Leah Lawrence is actually excited by her latest school assignment - create a short film based on an event in her town's past.
Leah and her group decide to base their film on Julian Harvey. He was sent to jail fifteen years earlier for putting razor blades inside toffee and handing them out at Halloween, injuring several people. After he was released from jail, he vanished.
When word gets out about Leah's film, she starts receiving ominous text messages, and becomes the target of several mysterious incidents.
Somebody out there doesn't want this film to get made.
What really happened fifteen years ago? Where is Julian Harvey now? Why is somebody working so hard to keep the truth buried?
Leah must uncover fifteen years worth of secrets and lies before she finishes the film - and before somebody finishes her for good.

Hi, my name is Paul Phillips.
If you were a fan of Point Horror, Nightmare Hall, Fear Street or the myriad other 90s YA horror books, then my work should be right up your alley!
My books are approximately 50,000 words in length and although set in the fictional town of Howlett, are all stand-alone stories. (Unless I one day write a sequel!)
I hope my books can provide some quick, harmless fun for those after a bit of 90s YA horror-style nostalgia, or those who are up for some cheap thrills and spills without having to commit to a 400-page book.
It wasn't until after I finished this that I realised I don't think the book ever indicated if it actually took place during Halloween! So it didn't quite have that Halloween-y feel I was after. You know - carved pumpkins, trick-or-treaters etc etc.
But as a mystery thriller it was great! Lots of twists and turns that I didn't see coming. I was gripped to the end.
Exellent book. First time reading this author and I've downloaded his other books! So many twists and turns, kept me reading every day. Very similar in style to the books of my youth, Point Horror or R L Stine.
Set around a crime that happened at Halloween 15 years earlier, with teens that stir up bad memories and accidently put themselves in danger, what a great read! The characters were likeable although at one point I was sure they were all guilty ha. Ha.
I had no idea who the bad guy was, and the end was a true surprise! I was so happy the ending was finished of with thourough explination, I like that in a book after my emotions have been pulled in. Thank you for a very enjoyable read, with enough action, humour, romance and teen angst, thriller and horror, and mystery all in one book! I found this book on Amazon, after searching for kindle Halloween themed reads. I am recommending this author to friends and online!
As the first project I ever completed, this book is pretty special to me.
I miss the days of my youth in the 90s, when I could hop into the bookstore a couple of times each month and spend $5.95 on a 160-page mystery thriller. There was SO much choice back then. Fear Street, Point Horror, Nightmare Hall, Horror High, Terror Academy, Nightmare Club, Scream, Zodiac Chillers....the list goes on and on.
So "Halloween Candy" came about as my tribute to books from that time. Simple, fast-paced mysteries or thrillers of about 50, 000 words.
I thought up the title first, and went from there. I need a title before I can write anything!
The urban legend about finding razor blades or poison in Halloween treats is a popular and long-standing one, so I knew that would form the basis of the story. I even surprised myself with some of the turns the story took.
I actually thought that this story was pretty good. It kind of made me not want to eat anything that I hadn't made for myself for a while. The ending was even a shock for me. I didn't figure out who was behind everything until the characters did.
