For fans of Eat Pray Love and The Midnight Library, a journey of awakening wrapped in an electrifying adventure.
What if the path you’re on is leading you away from who you’re meant to be?

Soul Toll is a heart-opening and motivational story about waking up, fighting back, and remembering who you were before the world told you who to be.

“I was completely immersed—the story is so well written, it felt like a hug for my soul that I didn’t know I needed.”
—Jennifer Riggs, Author of The Ripple Squad (United States)

“I am looking forward to the film…”
—Sian O’Neill, Managing Director, Globe Law and Business (United Kingdom)

“For anyone feeling stuck, questioning, or searching—this is your invitation to wake up.
—Anna Lozynski, Fractional General Counsel and Yogi (Australia)

★ "In this genre where magic often overshadows meaning, Soul Toll delivers both—brilliantly. The novel blends current reality with the surreal in a way that feels revelatory."
—Andrea Hurst, President of Andrea Hurst Literary Management (United States)

Ember Brooke is sharp, ambitious, and determined to climb the ranks at her prestigious law firm. But beneath the polished surface, something is unraveling—an inner pull toward spiritual awakening she can’t ignore.

A chance encounter with her mother’s old yoga mat pulls Ember into Resonance—a hidden world where she uncovers a disturbing her parents’ relentless pursuit of success wasn't just ambition, it was engineered.

With an unlikely but unbreakable team by her side, Ember must confront more than the ruthless industry titan NP Dunn to dismantle a powerful empire—she must face the forces inside that keep her tethered to the life she thought she wanted.

As Ember begins her journey of personal transformation, she must decide what success really means and whether she’s willing to trade comfort for freedom.

Set in a vivid, emotionally rich landscape, Soul Toll blends contemporary fantasy with meaning, inviting readers into a story of self-discovery through fiction.

Soul Toll does not in any way read like a debut novel. The book does not easily fit into any genre box, but rather several from fantasy to self help. Without in any way being preachy, Soul Toll is both an extremely enjoyable read and pleasantly life affirming. You do not need to have anything in common with the characters in order to feel a distinct empathy with them because they feel real. If you pick up this book, you will finish it and you will likely feel much better after.

A quest of resilience and discovery this book feels like a mix of big law, Harry Potter and Glastonbury. I’m looking forward to the film version as it is a very visual read.

Soul Toll is the work of a writer with a finely tuned imagination and an uncommon grasp of how our working lives connect with inner expression and emotion (shaped by her own distinguished career as in the legal industry).

Ember, the central character, is beautifully drawn. Her evolution - in mind and soul - will speak to a wide range of readers. The story traces the rough ground she has to cross to retrieve her purpose and her “light.”

Most of us glimpse our own light at some point - maybe only in childhood. Saving it from extinction in this world is not easy. Gillespie’s story reminds us why we try.

Soul Toll is the kind of story that finds you when you did not even know you were lost. It is raw, beautiful, and quietly powerful, leaving you with the feeling that it is never too late to break free from what the world says you should be. This book is for the part of you that is tired and ready for change. Turn the first page and start your journey.

Soul Toll is a beautifully written novel that explores profound themes of self-discovery and the search for meaning in a world obsessed with success. Anusia's evocative style creates a vivid and immersive experience for the reader. However, the density of descriptive passages can slow the pace, requiring a patient reader to fully appreciate the story's nuances. Despite these moments, Soul Toll is a thought-provoking exploration of internal conflict and the power of connection, making it a worthwhile read for those who enjoy stories with a strong philosophical perspective.

Two things:
1. The author’s detailed writing style paints pictures in your mind; one picture linked to the next to tell an adventurous tale with an underlying story that leaves one thinking about who you are and how you hold and make meaning of your allotted time here.
2. The book is handily written in 53 short chapters so you can read a few, put it down, and then pick it back up and immediately be back in the story. I read it at work during breaks and while waiting for return emails and calls…also perfect for plane and train rides.

A quick and easy read for anyone looking for a cozy coming-of-age story! I loved the found family aspects throughout, and any book with a pup in it gets an instant yes from me.

Soul Toll is a haunting, beautifully written exploration of self-discovery and the choices that define us. The author’s descriptions transport you to Resonance, a world so vivid it feels alive—both strange and eerily familiar. Beneath the imagery lies a powerful message: the struggle between society’s seductions and the quiet truth of staying true to yourself.

The story doesn’t shy away from showing us the shadows—the corruption, illusions, and costs of giving in to temptation. Yet through it all, it guides you to trust your own inner light. The question at its core lingers: Would you take the soul toll?

Rich, thought-provoking, and deeply atmospheric, this book left me eager for the journey to continue. I’m excited to see where the author leads us next.
