His White Moonlight

Rate this book
Being the foster daughter of the affluent Wulf family should’ve been a dream—but Wrenly never truly belonged. Not to their world. Not to their pack. And definitely not to Bennett Wulf, her so-called “older brother,” who never treated her like a sister.

His distance used to hurt her. Not anymore. This summer is her last at home. After that, it would be college, freedom, and a future on her terms.

All she has to do is survive one last summer with the Wulfs...and with Bennett. Except now that she's decided she no longer needs his acceptance, something between them is changing. It’s not affection. It’s not brotherly. And it’s becoming impossible to ignore.

Whatever it is, it’s dangerous. And it might be exactly what Wrenly's been waiting for.

Maybe more like 4.5 stars, but when I tell you this book had me in such a goddamn chokehold I considered giving it 5 stars hahaha. I don't remember what time I started it, but I do know it is 8pm now and I have no idea where the time went. I remember eating dinner, but definitely haven't been drinking enough water.

This was such a fun read. I love how we actually get to see the love interest changing for her and curbing his obsessive/possessive tendencies to a manageable level for our main character. This is a slow burn and I love that not only did it take Wren time to even start falling for him, but that made it clear too that attraction is not affection! THANK YOU!

I do wish that the parents groveled more. We saw some change from the mom, but the fact that they never had her come home for breaks, never listened, and when she comes home at the beginning of the book aren't even there for her??? They just threw her at Bennett thinking all would work out between them? It shows just how much they never thought about her point of view of things only the werewolf one and their son who, granted, had been suffering for 12 years. I just wanted more from the parents.
And the brothers!! They had a close bond and yet we never get to see them and Wren together :( they were her only friends and she essentially had to start over...

This story is character driven, with the plot revolving around the main pair getting closer. I want to mention that even though Wren was fostered by the Wulfs, Bennett never claimed her as a sister and they didn't see each other for 12 years, so this isn't really a step-sibling romance. They really are more like acquaintances with bad blood, from Wren's POV. This is also only told through Wren's POV, WHICH I preferred. I think if I read Bennett's thoughts I'd be more sympathetic and I did not want to be. He needed to change and Wren needed to know he was changing. If we had switched to his thoughts, I think it would color the interactions differently and I didn't want to forget that Wren couldn't smell emotions and lies and just how much lack of communication she went through.

Story-wise there is a lot here that pushes that suspension of disbelief boundary. Like, how is a high school grad (with a few college courses) so damn good at finance and accounting that she was able to save the company billions in just a few weeks??? She was also a horrible assistant. I mean, that's the point, but like if she was his assistant, then who was scheduling his meetings? Because she never took calls lol.
I really find it hard to believe that Wren nor Bennett never came home during holiday breaks at school. For real??
The world also wasn't explained well, we were just thrown in. I think I was halfway through before I realized that shifters were known to humans and that werewolves aren't the only shifters in the world. Actually, besides Bennett freaking out and all the smelling going on, there is little shifter fantasy stuff going on. I would have enjoyed more wolf-time and learning about shifters.

Another important thing to note is that there is no on-page spice. There are some heavy make out scenes, tons of mentions of off-page, with maybe two on page acts that are briefly described. Bennett also has a horrible habit of pinning Wren to walls with her hands above her head. Like... all the time. It honestly got ridiculous.

But yeah, all in all this book had me 100% absorbed into the story and I already have the book featuring Bennett's friend on my TBR. This was my first book by this author and it will not be the last.

I was super disappointed with this one since I usually love this author. It was so repetitive- how many times can one girl get pinned against the wall, apparently it's Bennett's only move.

The story dragged on, it was the same conversations over and over again. Wrenly was selfish, bitter, antagonistic and kept pushing Bennett by teasing and provoking while repeatedly throwing in his face that she had no interest and was going to reject him. She was angry pretty much all the time at everyone, her personality was miserable all the way through to the end. She was concerned at times that he would rape her but then claimed he would never while continuing to provoke him and worry about his reactions???

She would constantly talk about being independent and having freedom but was quick to use her family's connections and money when it suited her in exchange for "deals" she would make with Bennett to take advantage of his desperation for the mate he's waited 12 years for. He definitely has his flaws but he persisted in trying to win her over and give her whatever she wanted.

She was always punishing and blaming her family, she didn't take much accountability for her part in anything and wouldn't communicate her problems properly. A lot of things just didn't add up- she had records of her abuse but didn't report it officially, just kept hiding it and playing the victim. She would say that Bennett wouldn't hurt her then freak out when he would shift and lock him up. She would contradict herself through her actions. I found her to be an unlikable character.

Every single woman hated her except for her family and her two friends (one of which initially disliked her) why authors have to perpetuate stereotypes like these, I don't know.

Trigger Warning!

The Lindal scene was disturbing and unexpected. She exchanged herself in a deal to get rid of Wrenly but was more akin to rape-there was blood and she was then bashed by him. The things she did to Wrenly were disgusting but this scene made me uncomfortable and I found it quite distasteful, enough so that I dropped another star just for that.

I was really into this book, until about 80%. It was just rinse, cycle, repeat. She kept saying she wasn't mad about what happened at school and she moved on. Then she wasn't afraid to throw it into her potential mate's face, at any given time.

I felt, after a point, he didn't deserve that. He didn't intentionally try to hurt her and she was awful at communicating. She just liked to see him "lose control", on purpose, just so she could run away. It made me feel like she didn't really deserve him. He was so sorry and could not say it enough. He did everything she asked and more. But she just kept playing mind games. I didn't think it made things "hotter" or gave them "sexual tension". It ended up dropping my rating, a lot.

Not only that, but the author made it seem like Wren was the only smart person in the room. How are wolf shifters so oblivious to obvious plots? It made no sense AND it made the "alphas" seem like "betas". It drove me crazy.

I was (as I said) very into this story and then it just fizzled out. I am not sure if I will read the next one either. Sophia seems very 'f the patriarchy!!!!' and I can see her having the exact same attitude as Wren, but worse.

Side note: Maybe change up a little variation of how he pins her against the wall with her hands above her head. I am not BSing when I say the author had him do that, probably 50 times. It wasn't sexy. It was repetitive.

Is this all just me? 🤔

This book was so good. I flew threw it. The only thing that would have made this story better would have been some POV's from the MMC. Also, the MFC was kinda annoying at times trying to deny her feelings. I can't wait for the next book in this series.

I absolutely love, love this book! Melissa hit another home run!

I have to say, that when I found out it was a CEO billionaire romance, I knew I wouldn't like it. Most of the ones I have read aren't my cup of tea. I don't like when the woman falls for the CEO billionaire right off the bat. That's not for me. Well... I should have known better when it comes to Melissa! I should never have doubted! This book slid into my number one spot! I will be rereading this book right away! I have never done that before! Not right after I finished it!

I am so excited it was a longer than normal book for her!

You will fall in love with Bennett. There is no doubt! In the end, he is everything an alpha male should be. I felt his frustration, though. And that's why I love reading anything from Melissa! I always 'feel' what the characters are going through!

Wrenly was easy for me to connect with. I love how she was written. When she finds out that her life has been a lie, and she goes through different emotions, I was right there with her! I felt her anguish! I felt her betrayal!

I cannot stress this enough! You will absolutely love this book! It has a lot of unique twists in it. But, how could it not, coming from the mind of Melissa Haag?! Brilliant, absolutely brilliant!

This was the book I didn’t know I needed. I had been in such a book slump and this story was everything. I loved how long it was and how the romance had such a great build up and didn’t feel rushed. I loved that it was a stand-alone. I hated putting this book down and can’t wait to read the next one.

Hard to rate

This book is hard for me to rate because outside some missing words and punctuation, the book was pretty well written. The writer did have some issues with the world building. She did not explain how the shifter lore worked in her world, and I was not even sure humans as a whole knew about shifters; it seemed at times they did, but it was never clear. Neither was the lore of how the mating bond worked. The writer just assumed the reader knew, and the problem with assuming is that there are different takes on shifter mate lore instead of a well-known understanding of the issue. However, none of these small issues are the reason for my rating, and before I get into that, I will say I finished the book, and I will give the second book a read too.

My problem with this book is I am not sure it is a romance. The blurb gives a different context to the story I just read. There is romance in it, but most of the book is just dealing with trauma and needing to feel as if the MFC is in control. I did not read about two people falling in love. I mostly read about how angry the MFC was, and it didn't always feel fair the blame and anger she through at the MMC. I have read stories like Cate C Wells, where the relationships started off in a hard place, and to make the relationship work, you needed to find that path of forgiveness and those felt like romances. This book felt more about the trauma; my stomach was tight, and I was stressed the whole book read. I think I would have like a more honest blurb and a trigger warning. There were too many bad emotions associated with this story, and the end was not happy enough to make up for that.

I also had a hard time with how little power the MMC had in this book. I do not think the reaction was balanced by the end of the book. It felt as if the MMC kept having to sacrifice all he wanted and who he was just to get the MFC to stay and not doom him as a reject mate. It is hard to explain this because I do believe that the MFC desired a say in her life and her boundaries, but by the end it was more about her getting whatever the MFC wanted and not them building a live together. The relationship was almost transactional, too. It was a little much for my liking and a bit cruel.

I loved how long the book was; the thicker the book, the better, in my opinion, but the spice was not there either. It was too innocent. The MFC did not know what was happening to her when the spice happened on the last 100 pages;that is how long it too to show up. It seemed to only consist of one act that favored the MFC. Nothing was given back to the MMC. The reader also never gets to be a fly on the wall when she finally loses the V card the first time. It is really disappointing.

The question for me was am I ranting this only 3 star because it is terrible as a romance but a good story that talks about trauma if that is your thing, or is the story just not my taste and is kind of unfair to rate. Idk, the next book seems to have as heavy themes in it, so I will discover then if I feel the same about the new book.

I’m struggling with my feelings about this one.

Firstly, great that Wrenly (terrible name btw! Only reminded me of GoT) was pushing back against the controlling way that Bennett and his family behaved with her early on. It made me mad, and I’m glad it made her mad too. However, I really struggle with the way she was portrayed to be more and more attracted to him whilst he still behaved like that - and the way she basically gave in to being kissed and touched and handled by this guy who was so controlling of her. It made me mad.

Did he seem to get the idea and change how he treated her? Yes. Did he ever actually let her go and fulfill the whole ‘if you love something, let it go’ that seemed to be building throughout the book? No. And to me, it felt like Wrenly trauma bonded with Bennett and just gave in to feeling loved and wanted rather than actually starting a healthy relationship.

Wrenly then starts messing with Bennett’s head when she pushes his control etc, and it feels a bit like manufactured angst at that point. She knows he’s struggling with his shifter mating desires. She knows he’s resisting it for her. She doesn’t (at first) actually want him. So why poke the bear? It just seems stupid and a fake way to build tension once she’s no longer angry at how he’s treated her.

I absolutely adored how Clay in Hope(less) by this author slowly won over his reluctant mate. He wouldn’t leave her alone, and pushed occasional boundaries, but never really tried to control Gabby the way the other werewolves around her did. Bennett on the other hand? He was the main culprit. I just struggled to ship this.

What I would have liked to see? Bennett get rejected. And then, with his mate bond gone, him actually give up on Wrenly and change to then win her over later in a human relationship. That would have resolved these issues for me. As it stands, I’m not sure I’ll read the next one.

All that said, I was gripped by this and read it til very late last night and finished today!

4.5/5 ⭐
Melissa Haag and Ali Hazelwood are two authors that have accomplished the "bring back men who yearn" in their male characters. Bennett Wulf YEARNED for 13 years for his mate who is also his foster sibling. If I didn't know any better, I would say Bennett's character invented yearning. He saw Wrenly on the news after she lost her (human) family in a house fire and knew she was his mate. The Wulfs went out to confirm that she was and Mrs. Wulf fell in love and decided to foster the little girl, who would become her daughter. Eventually Bennett's tendencies to protect his mate began to stifle Wrenly, so his parents sent him to boarding school. When he returned, Bennett and his parents worried those tendencies would continue to stifle her so Bennett found an all girls boarding school for Wrenly to attend. Unfortunately for Wrenly and Bennett, she suffered vicious bullying at that school, but never divulged specifics about it, only telling her foster family she wished to go home. They told her to stick it out, which broke her trust in her foster family and made her feel as though they didn't want her. And Bennett's insistence that she was "not his sister" compounded those feelings. Upon her return home from school, Wrenly desires only one thing: to go to college far enough away from her foster family. She attempts to get Bennett on her side to convince their parents to allow her to do so, not realizing he is what is keeping her around. He doesn't want to outright tell Wrenly she's his mate because she's never shown interest in him romantically, however he tries to show her his interest without pressuring her. But this only serves to widen the gap between them and make Wrenly feel trapped. As Bennett and their parents give Wrenly the freedom she so desperately craves, Wrenly accepts being Bennett's mate. They play a constant game of tug-of-war, with Bennett even encouraging Wrenly to not "hate her life. Fight to make it what you want till you love it". Wrenly gives as good as she gets and Bennett yearns, just alongside for the ride.

This one almost killed me! The “romance” was slow but mostly frustrating. It had the “miscommunication trope” and “unrequited love” half the book and because of this there was alot of groveling, saying sorry multiple times, i hate you, how can i make it up, and i will reject you threats. I didn’t connect or liked the female character because of her stubbornness but i respected her.—My problem was she never once acknowledged that she could have ended her “torture - her sadness /loneliness/bullying if she said the truth from the start and instead she blamed her family. She didn’t take any accountability and this could have been resolved with honesty earlier but her FREEDOM was more important so SHE chose to not say Anything and stay and endure. Her choice . Yet SHE blames her family and him - main love interest. But that was on her.

The second half of the book, He is groveling, finally knows the truth and is asking for forgiveness and looking ways to make it up. He genuinely didnt know that she was suffering. Now, he has issues( grumpy, pushy, dominant, zero communication) where he is not perfect and could have found better ways to make her like him..but he genuinely trys and she doesn’t. I wanted to love this book but i just found it frustrating. Does he work for her love? yes. Rightfully so? No.i personally thought it was unfair and me i would have left her immediately -give her the freedom she craved at the very beginning instead of groveling the entire book and found myself a different potential mate 😅. thats how unlikable and frustrating she was to me. I was over her. But he was genuinely trying so i stayed for him and his happily ever after.

Feeling unwanted her whole life especially by her stepbrother but fate has other plans for the two of them. Wrenly makes you want to reach in giving her a huge hug telling it will all work out a human growing up in a werewolf world she has been through a lot including growing up in an overprotective slightly controlling family who often made her feel as if she didn’t belong or wasn’t a part of the family and a stepbrother who was truly a headache (just reading about him gave me a headache in the beginning) but he grows on us. Bennett sexy as all get out stepbrother a pain for the most part but he does grow on us a typical brother at time but there are times he can leave her alone although he isn’t sure why he is drawn to her the way he and he know all she wants is her freedom away from them all. Wrenly gives herself a pep talk each day one more year and she can leave to get away from it all that is her mantra but it seems the closer she get to her to leaving the stranger things get but will she be able to leave, will things, situations, people stop her, derail her dreams, and will she ever find her place where she belong along with a little happiness?

What a fantastic start to what appears to be a thrilling series. Wrenly is such a great character, she has faced challenges that people shouldn’t face, and she is still strong enough to fight for what she wants. I will be honest Bennett at first did grate on me, but then you get to know him, and understand the real him and what has made him tick all these years and how he has tried his absolute best and you can’t help but feel won over by him. This is a great story about not fitting in, and finding your family and where you belong, this series will be a winner if it continues like this one. There are so many amazing characters in this story and I know we will hear from Sophie and Konni next, but I do hope we will get Miranda’s story soon as well, as she was someone who intrigued me way more that I thought she would when we initially met her.

Honestly, that dedication page got me. I felt it.

This story felt like a combination of all of my favorite Melissa tropes, but in a new way that didn’t feel like anything was being repeated. I love the way Melissa develops her characters in a way that gives them depth, makes them feel believable, but doesn’t bog down the storyline with too much unnecessary information.

The plot line progresses so naturally, that the connection between the two MCs doesn’t feel forced (in spite of Wrenly’s resistance).

This book was honestly exactly what I needed to get out of my reading funk. It’s lighthearted, just steamy enough, and fun with witty MCs. And I love that there are so many Easter eggs for potential spin-offs. I counted at least 4. Here’s to hoping they come out in rapid succession!

And Melissa is just hilarious. Leaving two of my favorite quotes:
“I glanced at the pot rack hanging over the island and cursed my five-foot-two-inch T-rex reach before following in his wake.”

“I took a sip to distract my face from subtitling my thoughts.”

Engaging Story but Annoying FMC

I like Melissa Haag’s books and found the relationship push and pull and mystery in the beginning well done. It was reasonable for Wrenly to feel the way she did and act out - however - once she knew what was going on and Bennett literally never did anything wrong but constantly apologize her behavior got annoying and old really fast. She never even considered trying to make it work and just was a b-tch constantly to someone who was nothing but caring and generous to her.

Spoiler - Also, there’s all this build up to them finally getting together and it’s just shoved into a quick epilogue after a very lengthy read of push and pull. Did a disservice to the reader/story.

I’m excited about the next book as I still enjoyed the book and world it’s set in, however I’m hoping this terrible FMC who doesn’t ever give isn’t repeated.

I love this new world Melissa Haag brought to life in His White Moonlight! It follows Wrenly, who’s human but grew up in a werewolf world. She really went through the wringer growing up as everyone pushed their overprotective natures on her and what they thought was best. The amount she endured made her resistance to everything and her drive for freedom completely understandable. And now she’s being forced to put up with Bennett around her all of the time, when she hardly saw him growing up. Their push and pull relationship really kept me reading! This is a long book, but I wished the end was longer than just the epilogue. This was a standalone, but hopefully these characters will show up in the sequel which I can’t wait to read!

What an amazing start to a new world! This book had me hooked from the get go and I struggled putting it down at bed time! I looooved the super slow burn, the world building and the insane chemistry.
Wrenly went through a lot, but she seemed to stay true to herself and was very self-aware. I also liked she could admit when she was wrong. Bennett was just *swoon*. He annoyed me a fair bit in the beginning with how controlling he could be, but I enjoyed watching his personal growth and the way his eyes opened to the repercussions of his actions. It had everything I needed - great romance, some sexy scenes (but nothing too crazy being NA), and an interesting plot with lots of fun and broody characters. So looking forward to Book 2 and Konni!

So wrenly is amazing she is like a women scorned and I love it. She doesn't fall all over Bennet like most shifter romance novels. She is true to her hart and what she wants. She doesn't roll over and say all is forgiven and that's the type of lead character that gets me reading. This is one of Melissa's best books in this category and its a must read.Ilove that she makes him wait 3 years to claim her and make all his wrong right. I love that she stays strong and doesn't fall for the mate bond like every other book I have read.

Obsessed!

I loved Bennett and Wrenly's story so much that I could not put this book down. No one can deliver the little stomach-clenching moments like Melissa Haag can. There's just something about the way her male characters interact with their mates that does it for me. This book is longer, but that's not a bad thing and keeps us out of the insta-love territory. Very excited for His Flash Mate.

4.5 stars. I enjoyed this book. It was addictive and I became annoyed when I had to do things that’s didn’t involve reading more of the story!!! But sadly it’s not acceptable to sit and read at my desk at work all day. I would have liked to read from Bennett pov at times but probably pretty obvious what he was thinking and feeling most of the time. I look forward to reading more about Konni and all the other characters in the next book for sure.

Good read

I always enjoy Melissa Haag books. They are always well written and full of action. The problem with this story is that it dragged. By the end I was skipping a few pages because I was really tired of Wrenly’s attitude towards Bennet. Her constant denial. It got old really quick for me. I don’t know if I would read another book like this one.

"His White Moonlight" by Melissa Haag is a fun and romantic read. A slow burn romance that will leave you wanting more. I love Wrenly and Bennett's story and was very well written by author, Melissa Haag. The side characters have so much "character" in their personality and their relationship with the MCs. I'm excited to read the next book by Melissa Haag.

It took me 3 days to get through this book. Mostly because the story dragged on, it was the same conversations over and over and over. Wrenly, with her ''letting go of the past'' yet used it when ever she could. The way she treated Bennett was a bit too much at times. Loved Grandma and Miranda though.

Wow!

What a great book. A nice twist on the fated mates trope. What happens when the human side of the fated mates doesn’t know/doesn’t want to complete the bond but wants her freedom. The backstory is well told and the characters are sharply drawn. You really identify with both the FMC and the MMC. And you want them to find their way to a happily ever after.

This was an entertaining read, a bit emotional from Wrenly's trauma and I liked Bennett as the MMC. The pacing felt a bit slow to me though and the ending was somewhat rushed in comparison. I also could not connect with the FMC.

So frustrating in all the right ways

This book grabbed me by the emotions and didn't let go. I had such sympathy for Bennett and the same amount of frustration with Wrenly.

But isn't an emotional reader the sign of a good book...

Not my jam, really immature FMC, meant to be 19, acts like 14. Really obtuse MMC, utterly oblivious to the impact his actions and completely ignorant of the character and life of the women who is supposed to be his mate and brought up with him, I DNF after about 1/4 of the book.
