Manhattan medium Thomas John has been hailed as "the Hollywood psychic with the highest batting average" by The Hollywood Reporter , and as a psychic medium with "an impressive connection that impresses even the most skeptical minds" by TheExaminer.com . Now he shares what he's seen and heard on the Other Side. In this book, John shares with us fifteen fascinating stories of what happens when clients ask him to contact their dead friends and relatives. Included here are the story of a 30-something New Yorker who was unable to stop fantasizing about suicide until he conveys healing words from her dead fiancé; an account of an encounter with a grieving young woman in a drugstore--and the message he conveys from her dead six-year-old son; and a disturbing story of an unsolved murder case solved by information he received from the other side. Above all, this is a book filled with comfort, love, forgiveness, and hope. For Thomas John, death is not the end, it is just the beginning. Our friends and relatives are still with us. They care for us. They watch over us. And, in times of particular need, they offer us their help.
Short and dirty- the stories wrapped up too easily with little bows. I didn't believe Personal stories of his encounters with passed souls and their living connections. Interesting and revealing, he takes us inside his head to see how these spirits come to him,. How he unwinds their tangles and moves the participants on both sides of the life line into the next phase. It was heartwarming and heartbreaking, but seemed honest. 15 stories that come from his files, told in a direct and revealing way. Do I believe him ? Can he talk to the other side ? I don’t know, I don’t know if I’d ever believe anyone if I didn’t experience it myself. I’m not sold on his ability, but I don’t need to be. He does no harm and he leaves people feeling better and connected. It was an interesting read, but I don’t think I’ll continue to follow his books in the future.
First of all for me to read a book like this it took a lot it is not that i do not believe that someone could be extremely sensitive to all energies ( worldly and etheral) but most from what i've seen are frauds. For some reason I did not get that from this book the stories were interesting and realistic and his style of reading people seemed genuine I am not a complete believer but it did make me think and I would like to see how this guy works I found this book pretty entertaining and interesting
I really enjoyed this book. I found it comforting and calming. I started the book with an open mind, not knowing if I'd believe the author was actually communicating with the spirit world. It didn't take long to convince me. His stories are genuine and heartwarming. I received an advance reader's copy of this book from Netgalley.com
I would love to spend some time with Thomas John. We lost our beautiful 17 year old grandson a month ago. I bought this book after seeing Mr. John on The Doctors television show. I have been been skeptical about mediums in the past but I found this book comforting. It was very interesting and I certainly got my money's worth and I would buy it again.
My mom made me read this book since I am into the whole Supernatural world and I believe it myself. I had never heard of this medium before, so I was interested and completely unbiased while reading.
He sounds like an amazing medium if you want to talk to the dead. Almost too good to be true. However, if his abilities are this good, I really want to do a reading with him as well. There are a couple dead people I know that I would like to try and connect with again to see if they have any messages for me. Honestly, I would rather go to one of his live shows with a huge group of people.
What I really liked about this is that he was honest while telling the stories. He's had moments of doubt in his ability and even moments of doubt about the dead people he was talking to. It was nice that someone like him even has doubts.
The stories where fun and interesting. However, they started getting repetitive for a while. Same message "don't argue with the dead". It was getting annoying and boring. However, he seemed to change tune and shift the stories a little bit and share different types of stories. I loved when he shared stories of total skeptics and how they fought him and then realized that there is NO WAY he can know some of this information about a dead loved one. I would honestly be a little freaked out.
I should go on YouTube and see I can find any of his live shows. I am curious.
In the end, this was an interesting read. It has certainly made me interested in learning more about him and his gift. Yes, I am a total believer that there is another side, I've experienced it first-hand. Throughout the book I felt like he was too good to be true, but you never know. He seems like a humble guy, so he doesn't seem to want to exploit himself and be live Sylvia Browne. I must research more about him. I recommend this for others who may be believers and even a skeptic. Out of five stars, I stamp this with 3 stars.
meh. Honestly when I read the summary of this book, I had some high expectations. I was a tad disappointed with the final outcome though.
I did listen to this on audio, so maybe that took away from the overall execution of the book in some way, but i doubt it.
Another review put it into words well. They said - "the stories wrapped up too easily with little bows" ... And man are they right. While whether I believe in mediums / spirits / etc doesn't take away from the book in any way, these stories felt a tad unbelievable at times which how the author made them all sound so... conveniently easy I suppose? I'm sure I'm not putting this into words correctly, but that's the gist of it.
Either way, I believe the author gives a lot of people some peace of mind, and that's fantastic. Would I read the book again? Probably not.
The title caught my eye, and I hoped it would be different than other books of this genre. And I was sadly disappointed. The stories were good, the descriptions of what he's feeling while doing readings, etc, telling about his skills - all good and fine. But in every story he needed to be "preachy" with it? Here's a good assumption. Most people reading these books are intelligent. They tend to be believers already. Tell about yourself in the first chapter, and from then out, tell the story and how it made you feel - but leave the rest alone.
My example - about the couple at the party, and the mom who ate chocolate and champagne every day after dinner. When leaving with the friend, ending with that whole bit about your friend having eaten chocolate and champagne at the party would have been a great end.
What could have been really good stories got ruined for me because I felt preached at and "schooled" in every chapter. The book would have been better without it, or with a summation at the end of the book.
It gets two stars instead of one because his storytelling style is good, when he sticks with telling the stories.
I have read nearly every book by Mediums that I have ever come across. This one is so authentic, honest, and explains (unlike most others) how he communicates with spirits. He is not shy to talk about his emotions. Thomas John has 15 compilations of stories (to keep his guests' privacy). Each story has different scenarios in them, beyond just the readings themselves. I loved this book for his honest emotions about the ones asking for the readings as well as his own feelings and insights as he goes along. This can be a fast read, but you may like to take it leisurely. There is one incredibly hilarious little boy who follows him down aisles of a smaller store. A man swears his wife's suicide was murder. Two best friends fight over one's girlfriend, and the one young man shoots the other, then kills himself days after. They are happy and best friends in heaven. The main thread throughout each story is that the dead don't have egoes nor the ability to lie in heaven. So Thomas knows NOT TO ARGUE WITH THE SPIRITS, BECAUSE THEY ARE RIGHT. *I received a free copy of this book from NetGalley to read and give my honest review.
This book is less about the writing and more about the experiences of a psychic medium. Though I myself am a believer, sadly, I acknowledge that the world is full of fakes which have cast an unfortunate shadow over this whole subject for me. I find myself wanting to believe what is said, but always keeping a dash of doubt in my mind. With that being said, this book was an easy, fun read with, if you choose to believe, uplifting messages. Personally, even if these events did not transpire exactly as Thomas John claims they did, I am still a believer in the afterlife and communication with spirits. The story that stuck with me the most was near the end, where the woman’s husband is dead but she doesn’t yet know it. How creepy!
If you are into the supernatural, this book is worth checking out.
Thomas John has a unique gift and his book not only has wonderful stories about his private practice, and how this gift show up at any given time but also drives home the point that he's a regular person too! I can see how difficult it can be with a profession like his being asked the same questions all the time when he meets people for the first time outside his "office clients". The book is funny, entertaining, sad and most of all comforting for people who's lost someone near and dear.
I enjoyed this book that I got free in a goodreads giveaway. It will be interesting for anyone interested in the practice of mediums and communication with the dead. It is totally narrative and each chapter deals with a reading for a specific person and the lessons that the living can take from the higher consciences of those who have already passed on. According to the author we should never argue with a dead person nut should search out the lessons they have for us.
I had a short reading With Thomas that was amazing, but left me with questions. After reading this book I was able to reflect back on my short time with Thomas and gain insight into the messages that my loved ones had for me. The stories of his gift are nothing short of miraculous. You won’t be able to put this book down and perhaps you’ll get a message from a loved one or guide that you had overlooked before.
Fascinating stories, and they ring true. It's also nice to have a little explanation on what the other side might look like, the reasons for our existence here on earth, and the day in the life of being a Medium. For my own purposes, I would love to know who the editor of this book is.
Gloria Squitiro: A First Lady of Kanas City and author of May Cause Drowsiness and Blurred Vision: The Side Effects of Bravery
I enjoyed meeting Thomas and was impressed by his abilities. The way he is able to get actual names from the spirits he sees--impressive.
Each of the readings highlighted in the book is intriguing, yet the telling sometimes becomes confused and, occasionally, questions are asked but not answered.
Well written, concise. The summary at the end of the encounters seemed a bit tedious at times. If you enjoy reading of encounters - this is another good read! Enjoy! Thanks to NetGalley and Red Wheel/Weiser for the opportunity to review this book in exchange for an honest review!
Moving accounts of conversations with loved ones after they pass. I had a chance to meet the author at a Toronto event by Indigo Books a few years ago, and still remember the mini-reading he gave me while he signed books and chatted with event attendees. A rare and much appreciated opportunity.
This is a wonderful summer read. He details remarkable incidents of his readings as a gifted medium. I loved this book and reaffirms that death is not the end.
I'm sure this book would be very helpful to a reader who has no knowledge of psychics or mediumship. The stories are interesting.
Thomas John starts by telling us how good and famous he is. Okay... Also throughout the book we are reminded how spiritual he is and how many people he's helped. Dead folks even show up and nag until John gives someone-- even a stranger-- a message from the other side. Boom! Life changed-- heartbreak eased!
There are several things I disagree with Thomas John about. He says spirits are always around and communicating with him. I think probably if you can't get away from spirits and their constant communication, wouldn't you be considered mentally ill? Spirits might be there, but I certainly think live people have rights too and can say, "Hey, not now!"
Many people feel that approaching strangers and making a cold call with messages invades their privacy and crosses a line. Psychics I know are too busy living their own lives to get involved in everyone else's business. I'm sure there are exceptions, but those are rare.
I feel every message from beyond is not necessarily wise and full of love. Dead people for sure see things a little differently than we living do. So do my friends who sometimes give me advice. They might be wise and full of love, but maybe I shouldn't follow their advice because they are just plain wrong for me in that time and experience. The same is true of any message we get whether from a living or dead person. We give deceased people too much credit for being all knowing. It can be comforting to know people we (still) love are okay and that we will be with them again, but they might not have magically become smart and an expert on our problems.
While listening, I thought of the TV show, "The Mentalist." I'm certainly not saying Thomas John is a fraud. I'm sure he means well. Maybe like Patrick Jane he's just a little egotistical.
I'm not sure what exactly it is that I believe in, but I know I believe in Thomas John and what he can do. I've been reading about psychic mediums and what they can do since I was a child. My mom has been watching every TV program and reading every book of his since Crossing Over with John Edward came out in 2000. An avid reader myself, and one with limited access to the public library, (and fueled by a serious 10 year old's crush on John) I read John Edward's books over and over again. John's abilities opened my eyes to the world of psychic mediumship and set me on a path to discover Thomas John decades later. I stumbled upon Thomas and Seatbelt Psychic by chance (fate?) and within a month I had purchased "Never Argue with a Dead Person" and drove two and a half hours to attend one of Thomas' readings. "Never Argue with a Dead Person" reads exactly like I imagine coffee with Thomas would be like. The stories themselves are intriguing, yes, but the way Thomas tells the stories was really captivating. At 208 pages, I finished this book in one very enjoyable afternoon. If the topic of psychic mediumship piques your interest even a little bit, I highly recommend picking this up.
This man is a straight up con artist. He connects with people he is doing readings for on Facebook, charges $1400 an hour, and then puts off readings for months or even years. When he does do readings, they're vague or mention information that is publicly accessible from the Facebook he just connected with people on. When you bring anything up, he claims you're in a negative mindset, or not open. There have been countless negative BBB reviews, and even news articles with the New York Times about ways in which he's falsified his readings. Don't spend your good money on a book by this man, unless you're fully on board with reading fiction.
The Book gives inspiration about life after death and sometimes people cross back because of unsaid things that need be said and did not do on physical level.
So, many different stories that made me cry and I was able to connect on so many levels. Many stories, as I have experienced several occurrences than I can relate with my pass experience on relatives and pets.
I was not aware of his shows The Thomas John Experience Season 1-2020 & Seatbelt Psychic Season 1-2018. Hopefully, these are as good as his books.
