Friends is a Sempre novella. It's about what happened to our boy Carmine DeMarco before he met Haven Antonelli. I loved how we get to see a glimpse of his friendship with Nicholas here and the reason why they fell apart. This novella pulled on a few heartstrings. A bit heavy but it sure was worth reading. My heart ached for both boys since obviously these two are f*cked up in more ways than one and they came from families who have complicated issues.
Once again I was awed by J.M. Darhower's writing style. It made me miss reading Sempre. I have yet to read Sempre Redemption and I'm so excited on what's about to happen to Carmine and the rest of the gang.
P.S. You can read this novella after reading Sempre. :)
Friends is about what happened with Carmine pre-Sempre and pre-Haven. You get to see what happened with his big mistake and how his friendship with Nicholas really went down. To see the one thing that really changed their friendship.
It was nice to get a look inside his head. I just love Carmine. Past Carmine, present Carmine, and future Carmine. Seeing what he was feeling and the place he was at before that life changing moment was insightful to the place he was at when he met Haven.
Ps. If you wanna read this series, I suggest you to read with this order... * Sempre * Sempre:Redemption * Friends - Novella * Forever - Novella * Made
Loved that we get to see what really happened between Nicholas and Carmine! Both definitely did some messed up things but I can't help but feel like Carmine was in the wrong. He should have never done the things he did but this takes place before Sempre, while Carmine is still the selfish, arrogant ass who is hurt and bitter. Short but very good :)
Carmine, annesini kaybettikten sonra dağıtmış belli ki.. Nerede Made'deki o sevimli küçük çocuk..
I'm in a slump. I've just finished Made by Darhower and it was phenomenal. And now I don't know what to do with life. I figured I would give this a whirl - and I'm not sure that was the best idea.
The writing was fine; at times it was a bit complicated and a little all over the place, but I still enjoyed it. The plot was fine as well; it gave background to the Carmine and Nicholas situation so that was nice. The characters were fine as well: I don't really like Carmine here when he is feeling sorry for himself, and I didn't feel the camaraderie that I expected him to have with Nicholas as best friends. And the feels weren't there for me at all.
Maybe I gave too much of myself to Made, or maybe Friends really is just fine. Either way, I thought it was fine.
Ps. I didn't like the last line when Darhower snuck that little friends in - that was neat.
Again kicking myself. I feel as if I needed to read Sempre first. Without knowing much about the context it's just two boys that are self centered, reckless and immature that go from best friends to nearly killing each other in a matter of minutes.
I liked this little view in to Carmine and Nicholas' friendship before it went bad. Carmine's actions with Amy pissed Nicholas off and that was understandable. Nicholas' dig at Carmine at the dance to me, was much harsher and I can also understand Carmine's anger. So sad that their friendship ended the way it did in Sempre.
Frases favoritas: “Nothing mattered, nothing was more important, than that moment, in that place. It was what he lived for—the nothingness, the euphoria of teenage recklessness, as it washed away all of his painful memories.”

This was pretty good. I really liked Nicholas. I feel like he could have been such a great character! I feel like Haven would have healed them both. I'm still sad about what happen to Nicholas in Sempre. They were both in the wrong and it's really sad that's really where everything ends for them. Sigh... it was a good read though.
Friends was my first introduction to this author. I picked up the two novella book when it was free figuring if I enjoyed Friends then I would get Sempre to read, while if I didn't then it was a quick easy way to check out a new author. I enjoyed this super short story and am looking forward to reading more!
Friends is the short backstory of Carmine and Nicholas and how one night changed everything. They used to be friends, but they are young and stupid and just messed everything up. I can't wait to read Sempre now and see what happens with Carmine! I know I still have the Forever novella that is bundled with this to read, but I am going to wait until I have read the other books first since it comes after. Really short, but drew me in and now I want more!
So that was it! Thats the reason behind Carmine's animosity with Nicholas! It was just very sad that they started as best friends, but after a few f*ck ups (Carmine scr*wng Nicholas' sister, seriously!?at his own house at his owm room, ugh Carmine, Nicholas spilling Carmine's secret, Carmine trying to shoot Nicholas and the subsequent burning of the front porch) ended as worst enemies. It was bothersome, saddening, disheartening :(
Then on Sempre, Nicholas ended up dead. Wrong place at the wrong time. Poor kid.
Im boiling with anger with Nicholas' sister! Such a slut! If she didnt tempt/dare Carmine, nothing would have happened between them. Its a 2 way street, ya know. Add to that, she went on with her life, not caring that she caused a friendship to end. B*tch!
Amazing Back story. Finally we get to experience what happened between Carmine and his best friend Nicholas. If you are a Sempre fan, This one is a MUST READ!
5 Stars This insight into the friendship of Carmine and Nicholas and ultimately the distraction of that friendship, for me was so sad. I hated how they were so careless with something that they both truly needed, which was their friendship. They both wounded the other in ways that would end up being unforgivable.
