Moss Rose is a 1934 mystery by Marjorie Bowen, written under her pen name of Joseph Shearing. It is based on the unsolved true crime murder, which was never solved of Harriet Buswell, a prostitute often known by her professional name “Clara Burton,” who was found dead in her bed at the lodging house in which she was residing at 12, Great Coram Street in 1872. The murder became known as "The Great Coram Street Mystery". A Dr. Gottfried Hessel was arrested for the murder; he was acquitted, but Bowen in her tale finds him guilty and weaves a romance which goes far beyond fact. The title refers to Moss Rose, a flowering plant.
