I feel like we don’t have enough books like daisy jones and evelyn hugo, until this year when the favorites dropped out of nowhere and revived the genre(can I even call it a genre? Honestly it should do like dark academia and become a thing). After that, and honestly even right after I read daisy jones, I looked everywhere for something that resembled remotely close to it, and it was fruitless. So can you imagine when an author came to me and said “I have this arc, daisy jones meet the favorites, do you want it?” GIVE IT TO ME RIGHT NOW PLEASE. This is how I came to read this book, and let me tell you, it did not disappoint. In A Glorious Decade we follow a love triangle of famous people: a singer, a model and a fashion designer. It’s set in the 60s-ish but spans many years, and it truly painted the picture so well. It is told in an interview format, so it goes by really quickly even if it is quite lengthy. It’s not up to the favorites in levels but it is filled with drama, gossip, rumors and all the things we love to see in books like this one. I think it would make for a perfect summer read, so check it out if it sounds interesting to you!
Thank you to the author for the arc in exchange for an honest review.
Be right back. Immediately going to purchase this book AND the authors fantasy she has written... *adds Lucia Damisa to my insta-buy author list*… Because she is a STUNNING writer. I loved this. When this was pitched as Daisy Jones/The Favorites, I knew I would love it or hate it (as Daisy is one of my all time favorite books and I really didn’t want to end up comparing the 2) but MANNNNN. This book was phenomenal. Sure there’s drama and love and all that jazz but there is SO much more to it than that. So many familial aspects that destroyed my heart. So many deep themes that brought out every single emotion in me. I had to message the author when I was barely 50 pages in because the tears just wouldn’t stop forming. Even when nothing major was happening, I’d read one line and it would just stab me in the heart 😅 Her writing is just beautiful. Easy peasy 5⭐️s to give 👏🏼🤌🏼
Wow! This was incredible story that I didn’t want to end. I don’t think I can explain all the stages of grief I experienced through John, Ailey and Samira’s love triangle, but the drama would put tik tok to shame if they had it in the 60s! The price of fame and the hearts of two successful women fighting for the man they loved, leads to a surprising ending and easily one of the best stories I’ve read in a long time!
EASILY 5 FREAKING STARS!!!! I quite literally JUST finished this book and I have no words. This book made me feel allllll the feels. It made me laugh till my stomach hurt, made me swoon over all the characters, made me eat up alllll the drama, and made me SOB like a freaking baby I couldn’t even read the words on my kindle!!! This book was written so beautifully. And the style of the book was so interesting (I hadn’t read daisy jones and the six or the favorites) so this was my first book that I read that was styled in an interview and it is my absolute FAVORITE style!!! I need more books styled that way!!! I loved EVERYTHING about this book. The drama, the complex emotions, the plot, the complex love triangle, all of it I loved!! I couldn’t stop reading it and when I read the last page I didn’t want it to end!! Aliey, Samira, and Johnny have my whole heart!! Their complex love made me cry so many times because I was rotting for one but then the other would do something and I would swoon over that! Ughhh this book was just absolutely amazing!! I loved each one of their personalities!! Aliey because she was so sweet and fierce and strong and didn’t give up! She did anything in her power to get the things she wanted and I loved that about her. Samira because she grew her fashion from the ground up! She was truly an inspiration!! And Johnny because he was so kind and wanted the best for both people he loved even if he loved one more than the other!! He made something for himself without anyone telling him how to do it! He was also such an inspiration and I loved him so much (most of the time if I’m being honest)! OMGGGG I ALSO NEED TO MENTION THE SIDE CHARACTERS BECAUSE THEY HAVE MY WHOLE HEART AS WELL!! Pete, Cain, Mia, Cara, and Danny!!! They were such great side characters that also had such an impact on telling the story!! OMGGGG AND THAT ENDING!!! BEST ENDING EVER I WAS SOOOO FREAKING HAPPY!!!! ☺️💕 This book/this story!!!! Is definitely one of my all time favorites!! I want to give a HUGE thank you to Lucia Damisa for reaching out and giving me this ARC!! Because if she hadn’t I wouldn’t have even know that my all time favorite book was even written!!
"Whatever I might've done, princess, look how good that rock looks on your finger.'
First and foremost thank you to Lucia for reaching out to me with this ARC. It truly was a joy to read! This novel is set in 1960’s Hollywood with all the glitz, glamour, scandals and an unravelling love triangle. I was completely engrossed into this book that I never wanted to put it down!
At the centre of it all is Johnny day, a tall, dark and irresistibly charismatic rising music star who captures not just the attention of America, but the hearts of two very different women.
Samira, a bold and brilliant fashion designer who built her career from the ground up, shares a passion with Johnny that blazes with intensity. But the spotlight isn’t kind it exposes insecurities, attracts unwanted scrutiny, and tests the strength of their love.
Enter Ailey, a confident and assertive supermodel who’s equally drawn to Johnny. Is she genuinely in love, or is she just looking for a piece of his fame and money? The tension between these three characters simmers with every chapter, and the emotional stakes only grow higher.
The book reminded me in parts of Magnolia Parks, especially with its raw portrayal of toxic love and the harsh glare of public opinion. The emotional turmoil, the obsession, and the heartbreaking descent into substance abuse are all painted with aching realism. Watching beloved characters struggle under the weight of fame and fan judgment is both devastating and thought-provoking.
What adds even more depth to the story is its unflinching look at racism and discrimination faced by Black individuals during that era. The injustices are infuriating, and the author doesn't shy away from portraying them with honesty and sensitivity. And let’s not forget the fashion! Learning about 1960s trends through the eyes of a designer was such an intriguing touch, and it gave the story a vivid texture.
Dramatic, glamorous, and emotionally charged, this novel needs to be on your TBR. Just be warned this is a love story that hurts. But it’s worth every page.
Wow. Just wow. I loved this so much. Think Daisy Jones and The Six, but with a wonderfully diverse cast and with 60s fashion industry looped in. I love drama-filled connections and relationships that go through rollercoasters so of course, I ate this up. Friends, I flew through this book.
Spoiler warning ⚠️
Ailey is sharp, has claws, and quite honestly isn’t afraid to use them. But she also has a softer side where she’s simply yearning for her parents’ attention and others’ love. She’s this rich kid who grew up with love, and then who had that love ripped away from her. Ailey is SO interesting to me, as I think Lucia’s choice of having her grow up with a great parental unit rather than having her start out as desperate for their attention sets Ailey apart and makes her unique.
Johnny remains one of my favorite characters. He has really great lines, and his abandonment issues totally endear him to me. I love that Johnny was a role model for kids who look like him: “Brown youths would walk up to him. They’d tell him how he inspired them to pursue something they’d feared was out of reach before. Made them prouder of their roots.” Yes!
Lucia does a wonderful job with showing Cara as her own, three-dimensional character while also using her as a lens to peer into the toxicity of Johnny and Samira’s early love. A great line that stands out to me in this regard is: “I don’t think at that young age, they knew how to handle the intensity of their feelings. How to balance it out with the rest of their lives.” Lucia also does something similar with Kim & Danny – fabulously done!
I really appreciated the scenes included about fashion, and how well it threaded together Johnny and Samira’s early career success to their relationship. It’s very co-dependent in a delicious way! This was just a riveting, heartwarming, heartbreaking book.
Some favorite lines!
One of the busybody girls piped up, “Johnny Day’s got a girl.” Ailey flicked up an elegant brow and said, “And so?”
“I didn’t make the statement to tear down Samira’s brand. I barely even knew her at the time.” The tension this creates between Ailey and Samira is fabulous – love that this is their first real interaction with each other.
“He got fed up with the discrimination and that’s why he went to war. To escape.” Chills!
“You break up with someone, are hurting, yet have to worry about putting out a statement to inform strangers. And you both don’t even get do it. Your managers do, as if it’s two nations declaring amnesty”
I LOVE the book’s ending, particularly the last line!!
I can't give this story enough stars to express how amazing it was. I knew as soon as I started crying only a few pages in, it would be a great read. This might have been my top read of the year.
The story was written in transcript format, which was new for me. I think it's what made the storytelling better. I felt like I was watching the actual documentary. I've never read Daisy Jones & The Six or any decade pieces, so I didn't know what to expect. I didn't know if I would like it. Little did I know, that this piece would exceed every one of my expectations.
Thank you Lucia for allowing me to read this beautifully written piece. And for opening my eyes to new forms of writing. I wouldn't have picked up something like this on my own if I'm being honest, but I'm so glad that I did.
Read it! You will be entertained. You will also cry.... A LOT. Lol.
After reading Daisy Jones and The Six years ago I’ve been craving a read with the same feel and this book left me feeling the exact same way. Whilst it’s completely different in its own way, similarly this book is written in transcript format, starting off slow but picking up pace fast. There’s romance, drama, scandals and you’re immersed into 1960’s Old Hollywood completely. Deeper subjects are explored, such as racism, injustice and the treatment of women in the fashion industry during this time period. The characters feel so intensely and I was moved by how each of them faced these injustices, add on top a pure but confusing love triangle and you’re left with a heart-wrenchingly beautiful story which has you flying through the pages just to see how it ends.
Thank you to Lucia for letting me read this, your story-telling, ability and thoughtfulness shines through this book, I absolutely loved it!
SHRIEKING!!! WHAT DID I JUST READ?!!! The drama!!! The scandals!! The ‘who gets who’?!!
I loved this so much. In the era of books like The Favorites and Daisy Jones and The Six, this book came perfectly timed. It has the gripping fast pace and fascinating drama, but also stands on its own so well! I was hooked by page ONE, was already emotionally invested once we saw Ailey’s backstory and entered into Johnny’s. I read this in 2 days and could hardly put it down.
The characters are not perfect. AT ALL. They’re flawed and yet you just fall for them and root so hard for certain ones! I also love how it spans years and we get to see them grow—or THINK they’re growing but just react to childhood trauma. (Excuse me while I ugly cry 😭) I adored the fashion and music angles, I learned so much about 60s fashion especially. The Le Smoking scene was one of my favorites. I also loved loved loved the exploration of fan behavior and what it’s like for young celebrities, having all your mistakes watched by the whole world who has to chime in and make everything worse.
Ailey: I would give everything for this woman. Like, she’s so flawed but I LOVE her. Johnny: OH MY SWEET JOHNNY! Fame was wringing this man in a knot! Samira: I related so much to her! But gosh girl made some really bad decisions!!
I loved so many of the side characters. I DESPISED some and just wanted to hop into the book and throw hands!! I need more people to read this book because I have so many thoughts on who ended up with who!? By the last pages, I was crying and my heart was devastated 😭
If you loved the books mentioned above, or if you’re in a book slump post-The Favorites, or if you love messy Hollywood drama with characters you’ll go to war for, you have got to pick this up!!
It’s out now and after reading an ARC, I’m waiting for my paperback to arrive!
A Glorious Decade is such a unique and refreshing read. Told entirely through the transcript of a documentary series, it took a moment to adjust—but once I did, I was hooked. The love triangle between Ailey, Samira, and Johnny was compelling, but what stood out was the coming-of-age journey each of them went through while growing up in the spotlight.
I adored the supporting cast and the way everyone got a love story. It’s heartfelt, creative, and full of moments that remind you what it means to truly find your people and yourself.
The drama and glamour is worthy of a movie, but what grounded me was how real the characters’ pains and hurts felt! I did not get MY happy ever after in a way, but I understand and got it in other ways. Loved this 🥹🫶 You have to pick it up!
This was a beautiful story about being young & in love. Add in fame & discrimination and you get plenty of drama! The passion and the feelings in this were so good. I loved the characters, the story. I saw the very ending coming. (Happy it did too!)

Ten years after the explosive love triangle between singer Johnny Day, fashion designer Samira Zin, and model Ailey Ose, which dominated the Hollywood spotlight in the 1960s, they disclose what really happened during that time in a tell-all interview. America had pitted the women against each other for years and had scrutinized Johnny for his actions and for jumping from one of the women to the next. One thing that is certain is that fame put them under the heat of the spotlight, and now that all this time had passed, all will be revealed.
-----
The beginning started off a little slow for me, but from about 25% into the book onward, I was easily engrossed with this story's drama, passion, and betrayal. I honestly wasn't too sure who I was rooting for throughout it since all the characters deserve happiness, but it kept me at the edge of my seat. And without giving anything away, I LOVED THE ENDING OF THIS! It made all the heartbreak worth it!
I was curious if this was loosely based on a real life celebrity love triangle. The author did disclose in the acknowledgements that she did draw inspiration from a certain celebrity trio and I think I can definitely see it! I honestly don't keep up with much celebrity gossip but even I had hear the drama regarding them!
Also, I've always thought these interview style books were interesting and impressive because it must be somewhat difficult to descriptively paint a story with just dialogue. I thought this definitely accomplished that and then some! I like that it is also able to touch on deeper topics beyond the romance, such as racism and the mistreatment of women in the fashion/modeling industry.
Thank you to the sweet author Lucia Damisa for this ARC! It is a great read and I recommend it!
Wow, my heart and head went through the emotional wars with this one.
Firstly, I just want to say thank you to Lucia for reaching out and granting me an ARC of A Glorious Decade. The time and dedication poured into this book are clearly visible through the writing.
This was my first time reading a book in transcript format. While it took me a while to get into the first part, I was completely hooked by the middle and couldn’t stop reading through to the end! I initially struggled with the pacing and the introduction of so many characters, but the more I read, the more clued in I felt, and eventually, everything clicked.
A Glorious Decade is a nod to the 1960s Hollywood era, packed with glamour, drama, and scandal. If you’re a fan of fashion, music, and the drama of Daisy Jones & The Six, you’ll absolutely love this.
The story follows three main characters, all influential figures of the time, as they’re interviewed about a tumultuous love triangle that rocked the decade. While the book captures the glitz and glamour of the ’60s, it also explores deeper themes such as racism and discrimination faced by Black Americans during this era, and how these issues shaped the characters’ lives and careers.
The romance was devastating. There were moments that broke my heart, these characters felt everything so deeply. I had an inkling about how things would end. Was I satisfied? Yes, but I wish there had been more fight from certain characters. Everything was so fiery and passionate in the beginning, and I would’ve loved to see that carried through to the end.
Overall, I had a great experience reading this and would 100% recommend it to anyone who loves a fiery love affair and is looking to try something a bit different with a unique format.
I want to start by saying that I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review—and while I think I was meant to read it before release, life got in the way. But here I am now, finally sitting down to write this… and absolutely sobbing.
If you loved Daisy Jones & The Six by Taylor Jenkins Reid or The Favorites by Layne Fargo—and you’re looking for something with rich BIPOC representation—then stop what you’re doing and get your hands on this book. While some reviews compare it to The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo, I personally didn’t feel that connection as strongly.
This book completely blew me away. The documentary/interview-style storytelling is one of my favourite formats, and it’s done so well here. While Samira, Ailey, and Johnny take center stage, the supporting characters are just as vivid and compelling—they feel like real people with real stories, and I found myself emotionally invested in all of them.
I have so much I want to say, but I’m struggling to fully express just how deeply this story moved me. The emotional tension, the heartbreak, the triumph—I was rooting for everyone. I’ll admit, it took me a little while to get into the rhythm at the beginning, but once it clicked, I was hooked. My heart was racing, and even though I wasn’t sure how I wanted things to end, I was completely satisfied with how it all played out.
Do yourself a favor: read this book. You won’t regret it.
4.5 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️✨ Written in an interview format with various POV’s similar to Daisy Jones and The Six made this read more enjoyable and present in the scandal. I first came to love each character individually then suddenly half ways though I came to realize this book is inspired by the whole Justin, Selena, and Hailey drama. I was locked in reliving certain magazine articles that wouldn’t leave these humans alone. Besides the scandal, there were many deep important themes happening in the book. From racism, depression, insecurities, bullying, and how traumatizing the model industry can be. My heart was hurting for each character, crying at certain moments. What I loved the most was that the MC’s loved one’s storylines were included; making the ending even more beautiful. As well, the FASHION 😍 Lucia was great at describing Samira’s designs and the fits Ailey would wear down the runway in detail. The story was truly incredible, it gave me all the feels and the closure I didn’t know I needed to the real life “scandal” 😅🫣
I loved the interview style writing of the book (I’ve really enjoyed this style this year in the favourites and daisy jones). The ending I was a little dissatisfied with as I liked the character who Johnny didn’t need up with more but then again he didn’t deserve her and who she ends up with did so I’m conflicted. Johnny and the one he ends up with deserved each other It was overall well written and kept me reading!
The interview style of writing is so daisy jones coded but the authors own style. The story really sucked me in about 30% of the way in and I didn’t find the ending predictable at all. The reality of the 60s and the racism that artists faced was well capture. So thankful for the opportunity to read this ARC from Lucia herself!!
For me, I know a book is an instant 5-star when I can’t wait to pick it up again after putting it down. I found A Glorious Decade to be an exciting, engaging read, and I adored the documentary style that this was written in. A Hollywood expose-style story with BIPOC leads? Yes please.
The author did a wonderful job with keeping you hooked because you never knew what was coming next. The writing was engaging and I was completely invested in Johnny, Samira, and Ailey’s lives, and the peek into the behind-the-scenes aspects of being a celebrity. There’s a large cast of characters, but I found them easy to keep track of. The ending was satisfactory, and there is an HEA for our main cast.
I really enjoyed this book, and it’s a must read for those who love Hollywood-style scandals and documentaries, don’t mind love triangles, and enjoy historical time periods (this is set in the 60s).
This book will destroy your slump and remind you why reading is such a wild ride! I felt joy! I felt pain! I felt frustration and dread! Arghhhh it was a treat!
I adored this book, I loved the narrative of it being a multi-POV interview and found all the characters so intriguing. The plot and structure really made it feel like I was witnessing a real interview, of real people and I enjoyed it so much!
The story was meaningful, emotional and I truly didn’t know how it was going to end! For the fact it was nearly 600 pages long it definitely felt like such an easy read.
100% should be added to your TBR if you love Daisy Jones and the Six, 7 Husbands of Evelyn Hugo or Great Big Beautiful Life
Thank you to Lucia Damisa for granting me an ARC of your novel! I was excited to dive into a story that you clearly poured your heart into — and that love shows on every page. Please know this review is offered with appreciation and intended to be fair, honest, and reflective of my personal reading experience.
Set in 1960s Hollywood — all glitz, glam, and scandal — the novel follows three socialites (a fashion designer, musician, and model) as they’re interviewed about the love triangle that rocked the tabloids and, at times, eclipsed their own careers. The story is told in a transcript format, which adds a unique layer of intrigue that immediately piqued my interest.
It’s evident that this book is a love letter to Old Hollywood, but it also doesn’t shy away from the harsh realities of racism and discrimination faced by Black individuals in that era. I felt deeply for these characters and found myself angry at the injustices they endured.
The romance, true to its time, felt glamorous, dramatic, and groovy — not so different from today’s headlines. At times, it felt like watching a documentary; I could picture myself in the room, hearing these confessions firsthand. The drama builds beautifully throughout, and I was especially moved by Ailey’s arc.
Lucia did a fantastic job getting me invested in the characters. I was heartbroken for each of them at different points, which speaks to how well she understood and portrayed their emotional journeys. That was my favorite part — seeing the hurt, healing, and growth. I was inspired by their resilience and celebrated their wins.
The novel’s use of transcription was a major draw for me, and while I admire the ambition behind this choice, I personally found it wasn’t quite my cup of tea (key word there MY). It sometimes pulled me out of the narrative, especially when I had to recheck the speaker descriptions to keep track of who was talking. The timeline also became confusing — at times it felt like decades had passed, only to realize it had been months. For example, I was surprised to learn near the end that Johnny was only 25. I’m not sure if this confusion stemmed from the style or the pacing, but I do think the transcript format was still a bold and fitting choice for this story.
My thoughts on the love triangle ending: I wasn’t fully satisfied with how the love triangle resolved. While I understand the decision narratively, I didn’t feel entirely convinced by the end that the final couple made sense together. I loved the depiction of first love — that thread was powerful — but I wasn’t fully sold on their long-term compatibility. I also felt that certain conflicts were forgiven too quickly, and I would’ve appreciated a deeper unpacking of the fallout.
All in all, I’m grateful I got the chance to read this novel and write a review.
Should you spill this into your TBR? Yes — if you’re a fan of transcript-style storytelling and intrigued by 1950s–60s Old Hollywood drama, this might just be your next read.
A story absolutely jam-packed with 60s celebrity drama with three people right at the centre of it all…
Firstly, I would like to thank Lucia Damisa for sending me the ARC of A Glorious Decade - it was such an honour and a privilege to get to read your book. I’m extremely grateful. What follows is my completely honest review:
The transcript format was so fitting for this story! It felt as though I was literally in the interview room listening to the characters as they revealed their truths. I think this narrative style is very difficult to pull off successfully but Lucia Damisa utilised it almost effortlessly.
This book also centralises BIPOC characters who are navigating the 1960s societal landscape - an aspect that was done with so much sensitivity and care. Stories like this one are important to tell. I thought all the characters were super interesting and I loved watching how they navigated fame and the ups and downs of being cast in the spotlight. Fame isn’t always glitz and glam, and this story reflects that harsh truth.
Also, I felt as though (sometimes) the pacing was too fast in certain aspects. I found myself wanting a bit more introspection from our characters at times: I felt as though the author didn’t let us sit in the more sadder/more reflective moments for very long as the plot progressed quickly. There were times too where it felt as though the characters were simply telling us what happened in their past and the novel became quite informative rather than a story with emotional contexts, if that makes any sense? I suppose this is a potential pitfall of the transcript format.
Nevertheless, I was really happy with the way the plot developed, and even more so with the ending. An ending I hoped for and a fitting ending for our characters. Although, it did seem a little bit rushed - once again, I wanted a little bit more.
Overall though, I really think this is a good book for anyone intrigued by the glitz and glam of the 1960s and for those eager to read a more diverse take on this era. Lucia Damisa’s writing holds so much promise and I can’t wait to see where she takes us next.
Set in 1980's California during the filming of Q Hollywood True Stories, a documentary series about the lives and relationships of celebrities, the story opens with biracial model Aisley Ose being interviewed about her upbringing and her involvement in Johnny Day's life during a decade in 1960's.
Through her transcript-formatted book, A Glorious Decade, Lucia Damisa explores a great take on the unhealthy obsession with celebrities' lives, love triangles, and the sinister world of Hollywood and stardom.
After the first couple of pages, you get used to the storytelling style. The "documentary edit" creates great pacing with multiple interviewees' input and roles in the tumultuous relationships between our core 3 protagonists and we, as the "viewer", quickly find out that this won't be just a fluffy piece on a gold-digging nepo baby ballerina-turned-supermodel. There's love, there's drama, there's multiple POVs, each with a distinct voice, story, and depth.
There's so much character and worldbuilding that happens extremely naturally via the interviewees. There were only a few moments where I felt that some information was shared in an obvious way for exposition purposes and some of the language felt a touch too modern, but other than that, it was a fast-paced page-turner of a book. I'm glad I took my time to experience it over the course of a couple of weeks - it felt as though I was actually watching a show and slowly getting to know the story of 3, no, 4, characters - Ailey, Samira, Johnny, and the public's perception. It's a story of normal human experiences and turbulations, magnified through the lens of fame. I'd vaguely learned about the real-life story that served as inspiration behind the book while I was reading it, so it was interesting to see how the author intertwined everyone's involvement, created so much detail, and also managed to tie everything together in such a wholesome way.
Thank you for the great ARC, Lucia! I'm super excited to dive into you fantasy books and am wishing tons of success with your upcoming July release ❤️
4.5⭐️ I loved Ailey so much! She’s a strong, intelligent, determined, and no bullshit girl. She doesn’t let models try to undermine her and shows how much of a badass she is. She talks about the beginning of her life and I felt for her. She tried so hard to get the approval from her parents. She went through so much. She faced tragedies, heartbreak, and the struggles of being a young model. I feel for Ailey and the fact she didn’t have her parents with her when she needed them the most. Yet she made a name for herself and was resilient🫶🏼🫶🏼She took whatever life handed her and made her own path. I enjoyed getting so many different POVs of the characters that are essential to understanding each character. I loved that we get the background and childhood of who Samira, John, and Ailey are. I really enjoyed following the journey of their lives and the moments they met one another and even before. My heart broke for Johnny and all the racist comments and hate that was directed towards him. I loved his passion for music and the way he was💞 His relationship with Samira was so endearing. I loved how much he connected with her and they both found a place of comfort and peace with each other!! My heart broke for everything Samira and John went through. Life, public opinion, and fame really was the downfall of their relationship. I’m broken and I have no words for how I feel. I’m glad Samira was able to find succeed and had moments of happiness. I don’t want to give anything away but be ready to cry and sob! 😭😭My heart broke for Ailey. She was my favorite character! Shout out to everyone that was real ones like Mia, Pete, Kim, Scooter, Cara, and Danny 🫶🏼🫶🏼Pete and Mia were the realest friends ever I loved them! If you haven’t read this please do so! 🤍🥹
If you're in the mood for an Old Hollywood-glam, deep, gut-punching, scandal-filled love triangle featuring interracial and first-love romance—pick this book up ASAP.
Where do I even start? MAJOR Daisy Jones & The Six vibes with the narrative style, the love triangle, and the “famous character” trope. I was told this one as a reference, and I was immediately sold. But also, Johnny (our MMC) gave me serious Grip vibes (cue me screaming as a Kennedy Ryan fan), and it became a sure deal from the get go.
Samira, Johnny, and Ailey are perfectly imperfect characters chasing big dreams while grappling with young love, early-career/family struggles, and the cost of fame bleeding into their art and relationships. Each one is put through the wringer and you feel deeply for them—even when I hated their thought processes and decisions—but I loved the resilience each one shows in pursuing their goals. The lessons? Harsh but necessary. And the payoff? Worth it with a sweet sour finale.
Side characters like Scoot, Pete, Danny, Cara, and Mia also shine adding depth and heart to the story’s evolution. And lastly, I couldn't get enough of the vintage celebrity glamour woven throughout, it captures you entirely. The narrative doesn't shy away from tough topics either as discrimination and racism are woven powerfully and meaningfully into the storyline.
Anyway, I can’t recommend this book enough. ✨
🎀 Rating: 4.5⭐️ | Spice Level: 🫑 ⚠️Disclaimer: there is a one-time cheating scene. I know that’s a dealbreaker for some, so fair warning. But if you survived Magnolia Parks… you're gonna be fine.
Lucia Damisa’s A Glorious Decade is a captivating journey into the glamour and grit of 1960s Hollywood. Set against the backdrop of a transformative era, the novel beautifully captures the spirit of Old Hollywood while shedding light on the racial injustices that shaped—and often constrained—the lives of those within it.
This was my first time reading an advanced reader copy, and I couldn’t have asked for a better introduction. Damisa’s storytelling is immersive, and the character development truly stood out. I found myself deeply connected to Aliey, Samira, and Johnny—each of whom felt vividly real, layered, and unforgettable. Their stories pulled me in and held me there, emotionally invested through every twist and turn.
What I appreciated most was the way the book balanced heart with history. It offers a compelling blend of romance, resilience, and realism, culminating in a satisfying and heartfelt conclusion. I love a happy ending, and Damisa delivered one that felt both earned and emotionally fulfilling.
A Glorious Decade is a beautiful, poignant read that left a lasting impression. I’m grateful for the opportunity to read it early, and I can’t wait to see how others connect with it as well.
A Glorious Decade was good. It was filled with lots of drama, ups and downs among other things. I loved the way the author chose to tell the story it made it seem that much more authentic.
It was very much a coming of age story about those thrust into the spotlight at a young age and how they navigated all that came at them. I'm not going to lie it got messy but it kept my attention and kept me engrossed throughout. It highlighted discrimination, racism, sexual exploitation, substance abuse and so much more.
I loved the way she drew the characters. I didn't love their decisions and actions most of the time but they felt real and raw.
This book made me feel quite a lot of things, anger being a prominent one.
At its core it was a journey of coming into your own, being comfortable in your own skin and at peace with who you are. I enjoyed it and definitely recommend.
