Librarian's Note: this is an alternate cover edition - ASIN: B00HUC746E

Cal Reynolds has always been special. He comes from a long line of Hunters – a group of humans gifted with exceptional strength, speed, and magical ability. The Hunters’ purpose is to protect the world from demons from the Underworld. But even among this select group, Cal stands out.

When his strained relationship with his father causes Cal to leave the Hunters, a series of events is set in motion that causes him to discover secrets about himself, his family, and his future that he could never have imagined. In the midst of trying to decipher the pieces left from this chaos, Cal reconnects with Gabrielle Morgan, the only girl he’s ever loved, after a nearly seven year estrangement.

But Cal is Chosen – and that has far reaching ramifications, not only on himself but on those he loves as well. When Cal is faced with the ultimate deception, he begins to realize that he will need to choose where his loyalties, and his love, lie…and the seduction of darkness is almost overwhelmingly alluring…

Jennifer spends her days working a full-time job, running her three kids helter-skelter all over creation, picking up her husband's socks (WHY. ARE. THEY. EVERYWHERE?!), hiding her online purchases from said husband, and plotting ways to meet the boys of Supernatural in person.

In a nut shell, she is a: coffee addict, former nail biter, constant hair color changer, mother/chauffeur/maid/indentured servant, wife, writer.

Not necessarily in that order...oh, who is she kidding? Coffee always comes first.

She's an author of paranormal romance and contemporary romance, although historical or fantasy novels aren't out of the question either. She's got ideas. Maybe someday she'll have the time, too. She is obsessed with Supernatural, Outlander, Grimm, Survivorman, and reality TV competition shows.

She loves the color purple. She believes in boys with big hearts and smart mouths and the girls who love them. Life and love isn't always easy or happy but she still believes in Happy Ever After. Eventually.

When I told Jennifer Ortiz that I would review her book, I was taking a big chance. Not because I didn’t know much about the author, but this was a bit outside of my comfort zone. But I have learned one thing from reviewing books, living outside my comfort zone tends to find me reading books I would not have picked up otherwise. It is not because of the cover. But more the content. I am not a big paranormal book reader, but taking those risks in what I read have led to some amazing books. It is one thing I strive to do. Push myself. This book had me pushing the boundaries of what I would “typically” read and I actually found myself having difficulty putting it down.

This is a crazy world. Cal is Chosen. He is different from all the other Hunters in his abilities and his significance. But one thing Cal will never be is normal. Raised mainly by his father, his boundaries were pushed, his limits tested and the struggle remained. The tension between the two of them was high and Cal just didn’t know how to deal with it anymore.

That’s when he took the job. Mostly out of spite, kind of out of convenience. His job wasn’t to protect people. He didn’t have a greater good. He just had to slay the beast. It wasn’t easy work, but the pay out was always rewarding.

There was something else he left behind when he left the Hunters. He left Gabby. But a moment of fate brought them back together. His sweet and beautiful Gabby. Would she still be mad at him because of the way things ended? They were not involved in all those years, but there was always something special between the two of them. When the two of them reconnect, everything shifts in Cal’s world and I mean everything.

Learning that things were not always as they seemed and searching for answers while struggling to hold on to his one constant in life was going to be his biggest test.

Now, I get that I have pretty much told you this is completely paranormal and all, but it is so much more. It has steam and passion too. It is not lacing in the romance department that is for sure. There are the number of women that he used and the number of women that meant nothing to him except a means to an end. But there was nothing quick and easy about getting lost in the one person that you know you are destined to be with.

This book is told from Cal’s perspective which I really enjoyed. It was not only his words, but his thoughts. It was told as if he were actually sitting there telling you the story. I embraced a males perspective in this book where as most times I read what the men are saying and thinking in books and I think to myself, I don’t know one single man who would say something like that, but with Cal telling the story, I could envision a guy telling the story from his point of view. This is something that is not easily done in books and I was very impressed with the author’s ability to do this and do it well.

Jennifer Ortiz has done a great job with this book and I really enjoyed the story despite my original apprehensions of the paranormal part of it. It was a great read and kept me on my toes waiting to find out what was going to happen next with the crazy creatures from the underworld and the love of Cal’s life, Gabby. I am looking forward to reading more of Jennifer’s work and I am looking forward to more of this series!

I like the overall concept of this book, in that it is written in the perspective of a 20 year old young man. Cal finds out that his life has been a lie and that his path in life is different than he thought. We are allowed to eavesdrop on Cal's innermost thoughts and I found myself laughing out loud at some of his phrasing. As a fan of paranormal books, I thought that the ideas contained within the plot were original and interesting. To be honest, I wish there was a little less of the romance and a little more of the paranormal. I thought the author had some great ideas and can definitely see a series of books with Cal as the main character. I recommend this book to those who like to read in the paranormal genre, especially those who like paranormal romance.

I was originally given a copy of this book by the author for an honest review. As it has been three months since I read the ARC of Chosen, I was curious to see if my original impressions of this book still stand. To that end, I would like to thank NetGalley for providing me with an electronic copy of this book to read and review. My favorite part of this novel, by far, is still the reader's ability to eavesdrop on Cal's thoughts. I find Cal to be a complete character and one which I would be interested in reading more about in the future.

LOVED IT !!!!!!
First of all, I thoroughly enjoyed this book. Didn't want to put it down. Cal has been born the Chosen and destined to hunt paranormal bad guys. He's not sure who he can trust and he struggles to do what he feels is right. He's in love with his best friend Gabby, who is a witch. but she doesn't know how he feels. There's plenty of action, drama, humor, steamy sex, and romance. Can't wait for Part 2 to see what happens next. If you haven't checked out this book, you need to. You'll love it. I received this book as a gift for an honest review. Patsy Sacco

Great Balls of Fire! This book is totally AWESOME! Chosen by Jennifer Ortiz is the first book in The Chosen Chronicles and it is, hands down, one of the best paranormal/supernatural/fantasy/action/romance books I have ever had the pleasure to read. Ortiz is a woman on fire and a total master of words and wit! Her amazing talent, astounding imagination and unique style shine brightly in this amazing saga chronicling the life of twenty year old handsome Cal Reynolds. The story is told almost entirely in the first person by Cal himself and we, the reader, become privy to not only his interaction with the other characters, but also to all his reasoning and thoughts, including those most private. This guy is arrogant, cocky and hysterical. I couldn't decide if I wanted to love to hate him or hate to love him! Oh my God! He was incredible! Best character ever! The story is original, imaginative, powerful, exciting, compelling, action packed, addictive, arousing, romantic, and sensual. The dialog was raw, gritty, smart, very well written and sometimes, downright hysterical. The characters were well developed, captivating, fascinating, intriguing and sexy as sin! I have never, in my entire life, alternately laughed and cried as much as I did reading this book. Cal Reynolds is a Hunter-not just an ordinary hunter-but a Hunter of demons and monsters from the Underworld. Hunters are a special select group of humans gifted with exceptional strength, speed and magical ability and in Cal's case, also arrogance. But even among this small select group, Cal stands out- he is even more special-he is Chosen. Cal is in love with his beautiful "used to be best friend" and sometimes work partner, Gabrielle Morgan, witch extraordinaire. But even love may not be enough to save Cal when he and his father, Steven also a hunter and his trainer and boss, almost come to blows. Cal just can't understand why his Father seemed to just stop loving him when his mother, Celeste, died. They can't seem to agree on anything and Cal has had enough of his Dad, the Hunters and all their crap! But Cal soon discovers that there are more forces at play than even he realized. Evil, lies, deceit and dark secrets are at play and Cal has no idea whom to trust. Cal has difficult decisions to make and soon realizes that his choices affect not only him but the people he cares about as well. And sometimes the seduction of darkness is not easily overcome-not even by a Chosen. Handsome sexy hero-check! Beautiful witch heroine-check! Great cast of fascinating characters-check! Horrendous monsters and heinous villains-check! Suspense, lies, deceipt, action and plot twists-In Spades! And some super hot romance-yeah baby! Cal is a real horn dog! Oh my goodness! If you love anything supernatural, paranormal, action, adventure or suspense, whatever you do, DON'T MISS READING THIS BOOK!

When I signed up to review Chosen, it was because I was seduced by its blurb. I knew it would be a read a bit out of my comfort zone, but... demons fighters, secrets, destiny... Maybe it talked to the Buffy the Vampire Slayer fan inside of me... Anyway I was more than willing to give it a try. I started reading the book a few weeks later, with that blurb still in mind. After reading the first chapters, I stopped, quite puzzled ans read the blurb again. Caused nothing in it hinted it was supposed to be a funny book, far from the darker read I had imagined it would be. I was a little disappointed but... Ok, a funny read it would be then...

Except it didn't work out for me. Chosen is told from Cal's point of view. But the narrative is mostly Cal's inner thoughts... and boy does he ramble!
I know I'm not supposed to judge a book by its cover, but come on... scroll up to the top of the page and look at that cover. Does this man look like someone who would think :
"Yep... On my way...
No, really... I was going now... wasn't I?
I mentally slapped myself. I was being a baby. This was for Gabby. I could do this. I had to do this. I would do this. I was doing this NOW."

Well I just mentally slapped you too, Cal!

Being in Cal's head was entertaining and funny for about two or three chapters, and then it got old really fast. I think it made the character look weaker, almost incompatible with the destiny he's supposed to follow. At times it almost made me stop reading. Cal wasn't credible enough to me.
I didn't understand why chapter Ten was written in third person, since all the others were in first person. I know it was a flashback told by Gabby, but the third person omniscient narrative was too close to Cal's, and it was really confusing.
I loved Cal and Gaby's relationship though, and I kept reading mostly to know what would happen to them, but the issues in the storytelling made it really difficult for me.

Chosen by Jennifer Ortiz is a sexy and thrilling New Adult paranormal romance that instantly draws the reader in as it tells the story of demon hunter Cal Reynolds. Cal has always been the best at what he does; hunting demons and protecting the human world. Though he may be great at what he does, Cal is struggling with the relationships in his life including with those with his estranged friend Gabby and his father Steven. Ortiz does a nice job of creating riveting tension that is fueled by attraction between Gabby and Cal as they struggle to get along. As Cal struggles to reconnect with Gabby and be hunter, he is revealed to be Chosen. This added pressure causes even more of a struggle between Cal and his father.

Chosen is the first book within a trilogy. From what I have seen, it is set to be a thrilling and edgy series that will bring the readers back for more. I really enjoyed the relationships Cal struggles to keep as a evil demon threatens to cause destruction all around if Cal can't stop her. I highly recommend you check out this book if you are looking for a good romance along side some thrilling action. You will most definitely love this book if you give it a chance and that is why I am giving it five stars.

Chosen is the story of Cal, who is a hunter of demonic creatures. It is told via his perspective, which is that of an arrogant, confused, horny male at age 20. The story picks up during a time when he is fed up with his damaged relationship with his father and decides to leave the Hunters. His journey takes him to the employment of a shunned past Hunter named Simone, who he suspects is hiding things from him like his father was. Tired of secrets, he turns to an old friend and love Gabby to try to figure things out. He finds out not all parts of his life are what he thought they were, and this changes things. It is up to him to stop an imprisoned demon from releasing hell on earth.

This story includes mystical abilities, demonic creatures, angelic beings, danger, humor and a bit of love.

Overall, the storyline is good. Cal's innermost thoughts cracked me up. It kept me interested throughout and moved at a good pace. Though it had some minor editing bumps, I did enjoy it. I am looking forward to book two.

I loved this story!
Cal is a hot bad ass Hunter who fights alongside his friend Gabby.
Calvin and his father don't see eye to eye after the death of his mother nothing is ever been the same he and Gabby were fighting a demon that no one can kill.
Simone sees notice and wants him to come and work for her doing the same thing that he's doing but making more money.
Gabby does the ultimate betrayal by trying to magically see her way that it's wrong for him to work for Simone. He gets mad at this ultimate trail and tell her to go away and never wants to see her again.
Him and Simone start to have a relationship if you want to call it that Je misses Gabby tremendously after a few months he runs into Gabby and they talk and have a friendship again. She tells him the real meaning why she was always mad at him he broke her heart. Secrets start coming out. And he feels totally and utterly betrayed by everyone he's ever known this is an awesome story and I recommend any paranormal readers out there.

I received a copy of the ePub from the Goodreads group Lovers of Paranormal (LoP) in exchange for an honest review.

Chosen is Jennifer Ortiz's debut New Adult Paranormal Romance. Cal Reynolds is a hunter and the novel is written from his point of view. His personality is revelled via his words, actions and thoughts. He is on a mission to discover himself and his destiny. The novel takes a look at relationships from a male perspective.

There is undeniable chemistry between Cal and his childhood friend, Gabrielle Morgan. Gabby is a witch and their relationship is complicated. The reader will wonder if Cal and Gabby can ever move forward together.

The author has created a world of fantastical creatures and magical spells. As well, the descriptive actions scenes come to life. Unpredictable events and secrets keep the plot moving. The many twists and turns are shocking.

Cal's journey is far from over.

This was a different book than what I normally read, that being said I really did enjoy it. This is the first book in a series by a new author who does a great job of story telling. Cal is a Super Hunter, he hunts celestial demons. He seems self assured yet he is unsure of himself at times and is in love with his best friend Gabby. Cal will make you love him, laugh at him and want to smack him upside the head at times.Thank you Jennifer Ortiz for the chance to share in your first book. I can't wait to so what happens next!

I loved this book.

Jennifer Ortiz's debut novel is a well-written, action packed ride with dashes of humor and romance.

The book is written from the POV of Cal, and the author has created a wonderful anti-hero. You love him, you hate him, but the best thing about him is that he's unflinchingly honest. The side characters are all well drawn out, and my favorite was definitely Gabby--Cal's lifelong friend and the girl he truly loves.

I cannot wait to read the next in the series!

This book was kind of a bit hit and miss for me. I think this is mostly because I really, really wanted to love it – but I just didn’t (expectations will do that to you!). But that’s not to say that I didn’t like Chosen at all because I did – or more specifically I liked parts (I liked the action scenes and Simone’s character), parts that I would have ideally liked more of. Having said this, I think that many will enjoy the first book in this series- so go read it and try it for yourself.

I think possibly the biggest problem that I had with this book was Cal whose inner dialogue (although revealing of the character) drove me insane! I’m sorry but I just think that there’s too much sex thinking going on with Cal for this to seem remotely plausible, maybe this is just my skewed view of 20 year old males – but I doubt it… Also having Cal think/act constantly with his man parts doesn’t give him much credit as a character (yes, yes I get that he is supposed to be a player – but still!) I felt like it damaged his integrity severely, too much for my liking. It’s kind of a shame because Cal kind of annoyed me so I wouldn’t have minded not experiencing his inner dialogue and this reduced my enjoyment of the book considerably. However, this aspect did improve slightly as the novel when on which had me sighing in relief!

Right, having got that out of my system… I actually really liked the plot line for Chosen and I wish it had been opened up a bit more. The different types of demons were interesting and were for me The Mortal Instrument-esque which I really liked. The action scenes and fantasy/paranormal elements, again, could have been explored a bit more deeply for my tastes (and I’m not a heavy fantasy reader in general) because I think these could have really pushed up my rating for this book. Hopefully, these elements will be developed more fully in the next book.

Simone posed an interesting character for me and I hope Jennifer explores her more in the next book. I also wish that the side characters had more going for them; Gabby just appeared weak to me and I wished she was stronger to balance Cal out more, and Isaiah, I think, will be an interesting addition to the story but so far we haven’t really gotten a lot out of him. For me, Simone is definitely the most interesting character in the whole book – she is mysterious, self-aware, and seriously bad-ass – I’m now questioning why we couldn’t have her as the main character… or why couldn’t Cal have been given some of her traits?

I wish I could say that I loved this book – but unfortunately, it just wasn’t meant to be. It actually makes me a little sad because I really thought I would love Chosen. It would be unfair to say that this was a bad book, because it certainly wasn’t, it’s more just that I didn’t connect with Cal and there’s not much that can redeem a book for a reader if they just don’t get a character.

***3 Almost There Stars***

I was honestly looking forward to this book because I click so well the paranormal genre. We had this kick ass cover and a blurb that sounded exciting. But I didn't feel like I got any of that. I wasn't disappointed, per say, but I couldn't click with this one like I normally would. It was hit and miss for me. I'm going to give an honest review here as I always do. But going in, know, that it's so hard to write a review on a book that I didn't really like without it sounding mean and too critical. Which is not what I want. The writing was good. Mrs. Ortiz knows how to write and she knew where she wanted to go with it. We're in first person point of view throughout the book. So we're always in Cal's head which for me became a little to much. His thoughts just seemed like some a girl would have. Very few times did I actually FEEL like I was in a guys head. The plot, I thought, was a good premise but for me it fell short. There just wasn't enough action. Not for me. It could be because I'm use to the Paranormal books being packed with it but there just wasn't. Not enough of what the actual plot promised. Maybe if there was less inner dialogue? I'm not even sure at this point. The execution was just off. I can't say that I even really connected with any of the characters. They weren't bad. I just didn't feel any real depth from them. There was one time throughout the story that I connected with Cal. One. You'll know what part I'm talking about when you get to it. Cal seemed weak to me. Like he didn't have any real substance. He's suppose to be a bad-ass Hunter but honestly? I didn't feel his bad-assness. (Is that even a word? Lol) It was hard to get a feel for Gabby. I just felt like I didn't get enough of her to truly know the person she was. Which kind of made me sad because I felt I might have liked her.
All of that being said, I did like the book. Is it one I would reread? Probably not. And not because it was a bad book because it wasn't. It just wasn't the book for me. Would I read the second one in this series? There's a chance I would only to see if the good side or the bad side wins. Would I recommend it? Sure. Just because I didn't care for it doesn't mean it won't be someone else's cup of tea. Or shot of tequila. Or whatever it is you enjoy. Everyone has their own taste.

Chosen is a story about a young man named Cal who has to make his way through life as a Hunter. A Hunter is exactly what the name entails. He hunts wild, living, outrageously powerful monsters who no one else can. Lie after lie, the people that he thought he could trust the most are keeping secrets from him. He makes a rash decision to join a force who does not abide by the Hunter’s code. Her name is Simone. Through an unbearable time in Cal’s life, he creates a friendship with Simone that is not entirely founded on trust, but rather respect. He is left wondering how many people know more about him then they are letting him believe? How can he find the answers that he seeks about his family and his purpose?

My favorite character in this story is Simone. She is honest, brutal, beautiful and respects Cal. Her friendship means a lot to Cal and is reciprocated with a relationship of sorts. After a falling out, they find their way back to each other. Honesty is the truest form of friendship in this book since truth seems hard to find. My least favorite character are Steven and Isaiah. In my opinion, both characters lacked something. The author has made wonderful, complex characters that convey emotion well. I was captivated and drawn into the story after Cal realized that he wanted something more than to remain with the other Hunters.

I recommend this novel because it was an interesting read. This book would probably be considered Fantasy/Paranormal since it does embrace different types of monsters, angels, demons, shamans and possession. There is explicit language, violence and sexual content within these pages; therefore, I would say that it targets an adult audience. I have rated this story with five stars due to the creativity. It is well-written and in Cal’s point of view. I am interested to wait and find out what the second of this series holds since there is a slight cliff-hanger. It leaves you satisfied but still a desire to read more about Cal’s new adventures as a super-hero.

Chosen drew me into the story and never let me go until the final page – which also got me ready to pick up Forsaken, the second novel in The Chosen Chronicles which releases in Summer/Fall of 2015 (fingers crossed ‘cos dates can always change).

Because most of the set-up for this story can be found in the cover description, I’m going to jump to my reactions to Chosen for this review.

This story is told from Cal’s point of view, which gives us complete access to the main character’s every thought. He is a Hunter, and a damned good one. Fearless and determined, yet he is different in many ways from the other Hunters.

Cal discovers that everything he knew about himself, his family and his destiny is a lie and there are perhaps even more secrets to uncover. Who can he trust when everyone around him has kept secrets his entire life?

I enjoyed Chosen very much. It is a Paranormal with twists around every corner. This is one of those novels that reviews just cannot give you the emotions, the feel of the story – it’s one that you need to fall into and live every moment with the characters. You will be entertained and will be on the edge of your reading chair as you, along with Cal, discover who he really is and what that means for everyone. This is a stunning beginning to a three book series (so far) that will introduce some nasty bad guys and a young man who will rise up to be more than he ever thought possible. I would recommend Chosen for any paranormal reader. Get in on the beginning of an intense journey, pick up Chosen and enjoy.

*I received an e-ARC of Chosen from the publisher and NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. That does not change what I think of this novel.*

I was given an electronic copy of this book in exchange for an honest review, through the club Lovers of Paranormal.

2.5 stars/5

Overall, this was a quite good book: an easy, funny read with a lot of action. But, there were a few things that bothered me about it.
First of all, it was very predictable. I am that kind of person who pays attention to even the smallest details in the hope of deducing what is going to happen. Here, it might be my fault, but my favourite books all have something in common: very unpredictable and surprising, but it all made sense in the end and I had to slap myself when I realised I had plenty of clues that could've helped figure out what was going to happen in the end. It wasn't quite like this with this story. Second of all, I couldn't find any of the characters to be relatable in any way and I couldn't get attached to them that much. Maybe because it's just the first book. Also, the writing didn't seem to be very...detailed?? , I guess. I really don't know how to say it, but I would have liked more metaphors and similes in the description, maybe.

Finally, this is a great book for anyone who is looking fo something funny, light, but also wants to jump straight into the action.

This book totally intrigued me because it was a very different paranormal story. There were supernatural beings that the author invented which was really refreshing.

This story had action, a mystery, some romance, and surprising plot twists. The main character was struggling with his own internal demons and it kept me guessing as to how he was going to react to various situations. He did not conform to the rules and this kept me on the edge of my seat.

The characters were well developed so it brought a lot of depth to the story. There were times I was cheering for them and other times I wanted to shake them to ask what they were thinking because I didn’t want things to go badly. There were a few times I was biting my nails waiting for the outcome of some of the situations in the story because the main character, Cal, was so unpredictable.

Also, there were enough hints and twists in the story that I always felt like everyone had a secret ulterior motive, which was great because the storyline was far from predictable.

There is not a huge cliffhanger at the end of this but there is definitely more story that needs to be told and I am excited to find out where this goes!

4.5 Star read

I was given a copy for an honest review.

Im not a big fan of the paranormal. My sister usually reads these as she is a HUGE fan. That being said, I actually enjoyed the book. And by the way is a BIG book! But Jennifer keeps you interested the entire way. It reads well, and flows bloody brilliantly.

Cal is a very arrogant, I can do what I want kinda guy with some mad skills. If I were a stealth ninja paranormal awesome heroine, I would have his skills!

Its quirky and some hilarious dialogue Cal has with himself, but its not a fluff read. Its hmmmmm abit of everything all mixed into one. Some parts I couldnt connect with hence the 4.5 stars but I would probably put that down to me not being a parnormal fan. Oh and get ready to want to slap this man upside the head in well pretty much alot of the story ha!

Introduce Gabrielle, Cals best mate. Shuts him down everytime, only Cal loves the woman! Then add and hardarse dad, just as arrogant as his son and add everyone (well nearly everyone) having some sort of awesome skill and BOOM receipe for mayhem.

Thanks Jennifer. Not converted yet, but really kewl read!

I truly enjoyed this book. The subject of this book, hunters and more, is not often covered in books. Jennifer however found a new approach to this genre. The book is extremely well written with a very good pace to it all, not dragging out nor rushing you through the story.

The book is written from the perspective of a 20 year old guy, which does show. This might be off putting to some readers since he has quite the potty mouth. You know Cal is a little angry, struggling with his past but trying to work on it all. Jennifer was able to convey that perfectly, you know you are reading about a young men who struggles.

The supporting cast was a good addition to the whole book. There were some nice twists that were unexpected, and some that slowly you are catching on before the big reveal.

This was a well written book covering a genre that is not that often covered in books. I look forward to read the second one in this series.

I have received this book from the author for an honest review. (LoP, Lovers of Paranormal)

This was an enjoyable read.

Cal is a hunter but he's no ordinary hunter. He is the Chosen which means he pretty much has greater power than the rest and he knows it. He's character is quite cocky and arrogant although there were times I pitied him. In th sense of his relationship with his best friend. If they weren't footing around each other or when Cal kind of screwed up their relationship first. I'll get over that eventually. Still, I love the childhood friends to lover theme. One thing is for sure, there relationship is still kind of complicated.

Another thing I felt bad about Cal was his family history. I probably pitied his father Steven especially when there were some info that was too TMI which hurt them badly. I understood his father but things turned nastier later which I won't go into details.

I can't wait for the next book. Just please don't let the kind of fragile relationship between Cal and Gabby be ruined too soon because of a certain antagonist.

Chosen is told from the viewpoint of a young male named Cal Reynolds. It’s a different perspective and sometimes interesting although most times Cal seems more like a teenaged girl. There is a lot of internal dialog going on which gets tiresome. I can’t say that I fell in love with the characters. It’s a book I could easily put down. The storyline is fairly weak. Cal learns he Nephilim and great things are expected from him. He doesn’t handle it well and relies on longtime friend Gabby to guide him. Angelic father Isaiah puts in some appearances with cryptic messages. Cal’s life seems to revolve around sex, anywhere and everywhere. He just seems pretty shallow. The editing on this re-release is pretty good but the storyline tends to bog down. I was given this book in exchange for an honest review by Lovers of Paranormal.

RATING: 4 STARS

A paranormal book from the male character’s POV. I loved it. Cal’s inner dialogue was just perfectly funny. He is the stereotypical 20 year old in his behaviour; arrogant, confused, horny…And a Hunter, hunting demons to make the world a better place.

Cal is fed up with his paternal relationship. His father has been less than stellar in his life, and as a result, Cal decides to leave a life he’s always known in search of something more. Along the way, he stumbles upon many secrets, discovering that his past is not what he had thought, and is set to task on a hell-raising demon.

This book is great, honestly. Cal kept me laughing, secondary characters kept me wondering, and it was a fantastic first book. I look forward to reading more from Ortiz!

** I received this book in exchange for an honest review. Lovers of Paranormal, LoP**

'Chosen' was a fantastic read. I loved the storyline and how it played out. Full of some great action, kick-ass characters, humor and some hot and steamy scenes. The characters were great. I enjoyed the friendship between Cal and Gabby. The love/hate relationship was quite entertaining. The humor was awesome. I loved Cal's point of view on things, definitely all male on most understandings of women in general. A good first book to a must read series. Definitely a great add to your tbr list.

Chosen. Just wow. This book definitely left me speechless. Such an AWESOME read! I never read a book like it before. The author wrote this so well and got me hooked. My jaw dropped quite few times while reading this book. I truly loved it! (Even though I really wanted to smack some of the main characters head a few times to get their stuff together hahaha.) No really though, the story was something else. The plot was amazing. I give this book 4 stars. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND ! :)

I was given this book in exchange for an honest review (Lovers of Paranormal LOP). I absolutely loved this book. Call is a hunter and his friend is a witch. You often wonder whether or not they will ever be more than friends. Jennifer Ortiz is an amazing writer and I can't wait to read more of her stuff. Great read!
