Twenty years ago little Carolyn had her stepmother permanently removed. Today, a psychopath has murdered sixteen young women in a grisly fashion, and Tucson reporter Ben Qaudrun is looking into the story. A gripping novel of terror and suspense--filled with believable characters and fascinating details on the newspaper business. Matthew Hall, whose father created TV's "Dark Shadows", worked briefly as a reporter in Tucson.

This book was humming along at a good pace and then it took a wild turn for no reason. I had to go back and re-read a chapter because I honestly didn't know what happened. All was good and then it was like the main character was drugged or something. Completely out of character. For a book about murder, I was disappointed we got barely two scenes. Especially since we know the antagonist has killed many more people. I didn't hate this book but I would say it ended with a bad taste in my mouth.

hm…. ok. Sooooo first off, this man tells his lover that she is “SO dark” right after they had sex, and then sleeps with a pasty white woman and is so infatuated by her the whole book???? and there’s barely any explanation on wtf is wrong with her too ?
Carolyn is precise and purposeful--a unique, psychic, serial killer. Reporter Ben Quadron is the only one who can stop her.
While it's clear that this was a first book, the character of Carolyn Bergeron is a brilliant accomplishment, and makes this book worth reading. She is one of the most unique creations I've ever had the pleasure of meeting, in fiction, and I do wish, somehow, that Matthew Hall could incorporate her into another novel. She deserves to be better known!
