Falling for Mr. Ruthless

Rate this book
He was the worst mistake I ever survived…
and the only man I ever loved.

Jakob Giannetti is the last man I should trust.

The affair. The lies. The marriage I barely survived.

And yet here we are—partners on the biggest deal of my career,
locked in a boardroom with tension so thick it’s suffocating.

My ex-husband is richer now. Ruthless.
In business. In power. In the way he looks at me like I still belong to him.

And I hate that I still feel it.
I swore I’d never let him close again.

Yet for one reckless heartbeat, I almost believe it.
But I know better than to trust the man who left our marriage in ashes.

Still, I can’t walk away.
Not when the deal’s under attack—and my son’s safety might be next.

Jakob says he’ll protect us.
That he’s not the man he used to be.

But loving him nearly destroyed me once...
and wanting him now might finish the job.

So annoying to read statements that later the author unnecessarily explained: "Not a question, a revelation". The extensive use of this narrative tool was tedious. as tedious as me doing the same in this review. Every chapter has al least 3 of these.
Didn't feel the need of the story if, in the midst of conflict, the MC evidently had always the chance to do things right.

Enjoyable with some issues

One, I really enjoyed the pacing story's the plot and the characters. The chemistry between the two leads was amazing. I also enjoyed the very frank discussions about love versus control. It's something I think a lot more people should be cognizant of when writing stories like this. Those conversations and observations make the book deeply interesting. I'm especially very fond of the spicy boardroom scene and the confrontation/conversations with Latanya.

The biggest issues in the book are many repeated phrases and sentiments. Everything lands somewhere like a blow. The reiteration of what was previously stated about aspects of the relationship were unnecessary throughout the entire book. The biggest issue for me was the continuity errors. The timelines of some of the events that happen as well as the age of the child of the book vary throughout the book when it's supposed to be a constant.

They met 10 years ago, were married for 6 years, and have been separated for 4 years. Near the end of the book, Jakob and Chanel are written as if this is their first reconciliation EVER. As if it's the first time they've touched each other in 4 years. Which is strange, since it's implied they separated again for ONLY 8 months after the resolution of handling the antagonist.

Also, from beginning to end, with there being no flashbacks, his mentioned age goes from 8, 9, and then 7. I think the author did revisit this story to clean up some plot errors. I enjoyed it very much outside those issues.

I loved this book! It's one of the best books by Blaire Wilde!!

I've read many books by this author. But this book is by far one of her best written works. The synopsis gives you a taste of what to expect from the book. But once you start reading it, you'll realize that it's so much more. This book had so many twists and turns it literally had me guessing what was going to happen next.

Jakob and Chanel are navigating life civily as a divorced couple, co-parenting their son Jaden, while working together on an audit of Jakob's White Glove project by Chanel's company RSV. Jakob and Chanel have a tumultuous history. There's unresolved feelings on both sides that manifest throughout the book.

Jakob had some secrets that if he had confronted them head-on when they occurred, their lives (Chanel,Jaden, and himself) could've been drastically different. But hindsight is 20/20, as they say.
While I don't want to spoil the book for other readers, I must say my truth. This book had so many twists and turns it literally had me guessing what was going to happen next. And I loved that! The last couple of chapters had me on the edge of my power wheelchair! Karma was knocking on people's doors like the Avon lady making a house call! I'm not normally a person who lives seeing the villain get theirs, ah, who am I kidding? Yes, I am! Lol. I was gleefully happy reading Karma giving payback when it was needed. And believe me, it was well deserved.

This book had me on an emotional rollercoaster that I would honestly ride again and again because this book was fire!! 🔥🔥🔥 That epilogue? Absolutely Chef's Kiss! 💋 Kudos to Ms. Wilde for another smashing read. Definitely a 5 ⭐️ must-read! I can't wait to read the other books in this series.

Enjoyable

When Mr Ruthless was activated, there was no doubt he would burn it all down, not controlled! You mess with him family and all bets are off! Loved their second chance! A good read!

Good

A good read of a little to long, did repeat it self a bit too much. That said enjoyed the characters, with good storytelling. Looking forward to the next book.

I liked the writing in a way, but…

Why I don’t like second chance trope? Because the reason for their breakup up is usually lame and disappointing. This book was no different.

Why I avoid the cheating trope? In this book you read how madly in love Jakob is with Chanel. He would do anything to protect her, even cheat. Especially since the guy knows that he is being manipulated by OW and still chooses to get involved with her, both during the mariage and after the divorce. Wtf am I even reading?! Do writers actually think about what they are writing? Because nothing screems love more than infidelity.

This book needs editing.
Chanel is making coffee and adding milk to match Jakob’s eye color. The dude has blue eye…

In the beginning Chanel received signed divorce papers. Also their divorce has been legally settled. However, towards the end Jakob inner-monologue shows that he never signed the divorce papers and he brought them to share with Chanel but he never did. So which one is it?

There is way too much repetitive text. All the text about four years ago is copy pasted what feels like a million times. Each smut scene is written as if it is their first time after four years, which it obviously isn’t.

I had to start skipping repeated text in every chapter.
