Overall, I really enjoyed The Harvest. The basis of the story line was great. I was sucked in from the start, with the scene descriptions being quite vivid. Each character is introduced in the starting chapters. Each has an interesting and complex story behind them however I felt this was one of the downfalls of the story. Scenes and timelines moved quickly however at times I felt a bit too quick. There were so many opportunities for so much more.
I felt The Harvest was just missing something but I cannot put my finger on what it is. When reading, I was immersed in the story and the characters and thoroughly enjoying it but when I put it down there was not the draw and the intrigue to what happens next. Possibly, some linking threads at the start may have been helpful? I am not sure, it just missed the mark. Having said that, would I recommend it, yes but with these caveats because I certainly feel this is a story that was enjoyable and should be shared. Likewise, I was also read more books in this series to find out what happens to the characters as I did grow to like them.
There were also quite a few grammar mistakes. Some more proof reading would be good. Three stars from me, based on the grammar issues and it is missing that something (possibly more compelling writing, joining threads earlier on and depth in the story).
