Sterling Falls #7

Sterling Stone

Rate this book
This small town *could* be big enough for both of them . . .

Quiet. Serious. Protective. Words Stone Sylver would use to describe himself. And yet, something in his classic blue eyes said he was so much more. Buried beneath the years of raising his younger siblings and working as a small-town sheriff was a man looking for love.

Of course, I didn’t get all that the first night we met. The night we did a one-two step in a hotel hallway and knocked heads. The same night we shared a sweet potato cupcake and a single kiss.

Why didn’t we share more?

The answer became a great mystery and because I thought he was only a brief interlude in my wanderlust life, I wasn’t prepared to see him again in Sterling Falls.

Visiting the small town where I once lived, I learn the man I witnessed act like a superhero was more entwined in my past than I’d remembered. And for a woman often afraid of a future, I suddenly craved one…with him. Which made no sense because I’ve never stuck in one place before. No one had ever asked me to stay.

Then again, from our first encounter, I knew Stone Sylver was different.

I received an ARC of this book. It is part of a series that has interconnected standalone book which I have not read any of.

I loved this book. I was most drawn to the MMC, Stone. Growing up he put his life on hold to raise his siblings when his parents died. The writer was really able to convey his sense of family but also the happiness and loneliness he feels watching all of his adult siblings find their partners and build their lives. I could feel how much he wishes for a love of his own when he meets Taxi, the FMC. She has a similar background with losing her parents at a young age and has to deal with the feelings that she never belonged somewhere and needed to wander to feel fulfilled. I loved watching their love story unfold and seeing how each of them was able to conquer their fears and finding happiness and belonging with each other. I highly recommend this book and I will definitely be reading the other ones in this series.

LB Dunbar is a guilty pleasure read for me. I love her characters, her writing style, and her silver foxes. I am sorry to see the end of the Sylver family, but I know that what comes next will fill the space they leave.

Stone is the eldest of the Sylver siblings, he has been their caretaker, their champion, and watched them all find love. Now it is his turn. It is going to be a special women to thaw his heart, to be open to love.

Taxi is an artist, a creative, who travels and paints in the towns she contracts with. Full of wanderlust she never lands in one spot for long. She is living her dream.

A passing meeting creates the spark with Taxi and Stone. A missed opportunity, and then she is invited to the Sylver family dinner, not by Stone. Taxi is on the move, occasional contact is made. But somewhere along the line, things change and thoughts are no longer what-if?

The perfect ending to the series, we get to spend quality time with the family. Taxi and Stone are seasoned adults and are handled with real world responsibilities and scars. Nothing is rushed and the pace is set by the author, who does a fabulous job.

Thank you to the Author for the advanced copy; this is my voluntary review.

L.B. Dunbar writes about this family so well. I just don't want it to end. The entertaining banter, the wonderful characters including the side characters like Trudy and the spice that was so good are what truly makes this a great read. Stone has always been the strong, stoic anchor for the Sylver family especially after becoming their guardian instead of going to the NFL. Now he's seen all of them find love and he thinks it's possible for him with Taxi/Tallulah/Delilah 😆. Stone and Tallulah both have had so much happen in their lives that they are really soulmates. I enjoyed having the main characters be over forty and still have spicy scenes. Watching the relationship between Stone and Taxi cautiously maneuver their budding romance was so emotional and heartfelt. I really loved this sorry about family, community, hope and mature love.

From the beginning you’re dropped straight into Stone and Taxi’s world, watching them navigate love and life. This story gives you a front-row seat to their struggles, their growth, and their undeniable chemistry. Fair warning though—once you start, you won’t be able to stop until the very last page. And honestly? That’s how you know it’s a romance worth reading—the kind where the characters linger with you long after you close the book.

I got an ARC of this book

A chance meeting between Stone Sylver and a beautiful woman is just the start of what will become a series of twists, and a relationship that evolves slowly. Stone stayed home and watched over his siblings, giving up his dreams, but it meant he watched while they all found love and settled down, and he...well, stayed. Now if only he can get her to stay.

Taxi (Tallulah) is a wanderer, an artist who roams the country, painting murals and sharing her art, when she meets a gorgeous guy and they form a connection. Then months later they meet again, only this time it's not so sweet. They have an unexpected connection in their pasts, and now they have to deal with it in their present. If she can get past the baggage her childhood has given her, she and Stone could have something amazing.

I'm so glad Stone finally got his forever. He and Taxi may have taken a long, bumpy journey to get to their happiness, but it was worth every obstacle they overcame, because they got each other in the end. Stone, oh Stone, he deserved every beautiful thing. He was the true rock of his family, had seen them through everything. Taxi ended up being his one, but it definitely took awhile for her to see it. I wasn't too sure of her for most of the story, but her background made some of her behavior understandable. I'm truly sorry that this series is ending, but I'm glad it ended with my favorite Sylver.

Let it Stone, Let it Stone, Let it Stone. Finally.

I’m not ready to leave Sterling Falls. So many Sylvers – six brothers and a sister – and the loves of their lives. So many stories of how they became the family they are today. Their tragic childhood and how the older brothers became parents to the younger siblings. The friends and neighbors who were there for them when they most needed it. How the family grew, adding precious children. Sylver Seed & Soil. The old family home. The beauty of Sterling Falls itself, the falls and the river. All told story by story, not in sibling order but in the order of significant, life-changing events.

And here we are now with the final book and the oldest sibling. Stone is aptly named, because he is strong and sturdy, unwavering, there to lean on, holding up the foundation. His job fits him, too – Sheriff Stone Sylver is dependable, fair, keeping order but always caring. So where has his happy-ever-after been? He was betrayed years ago by his best friend and the woman he thought he’d spend the rest of his life with. On the cusp of a professional football career, he was needed at home so he gave up his career. And that woman gave him up. He resigned himself to just being big brother Stone, then Sheriff Stone, and then Uncle Stone. Sure, he’s got friends and there have been women in his life, but no one special and lasting. Not The One. He’s okay with that although he does get lonely now and again, but he’ll be fine, even after Vale and Hudson move out (to move in with, btw, Cortland, that ex-best friend) and leave him all alone in that big house. Yep, he’s okay. Or so he says.

Taxi is an artist. She travels the country painting murals, beautiful murals bursting with color and special meaning for each town she contracts with. It’s an interesting life. She’s always on the move, but she is successful and has friends and is living her dream. She doesn’t compare herself to her mother, who was always chasing, chasing, chasing but rather considers it just using her talent, spreading the beauty of her art. Her childhood was complicated: death, betrayal, desertion. Then a warm home to grow up in, but she doesn’t realize she never relaxes, never stays still because she’s afraid she won’t be enough once again and someone else will leave her.

Stone and Taxi meet briefly in a hotel. Happenstance, same place, same time. Their connection is startling, instant, sweet – and reserved. Inner thoughts going wild but no quick hook up. Hoping to see each other again before leaving but then a misunderstanding leaves Taxi angry and feeling justified in keeping to herself, and leaving Stone repeatedly thinking what-if?

The stars are aligned or something because suddenly Taxi shows up for dinner at Sylver Sunday. With Trudy, one of those friends and neighbors who played, and still plays, an important role in the Sylver’s lives. Taxi lived in Sterling Falls for a time, but her name isn’t really Taxi and there’s a bit of an age gap between her and Stone so why would they have realized they are from the same place. And the attraction? Still there, strong as ever, but there is still the misunderstanding, issues to resolve, trust to give and receive. But when things heat up, there’s no stopping them.

This is not a whirlwind romance. Author L. B. Dunbar spreads it out over a long period of time. Occasional contact, postcards. And over this period of time the what-if becomes I want . . . I need . . . is it possible . . . .

Sad as I am to leave Sterling Falls and the Sylvers, author Dunbar has written the perfect book as the final one. Stone is such a wonderful man and Taxi is so much stronger than she realizes. These are not two youngsters with stars in their eyes but two adults with experiences, wounds, scars and an understanding of what forever means. Dunbar also treats us to lots of time with the rest of the family, visits to the falls and provides the perfect peek into the future. I received an advance copy of Sterling Stone. Happy, sad and totally satisfied reading it. You need to read this series; I guarantee you will love the Sylvers as much as I do. I voluntarily leave this review; all opinions are my own.

(I received an ARC for this book)

trigger warnings will be at the bottom of this review, to avoid spoilers
Both main characters had rough childhoods, and the events are detailed on page. I’ve added some of those triggers at the bottom to avoid spoilers (including spoilers towards previous books in the series.) Detailed information about the loss of loved ones, an incarcerated parent, a loved one has a medical event, racism and racist/sexist comments towards main character and side character said and discussed on page, mentions of drug use and distribution, a child is in a dangerous situation, the MMC is the town sheriff, so there are on the job incidents described on page.

This family. I’m not ready to say goodbye to them! I thought saving Stone for last would prepare me…but I was WRONG! Experiencing the Sylver family from his POV was truly a beautiful way to end the series. Spending time with the family through him is an entirely different experience, and it almost broke my heart. And adding Taxi to the family makes my heart so happy! Stone has been his siblings' strength. Aptly named. Being able to witness true happiness for him was something I have hoped from since the start of this series. And although Taxi is a new addition, getting to experience her journey, her growth, her courage was equally just as important to me. Their meet cute was the cliche “in the way” back and forth dance in a hallway. Strangers, using fake names, never meant to see each other again. (Because that’s how their lives just are.) Except when Taxi ends up at his family home, an unexpected tether to his past, present, and future. He’s curious, interested, and sincere from the moment they meet. And that continues (and intensifies) throughout. Taxi isn’t sure how to understand and accept his presence in her life. Or her feelings towards him. Stone’s softness towards his loved ones and the members of the community who looked out for them as children brought me to tears. This is absolutely my favorite small town series. Saying goodbye is bittersweet.

My Favorite Quotes:
• “I’ve never kissed anyone the way I kissed you.”
• “Let me show you who I am.”
• “My favorite color is your eyes. They’re the prettiest color I’ve ever seen.”
• “Is this what you want, baby? Want me between those sweet thighs?”
• “You give and you give, and you give. You need to take.”
• “I don’t think I could ever forget you. No matter where I go.”
• “You’re everything I’ve been wishing for and everything I never thought I’d have.”
• “Be gentle with me.”
• “I just need you.”

Trigger Warnings include:
Some of these triggers involve information from previous books in this series.
Loss of a mother during childbirth, an alcoholic/abusive/absent parent, the incarcerated parent is doing time for murdering the other parent after years of abuse, the drug use/distribution leads to a manslaughter arrest, a loved one suffers a heart attack and is in the hospital, a child runs away and the situation is detailed on page.

45-year-old Stone Sylver, has raised his six siblings and now he prefers to sit
back and be content in watching their happiness. The only commitments he
wants is them and his town of Sterling Falls, West Virginia where he’s the sheriff.
He was happy with his life, but lonely at times. That is, until 43-year-old Taxi, an
urban artist, enters his life.

Taxi is a free spirit. She NEVER puts down roots and she enjoys bringing
communities together, working with young artists, while trying to
represent the rich multicultural people and their spirit through her murals.

Both Stone and Taxi came from broken homes. They believed that freedom,
with no commitments is what they wanted out of life…until a chance encounter
in a Knoxville hotel finds them sharing a single kiss that sparks the beginning of
their story.

L.B’s sense of characters and unique storytelling will lure you into Stone and
Taxi’s tale, where your front row seat will have you witness their struggle in this
small town, later in life, spicey romance. But beware, once you start reading, you
won’t put it down until you’ve read the last word. To me, that’s the mark of a
great romance…the characters stay with you even when you close the book.

Stone’s story is the culmination of the Sylver family saga, bringing ALL the
Sylver siblings to their happily ever afters.

I liked that the road to happiness wasn’t easy for this couple. That kiss in a
Knoxville hotel starts it, but it’s a bumpy ride for these two.
Taxi sees Stone with an old friend the morning after they first met and assumes
he played her, so when they meet again, sparks fly. Both Stone and Taxi
weren’t prepared for romance, yet fate keeps bringing them back together
time and time again. Stone asks of Taxi, “Let me show you who I am”, but will she?
She’s been gun shy of law enforcement since her mom was taken away to prison
and Stone’s profession has her hesitant to start a relationship with him.

There are seven books in the Sterling Falls series, each of them can stand alone,
but I’m warning you, once you open the door to this dysfunctional, yet loving family
that is trying to survive their abusive upbringing; you won’t stop reading until you’ve
read each and every one of their stories.

I really enjoyed how Taxi’s artistic expertise is interwoven into the story,
drawing our attention to the colors around her. Plain gray becomes stunning
sterling. Taxi’s jealousy isn’t her seeing red, it’s rich crimson that stabs her heart at
seeing Stone with another woman, even though the woman is just a friend.

I like a romance with a good story, memorable characters and that “I can’t put it
down” essence and this novel hits all three. Put this on top of your “what to read next”
pile. It won’t disappoint. And if this is your first trip to Sterling Falls, Welcome! Now
you have 6 other books to read!

I was given an arc copy of this new romance for my honest review.

ARC Review of Sterling Stone Book 7 in the Sterling Falls Series by L.B Dunbar. This book is part of an interconnected series but can be read as a standalone. This is a 5 star read for me I absolutely loved it. I have loved Stone since book 1 in this series and have loved seeing him in all his siblings books, I am so happy to finally see his HEA. This is Stone and Taxi’s story they are opposites but I absolutely love them they fit so well together. This book is so good I was obsessed from the first page this book made my heart happy I couldn’t help but smile and laugh, but it also broke my heart with what Stone and Taxi had gone through in their pasts, I am glad they found each other. This is a slow burn, spicy, silver fox sheriff, wanderlust urban artist, opposites attract, protective mmc, small town romance. Stone Sylver is 45 he is the sheriff of Sterling Falls a small mountain town in West Virginia. He is also the oldest of his 6 siblings. Tallulah aka Taxi is 43 she is an urban artist who travels across the US creating art she usually doesn’t stay in one town too long. Stone and Taxi have a hotel hallway meet cute and then meet again randomly in a bar that same night. They have an instant mutual attraction and like talking to each other they part ways at the end of the night without even knowing each others real names. They haven’t been able to stop thinking about each other since they met and it seems like fate when they are reunited 3 months later when she comes to Sterling Falls, but their reunion starts off rocky with a big misunderstanding, and Taxi making the wrong assumption the morning after they met and the realization that their pasts are connected and they didn’t know it. Taxi used to live in Sterling Falls with her aunt and sisters when she was a child until she left when she was 18. She’s a free spirit and is afraid of staying anywhere long enough to put down roots. Stone has always wanted to travel and go other places but has had to take care of his younger siblings since their mom died when they were young. Family is everything to Stone since he raised his siblings but with all of his siblings finding love he also wants to find the One. Taxi desperately wants to find her person and settle down but is scared to fall for Stone because of her mothers past relationships with men. Taxi has trust issues and she has a lot of walls up Stone is such a good man I absolutely love him and am glad he breaks through her walls and gets her to trust him. They both have fears with commitment from being hurt in the past and both have trauma in their past but I love how they come together despite their fears to get their HEA. This was a great ending to the Sterling Falls Series and all the Svlyer siblings finding love.

Oh my goodness! Stone is the ideal book boyfriend! Strong, stoic and steadfast with a kind and generous heart and a romantic soul that he keeps well hidden. He took over raising his siblings at the age of twelve after his mother died and his father drowned his pain in booze. He gave up his dreams in order to keep his siblings together and offer them the support and love they needed. Stone has carried his need to protect into his career and is now the Sheriff, a man his community respects and admires. Still, one thing is missing from his life….a woman to share it with. All of his siblings have paired up and found happiness, and Stone longs for the same for himself. He thought fate had gifted him with the woman meant for him, but it seems he was wrong.

A chance meeting with a vibrant and fascinating woman while he was in Tennessee lives in his memory full time. He and the mystery lady had a connection that he has never felt with any other woman. Unfortunately, he never got her name or any contact information. Then fate brings her back into his life, but she seems to hate him. She is connected to a woman that his family adores. Trudy has always been a source of support for him and his siblings after his mother’s death. His mystery women Tallulah, though she calls herself Taxi, is Trudy‘s niece. It takes a beat before Stone learns why she is no longer receptive to him. Even after he clears up the misunderstanding, Taxi rejects his plea to give him, them, a chance, choosing instead to continue to roam the country and keep her heart guarded and safe.

When Fate brings Taxi back into his life again in a rxther nasty way, Stone is there to offer her support, encouragement and his heart again. This time, Taxi is forced to examine her life and her heart, to truly ask what she is looking for and what will make her happy. All of her life, she has felt herself to be invisible, unwanted or a burden, so she has deliberately closed her heart to love. Now her aunt and a young boy need her. Stone has shown her his steadfast and generous hear as well. Only she can decide to stay, to finally open her heart to love and to trust it and someone else.

This poignant, heartwarming book includes plenty of humour. It also has tender moments that brought me to tears, moments that made me sigh and smile, and moments where I huffed and maybe growled in frustration. In other words, I was totally immersed in this story and invested in a happily ever after for the silver fox Sheriff and the beautiful artist with wanderlust. I highly recommend this very special and memorable book.

STERLING STONE by L.B.DUNBAR ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Sterling Stone is the seventh (#7) book in the STERLING FALLS series

Small town Sheriff Stone Sylver has dedicated his life to raising and supporting his six younger siblings. Determined to keep their family together he sacrificed his own happiness for theirs, but now they’re all grown with their own families, Stone has only a solitary future to look forward to.

Whilst travelling for work he bumps into an enigmatic woman in a hotel hallway and after they meet again in a bar later that night they share a kiss. One kiss.

Months later Stone is stunned to not only see the mystery woman in his home town but to realise she is actually entwined in his past.

As the two become acquainted Stone feels a deep connection with Taxi, but she’s a free spirit, never settling down and he would never clip her wings….

————————————

I’m pretty sure this is the first book by L.B.Dunbar I have read but I will most definitely be looking out for more of her work.

How lovely to not only find a romance about more mature MCs, but one that recognises and acknowledges that the more mature of us can have life (and love) issues too, and deals with them in a thoughtful and sympathetic manner.

I absolutely fell in love with Stone! The way he’d dedicated his early life to ensuring his siblings got to live theirs at the expense of his own happiness, his patience and giving nature, his flecks of silver, and his moustache!! 😍 I defy anyone to read this story and not have their heart ache for this man, to not urge him on to his HEA!

I must admit I found Taxi’s flighty nature frustrating at times but the more we learned about her childhood the more I understood her actions. The chemistry between the pair was perfect and I loved that the author gave time for their relationship to develop naturally.

Stone’s siblings, Trudy and the other side characters in this story are intriguing, and I’m determined to read the earlier books in the series. There is open door spicy scenes but they are dealt with tastefully and aren’t gratuitous but rather highlight the progression of Stone and Taxi’s relationship.

I read an ebook copy of this delightful book, with around 400 pages, good editing and a male model cover.

With thanks to L.B. Dunbar and Hambright PR for an early read of this book. All comments are my own honest, unbiased opinion.

A silver fox sheriff, a wandering artist and a small town that changes everything

4.25 ⭐️ | 2.25 🌶️

Sterling Stone is my first dive into L.B. Dunbar’s work and overall, it was a really solid, swoony introduction to the Sterling Falls world.

This is book seven in the series, but it reads well as a standalone, centering on two very grown adults with very lived-in lives. Taxi (Tallulah) is a 42-year-old urban artist who’s spent her life drifting from place to place, never quite letting herself settle. Stone Sylver is a 45-year-old small-town sheriff, quiet, serious, protective to his core, and shaped by a lifetime of responsibility after raising his siblings when tragedy struck his family. When these two collide (literally) in a hotel hallway, sparks fly… even if neither of them realizes just how deep those sparks run.

What I loved most about this book is the vibe. It’s small-town romance through and through: slow burn, emotionally layered, rooted in family history, and full of that cozy-yet-heavy feeling where everyone knows everyone, and the past is never really buried. Stone is a standout MMC: steady, dependable, quietly romantic, and very much a silver fox sheriff worth swooning over. His devotion, patience, and emotional availability were a big win for me.

Taxi, on the other hand, is where things got a bit complicated. While I appreciated her artistic soul and her fear of being tied down, I did find her emotional hot-and-cold moments frustrating at times. For a woman in her 40s, her “free spirit” indecision occasionally read more immature than conflicted, especially given how emotionally grounded Stone is. I understand why she behaves the way she does (both families carry a lot of weight and history) but that doesn’t always make it easier to read.

The romance itself is a slow, simmering build rather than a fiery blaze, and once I settled into the author’s writing style, the story flowed nicely. It took me a little longer to fully click with the book; not because of the plot, but because some sentence constructions pulled me out of the moment but once I was in, I stayed invested.

If you’re in the mood for a later-in-life romance with depth, second chances, small-town charm, and a protective sheriff who knows exactly what (and who) he wants, Sterling Stone delivers. It’s heartfelt, emotional, occasionally frustrating, but ultimately satisfying.

Thank you to Hambright PR for the e-ARC, and congratulations to L.B. Dunbar on the release of Sterling Stone (January 29th). Sterling Falls definitely left me curious to explore more of this series.

✦Series: Sterling Falls, 7
MF interconnected standalone.
Taxi and Stone meet by chance in a hotel in Nashville. Instant sparks and he charms her something fierce but walks away! They meet again months later in Sterling Falls before she takes off for a year as a traveling artist. Let the slow burn begin!

The setup was brilliant! 👏 I couldn’t stop grinning. This whole book felt like the best was saved for last.

✦POV: Dual, first-person
Stone Sylver: charming, swoony, silver fox fantasy! I knew he’d be the one, and I was right! He devoted his life (and abandoned his dreams) to be everyone else’s rock, and he finally gets his HEA. Top-tier book boyfriend! I had that swooning/fainting meme in my head on repeat. 🫠

Taxi channels childhood trauma into art that connects communities and supports youth. Hers was the major growth arc, and it was deeply satisfying.

✦Spice: Open door, explicit
The tension builds from their meet cute and stretches over a year for an achingly tender, will-they, wont-they slow burn. Toe-curling kisses, mature communication and vulnerability, their chemistry is exquisite.
❝They say lightning never strikes twice. Whoever they are has never kissed this man.❞

» I adore epistolary elements and the postcards were genius.

» L.B. Dunbar’s writing is eloquent, funny, and often poetic. If she writes it, I’ll read it.

✩ Found family is a major theme and beautifully woven throughout. The girl group embracing Taxi, Stone's relationship with his siblings, and Trudy Wallace brought so much heart to the story.

♡ Sigh. I feel like I waited so long for Stone’s story, and the end of this series made me emotional. Stone is the sexy, gallant, southern gentleman you’ve been waiting for; I hope you love him as much as I did. HEA guaranteed!

⭐️⭐️⭐️️⭐️/ ️🌶️🌶️🌶️

From the moment I met the Sylver family way back in book 1 of the Sterling Falls series, I knew Stone was going to be the last one to get his happy ending. Each book in this series by LB Dunbar showcased him as the glue that held his family together, but in Sterling Stone, he finally finds someone who is everything he needs and more. The final book in this series, yet the one I have been most excited for.

Stone has given up everything, repeatedly, for the good of his siblings and keeping his family intact. From a young age, he knew keeping his brothers and sister safe would fall on him, which also caused him to grow up much faster than needed. He has found contentment in his Sheriff role in Sterling Falls and seeing all of his siblings find their happy endings. He loves being an uncle also, but people can tell he isn’t being honest when he says he is ok. When he meets someone who ignites feelings deep within him, he isn’t ready for the journey he's about to be on.

Taxi is the perfect addition to the ever growing Sylver clan. She causes things from Stone’s past, present, and future to collide in the best way possible, bringing out emotions that are stronger than either can deny. Taxi is a strong and resilient woman. Able to help hold Stone up when he’s depleted and empty. Her understanding what a broken family can do to a person is monumental for their relationship. I adored her so much and she is exactly what Stone needs.

LB Dunbar has written an interconnected series that truly brings to life family. The Sylver’s love hard, feel deep, and love big. Each of them needed to heal from childhood, but through the steadfastness of Stone and other older siblings, they survived. Taxi challenges Stone, while Stone makes Taxi want to put down roots. LB definitely saved the best for last (in my humble opinion) and ended this series in the perfect way! I will definitely be re-reading this whole series often.

As always, review any author notes before reading.

Sterling Stone
Sterling Falls #7
by L.B. Dunbar

There are times in your reading life that you really don’t want to say goodbye to a series you love. Sterling Stone is one of those stories for me.

Each character has added so much to the Sylver family story, now we have Stone Sylver’s story. One we have waited for, a story that is pure perfection for this series. A man who we have always wanted to see get his own happily ever after. I mean he raised his siblings, he is the Sheriff that everyone loves …. so where has his love been?

Turns out that Stone’s future was a part of his past, with his raising his sibling years and if their own names Tallulah Alexander aka Taxi, meet Stone Sylver
they might have put two and two together.

Their meeting in Knoxville was kismet but a misread look into the hotel dining room had her thinking all things bad about Stone. What! you say? Stone Sylver not a man one would chase….but when that one woman who might have chased him back in April realizes in July what a mistake she had made in thinking he was a cheater, a liar and a thief of hearts! She had a lot of rethinking to do. Since he stole my heart in book one, let’s just say it took me awhile to warm up to Taxi! I mean Stone totally was a man who would steal your heart, have your back and be there for you.

Taxi was a woman who moved around, she is an urban artist, she had contracts to fulfill, and walls to paint. She needed time and well Stone, was he ever going to find love?

This author brought her readers a story about family, love, support, tearing down walls, then shoring up hearts of the two people who are made for each other. The chemistry ran high from the first time they met, their backgrounds although similar made them the people they are now…..the question is can Taxi want the home, the family, the love that Stone has to offer?

Absolutely five gold stars and probably a reread sooner than later. By the way the male model cover…….100% YES it was the right pick!

This story was really sweet & intriguing. And I was really invested in these two & their happy. It made me swoon, pause, think, giggle, shed some tears, get mad, want to fight, and think maybe I like baseball after all. Such a pleasant & enjoyable read.

Taxi is an urban artist.

Stone is a small town sheriff.

They meet at a hotel. Then again at a bar. They walk back to the hotel together. There is some flirting, heat and attraction. A kiss is shared but nothing else. They haunt each other's memories for months until their paths cross again - at his home. Cue. The. Drama. *happy squeal*

Taxi is a woman who had a rough childhood and doesn't stay anywhere too long. Wings are safer than roots. And then she meets this guy, experiences these moments that make her think maybe roots wouldn't be so bad. It is very confusing for her. Plus there are some concerns with his job given her history and the reality of how people in his role view people who look like her. Taxi's journey is not easy and she goes through a lot. I really enjoyed her energy & her heart. She cares so deeply and deserves the best. I loved watching her find a place, a home.

Stone is a man who raised his siblings when his dad decided it was too much for him. He has carried a lot over the years and has experienced a lot of loss. He has watched all his siblings find their person and is scared he won't get that, even though he really wants it. He is a good man with a kind heart who loves his people with abandon. I loved watching him begin his journey of recognizing his privilege. It is so important. And I loved watching him find love.

There are some complicated relationships in this story (his bestie did steal & knock up his girlfriend and then start dating his sister) and a lot of big emotions. And there are conversations regarding race and policing that (if you are a complexion like mine) I would recommend sitting with & really hearing before reacting.

I received this book as an ARC and am beyond grateful. This had zero impact on my review.

🚔Silver fox sheriff
🎨Wanderlust urban artist
🚔Small town
🎨One night reunite
🚔Opposites attract
🎨He's protective
🚔She's restless
🎨Eldest brother responsible for large family
🚔All the steam

Stone finally gets his HEA and I was so here for it!! 🙌💖 I might have squealed like a teenage girl I’ll never tell! After reading most of this series, it’s impossible not to appreciate the weight Stone carries as the oldest Sylver sibling. He’s the protector, anchor, steady presence. Watching him finally crack open his guarded heart and step into love? Absolute perfection.

Stone is nearing fifty and quietly wondering if maybe it’s finally his turn. Enter Tallulah… or Taxi, as she insists. Their first meeting? No names, no backstory, just a heated, unforgettable kiss in a hotel hallway that haunts them both! 🔥 Of course, a small misunderstanding keeps them apart… until Taxi comes home and realizes she’s known Stone all along. Turns out he’s her best friend’s older brother. Oops. 😬 Taxi is a free spirit who travels for work, sending Stone postcards from the road, each one a tiny tug on the heart. I found this little touch supper romantic. When a medical emergency brings her back home a year later, she’s forced to confront what staying might mean… and what a life with Stone could look like. The question is can a woman built to not chase and always run choose to stay still for love?

L.B. Dunbar writes older couples (40-ish+) like no one else, and this book is another shining example of why she’s an auto read for me. I love her take on romance how things always feel more real world if that makes sense. The slow burn is chefs kiss, the longing is delicious, and the emotional pull between Stone and Taxi absolutely sizzles. 🌶️

My favorite scene? Stargazing in the truck bed. Romantic and caused major swoons…Stone earned major book boyfriend points there for sure!

I also loved the thoughtful focus on the foster system and Aunt Trudy’s heroic dedication to helping vulnerable children. Ms. Dunbar handled it all with such dignity and grace. Add in small town charm, close communities, found family, and catching up with the rest of the Sylver siblings, and my heart was completely full.

I’m genuinely sad to see the Sterling Falls series come to an end but I can’t wait to see where L.B. Dunbar takes us next. This is a beautiful, emotionally rich story about love, timing, and choosing each other when it finally matters most. 💕📚

Stone and Tallulah “Taxi”

Tropes:
* Small town romance
* Second chance
* Finding home
* Coming home
* Found family
* The one that got away
* Friends to lovers
* BWWM
* Silver fox
* Midlife (in their 40’s)

Triggers/content warning:
Potential spoilers for other books…
Loss of parent during childbirth, abusive parents, parentifying children, incarcerated parent, mentions of murder, drug use/distribution, heart attack, child runs away, racism/bigotry.
Cheating - not MMC/FMC, but plays a factor in their immediate relationships.

Stone and Taxi meet by chance, and bond over a blue alien… (I loved that). They have a night together (share a kiss), but then a major misunderstanding separates them.
A few months later, urban astist Taxi gets a call to say her aunt is in the hospital, and she returns to her hometown, not knowing that Stone is the Sheriff.
Now… the story doesn’t start her - still some issues/angst, and it takes over a year for us to truly get to their story….

I love their nicknames for each other, they were gorgeous together. So much chemistry and tension, but also so much hurt in their past.
I mean, the betrayal form a best friend who throws away over 20 years of history, cheating,
both had horrible parents growing up. I actually didn’t mind the push-pull in this because of their histories.

On a side note… potential spoiler here….

But the inching towards forgiveness …. Nah GTFOH… I’m petty, and I would snub that MF for the rest of my life.

This story was heartwarming, yet devastating at times. It flowed really well, and Stone??? He’s one of my favourite MMC’s ever - he’s so loyal, protective, giving, and it doesn’t hurt that he’s an absolute silver fox.

Thank you L.B. Dunbar for the advance copy.

L.B. Dunbar has always been one of my go-to authors when I want a story that feels indulgent in the best way. Her voice is unmistakable, her characters unforgettable, and her silver fox heroes never disappoint. Saying goodbye to the Sylver family is bittersweet, but if any book could bring the series to a satisfying close, this is it.

Stone Sylver has always been the backbone of his family—the one who stepped up, held everyone together, and made sure his siblings were protected and supported. While they all found their happily ever after, Stone remained on the sidelines, carrying the weight of responsibility and putting his own heart on hold. His story needed the right woman, one strong enough to meet him where he is and patient enough to break through his carefully guarded walls.

Taxi is a free spirit in every sense of the word. An artist who travels wherever her work takes her, she paints her way through different towns, never lingering too long in one place. Her life is built on movement, creativity, and freedom—and she’s exactly where she wants to be.

When Taxi and Stone cross paths, the connection is immediate, but timing refuses to cooperate. Their paths separate, opportunities are missed, and yet fate keeps pulling them back into each other’s orbit—sometimes in the most unexpected ways. As Taxi continues her travels and their contact remains sporadic, what begins as a lingering curiosity slowly transforms into something deeper and impossible to ignore.

This book is a beautiful, grounded romance between two mature adults who carry real-life experiences, scars, and responsibilities. The relationship unfolds naturally, with no rushed moments, allowing emotions to build in a way that feels honest and earned. The pacing is thoughtful, the family moments are heartfelt, and longtime readers are given the gift of spending meaningful time with the Sylvers one last time.

Thank you to the author for the advanced copy. This is my voluntary review.

The wind of fate blows everywhere, some shelter in place, some like autumn leaves blow with it. This is the love story between a grounded man and a free spirit, untethered dreamer artist. It’s very difficult to see their paths converging, but Dunbar shows us that their intense connection makes him wrap his heavy arms around her to catch and plant her in Sterling falls.
Stone is the eldest of the Sylver clan, put his dreams and ambitions on hold to take care of his six siblings like a father. Now the last one leaves his house with his best freeing and the emptiness screams at him. An accidental bump into a quirky artist fills his dreary life with a burst of color . Tallulah “Taxi” Alexander is going to be his reason for the flutters of the heart. She has her own baggage of younger sisters and an ailing foster mom Trudy Wallace too

“ I don’t need a man, but I want one. That blue to my red that makes purple. A brick where I’m sand. A breeze that won’t blow me away but collect the seeds of me. An everlasting love,”

The system of fostering is a major highlight of the book. Trudy is the saviour who becomes the pillar of the society, saving so many young lives, giving them safe space. I loved her characters so much. We need more Trudys in this world for sure
While the love story continues, there’s so much going on in the periphery. The clan is growing, sisters are clashing, Simon feels unwanted, the thread that ties them all together is kinship and loyalty. Prompting Taxi to make a life altering decision.

“The wind blows and a flag flaps around, holding onto the pole for dear life.”

This hope-filled story is LIFE !! Reflecting real life characters, maybe like you & me. And I always say, Dunbar’s unparalleled acute insight into life problems in silver years makes her a remarkable storyteller. Anybody and everybody is writing 20, 30 year olds in cheesy, formulaic romances. It takes an author of true integrity and acumen to notice and pen down struggles of people over 40. I’ve been her devout fan and continue to be so, not only because she writes from the heart, but she’s also a warm human being . It’s such a joy reading her words.

This book felt like slipping into a quiet moment you didn’t know you were starving for.

Sterling Stone is soft and steady and achingly romantic in that small town, big heart way that sneaks up on you. Stone Sylver is the kind of hero who doesn’t need to announce himself. He just shows up. Protective. Grounded. Carrying the weight of responsibility like it’s second nature. Sheriff. Caretaker. Silent strength with a pulse of longing underneath it all. And those blue eyes? Yeah. They see you.

Taxi is everything I love in a heroine. Wanderlust baked into her bones. Guarded. Curious. Afraid of roots because roots mean staying and staying means risk. Their first meeting is pure magic. Awkward. Sweet. A hallway collision, a shared cupcake, a single kiss that somehow carries more emotion than entire chapters of other books. That moment alone hooked me.

What I loved most is how this story unfolds gently. No rush. No forced drama. Just two people circling each other, learning what home really means. Watching Taxi slowly realize that maybe the future doesn’t have to be scary if the right man is standing there asking you to stay absolutely wrecked me in the best way.

The small town vibes are perfection. Sterling Falls feels alive, familiar, and safe. The kind of place that wraps around you and whispers you belong here. And Stone? He is Sterling Falls. Steady. Loyal. Waiting.

The Taxi and Stone story was beautiful. Tender. Emotional without being loud. Romantic without being flashy. It’s about timing and choice and the quiet courage it takes to build a life with someone when you’ve always been ready to run.

I finished this book with a full heart, a little ache, and a serious book hangover. If you love soft heroes, meaningful connection, and love stories that feel real and earned, do not miss this one. I would happily revisit Sterling Falls again and again. 💙📖

💕 Stone Sylver—the fiercely protective matriarch of the Sylver family—finally gets his much-deserved story, and LB absolutely saved the best for last. Stone is the ultimate sexy silver fox: a small-town sheriff who stepped up at a young age to raise his six younger siblings, putting his own wants and dreams firmly on the back burner. He’s lived a life defined by duty and sacrifice, always being the strong, steady presence for everyone else while quietly denying himself the chance to have that one person who could truly soothe his soul.
Now that his siblings are grown and happily paired off, Stone finally allows himself to want more. One kiss with a mysterious woman is all it takes for him to feel it deep in his bones—this might finally be his time. And just when you think fate couldn’t possibly be that clever, his mystery woman shows up in Sterling Falls, far closer to home than either of them ever expected.
Taxi is the perfect contrast to Stone. A free-spirited, talented artist, she lives her life on the move, following inspiration wherever it leads her and refusing to be tied down. Settling in one place—especially with a man like Stone—is the last thing she plans on doing. But Stone isn’t asking her to change who she is; he simply wants her to see the real him, the man behind the badge and the responsibilities. Resisting his quiet strength, patience, and undeniable chemistry proves impossible, and it doesn’t take long before their connection turns intensely passionate.
This story is filled with emotion, longing, healing, and beautifully earned love. Watching Stone finally put himself first was deeply satisfying, and Taxi was the perfect woman to challenge and complement him. A heartwarming, emotional, and swoony read, this book was the perfect conclusion to an incredible series—one that I didn’t want to say goodbye to. 💕

Stone Sylver is the perfect hero.

Stone Sylver, the oldest Sibling of the Sylver clan, completely captivated me, and I couldn’t put this book down. He’s the perfect hero. I think everyone should get to experience a man who is loyal, honorable, sweet, loving, protective, and an incredible big brother. While not everything in Stone’s world was easy or even nice, he made everyone around him feel loved and cared for. He’s the type of person who won’t stop until he’s done everything he can to make things right. He’s steady, solid, and a homebody. But how about himself? Who is there to take care of Stone? Tallulah “Taxi” Alexander didn’t think it would be her, but you never know where life will take you. She’s an artist and free spirit - living out of her VW van and traveling from job to job, never settling down. How could someone so settled and someone so untethered be right for each other?

L. B. Dunbar knows how to write superior relationships, and the emotion, longing, and angst that come from Stone and Taxi kept me riveted to their story. The slow burn and obstacles they encounter keep them apart, but it’s the undeniable pull toward each other that makes their story sizzle. I loved the focus on the foster system and Taxi’s aunt Trudy’s heroic efforts to help as many children as she can. Ms. Dunbar handled it with dignity and grace. I also enjoyed catching up with the rest of the Sylver siblings. Close communities, small towns, and found family are some of my favorite themes, and I loved how everyone came together and helped when the need arose. This is a great read for people who want a story with emotional depth and meaningful relationships. I’m sorry to see the Sterling Falls series come to an end; however, I’m excited to see where Ms. Dunbar brings us next.

Guys, please don't judge - where the heck have I been!? And how come, I totally came to this series for the first time with this, the final book in the Sterling Falls series.

When I picked this up, I honestly was so excited assuming it was a new series by an author I've read before.

Argh!!!

Ok, so as much as I hate to read books out of order, I knew that this would still read fine given it's a small town romance and this genre usually follows different couples within the same small town.

So, ok, I definitely felt like I'd missed out on the development of the setting and it's community - but I was also so sad and aware that I have come into this series where we're following a couple where Stone our MMC is the final sibling in the same family.

Yes, we do see a fair amount and hear much backstory for Stone and the other characters who have each already had their own story - but you know, it actually wasn't all bad news at all!

I focused in on our couple, Stone and Taxi and their own history and loved watching their story unfold.

From what I could tell, Stone has always put everyone else first and it was so lovely to see him finally get his own HEA.

I loved that this book totally got me in my feels and took me on an emotional rollercoaster (even not having had the full build up to this point!)

I love this author's writing style which just drew me in from the start and had me racing through the pages to find out how this would all play out.

The characters were so compelling and I grew to love them so much.

I will absolutely be going back to the start of this series and reading through - rereading Stone's story again to see if it hits different next time - but I honestly ate this up and loved every second!

Sterling Stone (Sterling Falls Book 7) by L. B. Dunbar is the final romance story about the oldest Sylver brother, Sheriff Stone Sylver, and Talluha (Taxi), a painter and Judd’s childhood friend from Tennessee whom he met by chance while visiting a friend. They connected after a chance meeting in their hotel hallway and again in the hotel bar, ending with a passionate kiss, but neither knew the other’s name when they each continued on with their lives the next day. Their next meeting was at the Sylver family’s home, where a baseball game and picnic with family and friends was the day’s plan. Taxi acted as if she never knew Stone and tried to ignore him as long as possible. Stone and Taxi’s lives became intertwined because of Trudy Wallace, Stone’s mother’s good friend before she passed away, and Trudy being Taxi’s aunt. Taxi leaves to pursue her passion as a free-spirited painter, traveling wherever the wind takes her, but she mails Stone postcards of her adventures. They don’t see each other for a year until Trudy ends up hospitalized with a heart attack. With Taxi back home, Stone remains her steady support. As she reevaluates her life and considers her future—whether she wants a relationship with Stone or to live in her revamped van-turned-home-on-wheels—she faces her options. Stone wants Taxi in his life long-term; she already lives in his heart, but will she stay once her Aunt Tracey recovers? Family, the Sterlets, and friends are all involved enough in Stone and Taxi’s lives to influence their decisions. L.B. Dunbar delivers another heartfelt romance that concludes the Sterling Falls series, linking it to the next series set in Rogue River and the romances of the Haven family, which readers are eager to explore in the coming months.

So many thoughts and they are all so jumbled in my mind. Sterling Stone was the best tribute to the entire Sterling Falls series while also being a beautiful story for Stone and Taxi. I am in awe.

I read the earlier books and Stone has been this hot mysterious pillar of the family that sort of hovers on the edges of everyone's life but seems somehow unfulfilled until we get to meet him and he of course meets Taxi. Their meet cute in another town then the subsequent 2nd meeting back in town was a delicious way to get thing started. I love the way the author gives them time and space for their complicated feelings to grow. I love the way Stone is almost single minded in his pursuit of Taxi and also super protective of her peace. He is nothing if not a caretaker who wraps himself protectively around the people he loves. I enjoyed reading how Taxi and he, seemingly opposites found common ground and created something special. Stone's story breaks my heart but it also puts it back together which is honestly what the best romance books do. Taxi was his perfect match. I love how she grows through the story by opening her eyes to the idea that she might not be right about what she thought she wanted. I love her story arc in this book and love her for Stone.

The story made me laugh and cry and feel happy and sad and happy. I would highly recommend this book and series to anyone looking for a silver fox to make their day better.

-- 40+ yrs old
-- opposites attract
-- small town
-- second chance
-- big family
-- he falls first
-- protective
-- sheriff / traveling artist
-- steamy!

Sterling Stone honestly felt like the book this series was always building toward. Stone has been there from the start, quietly holding everything together, so finally getting his story hit me right in the feelings.

Stone is one of those characters who’s spent his whole life taking care of everyone else. He raised his siblings, looks out for his town, and never really stopped to think about what he might want for himself. There’s this loneliness to him that never turns dramatic, but it’s always there, and it made me want him to get his happiness so badly. Taxi ended up being a really great match for him. She’s creative, restless, and shaped by a past that taught her not to stay anywhere too long. I liked that their relationship didn’t rush things. They meet, miss each other, circle back, and slowly figure things out. It felt very natural, and as someone in their 40s, that's what I'm yearning for when reading about two people at the same stage in life.

I honestly loved how mature the whole story felt. There’s no pointless drama. It's just two adults with baggage, responsibilities, and fears trying to decide if love is worth the risk. Stone’s gentleness, protectiveness, and devotion made him such a solid MMC, and seeing Taxi come to terms with the idea of staying was wonderful.

The Sylver family moments were such a comfort, and spending time with everyone again felt like the right kind of goodbye. There’s closure here, but it doesn’t feel forced. Stone's happily ever after was a soft and emotional slow burn that was a really solid way to wrap up the series. It was such a lovely read!

Stone and Taxi were so cute! Their love story was so heartfelt, emotional and romantic. Loved their journey so much.

Stone is an all time green flag hero! The way he kept his promise to always be there for her. I absolutely melted when he promised to be her safe place *sigh* Loved him completely. This man can literally do no wrong.

I I get that Taxi was dealing with her trust issues and childhood trauma but the way I wanted to talk some sense into her at every turn was crazy!!

So happy these two finally talked and got to be happy together.

If you like close knit families, wholesome small town life and mature MCs, Stone and Taxi’s story is a must read. This is the final book of this series but I read it as a standalone and it totally worked. There a lot of side characters (siblings alone were 7!) but intros were enough info to fill you in but not overwhelm you. Highly recommend!!

A fantastically written book, it just didn't hold my interest.

Stone is the oldest of the Sylver siblings, and at nearing fifty, thinks it may be his turn to find his happy ending. Enter Tallulah, or Taxi as she likes to be called. Only, when they first meet, no names are exchanged, only a heated kiss. But a small misunderstanding seems to keep them apart, that is, until Taxi comes home and finds she may have known Stone all along, as she was best friends with his younger brother. But Taxi's a free spirit and travels for her work, sending postcards back to Stone with what she's working on. A year later, Taxi's aunt has a medical emergency that brings her back, and Taxi gets a taste of what staying means and what a life with Stone could look like. But is that enough for her?

Stone and Taxi get their happy ending in this standalone book in a series.

This is the first book in this series that I've read, but I've read other works by this author and loved them. This is a really slow burn before really getting into the story of Stone and Taxi, and I feel that could have been some of what was holding me back from having this be a five-star book. I get that was part of Taxi's backstory and part of her character arc, but also, I wanted to start seeing them together more and not just alone. I will say, once they were in the same town, their relationship was still a slow burn, but knowing they were teasing each other and together was more of a payoff, at least for me.

I received an advance review copy from Hambright PR, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

This was my first read by L.B. Dunbar, and I’m officially hooked, I now need to read about all of the Sylver siblings. This was such an easy read and it pulled me in from the first page.

Stone and Taxi meet by chance and share a brief but meaningful connection before a misunderstanding sends them in different directions. Months later, Taxi returns to her hometown for family reasons, only to discover that the man she met by chance, is Stone the town sheriff and long time family friend. What follows is a slow, emotional journey as they navigate past hurts, timing, and the fear of letting someone truly in.

Stone has spent his life putting everyone else first, and it was heartbreaking to see how much he longed to be chosen. Taxi, always on the move, protects herself by keeping her distance. Their chemistry, quiet understanding, and emotional growth made their story feel authentic and deeply satisfying.
This was a gentle, slow-burn romance with no unnecessary third-act breakup, strong found-family themes, and a cozy small-town setting. Heartwarming at times and emotional at others, it flowed beautifully and left me feeling content by the end. A lovely read for fans of mature romance, healing, and second chances.

Triggers / Content Warnings:
Loss of a parent, abusive parents, parentification, incarceration, mentions of murder and drug use, heart attack, racism/bigotry.
Cheating (not between the MMC/FMC, but impacts surrounding relationships).

Thank you Hambright PR for the opportunity to early read and review. Looking forward to catch up on the Sylver siblings.
