STORM RECKONING Book Two in the FIRE Series A rogue organization. A weaponized storm. And a woman running out of time. When a catastrophic hurricane slams into the northern Maine coast, FIRE Agent Izzy O’Keefe knows it’s no natural disaster. The storm bears the signature of the Tempest Group—a shadowy force using weather as a weapon to manipulate governments and silence anyone who gets in their way.
As the FIRE team scrambles to uncover the next target, Izzy and her partner Coop are thrust into a deadly game of cat and mouse that spans from storm-ravaged towns to high-tech research labs. Izzy’s disease is progressing—and no one, especially Izzy, can ignore it anymore.
With communications cut, allies in short supply, and danger around every corner, Izzy must rely on instinct, trust, and the man who’s already broken down her walls. But time is running out—for her, for Coop, and for millions who don’t know they’re in the crosshairs.
The storm is just the start. What follows is a high-stakes mission—and a slow-burn romance that simmers beneath every risk they take. While the books can be read out of order, beginning with Book 1 is recommended, as key story threads unfold across the series.
Under the name K.T. Coatney, I write fast-paced suspense featuring the elite agents of FIRE—Federal Investigations and Reconnaissance Enforcement—where danger is real, the stakes are high, and love is the last line of defense.
As Kathy Coatney, I bring that same passion for storytelling to deeply emotional, small-town contemporary romance. My novels explore themes of love, community, and the agricultural roots that have shaped my life. Some readers may remember me as
Kate Curran, but these days, all my books are published under the Coatney name.
I’m also the author of the nonfiction children’s series From the Farm to the Table and Dad’s Girls, celebrating the journey from farm to fork.
When I’m not writing, you’ll find me at the gym strength training, biking, skiing, or jogging (at tortoise speed).
I am loving the FIRE series! Storm Reckoning is filled with suspense from beginning to end. Izzy and Coop are the main characters, and they have a slow-burn romance simmering in the background. There are a lot of characters in this series, and they each have their own weaknesses and strengths that allow them to complement each other in solving the crime. The book is chock-full of neat electronic gadgets that aid in getting the job done. I read this book in one sitting because I just had to know what was going to happen next. I couldn't put it down. I'm anxiously awaiting the next book in the series.
I enjoyed reading this second book in this series. It was fast-paced and full of action, but it was the characters that pulled me quickly into the story. I really liked Izzy and Coop, who are both field agents for FIRE, Federal Investigations and Reconnaissance, and are partners too. I liked how they looked out for each other and balanced out each other's strengths and weaknesses. I also enjoyed the sparks between them that added to the romantic suspense. The story was interesting and made me think. It would be very scary if someone could weaponize the weather. I received an advance copy of this book, and I willingly chose to write an honest review.
Storm Reckoning is a great follow-up to book#1 in the FIRE series, Silent Access--a clever blend of action/adventure and slow-burn romance. While I love the developing relationship between main characters, Izzy and Coop, as they learn to work together and trust one another, the urgency to combat deadly storms being wielded as weapons leaps off the page, creating a super-compelling and entertaining read. With the featured skilled specialist supporting characters, this series has a bit of a MIssion Impossible feel to it, complete with the high-stakes fans of the genre would expect. Really well-paced. Can't wait for book #3!
