Murphy doesn't want to go to school. He has butterflies in his tummy and ants in his pants! But no amount of made-up excuses convince his dad to let him stay home. Just when Murphy has all but given up, his father brings him up-to-date-it's Saturday!
Murphy has every excuse in the book for not going to school until he realizes it’s Saturday! Now he’s in such a hurry to get outside to play he forgets something very important… http://julianaleewriter.com/books-ali...
I thought this book was ok...my kids think it is the BEST book of all time. So I'll give it 4 stars for good use of underpants humor. We've read this one 87 times in 3 weeks.
Sometimes you wonder how a book gets published… Must be that this one was a total rip off on the favorite Shel Silverstein poem, “Sick.” Cute art, though.
Murphy woke up one morning, and did not want to get out of bed. He had to get up though so he could start getting ready for school. When his dad walks in, Murphy tries to convince him that he is too sick to go to school. He has many different sicknesses like a computer virus, butterflies in his stomach, and goosebumps. His dad says then maybe we would have to go to the doctor for these sicknesses. Will Murphy get out of going to school? Will he have to visit the doctor for his different sicknesses?
After reading this book, the students have to make up an original sickness that they could come down with. They would have to talk about what the symptoms are, what happens during the sickness, and how to cure it. Also I would ask them if they think their parents would let them skip school for one of these made up sicknesses, or if their parents would still make them go to school.
Murphy, B. (2015). Ready for school, Murphy? New York: Disney Hyperion.
Youngsters will relate to being nervous and making excuses. I like that his father is calm and cool, Interesting that the author's last name is the boy's name! Simple, solid color expressionistic illustrations help us identify with Murphy. Fold out pages take us inside what it would be if he were a computer needing new parts.
