“There’s action, danger, and tension, but also softness, hope, and cozy moments that sneak up and wrap around your heart like a blanket.” – Goodreads Review of BLOOD ON THE TAIGA

How can an invisible girl hope to be seen by the one person who matters most?

Lusa is a duster, a half Inuit, half tariaksuq shadow person, gifted with unparalleled stealth yet cursed to disappear when anyone looks her way. That’s until she met Res, a flamboyant duster magical performer who can see through illusions. Having friendship for the first time in her life, Lusa is inspired to dream bigger than being a petty pickpocket.

When renowned archivist Theodore Avialian hires them to steal the birds of truth from a legendary dragon, Lusa seizes the chance to change her fate. But when Lusa and Res become trapped in the dragon’s vast underground maze guarded by mythical giants, dangerous alchemy, and unexpected complications from Res’s past, theft becomes survival. As the stakes rise and sparks fly between Lusa and her best friend, she’ll have to risk more than her life—she’ll have to risk her heart. Because being truly seen by someone might be the greatest treasure of all, if she can survive long enough to claim it.

In a world of illusions and shadows, will love shine bright enough to bring Lusa out of the darkness, or will she fade away before anyone can truly see her?

First let me say hands down this is a great book and E. Anders is an amazing writer! She writes incredibly well and her world building and characters are well thought through, complex and fleshed out, but also easy to follow. Not so easy! Feathers of Trials and Truths is book 1 of this series BUT technically is book 3 for the entire Earthen Calamities series as a whole. I’ve already started reading the first book of the series called Blood on the Taiga. This is where you get a sense of the background and understanding about how the world is currently viewed being multi post-apocalyptic when suddenly the world is full of mythical and magical beings. Again I’m loving this series so far and planning on buying the 2nd book to continue on.

Anyways Feather of Trials and Truths follows Lusa who’s half Inuit and half Tariaksuq (shadow/invisible powers), her best friend Res (part Quetzalcoatl), along with Wags (a Tsukumogami wagon from Japanese folklore), and Tick (he’s just a cat). They’ve been enlisted to help and need to steal a mythical bird of truth from a vast cavern of treasure from a hoarding dragon. This whirlwind adventure is filled with laughs and tears and you can’t help but put yourself into this story and live it. The ending isn’t a cliffhanger but it’s definitely a lead into a book two as well as tying into the first two books in the Earthen Calamities series.

This book is out now so check out E. Anders and dive into this series! She definitely needs more hype because she’s a hidden gem of an author and I can’t wait to read more of her stories!

This fantasy adventure stole my heart without breaking it and I am in love! I need a 6 ⭐ option.

I was lucky enough to be an ARC reader for this book and I was hooked from the first chapter. First and foremost, this is an excellent fantasy adventure set in our own world after an almost apocalyptic magical event. The premise of the world allows for almost limitless possibilities which is thrilling to work through as a reader.

The romance added to the story is the cherry on top. These 2 characters are so loveable. The growth of their love from the deepest friendship is amazing to watch as they work through some absolutely horrible situations. I love seeing a healthy positive love story in romantasy. I know the possessive MMC has been all the rage recently, but Res beats them all in my book.

If you are a person who loves fantasy first with a bonus of romance this is an excellent read. I can't believe that I hadn't heard of E Anders as an author until now. I will be going back to read the other books in her Calamities series as soon as possible.

Thank you to the author for providing me with a copy of the book. I am excited to leave a review.

The involvement of Inuit mythology gave the plot an interesting twist. Lusa is an intriguing character as her magic makes her invisible when people look at her which lends to interesting plot twists and relationships between characters. Res lends a light-hearted nature to the book while also dealing with his own issues.

The plot was intriguing, especially as you delve into Lusa and Res’s time under the mountain and new characters are introduced and you learn more about their histories and the treasure under the mountain. I will gladly read more in this world.

This book was a really fast read for me. I thoroughly enjoyed it. The world building was interesting; a post-apocalypses Earth which created magic and eternal beings. I loved the idea that the main character, Lusa, could mostly remain unseen except by her best friend and love interest, Res. Their story was so adorable, to the point that I was kicking my feet and snorting with Lusa during some of their scenes. I’ll be really interested to see where E Anders takes the next 2 books. Totally recommend!

Convenience or possibility? This story seems truly unique: it is the first time I have read about creatures that transform into multiple forms and are able to have extraordinary magical powers. Lusa herself is a hybrid between a human and a shadow, her heart is in the right place and she does not stop at appearances. I really enjoyed the plot and I root for the characters to overcome their difficulties. The author puts a lot of effort into describing in great detail the dilemma that the characters face, but sometimes she goes on a bit too long and makes me lose concentration. This book is recommended for a young audience who loves fantasy and unique powers.

Wow! A fantastic story in book 1 of The Acquisitionist series by E. Anders.I was definitely blown away from the first page until the very last word. There is adventure, mystery, danger, and magic at every turn of the pages. I love the main characters, Res and Lusa. They are well developed, likable, and engaging. Their growth throughout the story is wonderful with more room to grow in future books. E. Anders has a beautiful way of blending her world building creatively and magically throughout her story! I can't wait to read the next book! Highly recommended!
