You know what this book is?
description
It's not in your face sexy though more like satisfying sexy. Except for that last water play scene. THAT was in your face sexy.

If you're not familiar with the Vampire Queen series the story of Debra and Brian will not pack as much punch. They have been secondary characters from the very beginning and Brian has been awful to her. Just awful. I'm not going to go into the vampire/human dynamics in this world. Suffice to say Brian being a born vampire of very traditional parents has made him extremely entitled and fuckknucklish to the extreme.

I'm not sure I buy Brian's transformation, but I'm willing to give him the benefit of the doubt for two reasons:

(1) it's Joey Hill. She could sell ice to Eskimos.
(2) Brian is and always has been staggeringly intelligent if a bit daft.

It took Jacob's Come to Jesus talk to convince him he was missing the big picture. From then on he makes a concerted effort to actually get to know his servant and met her needs beyond the lab. And it was sexy as hell. The way he dominates/controls/masters her was very… satisfying. Add to that some very intriguing on the scientific front that have me coming up with all sorts of hypotheses for future books.

I always love catching up with previous characters, but I did NOT appreciate the Daegan/Gideon chain yank. Don't let me see their names and know they're in the room and get all esssssited and give them no dialogue.

description

Do. Not. Like.

The writing is pure Joey and divine, as always. My eyes didn't even get juicy. Well, maybe once.

What I would really like is a book with Tucker, Balen and Reed.

HHHHHHHEEEEEEEEEEELLLLLLLLLLLLLLLOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO?!?!?!

Two vamps together is titillating enough since all vamps are dominant, so you know Reed is getting spit roasted on the regular.

*still reeling from post-reading haze........*

So good. So so goooood.

First of all, if you are familiar with Ms Joey W Hill's books and the Vampire Queen's (VQ) series, you would probably be like me, dancing a jig when finally, finally, the story of Lord Brian and Debra his servant is out. It's been a long time since i last read a VQ story and i miss the engaging storytelling of Ms Hill. I just do not know where to start with this book.

Lord Brian is the equivalent to a brilliant science nerd in the Vampire community and his servant Debra is the female human equivalent of that. He is always engrossed in his scientific matters and is respected as a genius in his society. (However, since he is a vampire he would not look like your stereotypical genius human scientist - he would be hot and sexy). Debra is also a genius and serves as his partner in his work. She is also his servant so she is subject to his vampire master demands.

Even with all the fantastic female characters in the VQ series, my heart always goes out to Debra, the beautiful, gentle scientist. I love her quiet strong character - as a third-marked servant to Lord Brian, she's quiet, rather shy, has a brilliant mind and is very devoted to her Master (because she loves him unconditionally). The only problem is that her master has been blind to this as he is always thinking of his work, seeing her more as a work colleague and his servant and neglecting to protect and care for her as a person. And to top it off, he had once thwarted her declaration of love for him, forced her to see where she stands in his life (and did one of the the cruelest way to break a woman's heart) leaving her to deal with her feelings and her fate on her own. As years go by, she goes into deep despair although in the outside she maintains herself as the dedicated scientist and devoted servant.

And as usual, it had to take a situation that risked the loss of Debra to make Brian realize and understand that he cannot afford to lose her in any way. Coupled with the subtle verbal reality check given by Jacob, Brian realizes what a horribly ungrateful and neglectful master he has been all these while and sets about redeeming himself to Debra.

Yeay:
1) The story made me feel so many things: sadness, sympathy, frustration and heartache as Debra's heart-breaking thoughts are described. She was hiding her depression to a point where she even contemplated dying. I felt angry with Lord Brian for not taking care of Debra and left her to handle her way into the vampire-servant society on her own, to be victimized by other predatory vampires. He had his head in his experiments and his need to prove himself to the vampire world overcome his responsibility as a vampire master.
2) Lord Brian's revelation - that he has been the undeserving one. I love it when the male character realizes that he's had his thick head in his a** all this time and is thoroughly remorseful.
3) The effort made to regain her trust is so sweet.
4) Characters from the series, namely Jacob.
5) Bittersweet moments between the two
6) Seriously hot sexytimes that may give you ideas to try out. Ehem. (after all, this is a JWH VQ series....nothing less is expected)
7) A really slimy creepy villain that you would love to hate. His character does make your skin crawl.

Meh:
1) I can't think of anything other than the fact that i didn't want the story to end. And that i want to read it again soon-after and relive the deliciously sad moments in the story.

Here's my conundrum - BDSM isn't my thing, but I really like Joey W. Hill's writing - so I liked this book (as you can see) - and I'm glad I read it. I haven't read other books in the series - I started one ... I mean to get back to it ... I think ...

I really liked that the hero realizes he was being an asshat idiot. Sad the heroine had to suffer for it, but that's what was necessary in this story

bonus gratuitous group sex and vampire/human fun ...

but nice that you can tell there's an actual relationship that developed and you really get a sense of both the hero and heroine.

I've been waiting for Brian and Debra's book. Totally worth the wait.

There's a lot of sex in this book, but it's so well integrated with their story and their feelings you don't want to miss any of it. Debra's unhappiness is deeply felt and Brian finally getting a clue and working to turn their relationship around kept me rivoted. I read this straight through, would have gladly read more about this couple. There are intense sexual situations,as vampires are kinky and like to share their servants.

Joey W. Hill is truly talented, loved this book and the entire series.

There were a couple editing issues where the letter f and e were exchanged.

Loved it!

Joey's writing has always enchanted me. It's just so beautiful and poignant. No one writes D/s and romance like Joey W. Hill. My one complaint is that I lost three hours of sleep last night cause I couldn't put this book down after a mid-night nursing session. So beware: reading this book may cause zombie-like symptoms the following morning.

Debra is a scientist and a submissive, Lord Brian is a scientist and Debra's Master. Debra's heart is broken by something that happened years ago. She loves her Master but it seems to be a one way street. Will her Master come around and be the true Master that Debra is yearning for? You'll have to read this story to find out! Loved it!!

Debra is Brian's third marked servant and research assistant. They are trying to figure out vampire fertility. Debra has been in love with Brian but he doesn't reciprocate her feelings and she is sad. There is lots of well done sex here which didn't move the story anywhere. I skimmed through this.

STEM MCs: both PhDs in some kind of biological science. Never explicitly stated for either MC.
I stumbled upon this book at a used book store, and the title snagged me. I don’t think I would have sought this out though. Vampire romances aren’t typically my thing. I’m not familiar with the subgenre and them having servants for their food and sexual needs, so this was weird starting out. I cried a lot for her as she just seemed to be being used nonstop without any care. I’m not a fan of the sharing of servants however and whenever without choice. I will say though that the character development for the MMC was really something to behold. She was incredibly strong, but he really sought to understand her thoughts and her heart and make life better for her and aimed to treat her with so much care and respect. His character arc was the redeeming quality for the first half of the book.
I know this book is in the middle of a series, but I didn’t have an issue reading this as a standalone. Since she’s essentially a sex slave for him and his vampire people, this book is almost all spice from cover to cover.

I read this in one day and it was so satisfying! Exactly what I needed and wanted. I expected so little and got so much in return totally the kind of female I love to read and Lord Brian turned out to be a sweetheart.

Lord Brian was the perfect dominant vampire I needed him to be. He really plays geek very well but I love him better as sexy vamp.

She plays hurt and submissive so well. Her suicidal thoughts were so sad I even cried. The writing was poetic and Lord Brian brought everything to the table he held nothing back he just rose to new heights in my opinion.

Jacob OMG Jacob he heated up every moment on the page between him putting her on his lap making Lord Brian jealous and the cookies I could eat him up!

The water Velcro raft thing was sort of strange but didn't take away and there was a vampire dinner orgy lol!

Overall just simply perfect ❤️ The kind of perfect couple I like.

Outside of Lyssa and Jacob, the characters that started the series, this book is my favorite. This is a reread for me. It is novella length but I loved getting to know Lord Brian, a natural born vampire who is working on curing a deadly virus affecting vampires and finding the key to infertility in the vampire population. His servant Debra is a doctor in her own right. She has a deep need to serve and was drawn to Brian from the start. She quickly agreed to become his third marked servant.

After years in his service and having her feelings spurned, Lord Brian puts her in her place- love between vampires and servants is not permitted, but times are changing. The problem is that Debra has lost hope, but something in Brian has changed. He is starting to realize that he wants more from their relationship. He has to work to earn her trust and love again.

This story blew me away with the depth of emotion and the growth of Lord Brian's love and understanding of his servant Debra. This is one of the hottest stories in this series. When Brian wakes to what Debra means to him he becomes 100% Alpha male. Tyler Winterman from Ice Queen would have been proud of him.

Favorite Quote in the Book: Graham's not going to miss an opportunity to show up and prove he has the biggest dick in the room. Shame he doesn't realize there's a difference between having one and being one.

Debra has made many prior appearances as had Brian in the Vampire Queen Series but we finally get their story. This story was a different take on the build of their love which took years for them to acknowledge. Brian had a long road of asking for forgiveness for the terrible hurt he dealt Deborah. There was one issue I felt Debra would have some ongoing misgivings with Brian about his sudden change of heart based on their findings of fertility issues having a connection to the low birth rates. After what he did to 'protect' Debra and himself from any issue that their love would bring to them and their research then deciding to help her and 'act' loving would be a tough pill to swallow. Ms. Hill did a good job of working through the hurt and finding forgiveness for their love to be restored and grow in the future.

Lord Brian and Debra are familiar figures to readers of the series and here we get to glimpse the very intricate almost fragile relationship this two have. Complicated by rules about how Master and servant should behave, whatever relationship Debra has envisioned with Brian seems impossible to achieve. Instead she becomes the perfect servant and scientific partner to her master, anticipating his every need, never asking for more than what he could offer. On the other hand Brian is starting to realize that denying how deep he feels for Debra could mean losing her forever and that he could never survive. What I love about Joey W. Hill's writing is that she delivers in every aspect of what a love story should be. Being erotica this novella is definitely enough to burn the pages however the strength lies in how she was able to describe almost in minute detail what a relationship is be it Master and Servant or equal partners. The Scientific Method is a dissection of how two people in love could remain oblivious to each other's feeling and how they could lose each other despite the love being there. It was heartbreaking, poignant, sensual and some moments of being bittersweet but of course in the end we get a very erotic happily ever after (complete with mice :) ).

From the Mastered: 10 Tales of Sensual Surrender Mastered 10 Tales of Sensual Surrender by Opal Carew Anthology

I have not read the Vampire Queen series by Joey Hill but I didn't find myself too lost and now am going to look into the rest of the series.

Debra has submitted to Brian as his full servant and while she loves working with him, he committed an act to scare her from caring too much and over time, she's lost her trust in him and is wondering if she can continue to live the average 300 year lifespan. Can Brian pull his head out of his ass and realize how unhappy Debra is and make amends?

When the scientific geeks find eternal love. Honestly, I never pictured Brian this entire time as a sex God or vampire dominant. I'm a scientific geek myself and I find Brian super sexy. I envy Debra, but not so much her situation. Having chosen this life over her own future and then to be disrespected and denied by the man she loves would send me into a mindless frenzy of nothing to truly live for anymore. The fact that it takes extremes to get Brian to open his eyes and he expects Debra to just get over it leaves me anxious. In the end I know it's worth the effort, but I may have handled things very differently had I been this Debra instead of just me. I'm glad in the end they worked things out. I'm also glad Brian found his bullocks.

Finally Lord Brian a scientist and master to his assistant and third marked servant Debra have their own story. It's been a long time coming. Debra is heartbroken by something that happened in her past but loves her master, yet it seems a one way street. Lord Brian, dedicated scientist, too involved in his work to realize that his responsibilities as Debras master are not being fulfilled nor is the longing in Debras heart. The possibilities of losing one another is heartbreaking, poignant, sensual and bittersweet. In the end will they find their happily ever after?

Once in a blue moon...or red ?

It's usually a thriller or mystery that will captivate me, enthralled me 🤔... It has been a loooooong time since a romance book has made me slow down and leisurely read. 📖 I am a speed reader, finishing 4 to 5 books a day 📕... Brakes came on and I read this book with a choked throat 😣😯😍😘🤗😡😵😧😤😞😏😁💗 because the feelings engaged had me rubbing my chest - the feelings were raw and so true, it evoked such a REAL response from me. I can't remember the last time a book did that.

Lord Brian and Debra have always been two of my favorite characters in the "Vampire Queen" series.
I was thrilled when Joey Hill wrote their story.
Like the other books in this series it doesn't disappoint.
It was so gratifying to learn about their personal relationship and how it had grown throughout the years. The ending was exactly what I had hoped for, I felt like cheering.
This book can be read as a stand-alone.

This was my first introduction to Joey Hill's vampire books. I really enjoyed this story. Brian is a vampire and Debra is his servant, both are scientists working on cures for some of the vampire issues. Brian always treated Debra as an equal in the lab, he loved her brilliant mind. Emotionally there was no equality. This story is about the journey Brian takes to realize the true worth of his servant.

I had lost track of this series awhile ago but will be catching up now.

This series is not for everyone. It's Vampire BDSM. Humans willingly agree to be servants to their Vampire...Their Master...in all things.

I've always loved Lord Brian and his servant Debra....the geeks (I use that word loosely) of the Vampire world.

Vampires aren't supposed to LOVE their servants.... but as seen in a few previous books....

Times are a changing!!

I love Joey W Hill, so not giving a 5/5 rating here causes me pain - this is one of the less interesting books in the series. The themes are not terribly exciting, but she still manages to weave together an emotional story. If I think about how the first half of Vampires Embrace almost gave me an anuerism from stress and excitement, this just doesn't really compare. Worth reading for the broader series.

Loved this book!

I loved Lord Brian and his servant Debra in this story. I've loved this author and this series from the first book. I was skeptical of Brian's feelings for Debra, but he surprised me in a good way in their relationship. I looked forward to reading this book and Ms. Hill did not disappoint. I can't wait for the next book!

I've never read a Vampire Queen series book that I didn't like. This one was no exception. I was glad to see these two get their own story. What I didn't like was that the book was so short and there was little angst but I guess that there was no need for a lengthy book for these two. Be sure to read it in the chronological order it's meant to be read in, I didn't and wish I had.

Hill's usual intense D/s vampire story with orgy as well. This one had experienced female sub not speaking up for her needs with male Dom. Worked well for me, though, as always, lots and lots of philosophy of D/s relationships done in the characters' thoughts, much of which I skimmed.
