The Truth She Carried

Rate this book
Imogen Kennedy was a rising journalist—until the night she stood between a powerful senator and the truth. Branded a liar, blacklisted from every newsroom that once praised her, and haunted by a story no one wanted to hear, she flees to the quiet shores of Dolphin Cove hoping to disappear.

But the truth doesn’t stay buried. Not when Imogen still carries it with her.

Working in a small-town diner with mismatched mugs and a chorus of nosy locals wasn’t part of the plan. Neither was crossing paths with Brynne Tilton, the guarded editor of the town’s newspaper, who sees more than Imogen wants to admit. As Imogen begins to rebuild her life—one coffee cup, one cautious friendship, one buried file at a time—the past begins to stir. And so do the people who want it to stay hidden.

A novel about resilience, reinvention, and the quiet power of reclaiming your voice, The Truth She Carried is a story for anyone who’s ever been told to stay silent—and dared to speak anyway.

Holy smokes the tension in this story is incredible.

Lucy MacGregor has written a high tension, full of anxiety story where a politician is smack dab in the middle of this storm of wills. Our main character Imogene is an investigative reporter who is out to get even for an assault on her personal and her job but a slimy crooked senator who prays on young women. Through intimidation he manipulates his victims into hiding or destroying their credibility. Imogene fights back! Read it to see how she manages to overcome her fear. So good!
