The Cottage

Rate this book
Starting over in her forties was not what Sadie had in mind.
But when her Hollywood husband traded her in for a younger model, she had no choice.
After a cross-country move to a small town in Door County Wisconsin, Sadie discovered her grandparents’ beloved waterfront cottage on the Great Lakes was in a state of complete neglect.
A childhood friend who was the ultimate DIY-er, a hot Irish builder who made her feel things she thought were long gone, and a cutthroat lawyer with a vendetta against her ex-husband, made her hopeful a change was coming.
Starting over was never easy, but for Sadie, starting over might just be the best thing that could have ever happened to her.

A small town love story about being forced to make changes at a time in life you thought it was supposed to be easier. A story of having the courage to walk away and to say no for what doesn’t work for you. And a story of having the faith to know that love can happen again, when you least expect it and in the most unusual of places.

Tropes I loved:
— Small town romance
— Slow burn with real yearning
— Age-positive romance (40s/50s MCs!)
— Hot builder + fresh start FMC
— Found family & friendship
— Faith-based (but softly, not preachy)
— “I’ll fix the cottage…and your life” energy

Listen. This was just pure small-town comfort vibes. A second-chance life story rather than just a second-chance romance — and honestly? I was here for every page.

Sadie’s life kinda hit rock bottom (thanks to her Hollywood ex, boo 👎), so she moves back to her grandparents' neglected lakeside cottage to rebuild — literally and emotionally. And then... hello, hot Irish builder. Tadgh is patient, kind, and basically invented the “I’ll fix your house and your heart” trope. The slow burn here? REAL. I’m talking longing looks, lingering touches, and so much mutual pining you’ll want to scream “Just kiss already!”

What made this book special was its focus on healing. Sadie finding her strength again. Tadgh finding home. And honestly? Seeing characters in their 40s+ fall in love felt refreshing. Life doesn’t end after 30, people.

If you love cozy, clean romances with heart and a little DIY energy — Cottage is your next weekend read. Thanks to Grey’s Promo and the author for my ARC!

****ARC****

Thanks to Greys Promo for selecting me for this ARC. And a HUGE!!! thank you to the wonderful author for writing this amazing book. THANK YOU!!! ❤❤❤

Tadgh and Sadie.

Listen. This is my third favorite book of the year. It was *chefs kiss* from the first chapter to the last. It was everything I look for in a book. Before I go any further, I want to say that my favorite part and what made me love the characters more than ever was their FAITH. IN. GOD. I'm currently going through a transition in my life where I want to read more books like this; Godly based and closed door, slow burn, yearning, and so much more that isn't spicy or dark. This book was perfect in my eyes and I couldn't get enough of them.

Sadie went through alot in her life, mainly her marriage. I won't name him because he's just so not worth it but I just want to thank him for leaving her so she could meet this perfect man. He was just so put of this world patient and kind. Tadgh ormur Irish hero was so smitten when he first met her. As a matter of fact they both were but they acted like they weren't because she was going through her divorce and he was respecting that. But the time was right they became so close and they became so enthralled with each other. They shared things with each other that they wouldn't tell anyone else except persons close to them. They also had the best group of people around them, Emma who was her daughter was so selfless with the work she did and the way they supported each other made me love their mother daughter relationship even more. Then there were Aggie and John; also a VERY perfect couple. Aggie was ger bestie and John was his bestie and they because besties who were with besties lol. But seriously, Aggie and John played a huge role in them being together, giving them advice each step of the way and just being there for each of them. This book was everything.

Overall I give this book a ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/5. You know what was also special about this book? The fact that Tadgh got to be with the girl he heard so many stories about from the woman she spent so many summers with. That was special to me. Again though, my overall favorite part is when they always mentioned God and how they kept the faith through everything. They kept praying for a miracle when the accident happened and man did I have a heart attack. I was worried but I knew they would all be okay. I also loved the fact that they were older than all the rest of characters I've read about and also the fact that there was no spice instead there were passionate kisses and lingering kisses and touches; NOTHING sexual. So much yearning and pining for each other, just seeing each other from across the room and they both be blushing and swooning. It was just the little things that turbed into huge things they did for each other. The way they went out of their way to just show each other they care and love each other. It was a special book. I was happy with the last chapter and epilogue. It was the perfect ending for the perfect book.

I can't wait for all the future books from this author and I hope we get to see more closed door/faith based and slow burn relationships because this was *chefs kiss*

A cozy, feel-good story about fresh starts, healing, and rediscovering yourself after life doesn’t go as planned.

Recently divorced and unsure of who she is anymore, the heroine returns to her “safe space” — a charming cottage that holds pieces of her past — to rebuild her life. Along the way, she’s joined by a loyal dog, a couple of great friends, and a very handsome man who just might be exactly what she needs.

•Dual POVs
•1st person
•Slow burn
•He falls first

What I loved:
Tadhg’s emotional backstory
The strong, heartwarming bond between the main characters
Her daughter’s fierce independence and strength

It’s not a dramatic, twisty read — and it doesn’t try to be. It’s the kind of story that wraps around you like a warm blanket. If you love second chances, small-town charm, and stories of quiet emotional growth, this one’s for you.

🍂 Perfect for a cozy autumn day with a blanket and a hot chocolate.

"Watching the two of them play made me remember, above all else, that no matter what icky things surrounded us in life, we needed to just shake it off and grab the happiness."

The Cottage was quite a bit different to the normal romance books I read. Instead of it being early 20 to early 30 year olds, we got a glimpse into the life of people in their late 40's and early 50's. It was refreshing to see a different phase in life for once, where people have already built and established a whole life for themselves.

I adored both Tadhg and Sadie and most of the characters shown throughout the book. Learning about Tadhg's childhood broke my heart but seeing how he rebuilt his life was amazing. Seeing Sadie grow and rediscover herself throughout the story shows that it's never too late to change your path in life.

I loved seeing a realistic love story evolve, while the typical dream-book-romance elements were still present.

The story flowed easily and though there were a few plot jumps, it was easy to get through and follow along. The pace was right up my alley!

I absolutely adored this cute little love story. It made me feel all warm and gooey inside. 🤍✨ A wonderful, heartwarming read!

If you love a Hallmark-style romance with a scenic backdrop and a swoonworthy love interest, The Cottage by Terrijo is your next summer read.

Sadie is newly divorced, forty-something, and left reeling after her Hollywood husband trades her in for a younger model. She escapes to Fish Creek, Wisconsin, aka Door County (though I wish the author picked one name and stuck with it), where she’s inherited her grandparents’ run-down lakefront cottage. With the help of some childhood friends and one very hot Irish contractor named Tadhg (seriously, where do I find a Tadhg?), she starts to rebuild more than just her home.

This book is exactly what you’d want to curl up with on a breezy afternoon: heartfelt, gentle, and filled with charming small-town vibes. Sadie’s best friend Aggie steals every scene, she’s fierce, loyal, and hilarious. I absolutely need an Aggie in my life. Tadhg, meanwhile, is basically the blueprint for the perfect man: kind, skilled, emotionally available, and he listens. Swoon.

While the romance is closed-door (just kisses!), it felt a bit rushed for my taste, maybe I’ve just grown used to a little more tension and steam before declarations of forever. Also, calling someone “freeze baby” as a pet name? I cringed every time.

The religious themes were also a bit too prominent for my preferences, and I was disappointed that Sadie handed over ownership of “her” cottage so quickly at the end. After everything she’d been through, I was hoping for a little more independence and a little less “what’s mine is ours now” energy.

But despite those few hiccups, The Cottage still warmed my heart. It’s a story about fresh starts, letting people in, and finding love later in life when you least expect it.

This book arrived on my Kindle at a perfect time. I was in need of a small town escape read. A second chance/start over, slow burn, with seasoned characters, I am so glad I took a chance on this book.

Sadie needs to start over, and her grandparents’ cottage is the perfect project. Rebuilding the neglected cottage will allow her to start fresh. Tadgh is the contractor who will do the work. The handsome Irishman is smitten with Sadie, but knows he needs to be patient with her.

A well written story, the underlying themes of healing. Our characters are flawed, but together they find the strength and sense of family. Lots of heart, rediscovery, and found family.

Thank you to the Author for the advanced copy; this is my voluntary review.

A beautiful story of faith, healing, and second chances.
Sadie’s divorce turns out to be a blessing in disguise, giving her the freedom to leave behind her old life, start fresh, and rediscover who she truly is. While on her journey of healing, she meets the perfect Irish hottie, Tadhg, who sees her worth from the start. He supports her, encourages her, never rushes her, and meets her exactly where she is.

And let’s talk about Aggie, everyone needs a friend like her in their life! I absolutely loved everything about this book.

Thank you to Greys Promo & Terrijo for this ARC—I’m officially a fan!

ARC Read

The Cottage is a sweet, clean story about starting over when life doesn’t go as planned, and I can definitely relate to that. Sadie’s journey after divorce felt very real, and I loved how much support she had from her best friend, Aggie. Their friendship was one of the highlights for me. The small-town setting in Door County was cozy, and the details of the cottage renovation added a peaceful, homey vibe. I also appreciated that the main character was in her 40s — like me!

Tadhg is the quiet, steady kind of love interest that grows on you, and I liked how the story focused more on emotional healing and faith than anything flashy. The faith element was woven in naturally and added a lot of depth. It made their connection feel even more meaningful. That said, the pacing was slower than I expected, and I did struggle to stay fully engaged in a few spots.

Now let’s talk about that name… The author helpfully included that Tadhg is pronounced “tick with a g,” but my brain still couldn’t commit. I kept flipping between “Gick” and “Tag.” Then I Googled it and found out it actually rhymes with “wide” and is pronounced “Tide”?? So I was clearly in pronunciation purgatory, lol. That’s not a story issue, just me being way too in my head about it!

Overall, it’s a comforting, heartfelt read about second chances, strong friendships, and trusting God through the hard parts. Just be ready for a very gentle, very slow burn. If you love clean, faith-based romances with mature characters and a cozy setting, this one will hit the spot.

Some of my favorite childhood memories are of watching Hallmark movies with my mom and grandmother. The films were so enchanting: small town full of people who love and help each other, blossoming romance, a villain who tries to ruin all the fun, and tender moments of intimacy.

The Cottage is reminiscent of those movies I loved so much, and reading it was a delight! Although romance plays a significant part in the book, the main focus is on Sadie and watching her fall in love with herself. Her nightmare of an ex went out of his way to make her feel as if she was nothing without him, and following her while she heals her wounds gave me hope for healing my own.

The plot was engaging and there were moments that I definitely didn’t see coming! Even through heartache and danger, the town is full of support, compassion, and unique characters that kept me laughing.

The Cottage is a great book for readers who love romance with mentions of faith and God and prayer with only the tiniest hints of spice!

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ | Sweet, Second-Chance Story with Heart

Thanks to Grey's Promotions and Terri Jo for giving me the opportunity to do an ARC for this book!

The Cottage by Terri Jo was such a wholesome, feel-good read. I really enjoyed getting to know the characters, especially Sadie. Her journey after her divorce was written so well, and I loved seeing her grow into this new version of herself that felt really true and real in Door County. I loved how much her best friend, Aggie, stood by her side and helped her recognize the worth in herself again. I love seeing strong female friendships in books!

Tahdg was patient and kind, and I found myself really rooting for him and Sadie at their chance of happily ever after.

I’m giving this 4 stars because the pace felt a little slow in parts, and there’s no spice, which I usually like in a romance. But honestly, this story didn’t need it. It was cute, emotional, and left me wanting more. I’ll definitely read the next one in the series!

**ARC** Terri Jo delivers a heartwarming slow-burn romance that feels like a cozy hug with The Cottage. The story follows a woman rebuilding her life after divorce, finding strength and healing in unexpected places — including the arms of the quietly steadfast Tadhg. And let me just say... he’s officially my next book boyfriend. 🛠️

Tadhg isn’t just the builder restoring her cottage — he’s the one gently helping her rebuild herself. His kindness, patience, and unwavering support make him the kind of fictional man you wish existed in real life. The way he lifts her up, especially when it comes to her self-esteem, is beautifully written and so satisfying to watch unfold.

There’s no spice in this romance — but honestly, I didn’t mind at all. The emotional connection between the characters was more than enough to keep me turning the pages.

If you love stories rooted in redemption, second chances, and tender connection, this one’s for you. I genuinely enjoyed every slow-burning moment.

This book had just the right balance of serious drama and quiet happiness. Tahdg and Sadie meet in the small town of Fish Creek when Sadie moves there after her contentious divorce. It was always her summer happy place, but she arrives to discover her grandparent's cottage in complete disrepair. Tadhg is the local builder who comes to assess and rebuild the cottage, and theirs is a swoony first meeting. The story follows their slowly developing relationship, the cottage renovation, and Sadie's reacquaintance with the town of Fish Creek. The book has exactly the flavor and pace of reading while sitting on the porch next to the lake. Sadie's best friend Aggie, her husband John, and Sadie's daughter Emma are a perfect cast of secondary characters. This is a perfect mellow summer read, for the lake or the beach or wherever one needs a cozy, engaging story.

I had the opportunity to read this story as an ARC, and I’m truly in awe. What a refreshing and heartfelt read. It’s beautiful to see a book that doesn’t hesitate to mention God and faith, that portrays life after divorce with honesty and grace, and that shows how love can be both a journey of internal healing and the beginning of something new with someone else.

This story was such a breath of fresh air—clean, faith-based, and completely captivating without the need for any spicy or smut scenes. It proves that a story can be powerful and romantic without crossing those lines.

I’m giving it 4⭐️ because while the message and heart of the story were beautiful, I felt a few chapters could have been shorter or more concise.

Still, this was an uplifting read full of hope, healing, and second chances. A gem for those who love sweet, clean, small-town romances with a strong message of faith.

4 ⭐. No spice.

“Never in a million years could I have dreamed I’d find a paradise like you......"

This book is all about starting over, finding true love, and finding her true self that was lost long before. And the cottage was the string that connected her with hope, love, and courage.

Absolutely amazing story! I love the cute little things like knitting, cooking, their Christmas celebration, and lastly, the iconic proposal by Tadhg. The ending was so beautiful! That strong realization of their relationship helps them to step forward—the fear of losing someone special was deeply felt.

The bonding between Sadie and her best friend was magical! Aggie always cared for her, encouraged her every single time, and was such a protective lady!

This love story felt like a breeze—soft and soothing, like a dream come true.

Thank you, author Terri Jo and Grey's Promotion, for the ARC.

I was lucky enough to receive an ARC of this book, and I’m so glad I did!

While the story started a little slow for me, once it got going, I couldn’t put it down. Sadie’s journey of starting over after divorce was so inspiring. Moving to Wisconsin to fix up her grandparents’ rundown cabin, she not only rebuilds a home but also begins to rebuild herself, with the help of Tadhg, the town’s lovable fix-it man. He was such a comforting presence, and their slow-burn connection felt authentic (though it’s worth noting—this one is completely closed-door with no spice).

I also loved the rekindled friendship between Sadie and Addie; it felt natural and added a sweet layer of support and warmth to the story.

This was a heartfelt, cozy read about resilience, friendship, and finding peace in unexpected places. A great pick if you love emotional second-chance stories without the steam!

The Cottage is the first book in the Fish Creek Series. It follows Sadie as she navigates divorce and reinventing herself after 25 years of marriage. I thought this was a sweet story. I thought that Sadie's struggle with a sudden change in her life came across as realistic. I appreciated that she wanted to take her time in moving onto a new relationship until she "found" herself. Tahdg was exactly the patient man to help her rediscover herself and allow her to take that time. I loved their interactions and their ease of conversation. I also loved the friendship she had with Aggie and her relationship with her daughter Emma. This is definitely a slow burn romance with a sweet ending. I highly recommend it.

I think this was the coziest romance I have read so far this year! The Cottage is a dual POV small town romance that centers on Sadie and Tadhg. Sadie was a midwest turned California gal married for 20+ years until her husband ripped her heart out. As a result, Sadie had to uproot her life and so she headed back to Fish Creek, Wisconsin. It was in Fish Creek where she spent her summers with her grandparents in their cottage. However, upon arrival, the cottage was not what she expected. Enter Tadhg, the burly Irishman who falls head over heels at first sight and works to fix up her cottage exactly as she wants it. I fell in love with the place, the characters, the friendships. There was a lot I didn't expect, such as Tadhg's backstory in Northern Ireland and Sadie's daughter being in the Peace Corps. This was a story of starting over and self-discovery, of how a little faith and patience can go a long way towards waiting for what feels right. This is the perfect read for fall or winter with a cozy blanket and a warm beverage! Thank you Grey's Promotions and Terri Jo for providing me with and advance reader copy of this book.

The Cottage was such a sweet and clean small town romance. I loved that the MC's where in the 40's to 50's. I enjoyed every moment of Sadie and Tadhg from start to finish. I didn't want their story to be over. Terri Jo wrote a beautiful slow burn that showed patience and yearning and kept it clean. I love that she talked about God, power of prayer, and faith in the story without being pushy or over the top with it.
Sadie got her second chance in life to get it right, find herself and enjoy the things and people she loves. Tadhg gets his girl that he's been dreaming of all his life. He is strong, caring, and patient.
I recommend this book all around and I can wait to read more by Terri Jo.

This adorable closed door romance about Sadie and Tadhg was incredibly wholesome and sweet. As a later-in-life romance, this book touched on finding love after loss and betrayal and really emphasized the idea that love comes in multiple forms at any time in life when you’re ready for it!

The book started off strong with Sadie’s relationship with her ex-husband falling to pieces. This allowed for her to blossom and turn into the FMC that knows what she wants and does what she can to get it! I would absolutely love to re-read this for the first time again. Terri Jo absolutely killed it with this story!

The Cottage by Terri Jo is the story of Sadie and how she begins to believe in herself and love again. Sadie's best friend from childhood talks her into moving to Door County, WI where she had so many great summers with her grandparents. When she gets to the cottage her grandparents left her though, she finds the condition of the cottage is yet another lie by her ex-husband. Thankfully, the hot Irish builder her friend introduces her to is able to help with the cottage, and self-esteem. You won’t want to miss this book about small towns that hold second chances. I hope Terri Jo writes about more of the Door County residents too.

This was my first read by Terrijo and I thoroughly enjoyed it. Easy read and flows well. Being a girl from the north I appreciated the thoughtfulness she gave to the Wisconsin weather, but more so the detail and meaning behind later in life emotions and perspective. This is not simply about finding “love” later in life or after divorce but also for women who might be struggling with true friendships later in life. Me and the family have relocated a lot with my husbands work and I can speak firsthand at just how difficult it can be to find true great friends later in life and know who remain loyal and true throughout your lifetime even if you don’t speak everyday.

The Cottage is a very beautiful contemporary romance with undertones of hope and new beginnings threaded throughout the story. While this is a small town romance, this feels very different from other small town romances that I typically read. I love how the community comes together but I also love the focus is not on the entire town at large, but rather the few who have become part of Sadie’s new family.

This book felt like curling up on a peaceful day with a blanket by a fire and having everything on your to-do list completed. The descriptive nature of the setting and the characters’ daily life was just so calming and made me want to hop right into this book and live in that small town. This is a clean romance and a beautiful story of resilience. Sometimes we have to go through something heartbreaking to find ourselves - and our people.

Sadie never thought she would be starting her life over in her 40’s, but she had no choice when her Hollywood husband went for a younger model. When Sadie finds out that her grandparents waterfront cottage has been neglected, she turns to her childhood sweetheart and DIY builder Tadhag for help.
This is a well written slow burn story, with friendships, emotions, heartbreak, taking chances, courage, second chances, and love, which leads to an enjoyable, and heartwarming, small town romance.
I look forward to reading more from this author in the future.

Thank you to Grey’s Promotions and Terrijo for the opportunity to read and review an ARC of ‘The Cottage’

This was such a sweet contemporary romance with mature characters. Her words and the story of starting over flowed perfectly. I liked how there was not a lot of unnecessary fluff in between and it was straight to the point.

I will say I would have loved more of their story once they finally were together, which is why I knocked off a half of a star.

This was a beautiful story that it is never too late to start over and live the life you always dreamed of.

The Cottage is Sadie and Tadhg’s sweet and heartwarming story. This is the first book I have read by this author but it won’t be the last.
This is a story of second chances, finding love after loss and forgiveness. I was drawn in from the first chapter and there was no putting down until I had read the final line. The characters are strong and their story is believable but what took this book to another level was the small town charm.

This is a cute wholesome second chance at love book. Her ex husband left her for some Barbie, to then find out the damage state, her cottage was in. Leave it to some hot Irish man to come in and help her transform her college and fall in love along the way the story was extremely cute.
