War is coming to New York. Nathan Shepherd’s growing band of followers is dedicated to protecting the city, but they now face their greatest threat.
Athamar returns, plunging the city into chaos. Uniting the forces of darkness against Nathan and his allies, Athamar strives to discover a secret hidden for thousands of years. A secret lost to Nathan’s memories. Something so dangerous, even the gods themselves fear it.
Nathan and Elena were once the greatest of heroes, champions against evil. Now, haunted by Nathan’s past-life betrayal, they must work together and brave the pain of long-buried lifetimes. Somewhere, locked within their former incarnations, lies the key to stopping Athamar, an enemy who has hunted them from one incarnation to the next.
As the city burns and innocents suffer, as heroes fall and hope dies, Nathan and Elena face their final battle, a battle where legends will be reborn.
A child at heart who turned to writing and roleplaying games when there simply weren’t enough action figures to play out the stories he wanted, Paul Anthony Shortt has been writing all his life.
He believes in magic and monsters. In ghosts and fairies. The creatures that lurk under the bed and inside the closet. The things that live in the dark, and the heroes who stand against them. Above all, he believes that stories have the power to change the world, and the most important stories are the ones which show that monsters can be beaten.
He lives in Ireland with his wife Jen and their dogs, Pepper and Jasper. Their first child, Conor William Henry Shortt, was born on July 11th, 2011. He passed away three days later, but brought love and joy into their lives and those of their friends.
The following year, Jen gave birth to twins, Amy and Erica. Their fourth child, Olivia, was born in January, 2014.
Memory War does everything a fantastic third novel should do in a trilogy - Revelation, redemption, and resolution in the most satisfying of ways!
Nathan Shepherd is doing all he can to prevent a war, but it proves more than difficult when his soul mate of countless lifetimes is upset at him for past crimes, not to mention his best friend-turned worst enemy Athamar acts as a bloody thorn in the hero's side the entire ride of the book.
The story hits the ground running, seeing Nathan act as a secret agent trying to save a government official. The outcome will propel him and his team into a wild roller coast of action, heartache, and strain all building to a wonderful final act of the novel. Revelations are made as we dive deeper into Nathan(and Keros)'s past than ever before, back to the beginning!
The heart of the novel, and in fact the entire series, are in the characters and their relationships, especially between Nathan, Elena, and Athamar. Paul does a wonderful job in creating sympathetic characters. Every one of them has their successes and failures. All of them have something to gain and something to lose. Paul's talent shines whether he's writing these characters in engaging action scenes, speaking with witty and intelligent dialogue, or in imaginative historical settings. If you enjoy urban fantasy and you've yet to read the Memory Wars Trilogy, then you're doing yourself a disservice.
I thoroughly enjoyed Memory War and the two books that led to it. I'll miss Nathan's journey now that it's over, but I feel good knowing Paul's writing will continue!
So this book has a pretty complex story line, but it is good, there is the good guys, the bad guys, the REALLY bad guys, and the okay kinda good guys turned bad guys turned good guys. Yes I am looking at you Roland. This book has all the important aspects of any good paranormal book, vampires, reverents, wizards, corrupt politicians, and death.
Without reading the first two I can not tell you if the writing has gotten better throughout the series, but the writing was good in the third one. This book has strong writing with strong characters and a strong plot.
This is a really interesting take on reincarnation and I find it very interesting. In it you remember your past clearly as long as your death was not overly painful or if someone performed a semi ritual that caused past memories to be locked away, or are they? Yes there is some intrigue when it comes past lives and how they are impacted in the present. As someone who believes in reincarnation this is an interesting tale and I really enjoy that there are soul mates that transcend time and relative space.
really enjoyed all three of these books and couldn't put any of them down. Nice to be able to read a set of books that was consistently good through out.
