Scotch & Dreams

Rate this book
If Alex Mackenzie, the brooding hot cop from Scotch & Shortbread, stole your heart, it’s time to get acquainted with his knight-in-shining-armour brother, Lachlan. Ever the perfect gentleman—or is he?

Violet Munro always plays it safe. She’s never seen the ocean, never ventured beyond the borders of her Canadian province, and has settled for an uninspiring—though secure—career.

Fed up with her mundane existence, Violet decides that “one day” can no longer wait. After earning a certificate in fashion styling, she takes a bold leap and launches her own business… in Scotland.

Her fresh start takes a dramatic turn when a rocky beginning lands her—quite literally—in the arms of the charming and impossibly debonair Lachlan Mackenzie. Circumstance leads to an unforgettable twenty-four hours together, where their chemistry is palpable. But Lachlan’s life is more complicated than Violet could have ever anticipated.

Lachlan Mackenzie prides himself on his composure and gentlemanly restraint, a stark contrast to his more reckless brothers. But Violet turns his world upside down, stirring a primal hunger he didn’t know he possessed. Accepting that their spark fizzled out before it could truly ignite, Lachlan can hardly believe his luck when fate intertwines their paths again. Despite every reason to keep their relationship professional, temptation becomes a slippery slope neither can resist.

Scotch & Dreams is a heartfelt, passionate love story filled with intrigue, romance, and undeniable chemistry. Get ready for all the feels!

I love the detail August Lindsay gives us in every book she writes! I can always imagine the scenes as if I were actually there. I enjoyed how it was a fast beginning & got right to the plot! The sloww burn & second chance trope was everything I wanted. I was rooting for Lachlan and Violet’s relationship the entire time. Lachlan is officially my new book boyfriend 😍 . Who doesn’t love a gentlemen in public & a freak in the sheets?!

More 4 1/2 🌟 What a dreamy Scottish getaway that has you invested from the first chapter. This is book two in the Scotch series and features Violet and Lachlan. We are introduced to Lachlan in the first book Scotch & Shortbread and I highly recommend reading that one first. Lachlan is a pure gentleman, his morals and integrity were next level and Violet was a breath of fresh air. This was such an enjoyable slow burn romance. I received a complementary copy from the author.

This book was so perfect! I really appreciated the early “meet cute”, it got me hooked. There was some red string theory hints which I liked and felt “fated” in the plot. It just was such a seamless read that left you feeling light and happy.

August Lindsay writes romance SO WELL! I didn't know if I would like this one more than Scotch and Shortbread, but I think I might! Seeing Violet and Lachlan's love story unfold was everything I wanted and more. The tense moments felt real and relatable. It's so easy to just get lost in the story and not even realize how long you've been reading. And the SPICEEEE!! listen, I am actually one who usually doesn't love spice all that much BUT the way August Lindsay writes it will always be my favorite! Yet again, I'm so impressed!!!

“Scotch & Dreams” is the second book in the “Scotch Series” - get ready all the feel good emotions. Scotch & Dreams is a heartfelt, passionate love story filled with intrigue, romance, and undeniable chemistry. Violet needs a change in her life, so she decides to immigrate from Canada to Scotland. Lachlan makes whiskey and owns his own distillery, Cailleach Distillery. Lachlan and Violet first meet when she falls and is knocked unconscious. “Strong hands gently but firmly held her shoulders. Deep blue eyes anchored onto hers and wouldn’t let her go.”

To be released from hospital, due to her concussion, she requires to be “babysat” for twenty four hours just in case there is any issues. Surprisingly, Lachlan volunteers. There is an undeniable sexual attraction between them but when she kisses him, he does not reciprocate. He does not open up to people but with Violent, it feels natural and set him free. She made him feel calm, like a weight had been lifted from his shoulders. “Twenty-four tumultuous hours since meeting Violet Munro, and he was bletherin' away like he was on a daytime talk show with Oprah Winfrey. He would have suspected that talking about his family would be akin to pouring cask-strength whisky on an open wound ….”

The he lets her walk away, ghosts her, she is totally confused…… but she cannot forget him. Violet moves on with her life but cannot forget him, those deep blue intense eyes, the ones that could see through to her soul, her deepest thoughts. She gets on with her life and is now working at a horse sanctuary for kids, Highland Haven and is living at a beautiful little cottage close by. Then she meets her new boss, those
“….. cerulean blue eyes she’d tried to forget locked on hers. And she instantly remembered how those eyes had been her lifeline only two months ago.” Lachlan Mackenzie, the man she has try to forget, but failed.

“God, he looked good, painfully good. Brown, perfectly worn leather boots under his dark denim, navy button-up shirt. Even at a stable, the man looked like he stepped right out of a men's magazine ….”

Things start to heat between Lachlan and Violet. Once I started reading, I could not put this book down! At times you will laugh, you will cry, get angry and frustrated - most of all, you will love the twists! This book will charm “the pants off you” and leave you going back for more 🤗 Curl up in your favourite chair, by an open fire with a dram of whisky 🥃 or two, and enjoy the show. The physical attraction between them is off the page - the wall begins to crumble. After one night of extremely hot and mutual passion, she doesn’t hear from him. Violet is feeling very hurt and confused. Will he open up to her and give them a chance of a future together or will he walk away?

I absolutely loved this story - I was hooked by the first chapter. I cannot wait to read the next book in the series! A thoroughly enjoyable read from one chapter to the next - at times you are metaphorical “on the edge of your chair” wondering what will happen next. You will fall in love with Lachlan and Violet, hoping that everything with work out for them and they have a future together. Overall, I would highly recommend this book and you will not be disappointed 😊

Loved the missed-chance love story between Lachlan and Violet—August Lindsay is truly the queen of slow burn! I was on pins and needles waiting for these two to finally give in to their chemistry, and when it happened? Whew, so worth the wait!

Lachlan and Violet first meet when he saves her from an accident on the beach. From the moment she looks into his eyes, Violet feels an undeniable connection. He’s gentle, protective, and kind—total book boyfriend material. Their one unforgettable night together leaves Violet full of hope… until he completely ghosts her. Oof.

Fast-forward to Violet starting her new job at a horse sanctuary—only to discover the owner is none other than Lachlan! Talk about awkward! Despite the tension, their chemistry simmers, and their working relationship grows stronger. But every time things start to heat up? He ghosts her again. WTF?

When “Saint Lachlan,” as his brothers call him, finally lets go of his control? Let’s just say the payoff is steamy and satisfying.

August’s vivid writing transported me straight to the rugged beauty of Scotland—I could practically smell the sea breeze. If you love a heart-thudding slow burn with rich scenery and deep emotional tension, Scotch & Dreams is a must-read. A cozy, affordable getaway in book form. Highly recommend!

The second book in the “Scotch Series” did not disappoint. From the first chapter, I was hooked. I absolutely love how August Lindsay adds little details to her stories to make them more real. Things like describing the Angel’s Share in whisky making, to the tartan blanket made me disappear into the story. Also, who doesn’t want to be in Scotland?!

I craved the slow burn and aching tension throughout the story. There were so many moments in this story that made me nod my head because it would absolutely happen that way, like interruptions and overthinking situations. When the romance finally exploded and could no longer be contained, BAM! It was SPICING! And written so well that I didn’t feel awkward or icked. It was amazing!

If you are interested in a romance read that will give you all the feelings, including wanting to throw the book a few times, or reach into the pages and shake the characters, this is for you! It is the second book in the series, and I definitely recommend you check out the first one. Don’t let the miscommunication trope scare you away! That is my least favourite, but it was done so well that you will understand how it naturally happened!

Workplace Romance / Family Drama / Forced Proximity / HEA

Scotch Series #2 - This book is written in third person. I had forgotten the previous book was this way, so it took me a bit to recalibrate to this style. Violet Munro has moved from Canada to Scotland to start her own styling business. Shortly after settling into her little B&B, she went for a walk along a pier, tripped on a loose board, and tumbled into the water, hitting her head. Lachlan Mackenzie had been there and saw it unfold. When she stumbled back onto land, she fell unconscious. Lachlan went to her side and carried her away from the water’s edge and called for an ambulance. She woke in time to give him her name and see her safely transported. The next day, he went to the hospital to look in on her. The doctor agreed to release her only on the promise that she have someone stay with her for at least 24 hours. Being new to the area with no friends, she asks Lachlan if he would stay with her. These two share an instant connection, but they have a few stumbling blocks to overcome before they can be together. I really enjoyed seeing Alex from book one but missed Quinn, his feisty other half.

Okay y’all. First things first, this book releases tomorrow, May 9th, and you need to read it! Mark your calendars.

Violet has just moved to Scotland to prove she can make a life for herself on her own terms. Lachlan is an established businessman who runs the family distillery.

Lachlan and Violet meet at the very beginning of the book. And their lives become intertwined from that moment on! I was hooked!

There’s forced proximity, a protective MMC, family drama, a bit of miscommunication, and workplace romance. It’s so good!!

Y’all know I enjoyed Scotch & Shortbread (book one). But this, this is *chef’s kiss* perfection! I absolutely LOVED Lachlan and Violet’s story. They feel like soulmates and their story is so incredibly sweet!

I’m already looking forward to book three in the series!

If you’re looking for a fun romance read, definitely give this one a go! Highly recommend!

And in case you are wondering… even though this is book two in the Scotch series, you don’t need to read book one in order to follow along. Though I highly recommend you do because Scotch & Shortbread is such a fun Christmas romance story!

Scotch & Dreams whisked me off to the rugged beauty of Scotland, where dreams, fate, and a whole lot of simmering chemistry intertwine.

Violet Munro, a determined Canadian transplant, arrives in the Highlands to chase her dream business and a fresh start—only to collide with Lachlan Mackenzie: a guarded, whisky-distilling Scot who feels like a human embodiment of a smoky single malt…smooth, intense, and impossible to forget.

Lachlan is the kind of man you lose to willingly—layered, beautifully broken, and achingly human as he grapples with a painful past and his complicated feelings for Violet. And Violet? Oh I adored her! She's business savvy, grounded, emotionally open, and not afraid to risk it all when it comes to love. Her vulnerability made her feel so relatable.

This book is a love letter to second chances, the quiet magic of the Scottish coast and that deep, aching feeling of wanting to crawl inside the pages. I wanted to wrap myself in Violet's cosy seaside cottage, inhale the highland air and listen to the snorts and whinnies of the horses in Lachlan's stable.

This is book 2 in the Scotch series although can be read independently

Well August Lindsay has done it again!! Another brilliant book in the Scotch Series! Augusts books never fail to pull me out of a reading slump. I love her writing style, her books are so easy to read. She sets the scene so perfectly without rambling and I never feel like I have to reread passages.

In this book we are back with our hunky Scottish men with a love of whiskey! Lachlan is the opposite of his brother Alex who we met in book 1. He is the epitome of a good guy! He holds himself to high moral standards without being boring or weird or standoffish.

Lachlan meets Violet, our FMC in a very unique way. Certainly a story they will be telling for a very long time. We get to watch our characters brood over each other, fantasize about each other, laugh, cry and fight with each other.
This book is filled with Scottish wit and hilarious banter.

It’s an absolute must read!!!

First of all, I can’t believe this took me a whole month to get through. Life has been just go go go for me lately.

This book draws you in right from the start.

I loved all the Scottish slang, and felt like I was learning a new word every chapter.

The love story that played out in this book will have your brain going up and down, up and down. I found myself speaking outloud “oh no”, and “oh wow”.

I loved that Lachlan is a family man, because I am such family oriented person, so that was an immediate turn on.

I loved that Violet was not afraid to be a strong independent woman and start her life all over in a country she barely knows anything about. Shows she’s adventurous.

I didn’t like that she tried to run away everytime the going got tough though. C’mon V, don’t give up.

The ending was so sweet, and the perfect ending although maybe a bit predictable, I still loved it.

The Scotch series is the perfect romance, spicy, cozy series to add to your book collection. August does an amazing job making you feel like you’re in the story from start to finish (the amount of times I said “Nooooo! What are you doing?”) Scotland was the perfect setup for the story and I would have loved more descriptions of the scenery because I feel in love with the beginning descriptions. The spice and romance between Violet and Lachlan was chef’s kiss. If this series ever goes to audiobook, I’m gonna snatch them up. I truly can’t wait to read the rest of the series and meet more characters.

Loved. Loved. Loved this book! Once I started reading, I was unable to put the book down. August Lindsay did a wonderful job bringing her characters to life. Watching Violet and Lachlan's story evolve was a little bit tense and a little bit a tease (but in a good way!). Both characters were written very well that you can't help but relate to them and what they are going through. I went into reading this book knowing I would like it, but did not realize how much I would end up loving it! This is a definite must read. Although put of a series, you can definitely read this as a stand alone.

I have been waiting for this book for SO long!! Scotch & Dreams is book 2 in the Scotch Series by August Lindsay. This time, we get to follow Alex's twin brother Lachlan as he meets Violet.

I absolutely LOVE 'Saint Lachlan' and honestly, the entire Mackenzie clan. And, of course, Violet is absolutely perfect for him. I loved the plot development and how things came together and kept things interesting.

The character development is top tear, and I am now obsessed with Drew. Can't wait for his story now, and to catch up with Alex and Lachlan again.

Yes, yes, and more yes! Lachlan is just perfection. Who can resist a delicious man with an accent and a heart of gold? Did I mention he's a twin!? 😍🥵

This is a slow burn and it hits so good!! Their chemistry is top notch, Lachlans inner commentary is hilarious, and the fated love is where it's at!!

These Mackenzie brothers are everything!

Being a dog Mom, Sally was the perfect addition to the story and I loved Fiona!

Be on the lookout for Scotch and Stones. I can't wait to dive into Drew's book!!

OMG I dont know how to put into words how stunning this book is...

August writes so beautifully that you cannot help but become completely emersed in this story. I warn you though, you need to strap in for the rollarcoaster of emotions you'll feel. I had tears, anger, frustration, laughter.... The MCs, Violet and Lachlan are so relatable and endearing, each in their own way, Lachlans morals and integrity are swoon worthy and Violet is witty and loyal. You can't help but fall in love with them and the chemistry wow, it is off the scale!!

This read will keep you turning the pages and leave u sad when it’s over. Because you loved Violet’s and Lachlan’s story so very much you never wanted it to end. Lachlan is a honest and loyal man and Violet is a smart woman who’s a hard worker and a trusting new friend in town. Scotch & Dreams was everything I expected and more from this brilliantly talented author. The chemistry these two have is what every couple could want and more. I hope you enjoy this read as much as I have.

This is the second book in the series. I absolutely loved the first one and this was a great follow-up. I really enjoyed the characters and the way the male main character is so sweet with a little naughty in the mix.

I absolutely love the dog in this book and it was a great addition to this second installment.

This was a fun read and perfect for a summer beach read. I was able to devour it over 2 days. Looking forward to seeing more from this author!

I absolutely loved this book! I loved this first, and usually it seems like sometimes the second just isn't fully there; but with August Lindsay that is not the case at all! I think i actually love the second one more than the first.
Slow Burns, the second chance trope, touch her and die (or well just severely regret it from Saint).
I love August Lindsay's writing style, and. how detailed everything is, even down to the writing in the accents. I am so excited for book 3!

I adore Lachlan SO much it makes my heart flutter. His inner dialogue was amazing. The way the I envisioned him chuckling and conversationing in his accent and oh how that gave me the warm fuzzies in my stomach. Butterflies. Just the type of man that makes a slow burn even better! What a man. Also Loved violet and her desire to fulfill her happiness in life- definitely motivating!!

The pace of the book was perfect and the scenery August painted for us as we read was just dreamy. Made me want to visit Scotland!

This is the second book I’ve read by August and definitely recommend! Adore her writing style and ability to bring us phenomenal character development! She keeps you engaged and committed that’s for sure and wanting more! Can’t wait for the next!

I loved this story! Lachlan and Violet are a perfect couple and I just wanted to face palm every time Lachlan refused to communicate and easily explain things to Violet. So many times. Lachlan is charming, with old school manners, and I think that was why he kept half the things to himself. 10/10 definitely recommend! Can't wait to see what happens to baby brother Drew in book 3!

I thought I liked the first book and Alex.

But then Lachlan came along. Although he‘s got his problems and needs a good smack on his head, or a communication course (like most men I guess), he‘s a really good guy. Has morals (I mean, his nickname is Saint!), has a whisky distillery, loves animals and looks like from a magazine. And he‘s a good brother! So total package!

Violet was a really good fmc as well. I really liked her. Not a damsel in distress. One that knows her way and how to take her whisky!

Oorlagh…I need a whole book about her though! She sounds so much fun! Even though I love the Mackenzie brothers, I want to know more about her! And her shenanigans!

Again, you feel the love the author has for Scotland, scottish lads (well who doesn‘t 😏), whisky and animals.

And ok. The spice…well let‘s say it‘s verra verra nice! 😉
