3.5 SECRET STARS

This story fluctuates between Lena's freshman year in 2011 when her family disintegrates over the Christmas Holiday break when her father leaves the family for another woman and Lena has an emotional indiscretion with her boyfriends brother, and the present, three years later when Lena returns to her hometown, for the first time since that week, for her father's wedding.

Blake Finnegan was Lena's boyfriend, who she describes as fierce. Then there's his older brother, Slade, whom Lena has an indescribable attraction to. When she goes out with a high school friend while in town for her father's wedding, she unfortunately runs into both of them, with interesting results.

I find myself fascinated by what's happening here. We have Lena who's been angry with her father for the past four years since he left his family for another woman. The woman he's marrying and the reason Lena has returned to Feyette.

Lena's not ready to run into either of the Finnegan boys, but I guess it's just not her day. Running into both of the Finnegan boys is tough on her. I really do agree that she was not in a good emotional state back when she left town for good, when things got out of control. Now what will happen...?

Still deliberating

I had this book for a long time and i just came around to read it , i do have to finish the complete story before give a more rounded opinion , but so far so good though ! i really like the interaction of the charatcers , some scenes are really hot , like mayorly hot !!! and you can see that it will be more as the story develops.
I like Lena, but is to soon to tell if she will develope in to something more interesting.
Blake seemed to really care for her , and Slade seemed to be a hot one but a little douchie to me , maybe as the sotry develops we will see more of these charatcers , so far the story is engaging enough that i will keep reading it to see what happened between these 3 .

I was rather impressed by this book. It was a fast read with only 50 something pages but the only problem is I feel we spent more in the past with the main character than in the present. Not bad.

 Recently I've been going through my backlog of books that I've had for a while and reading them, starting with smallest page count first. I finally got to Misconception by Morgan Black, and was so excited. I love the book's gorgeous cover. Unfortunately, that's about the only thing I enjoyed about this book.

I'm not exactly sure where this book started to go wrong for me. It might have been from the beginning. The writing style just seemed very juvenile. The characters weren't written very well. They just seemed like cookie cutter characters without much individual personality.  The main character was ridiculously immature for her age, especially with everything going on around her. She drove me crazy with her whining. The plot was boring. The only reason why I even continued the book is that there was this underlying secret that was hinted at, and I wanted to know if it was what I predicted. It wasn't, which made things kind of disappointing.

This book definitely was not for me. I thought the writing style was very immature, and I didn't care for the characters at all. The book did have an interesting cliffhanger ending. However, I don't think that even that cliffhanger can get me to read more of this series.

Review
This book is number 1 in a serial by Morgan Black, and though the premise is something that I thought I could totally get behind, the reality was so not there.
Lena, despite being what I can only work out to be 22, behaves like a twelve year old girl, both '4 years later' as well as when she was 18. The way she carried on about her parent's divorce was beyond ridiculous and over the top. Her drama queening over the whole ordeal makes up majority of the story, not to mention the obviousness of the author throwing stuff in there convieniently when she remembered something or to make stuff that will happen later on in the serial make sense. If the author had've chosen another drama to have occured in her family and then had Lena react and behave the way she did, then it probably would've made more sense. But as it is, it's like she was the one that her father had cheated on, not her mother.
Now, I'll get to the Finnegan Brothers. I honestly can't tell you if I like them or not, or if I even want to find out more about them, because the truth of it is that we're not really given much insight into them as individuals or as a pair. There's only two very quick glimpses at them, a flashback to a not so sexy encounter between Slade and Lena and then the book ends with Blake finding out about Lena's betrayal. It beyond sucks. The whole thing. It's all so rushed and hurried and skimmed over that it's not in the least enjoyable. Not to mention Lena's constant whining over her life and the choices she's made. There is also mention of a little girl that Slade and Blake's parents have adopted. My money is on it being Lena's child and that obvious a curve in the storyline, especially in a serial, just annoys me. If Morgan Black wanted to do this story the justice it deserves she should have written it as a novel and given voice to everything so we could get to know the other players in the story, rather than focusing on inconsequential things like Charity, the girl's mother and father and Kenzie's petulant and childish behavior.
As much as I want to read the rest of this serial to find out if I'm right about the child, I don't think I'm going to be able to without throwing my iPad across the room. I guess I'll just have to wait and see.

I'd like to thank Netgalley for the opportunity to review this book!

Misconception is a very short erotica novel that is the first in the Finnegan Brothers series. The novel follows Lena, a young college student whose parents have recently divorced. Before leaving her hometown she was in a relationship with Blake Finnegan, who has an older brother named Slade. Things were really strong between Lena and Blake but on the night her parents break the news to her about their impending divorce, Lena makes a pretty naughty decision. With not even a goodbye, Lena leaves town with her mom and sister where she hopes to leave her past behind her. Unfortunately a few years later, her father is getting married and she is required to return back to her hometown in order to attend.

I'll just say it, I hated Lena. She is juvenile and made some really poor choices so it made it really hard to like this novel. I mean, I know that most erotica characters have to make some poor choices in order to find themselves in some sort of sexual dilemma but I had little sympathy and interest in Lena so it really took a way from the focal points of the book, which, are the sex scenes. With that being said, I wanted way more sex as there were only two sex scenes in the entire book. I know that this novel is short but I really wanted more, mostly because I didn't care about Lena or the divorce or anything like that. Sadly, because I wasn't involved in the characters, the sex scenes that did exist really lacked luster for me.

I should also mention that this book has a major cliff hanger at the end. I'm sure it was a marketing ploy because based on the length of this book I can't imagine it was meant to be read on its own. So if you like series, can tolerate cliff-hangers and are looking for a quick read that may raise your pulse a mild amount, then give this one a go. You may have more tolerance for Lena than I did or find yourself involved in the story a bit more.

HOT. FAST. FURIOUS.

That practically sums up the entire book. 3 words is all it takes. The only problem with this book is……

EVERYTHING ENDED TOO FAST!

I know the book has 40 pages but I never expected the book to end so fast! I read this book under 15 minutes, it was just too good to stop and rest.

(PFFT! REST IS FOR THE WEAK! MUHAHAHA!)

Just kidding, but honestly, Misconception was a fast-paced, amazing read! When people are experiencing the lowest time in their lives, they are vulnerable. All they need is a little spark and temptation to push them over the edge and they would do things they regret.

That is one of the elements in the book which I love. It amazes me how real Lena’s character is.

The Finnegan brothers, Slade and Blake, are hot as hell. Of course, lets not forget their sex prowess. Damn, the sex was bringing the temperature around here up a notch!

The story goes on a fast and furious rate and if you are looking for a mature, light and fast read, I highly recommend Misconception for you!

I received a copy of this book for free in exchange for an honest review.

This short story is about Lena, an almost college graduate, and two brothers: Blake and Slade. The story starts out with a hot little sex scene that happened back in 2011. Lena is dating Blake and she stops at home to visit him prior to spending time with her family for Thanksgiving. She jumps in to take a shower and practically collides with a naked Slade. I was a little put off that in 50 pages we're already starting out three years behind, but I figured that the storyline would let it catch up. I don't think it ever did. The author jumped back and forth a lot between present and past and that jumbled me around and made the story lose some footing.

The story has some potential. Minus the fact that I seriously hate love triangles, I can see how a pull between two brothers could be alluring. I liked the best friend. I thought the guys were hot. I also liked the set up with the family issues/pull from the hometown/reason for returning, but overall I didn't feel the draw to these characters like I wanted to. It felt too disjointed for me to be able to actually get invested. So, sigh. Not for lack of trying, because I really wanted to love it, but I couldn't feel a spark.

WHAT???? OMG! How can you leave us hanging like that Morgan Black???? I am so frustrated right now. Oh loved this book but now I need more. So very much more, that I will be buying the next book the second I can. Wow, this was great. To set up a story like this and leave us hanging. Genius, the work of a writer who knows how to draw a crowd. I feel for Blake and I need to know what comes next. I know that Slade with be the bad boy we all love to hate but, eventually love. This is a story that will arouse you, leave you on edge and begging for more, while you are secretly hating the situations that the characters are in. A really great start to a series.

I have been a fan of Morgan's for awhile now and Misconception is now my favorite out of her books. In Misconception you are introduced to Lena, a woman that tends to run away from all of her problems. When she returns back home she runs right into the two people she had originally ran away from. Without giving anything away, let's just say things get very complicated between Lena and the Finnegan brothers.

Misconception was such a great story. I can't wait to see where the story goes next!

This is a 5 star must read!

Review for Misconception by Morgan Black

Misconception is the first book in The Finnegan Brothers series by Morgan Black. It’s a novella length book with erotic elements as well as a love triangle for those of you that always want to know.

Lena is home from college for winter break; after a hot and steamy visit with her boyfriend Blake and a rather awkward run in with his big brother Slade she heads home to her parents house. Everything she thought she knew falls apart when her parents throw out the D word.

I’m going to be honest here, divorce sucks no matter how old you are, but these teens took it to crazy emotional heights. I wanted to smack both Lena and her sister for acting like babies. Made it feel like they were both preteens instead of an adult and a 14 year old girl. Lena needs a break, leaves the house a hot mess and heads out to Slade’s apartment knowing she could sit at the beach and be alone since he was at his parents house.

I won’t go into more of the plot from there, but we fast forward a few years and Lena and her sister are coming to stay with her dad and participate in his wedding to ‘the other woman’ — of course the Finnegan brothers are there to make Lena’s life a bit more dramatic.
This is the first book I’ve ever read by this author and all in all I think it has a good start. I’m not sure that with this being a serial there was enough to draw me in and really connect with the characters, but I’m intrigued enough to want to read the second part and see where the author takes it.

I’m giving it three stars for storyline and three wet panties for smut factor. I’ve got high hopes that the author can really hook me with the second installment.

Misconception is book #1 in the Finnegan Brothers series; this is the first book I have read by this author. I was given this book in exchange for an honest review so here goes....

This is a novella length story which I wasn't aware of before I started reading.

This book starts with a bang quite literally lol, it throws you straight into a hot sex scene between Lena and Blake the youngest Finnegan brother.

This author writes no holds barred sex and it was dirty and seriously sexy.

I liked Lena but she does seem to have some issues and is quite immature for her age.

We don't really get to know either Blake or the older brother Slade that well but to be honest from what I know I'm totally team Slade so far!!

We get another taste of Morgan Black’s dirty mind with another smoking hot sex scene with the Finnegan boys.

The book flashes forward 4 years but throws Lena straight back into the Finnegan brother’s path and I can already tell this book is going to be filled with lust filled sexual tension.

My main criticism with this book is that it finished as soon as it really got started.

I'm not a fan of novellas but this book acts as a taster of things to come in the next book and it's definitely whetted my appetite for book #2 Deception.

I genuinely have no idea how this book series is going to go so far there are 3 books already written and I get to read all of them so I will keep you posted.

This little bite of sexy goodness gets 4 can't wait to find out what happens next stars!!

Lena has it all: the perfect family, she's doing great at college, and she has a great boyfriend, Blake Finnegan. But one fateful night, she stumbles upon Blake's brother, Slade, while she's naked and on the way to the bathroom. She can't deny the attraction she feels for her boyfriend’s brother, but she knows her boundaries and manages to resist the temptation.

But when she gets home that night and her perfect life crumbles apart when her dad announces he's found another woman and is going to divorce her mother, Lena's beside herself.

Heartbroken, she runs to her boyfriend’s, Blake, to seek comfort, but finds Slade there instead. The inevitable happens.

Racked with guilt after betraying the guy she loves, she breaks ties with Blake and leaves her hometown behind, resettling in Florida with her younger sister and mother.

Years later, she returns to her hometown as her father is finally making his union with Charity, the woman he left her mother for, legal.

Lena meets up with old friends and runs into the Finnegan brothers at a party. Will Blake ever find out the real reason Lena left him? Will Slade try anything? What is Lena going to do now?

~~~~~~~~~~~
Misconception is a quick read, with an interesting premise, but the mention of DIVORCE in every other sentence made for a tedious read. If only it was pared down a bit, the story would have been perfect. I will definitely check out the next book in the series, though. *crossing fingers*
Misconception features:
erotica
oral
adultery themes
cheating
angst
quick read
2.5 stars - this fell somewhere in between it being okay and me liking it.
I think my biggest problem was that even for a serial or novella the story felt under developed. It felt like moments were missing. The writing could have been a little cleaner; there were times I had to reread a sentence to make sure I understood what was trying to be relayed. I didn't really connect with the lead female, Lena. Because there wasn't a lot of development I couldn't always relate or understand why she reacted the way she did in certain situations. I didn't even really connect with Blake who we meet as her boyfriend. There was an instant attraction to Blake's older brother, Slade. He'll give you that cheesy grin you can't unplaster from your face.
I was a little confused about this big mystery that is mentioned, it seemed at one time it had to do with her family and then later about her boyfriend and his brother.
The synopsis felt a little misleading once I got to the end. The girl Lena is before she leaves and after when she returns to where she grew up are some what different...I guess...but not to the way I would have expected when I read the summary. Again this is a development thing.
I get this is a serial/novella series but the end felt like I just ended a chapter and there should have been more, not that I ended a story and was prepped for the next installment.
There is a story here, but for me , I needed more to get fully invested and unfortunately it just didn't have it.
~~I received this in exchange for an honest review~~
This is the first book in the Finnegan brothers series. And I have to tell you, this book grabs you at the beginning of the story and it never lets you go. It still has its claws on me! We have Lena who is in love with Blake, but at the same time, she loves Slade, Blake's brother. When all hell brakes loose at her house, her sister, mother and Lena leave and don't come back. That is until, her dad is getting remarried. Can she keep the peace with her dad? Can she see the Finnegan boys without falling all over them again? Or will she leave even more hurt this time than the last?
Well, I can't answer those questions. You are going to have to read it! And trust me, you will NOT be disappointed at all. Morgan is an awesome writer that leaves you wanting more!!!! There is passion, and suspense. And don't forget the hot guys! If you haven't read any of her work before, you need to!!!
ARC received from NetGalley for honest review
This was my first time reading anything by this Author and let me tell you I was left wondering why I had waited so long!
This book may have been short, but in no way was it lacking. From the very first page it is smoking hot and leaves you sitting doing nothing but turning the pages.
Although it is placed in the erotica genre and will leave your kindle smoking it still has an excellent story line! The writing is smooth and the plot line flows effortlessly. Although you don't see a lot of depth to any of the characters but Lena, you are still given enough of everyone to really get a feel for them.
There were some editing issues that I caught here and there but other than that this was a remarkable read. I may have received book one for free but I honestly went directly from book one to purchasing the left of the series.
Be warned, once you start this you will be unable to stop!
Spoilers beware...
Let me start this review by saying I hate love triangles. Im not oppose to cheating, but with brothers, thats another story. The way Lena handled the situation was horrible. Instead of holding herself accountable she blames the other brother for taking advantage of her seriously. Women up. You slept with him dont act like you didnt know what you were doing. I didnt like it one bit. I understand the running away part cause you didnt want to have to break another person's heart. However, just like ever lie, the truth has to come out eventually.
As I said earlier I dont like lobe triangles so I dont know if im going to read the next book right now. That is just my opinion.
Love triangle except with two brothers thrown in with a tumultuous divorce and what do you get? The beginning of something good.
This book has potential but I didn't know it was a series. The only reason it didn't get 4 stars is because I was left hanging here with no clue how this will go next. The writing is good and the buildup good, I just don't like waiting to know what happens next. I feel like there is a lot more to this story that is "implied" if you read between the lines but we will see.
Overall, good read with interesting plot.
We get to meet Lena during her freshman year of college. She is coming home from school and of course her first stop is to see her boyfriend Blake. Where she has an unexpected run in with Slade. This sorta creates the triangle. But we aren't given much more as she goes home and her family falls apart. Now years later she's back.
Her relationship with Blake blew apart when she left town but now she's back and has to face both Slade and Blake. Things heat up quickly but of course there is a cliff hanger...have to wait for the next part!
I was provided an ARC from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
Unfortunately I was not a fan of this book, which is disappointing because I thought the plot was good. The length of the book was a hindrance, as the author didn't have time to really create much depth to the characters or the storyline, but I was grateful for the length because I really didn't enjoy it. Most of the book was spent on her parents' divorce and the relationship between them. I would have rather had more backstory on Lena and the brothers.
I received this book from NetGalley for review:
This was a really good start. When I requested this book I didn't know it was the start of a Novella series, I thought it was more of a full length story.
That being said I liked it. But there were moments where the dialog felt, off. And there were a couple formatting issues, but that's a different issue. I guess my only real big issue is that I didn't know it was a novella, other than that it's a great start to a novella series that makes you want to read the rest of the books asap.
Not bad
The story line was there, and it flowed easily enough. I just didn't feel that much of a connection to the main character. She just seemed a bit childish and whiny for someone who stated over and over how much of an adult she was. Maybe it gets better as the series goes on. I wouldn't purchase the second one, but if I found the book for free, and I was looking for something to kill the time, I may pick up the second book.
This is a quick little read. It is plenty steamy and hot with a twist.
Lena comes home from college and gets a shock of life. She feels like her world is falling apart. She wants to she her boyfriend Blake but who she sees instead is someone that could destroy her would even more.
What happens to Lena?
I would recommend this to readers who like hot steamy sex with a suspense of what happens next.
