time on the ending and the explanation would’ve made this a five star read. My only other dislike was when part two started and the new character’s dialog felt very juvenile. I attributed it to being an intentional representation of how the character played out his thoughts, but I almost stopped reading the book at that point. I’m glad I finished because I really did enjoy it! Thank you NetGalley and Red Raven Publishing for the ARC!

This book definitely has an interesting premise, and I was drawn to it as someone who has dealt with chronic illness myself. The themes explored in this book touched on just how far we would be willing to go when we have nothing to lose and how easily we can be deceived when we desire something badly enough, and therefore how easily we can fall prey to deception. The beginning of this book had decent pacing but it definitely slowed down quite a bit in the middle. Ultimately what was revealed, I was able to predict and fell flat, sadly. I thought so much more could've been done with this premise and it ended up basically being a Scooby doo ending with a lackluster motive--which was disappointing. Audrey and Oksana's inner dialogs are a bit too much, it got to be a little repetitive.

I was practically writhing in agony while reading this! There was a time when I experienced such intense pain that I managed to accomplish a lot, yet my doctor was utterly baffled by my condition. I felt an uncanny connection to the main character. After a caffeine detox, I was back to my old self, but not without enduring muscle aches and sheer exhaustion from the pain. I was completely in sync with the protagonist, feeling every ounce of her struggle, pain, fatigue, and that overwhelming sense of helplessness. It’s a lot to unpack!
Five strangers, each struggling with their own health issues, gather at a remote sanctuary after receiving an offer for a miraculous cure. Audrey, tired of being a guinea pig for treatments, eagerly joins the others in hopes of healing her chronic pain. However, as they experience rapid improvements, they soon realize that the cure comes with a dark twist: it feeds off their ailments instead of truly healing them. What seemed like a solution quickly turns into a nightmare.
Audrey, the main character, was incredibly relatable, and I found myself desperately hoping for a happy ending. The narrative unfolds through multiple perspectives: Audrey, Oksana, and Benjamin, with some police transcripts sprinkled in for a full story reveal. Oksana, while initially less likable, reminded me that we can’t judge anyone solely by their actions—after all, what would we do in her shoes? By the end, I found myself rooting for nearly every character, and the conclusion? What on earth?! I didn’t see it coming, yet somehow, I did. Shade Owens has a knack for crafting rock-and-roll tales filled with twisted, eerie, and unexpected plots, and this one is no exception!
The atmosphere described in the book adds a layer of darkness and creepiness that perfectly complements the unfolding drama. When you piece it all together, you have a spine-tingling read that’s hard to put down. I guarantee you won’t see the main twist coming, and you’ll be left wondering how you could have missed what was really happening! WOWZA!
