Danger is the prevalent theme in The Bachelor and The Break-In as someone has had eyes on Brooks and Briar for years and the threats towards Briar are what pushed Brooks to leave her at the altar years earlier. Now she has been forced to steal for people she doesn’t know but who know her and every move she makes. She is now back in Brooks life but can he keep her safe this time around? Forgiveness, acceptance and finally love are the future for Brooks and Briar even through all the pain and heartache they have endured. They just need to neutralize the threat looming over them.

This was a cute, easy read, though maybe a bit too easy. This story had a potential to have more depth, tension and angst.

Alas, it was just a simple romance story with a pretty underdeveloped criminal storyline. Speaking of: Pascal fell for a distraction towards the ends so fast and so stupidly, he lost all credibility in my eyes. I have no experience in that industry and even I know you never pull your entire security detail from the main target. Never.

Still, I liked the story enough to come back for Thorn and River next.

5 Star Review The Bachelor & The Break-in (Eagles Hockey: Oak Ridge Vineyards #3) by Elise Faber

Book three in the latest Eagles Oak Ridge Vineyards series and was a wonderful addition.

I enjoy second chance and grumpy hero stories so this was a win for me.

Brooks and Briar have a complicated past so if they can come to terms with it, will they be able to move forward and in doing so create a future together?

A well paced story that ticked all the boxes for me.

Universal

5 years ago, Briar had her heart shredded on her wedding day when her fiancé Brooks said "I Don't" instead of I Do. In those 5 years since, life hasn't been good for her, to say the least. Her life took on a dark turn when he walked away, and she's spent the time doing unspeakable things, forced to do them by horrible people. Then one night her job brings her back into Brooks' orbit, and now he doesn't want to let her go. She can't think of forgiving him, but yet she can't seem to stop loving him.

Brooks walked away from Briar to protect her, or at least that's what he's been telling himself ever since. But now that she's back, he can plainly see that her life hasn't been the one he had thought it would be. She definitely doesn't look like she's had a good life since, and it makes him even more determined to protect her this time. He knows he should let her go now to keep her safe, let his security team whisk her away to somewhere no one can get to her, but maybe that's not what his (or her) heart wants.

My God but Briar's story broke my heart. Tossed aside by the person she had thought she would spend the rest of her life with, then a sinister family took over her life and forced her to do unspeakable things? Yeah she handled everything a lot better than I would have. The only thing she did I didn't like, was forgive Brooks far, far too soon. I love her, her strength and her will to survive. Brooks not so much. I'm still mad at him and don't think much of his redemption arc. I can get behind Briar's forgiveness, but only because she deserved love, even if it was with someone who didn't do anything to deserve her. To help ease the way for this second chance, Brooks' found family unit makes an appearance (Jean-Mi and Tiff and Marie and Jace), plus wonderful additions who are I think next - River and Thorn. Suspense, second chances and love make for another great installment of the Oak Ridge Vineyards series, and I'm impatiently waiting for the final couple next to fall in love.

This story really had me conflicted... I loved it, yet I couldn't truly get behind the 'romance'.

MMC/FMC: Brooks and Briar

Tropes:
* Dark themes
* Billionaire romance
* Small town romance
* Second chance
* Suspense

Plenty of content that is distressing, so be warned.
Mentions of abduction, assault, coercion, manipulation, trafficking, organised crime.
Gaslighting... so much gaslighting.

That first chapter hooked me, chewed up my heart, and spit it out.
I had so many thoughts and emotions while reading this…. And first and foremost was rage and disbelief.

“I don’t.”

Five years ago, Brooks humiliated, destroyed and abandoned Briar on their wedding day. He thought he was protecting Briar, and just walked away, assuming that what little action he did to protect her would do the job.
Little did he know that the threats he was receiving transferred to her, and she spent the next five years going through hell.

This was such an emotional story. Ups and downs, betrayal, forgiveness and second chances.

Now… my personal thoughts, and these made it very hard for me to actually get behind the romance. The suspense and overall storyline, yes. The romance and resumption of their relationship? No.

I actually felt that the initial action was pretty bad, but what came after made him irredeemable to me.
He left, moved on with his life, made a success of his career, and obviously had other relationships, which was made very clear in the next time we got his POV after the incident.

HE. DID. NOT. CHECK. ON. HER.

He left other people to do that, and even they didn’t do it. That spoke volumes to his claim of:

“I’m the man who never stopped loving you.”

Nope. He was off, feeling safe and living his best life while hers was being systematically destroyed, after he had already ruined her. He had ZERO intentions of going back to her, and they only ended up in each other’s lives again through ‘chance’.

“I was just trash casually tossed aside.”
Briar… I hurt so badly for her. The way everything has fallen apart, and the actions that she has to take… it was devastating. After the life that she led from childhood, full of violence, rejection and abandonment… I wanted her to find her own HEA away from him.

I didn’t like the gaslighting.
“But I hurt him, too. Not just physically. I stole from him, turned over incriminating information to people who don’t hesitate to dish out pain.”

She took on blame for things that she had no real choice in, and it felt like this thought process was thrown in to make it easier for them to move along. Her accepting his actions, and not truly losing her mind at him, just didn’t ring true. There should have been some kind of major grovel, instead of hooking up, forced proximity and allowing her trauma to make decisions for her. He claimed that he was sorry, but I just didn't feel it.

So… my verdict.

The story itself, based on how well it pulled me in, drew my emotions… Easily a 5-star.
The romance… a 2 at a stretch. Not even that high.

THE BACHELOR AND THE BREAK-IN is the third instalment in Elise Faber’s contemporary, adult EAGLES HOCKEY: OAKRIDGE VINEYARDS erotic, cross over romance series. This is billionaire businessman Brooks Saxton, and Briar’s story line. THE BACHELOR AND THE BREAK-IN can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty. Any important information from the previous story lines is revealed where necessary.

NOTE: Due to the nature of the story line premise, there may be triggers (off page) for more sensitive readers.

Told from dual first person perspectives (Brooks and Briar) THE BACHELOR AND THE BREAK-IN follows in the aftermath of the wedding that never happened. Five years earlier, Brooks Sexton walked out of his wedding to the woman he loved leaving a heart broken Briar behind. Fast forward five years, Briar has returned, a woman destroyed by betrayal and abuse, a woman broken by the people she thought would help her survive. Brooks had his reasons for walking away but in doing so brought more danger into the life of our story line heroine, a woman who is forced to betray the only man she had ever loved.

The world building focuses on the past but barely touches the who, how or why. Brooks Sexton walked away in an effort to protect our story line heroine but never suspected the fall-out would destroy the woman he loved.

The relationship between Brooks and Briar is one of second chances but Briar is struggling with issues of trust; fears repercussions and vengeance from Brooks family and friends, but Briar is no longer under her own control, and the people in charge have threatened everyone she has every loved. The $ex scenes are passionate and intense without the use of over the top, sexually graphic language and text.

Ontce again, there is a large ensemble cast of colorful and familiar secondary and supporting characters including the return of billionaire jean-Michel Dubois, his daughter Chrissy and her husband Rome (Knotted Laces / Eagles Hockey 1), Jace Henderson and Marie Austen (Beauty and the Boardroom), Thorn Wilkenson, Rory and River.,and Jean Michel’s ex Angela Rosseau. Thorn and River’s story is next.

THE BACHELOR & THE BREAK-IN is a story of secrets and lies, betrayal and vengeance, power and control, family and relationships, forgiveness and love. The character driven premise is intriguing and dramatic but there is no resolution to the story line conflict-or reasons given for the entrapment of our story line heroine. The romance is seductive but Brooks needed to do more grovelling 😉. The characters were determined and desperate.

Once again, the redundancy of nicknames and pet names cannot be ignored-baby is used 54 times, Raindrop 19 times, and Buttercup 12 times.

Kittens😺 Killers 🔪and Kisses 💋 all come together in this Second Chance Romance

Briar was dumped at the altar years ago by her supposedly forever love, Brooks
The man who had rescued her from hell.
The man who promised she would never again be hurt.

He lied!

His decision that day would lead to her life once again becoming a living, breathing nightmare.
One that she could not escape from, no matter how hard she tried
And she tried. She had the scars to show for her attempts.
When her newest assignment is Brooks, she finds herself facing her past and her future.

Brooks meant well the day he walked away; he truly believed he was protecting her.
Now that he knows the truth, he has no intentions of letting her go ever again.

Everything happens pretty fast here. There is not a lot of detail about what happened during those five years to Briar, but we do get the basics. I highly recommend reading the books before this one so you can get the intended experience. There is a lot of backstory in the previous books that isn't covered in this one.

I want to say it is a quick read, but I think it was just that I couldn’t put it down
This is one of those second-chance romances where he thinks it's okay to make decisions that affect both their lives because he is "protecting" her, only for that decision to go completely FUBAR, and all those best intentions fly right out the window.

I so loved Briar’s character. She has lived through virtual hell and still has a heart of gold.
Watching her embrace each new chance to heal, stripping herself of the bonds that imprison her.
Add in the opportunity to watch Brooks as he steps up and fulfills his promises to her
*heart melt*
They were just so good together.

There is some angst and some suspense, as well as a little surprise visit from our maybe/maybe not villainess
However, I felt like their reconnection and Briar's healing were really the focus here.

I highly recommend the series.
Packed with such wonderful characters that stay with you long after you close the pages.
Each new episode adds to the mystery and keeps the reader guessing.

Who is behind the sabotage?
How are they getting past their defences?
What is really happening with our villainess?
Is she a willing participant, or is she being coerced?
Find out in the next episode ...

(I couldn't resist) Just one click, you won't be disappointed.

The Bachelor & the Break-In by Elise Faber delivers a beautifully layered second-chance romance that blends emotional depth, protective alpha energy, and just enough danger to keep the stakes high. This is the kind of story that reminds you that love doesn’t fade just because time passes—it waits, it aches, and sometimes it demands to be fought for.

The hero is a classic billionaire alpha male: confident, powerful, and deeply protective. Years ago, he made the heartbreaking choice to walk away from the woman he loved, believing that leaving her was the only way to keep her safe. What makes this story so compelling is that his sacrifice didn’t work. The danger never truly disappeared, and when it resurfaces, he’s forced to confront the truth—walking away hurt her far more than staying ever could have.

Their reunion is charged with unresolved emotions, lingering chemistry, and the weight of everything left unsaid. The push and pull between them feels real, and the emotional growth on both sides is satisfying to watch unfold. Elise Faber does an excellent job balancing vulnerability with strength, allowing both characters to shine while still leaning into that swoony, protective dynamic romance readers love.

The suspense element adds urgency without overshadowing the romance. The danger feels real, the stakes are high, and watching the hero step fully into his role—not just as a protector, but as a partner—is incredibly rewarding. This isn’t just about saving her physically; it’s about proving that love is worth choosing, even when it’s risky.

If you enjoy second-chance romances with billionaire heroes, strong emotional arcs, and a storyline where the alpha male truly has to earn his redemption, The Bachelor & the Break-In is well worth the read.

This is the third book in the series Eagles Oak Ridge Vineyards by Elise Faber and I am going to tell you right away that it is a book you have to be prepared for. It is going to touch on some very sensitive topics that not everyone can handle when it comes to reading a romance book. There are lies, danger, abuse, broken hearts, betrayal, threats, blackmail and more. You need to go into this book with an open mind but also know it is okay to walk away from it and read it later. Because honestly that is what I had to do. I realized after reading a short amount that I would need to be in the right mood in order to read this book until the end.

Briar thought she was in love and about to marry the man of her dreams, but instead of saying “I Do”, Brooks said “I Don’t” and walked away from her. It wasn’t just heartbreak, it was rage. Especially since the only way she had to survive was doing things you wouldn’t want your worst enemy to do. Things that would haunt her forever, especially when one job required her to go back into Brooks life. Would she be able to handle being there and walk away with ease? Or would her heart overrule everything as she fell in love with him again?

Brooks thought he was doing the right thing 5 years ago when he pushed Briar out of his life unexpectantly. But little did he know, it wasn’t, in fact it made her life worse. Because these people didn’t just want to hurt Brooks, they also wanted to hurt Briar and anyone else they came in contact with. When Briar suddenly appeared back in his life, he knew he had to take the chance. The question was would she let him? They were meant to be together, they just had to work through a whole lot of things in order for it to happen. Things that could put their lives into danger.

Thanks to the Wildfire Marketing and the author for an ARC of this book in exchange for my honest review.

Heart shattering love

The Eagles Hockey: Oak Ridge Vineyard series just became more addictive with book #3, THE BACHELOR & THE BREAK-IN. This enemies to lovers, touch her and die, forced proximity, billionaire, second chance romance was emotional, raw, and heartbreaking, yet I couldn't put it down.

Your wedding day is meant to be one of the happiest of your life, but for Briar Elilis it was the beginning of a downward spiral. All it took was two words from Brooks Saxton for her heart to shatter and her world to turn upside down. Brooks thought the decision he made was the only way he could save Briar from the approaching danger. How wrong he was. For five years he thought she was safe, but Briar was living through hell, and now their paths were crossing again and Brooks was learning the truth. Briar is again in danger and this time Brooks takes it upon himself to protect her, but the feelings of the past are resurfacing, and he's determined to show her he still loves her even though she now detests him. Will she believe him?

Elise Faber's story is one of history, forgiveness, understanding, growth, redemption, and refound love. She had me devouring this story easily with the characters, the found family vibes, the emotions which were raw and gritty, and the anticipation of what was coming next. My heart was shattered from the outset, and boy did Ms. Faber have to work hard to redeem herself and Brooks. This was a beautifully written story which captivated every inch of my heart.

When I got this arc I was really excited. As it started off it was a little different than I was expecting. You met the two main characters on what was suppose to be their wedding day. However, he couldn’t go through with it and at the time he looked like a jerk. However, as the story goes on you find out why he couldn’t do it. After 5 years, she renters his life but not how he expected it. She broke into his house, stole from him and roughed him up good. Then the next time you see her she is about to do something she shouldn’t. You find out in those years that they were apart, she fell on hard times and she fell into the wrong group and they bring her into it and no matter how hard she tries to get out, they do things to her that make it harder for her to get out.
The night they found each other he takes her home to protect her because he finds out what’s happening.
During the time she spends at his home, she learns what it’s like to still be loved and how they still have a very big connection to each other. His friends fall in love with her and they are all there to protect her. There are some funny moments, (insert a bunch of kittens and a grumpy man).
At the end of all this, help comes the least expected person and they learn how they were brought back together. While they are cute together, I’m really not sure how this all connects to this series. This wasn’t the old of story I was expecting and there was definitely some dark and mafia vibes that I didn’t see coming. While I still love this author, I wasn’t a fan of this book unfortunately.

Brooks and Briar, two really great romance character names. His name makes it seem like he’s just this stand-up, protective, caring man. And Briar makes me think of sleeping beauty frankly, that quie young lady just waiting for her Prince to come and wake her up.
So let me start with what I liked. I like the suspense of this story. I liked the darker elements, even though they were hard to read. It gave me something to be mad about, and proof that the good guys could win. Because the romance part of this book, was not doing it for me.
Brooks wasn’t stand up caring or protective. Only he thought he was being protective, by dumping prior on their wedding day. He wasn’t. Did he secretly keep an eye on her? Did he make sure she was OK? Nope. Because if he had checked in on her, he would know she was anything but OK.
And then there was Briar. For somebody who was abandoned for five years, she let him get back under her skin really quickly. I mean, I get it, romance is all about second chances in love finding a way. But yeah, neither one of them thrilled me.
I did like the twist and turns, and the mystery of the storyline. It was well written, and I’m sure a lot of people are gonna like it more than I did. But I didn’t walk away from this book thinking it was this grand romance. And honestly, that’s disappointing for me. Closer to 3.5 than 4, but I rounded up because I love the author.

This is yet another smash hit from Elise, but this time the story is a little bit darker in its plot and in the MCs' back stories. Of course, I welcomed that bit of change, but definitely the intense, protective love so characteristic of Elise's leading men continues to enrapture me as it did in this book. I've always enjoyed second-chance romances, and the MCs in this book - Brooks and Briar - definitely had that, and given their shared past they've definitely deserved it.

It was this shared past of the MCs that made me wish more of it had been included in the story. Brooks and Briar apparently had endured a significant amount of pain following their separation many years earlier, but I was left wondering what really took place during that time. I was also left wanting to know more as well about the time in Briar's life that took place before she'd met Brooks, for that apparently had shaped much of who she was and how she handled her experiences in the aftermath of her separation from Brooks.

Notwithstanding, I enjoyed once again the frequent appearances of characters featured in earlier books in the series. Their presence helped to seamlessly tie the plotline weaving the series together, and I enjoyed the surprises that appeared along the way.

I am a recipient of a free review copy of this book. I offer this review voluntarily.

It is advertised as Eagles Hockey, which I expected it to be based on sports detailing but it isn't. It is confusing to read as there are a lot of characters and the plot is detailed in some areas, but little explanation. It may be different and easier to understand if I hadcread the previous books in this series.
Brooks leaves Briar at the altar, literally, with no apology. Five years later she is breaking and entering his house to steal from his safe..not for her, but for 'them'..but not sure who 'they' are safe for being cruel, controlling and dangerous. The Lyons are named and mentioned but with little context. The power 'they' hold over people is extraordinary and few seem to be able to do much about it, despite how much wealth or security they own.
There are few details to explain what exactly these people want and why they are so feared, yet nothing substantial beneath it.
Brook has been abused and bears the scars, yet there is little else as to why or for what, save for they could and did.
The basic concept and characters are good. The couple still love each other despite what has happened between them and the reaction to each other is encouraging to indicate they now have a future together. A second chance.

What a beginning and what a story that is the third installment in this series. I didn't know what to expect but it was an enthralling suspenseful read that had that romance in it and that kept you on your toes. The relationship between Brooke & Briar was complicated but a love that is strong can end in triumph in the end of it all. An emotional ride that you simply cannot miss.

Brooks & Briar were about to be married but Brooks walked away. After several years, Briar is back but there's so much going on in her life. A lot has changed and while she tries to keep her head above water, she doesn't know how to get away. When she comes face to face with Brooks again, there's just something between them that still pulls them towards each other. Brooks never thought he would see Briar again but as he sees that something is wrong and he tries to help her anyway he can but the situation is very complicated and dangerous; something he hoped to protect her from. They're trying to navigate everything but also hope that they can make sure everyone's safe from harm while rebuilding their relationship. Will it all be okay in the end and will they get a second chance?...

This series has been intriguing, heart-stopping and one that will have you sitting on the edge of your seat. In The Bachelor & the Break-in we are told the story of Briar and Brooks, two people who have a past that left hearts shattered.
Right from the start, I felt this one was going to play with my emotions and I was correct. So many heartbreaking moments where I wanted to hug Briar and, at times, kick Brooks to the curb. The struggles she had to endure and how she became stronger, yet at the same time more vulnerable. Then we have Brooks, the man who turned her world upside down, which led her down the path of destruction. We do learn why he did what he did and he does redeem himself. The love these two shared in the past is still smoldering beneath the surface, and Brooks is determined to show her that he has always loved her and wants to protect her and seek revenge on the people who changed her world for the worse.
This book was not all laughs and good times, but one of determination, growth, and finally getting back to the person you were meant to be with

Eagles Hockey: Oak Ridge Vineyards #3

This book will hook you in at the beginning and send you on an emotional roller coaster. Your heart will break for Briar and you will hate Brooks and how he treated her. Why? Because he loved her and wanted to keep her safe so he walked away. Except, that's not what happened. Did he ever check on her to make sure she was safe, no and that makes me angry. I understand why he did what he did just not the way it went down. I still loved the story.
I love how characters from the other stories were included. Looking forward to the next story in this series.

It's the happiest day of Briar's life, it's her wedding day to Brooks Saxton. Well it was happy until he utters the words, "I don't " instead of "I do" and walks away. "I'm a monster. I'm going to destroy her."

Brooks thought he was protecting Briar but instead the past five years have been pure agony and torture for her. She is back at "their" house to get information to take him down. She's definitely not the same person she was five years ago.

💔 Five Years of Heartbreak, One Shot at Forever 💔

Have I told you lately how much I love Elise Faber’s writing? Because every single time, she lures me in with hope, absolutely destroys me emotionally, and then somehow stitches my heart back together with a five-star-plus HEA. And The Bachelor & the Break—book three in the Eagles Hockey: Oak Ridge Vineyards series—does exactly that… and then some.

That prologue? Brutal. What should have been the happiest day of Briar and Brooks’ lives ends in devastating heartbreak. Cue the tissues—plural. Fast forward five years, and when these two are forced back into each other’s orbit, the pain of what happened (and what didn’t happen) comes crashing down. What Briar has endured in those years will absolutely wreck you, and learning the choices Brooks made—thinking he was doing the right thing—only adds to the gut-wrenching chain of events that tore them apart.

Now Brooks has a second chance. But second chances aren’t simple, especially when the past still bleeds and danger lurks at the edges of the present. The tension, the longing, the what ifs—Elise Faber makes you feel every single one.

At the heart of this story (and the entire series) is friendship—the found family surrounding Brooks and Briar, grounding them, supporting them, and reminding them of who they truly are. These two are soulmates. No question. But getting to their HEA? Expect rivers of tears, emotional punches to the chest, and a whole lot of love along the way.

I genuinely cannot believe we only have one book left in this series. If you love second-chance romance, hockey heroes, deep emotional scars, and an HEA that feels earned, The Bachelor & the Break is unmissable. 💔🏒💖

A piece of advice... don't start this book at 10 pm thinking that you'll read the first chapter and go to bed because the reality is you will find yourself turning pages at 2 am with your partner telling you to turn out the light so they can sleep while you figure out how to squeeze in one more page that turns into a chapter before your partner literally pulls the plug for the light out of the socket and makes the decision for you. Yep... this book will draw you in like moth to flame and hold your emotions hostage as Briar lives through the aftermath of Brooks leaving her at altar, thinking he saved her but really sending her to hell. His remorse over her pain and fear full the emotional arc of this story that will leave you invested in their HEA and with tears in your eyes more times than I can count.

This part of a larger interconnected series and while it is a solid standalone, it will be better if read in order.

The Bachelor & the Break-in is the first book in this series I’ve read, so I was a bit lost in the first third of the book. The opening chapter totally had me hooked and I understood the relationship between Brooks and Briar but didn’t get the sinister forces at work behind the scenes and how they fitted into the overall picture. That said, for me all the action was in the back half, the good relationship stuff, the unravelling of the “Lyons” but not maybe why they are targeting this group of people.
I loved both Brooks and Briar as characters and that their actions were done to protect or for necessity, even if they weren’t necessarily the right ones, the intentions set up an arc of forgiveness.
The kittens provide some much needed lightheartedness and the many secondary characters I found as overwhelming as Briar did initially but add much to the story. The events in the end set up book 4 nicely and hopefully there the questions I’m left with from this book will be answered.

The Bachelor and the Break in is a fabulous read. I could not get enough of this one. This is Brooks book in the Eagles Hockey: Oak Ridge Vineyards series. I love the added suspense throughout this series so much. This is a second chance with danger added in that keeps you guessing who is behind pulling all the strings in the series. Brooks thought he was doing the right thing by leaving Briar the way he did. Briar is a fighter and a survivor throughout her life and finally thought she'd found her place with Brooks until he walked away. This was an interesting story; it was engaging, with a second-chance romance, an intriguing plot, and we loved the characters.

The story had an emotional aspect to it that we loved; the mystery and suspense in the story were constant, with a plot twist we really enjoyed.

There is an ongoing plot that stays in the forefront of the story, where we start to get answers, but the mystery continues.

Briar was a character who engages your heart. The pain and suffering she endured is heartbreaking, as she was such a beautiful soul, and we loved the fact that Brooks found family welcomed her into the fold so willingly.

Brook has a lot to atone for in this story to get back the woman he loves; seeing to Briar's protection is not enough its about gaining one's trust again.

The characters from other stories graced the pages in this current plot, making it more enjoyable as we always love seeing previous characters that we have come to love.

This is the third book in the series. This book had me on the edge of my seat for most of this book. Man what Briar goes through in this one broke my heart. For everything Brooks sacrificed to have what happened made me want to scream in frustration for the lost years, but it does work out. Briar and Brooks are no longer the people in love years ago, but you can't deny their deep connection is still there. I loved watching them fall in love all over again. I was a giggly school girl when the foster kittens entered the picture because of the cuteness, but one special kitten in particular Violet. That kitten has me excited for for what is to come for our grumpy gentle giant. Such a great cast of characters. This group has been through a lot, but I love the sense of humor they keep with good hearts. The danger isn't over, it's still lurking. I can't wait for the next book in the series.

Brooks walked away from the only woman he ever loved and never thought he would see her again. Even though he broke her heart, his was broken as well. After he walked away her life became very hard and she is simply surviving at this point. Briar is tasked with breaking in to his house and stealing something, which she does, but things don't go quite as planned.
This book is packed with action, heartbreak, and redemption. The reason he walked away was noble, but ultimately worthless. The reason she hates him proves to be invalid once she learns why he left her. The fall of the family trying to bring down Brooks and his group of friends is the big chunk of the action, byt the reason why still remains to be seen. This group of found family/friends is fantastic and even the one person we are supposed to hate is showing some form of redemption. I can't wait to see what happens next

Briar is forced to break into a man's house she knows intimately. Brooks. The man who left her at the altar. The man who totally ruined her. Fighting him was not in the cards. Falling in love with him again was not something she wanted.

Let's first say that Brooks is a jerk. Does he change in this book? Sure. But I wasn't sure I thought Briar should have accepted his apology so easily. He needed to protect her once again, this time without letting her go.

The one thing I loved about this book is the inclusion of characters from the previous books. It really ties this series together and shows that family is not just blood. These friends have been there for one another and have helped each other through tough times. Now it was the time to help Briar. That felt real, and it felt like they wanted to see Brooks and Briar happy.

The start of this book was shattering! Briar's deep love for Brooks is destroyed in a matter of minutes in the fundamental way! I had absolutely no idea where the book would go from here and what would happen to these two. The results are horrendous for Briar, though not as damaging for Brooks, though he does not forget her. My heart was in my mouth as the events unfolded, and I did find myself somewhat disappointed in Brooks, who did not live up to my expectations he would protect her!
This is a story filled with intense emotions, jeopardy by the mile, but also the joy of found family and the grains of hope for the future. I love this gathering of caring, committed men and women and their relationships. I did feel that the resolution was a bit rushed and lacked the punch that the situation needed. All that being said, I loved the book, and that epilogue 😍

This is the third book in this impressive series, and this is Brooke and Briar’s journey.
Brooke’s is powerful and untouchable, and he destroyed Briar when he jilted her at the altar. Now 5-years later, Briar is surviving and is haunted as she is forced to do things nobody should have to, and her target of now Brooke, who catches Briar with her hands in his safe.
Be aware of the trigger warning due to sensitive content!
This is a well written story which has friendships, emotions, secrets, betrayal, lies, heartbreak, survival, extortion, danger, action, suspense, intrigue, touch her an die vibes, enemies / lovers, challenges, second chances, determination, romance, undeniable chemistry, and love, which leads to an entertaining, twisted, and unpredictable, addictive page turner.
I look forward to reading more from this talented author whose work I highly recommend.

I always enjoy reading Elise's books. This book was no different! I did feel like I had to go back and remember the prior Oak Ridge books in the series, but once I did it was all flowing back to me quickly.

The drama and suspense in the book really brought it! I love how even though Briar was strong, she became even stronger through out the book though she acknowledge that she needed the trauma therapy and help. And Brooks, though you were made about the decisions he had made in the past, even though it was to protect Briar, he deeply regretted making them and not being stronger in the end.

Brooks and Briar's love story may have started out as heartbreak and gut wrenching in the beginning, it truly ended how it should have and gave you all the feels because Brooks is definitely a guy we all wish we had!

“The Bachelor and the Break-in” is the third book in the Oak Ridge Vineyards series by Elise Faber.

At the beginning of the book, in the Prologue, we meet Briar and Brooks, the two main characters, 5 years earlier, at what was to be their wedding. However, Brooks breaks her heart by leaving her at the alter. Fast forward 5 years. Briar is once again in a bad place in her life, doing crimes that are assigned to her by the mysterious “Lyons”. Many characters from previous books are part of this book. There is an overarching storyline that continues from previous books through this one, that still isn’t resolved. But Briar’s and Brooks’ love story is completed beautifully.

I definitely recommend this book, which is told in dual POVs, allowing the reader to understand the emotions both characters are feeling as they reconnect and get their second chance at love.

The Bachelor & the Break-in, book three in the Oak Ridge Vineyards series follows Brooks Saxton and Briar Dulvaney. Five years ago, Briar and Brooks stood on a mountaintop about to say “I do” but when Brooks said “I don’t” instead, leaving Briar behind, something inside her shattered. Alone, and vulnerable, she became caught up in a group of people who wanted nothing more than to take out the wealthy, exposing secrets and blackmailing them into doing what they want. When Briar is sent to rob her former fiancé, she doesn’t expect to run into him in the process.. or to still feel anything but hatred for Brooks. When Brooks sets out to help Briar instead of turning her in, things begin to come out in the open, and Brooks, along with Jace and Jean-Michael, work together to find a way to keep Briar safe and back where she belongs.. with Brooks.
