T. Joseph Browder was born in Lima, Ohio in 1969, and is the author of 'Dark Matters,' 'Plague,' 'Infernal,' 'Nobody,' and the forthcoming 'Bark at the Moon,' a no holds barred werewolf novel in the vein of 'The Howling' and 'The Wolfen.'

Of writing, T. Joseph Browder says: "I'm an addict. Some people are addicted to alcohol, some to marijuana, coke, or heroin. I'm addicted to writing. It's my drug of choice, and like the monkey on the back of the heroin user, it compels me to sit down at my computer every day and check out of reality. If I don't 'use' often enough I suffer withdrawals. The pain is tangible. For me, writing is a high like no other. It's one helluva buzz."

A student of Psychology, T. Joseph Browder also holds Doctorates in Divinity, Metaphysics, and Religious Humanities. "I'm an ordained minister," Browder says, "but that's a prerequisite for the education I was pursuing. I've performed a wedding ceremony or two, but have never felt the urge to preach before a congregation."

Like his education, Mr. Browder's writing is driven by an insatiable curiosity for what makes people behave the way they do, make the choices they make, and feel the way they feel. Drawing on an intimate knowledge of the evil alive in humanity, his work centers on the darker aspects of life, the sudden changes and left turns life throws at all of us, and how we react to those things that lurk around the next corner and go bump in the night.

Mr. Browder currently lives in Kansas with his wife, Marie, and is hard at work on a new novel.

This story is bleak and depressing. I loved it.

The rabies virus has mutated, and no one is immune. The infected turn violent, and the whole world has been thrown into chaos.

The very beginning of the story is nothing short of horrific, and it escalates from there. A man struggles to keep himself and his daughters alive. He is not immune. His daughters aren't immune. He hasn't found a cure. He isn't trying to save the world. He's just trying to protect his family.

This well-written tale is compelling and terrifying. What this man goes through is something I wouldn't wish upon anyone. I think he was too hard on himself at times. He did what he had to do in order for him and his children to survive. His actions weren't unforgivable, however, I can understand why he would feel that way. But what he does in the end is shocking, and dare I say...noble? I'm honestly still not sure how I feel about it. I can't seem to get it out of my head!

This was a short story that was simply unforgettable. Highly recommended for anyone who can handle a very dark and disturbing tale.

I'll never look at Campbell's Chunky Soup the same way again...

Disclaimer: I received an e-copy in exchange for an honest review.

The rabies virus has mutated, and it has a 100% infection rate. Worse, it has a 100% mortality rate. Everyone has it, and there's no escape. The only thing you can do is protect those you love for as long as possible. And that is what our main character does. He holds out hope for his family, especially his two little girls, not that they will survive (because they all know that's impossible), but that they will make it through one more day together.

This is a short story that hits the point head-on and doesn't let up. It's a quick read, but it's definitely powerful, and it certainly strikes a nerve. As the book jacket says, it's scary because it not only *could* happen, but in these days of chemical and biological experimentation and warfare, as well as just good old-fashioned viral mutation, it *might* happen. Chew on that for a while...

Plague tells the story of a man who, after the outbreak of a zombie plague, has to face the changing first of his wife and then his daughters into mindless flesh-craving creatures. It is told in diary form from the man's POV, and what I first noticed was the straightforward, matter-of-factly way he used.

It was amazing how the absence of any emotional expression could evoke such a deep sense of dread and despair. However, distancing himself from the events in such a way enabled the man to cope with the situation without breaking down. I did not agree with his final decision and would have acted differently, but I can understand it.

A very depressive but also impressive tale.

This is not your usual “zombie” tale, it’s so much more than that. It is quite a sad short story of trying to survive when you think there is no hope. I am of the belief that there is always hope but this made me question that.

I liked it and my full review can be found at http://haziegaze.blogspot.co.uk/.

Wonderful short piece by Browder that explores what lengths a man will go to for his children ... even in a "zombie" apocalypse.
