Neal Collins is a charming ladies' man whose street smarts and business savvy propel him to a position of power and respectability amidst Detroit's neighborhood turf battles and corruption. He has the toughness, cunning, and intelligence to take advantage of opportunities that make him a force to be reckoned with. But he also has powerful enemies who will stop at nothing to take away the successful empire he has built. And the one thing Neal wants most is still out of his reach-the love of his life, Shari Grant. Shari loves Neal with the passion of a woman who has known what it's like to lose everything and come back stronger than ever. She is the one woman Neal cannot control. Beautiful, educated, and hardworking, she refuses to become dependent on Neal or sit at his table begging for the crumbs of his life. While the two navigate the pathways of loss, betrayal and attempts at finding a compromise that would get them to the love part of life, Neal and Shari must finally come together to deal with outside complications that pose a threat not only to their business interests, but to their lives. They are forced to put their personal issues aside and launch a daring plan to rid Detroit of a criminal element, all the while ensuring that their loved ones aren't caught in the aftermath.

Carl W. Buechner once said “they may forget what you said, but they will never forget how you made them feel."
Neal Collins knows how to make folks feel not just good but proud. He didn’t just give people what they thought they were entitled to, they had to come up with a business case and he would nurture their dream. But of course there was some who didn’t get it. It’s always the people who don’t want to put in the work.
But for as many people he had around him who had a cross to bear, there were those who loved him for the man he is. Neal stood for social justice the idea of revitalizing a community, a building or someone’s life was his gift. He amassed many political connections and wealth in real estate due to his business savvy and he knew how to take care of people. But not everyone has an eye for revitalization and once you put your bling on something it begins to look good to others and they hatch plans to take your gains.
With all of his connections and money Neal had a hole in his soul and it wasn’t until the threat of that hole growing bigger did he realize what his next step needed to be. Brown has done a wonderful job of sharing her love for writing about the broken and allowing readers to see glimpse’ of hope in the cracks.

I loved this story of love for family, community. Neal Collins is the man and the love of his life is truly his match. I you love a story about love and forgiveness this is the read for you. Neal and Shari's love story is amazing, I know from the beginning that they truly love each other, but would have to go through something for them both to realize how much they really love each other. Because it is so hard to write a review without being a spoiler that's all I'm going to say.

Neal Collins calls the shots can a good looking bad boy. He will take you on a journey. Who side will you be on? This book is a great read which gives background to Detroit's bad economy and how a person tries to make a difference in their community on their terms. So you either going to love the dark side or want the sunshine? Read to find out what the phrases truly mean!

Literary Fire

A five star read if ever I have read one. Joyce Brown's characters were dynamic from hero Neal to heroine Shari. This book was capturing from beginning to end ,with spine tingling action, trash talking, and sibling rivalry. I thoroughly enjoyed the book and YOU will too!
