Doga: Yoga for you and your Dog

Rate this book
Welcome to the world of Doga, where your best friend can help you get more from your yoga sessions.

Involving your dog in yoga sessions can help you develop your yoga practice, as well as being an entertaining and fun way to bond with your pet . Doga provides a mindful connection with your dog as you mimic your pet's breathing patterns and have to stay controlled throughout the pose to ensure your pet's comfort. As an activity it de-stresses your dog and creates a wonderful sharing and nurturing experience.

Classic yoga postures such as the Warrior Lunge and the Downward-Facing Dog are adapted so that your pet can participate. Full-color photographs alongside practical step-by-step guides show clearly how to do each of the poses in this fun and unique take on yoga.

I confess I neither have access to a dog nor know much about yoga to be able to accurately judge this book on its contents beyond that it's very well put together and nice quality, with great photos and explanations of all the different poses and so on. The book does admit that it's not about doing yoga with your dog so much as doing yoga with your dog—the benefits being 1. bonding with your dog and 2. calming your anxious dog. It's also really only for smaller dogs, at least as far as the guides provided in the book... not to say a larger dog couldn't participate, but for the exercises involving picking up the dog or having the dog stand/sit/lie on you, that might be a problem.

Four stars for benefit of the doubt; I'm sure I could give a better score if I had a dog appropriate for the exercises, but for now I'm just reviewing whatever book I read, haha.
