Valerie Wilson Wesley is an African-American author of mysteries, adult-theme novels, and children's books,[1] and a former executive editor of Essence magazine. She is the author of the Tamara Hayle mystery series. This is the first I’ve read of the series. Tamara Hayle is a black PI and single mom in Newark, NJ, who is hired by a radio show host, Mandy Magic, to find out who has been sending her ominous notes. We find out more and more about Mandy’s past, then the book heads for a dramatic twist of an ending. Well written and paced. Definitely want to read more in the series.

This might be my least favorite in the Tamara Hayle mystery series because the mystery was a bit to convoluted to be enjoyable. I truly didn't care about this one being solved at all, but I still love Tamara Hayle's back story and I'm invested in whatever is going on between her and Jack Richards.

Good read

Overall I was happy to spend time reading this book. Easy read great flow, a little disappointed in the fact the story line was given away but wonderful unexpected twist at the end. The book provided enough mystery and speculation to keep me interested however some typos through me off. Looking forward to reading more from this author

Tamara's cases are forever placing her in danger. She needs to join forces with Sue Grafton's, Kinsey Milhone. They are two tough cookies that have survived a lot of almost fatal situations.

Starmanda "Mandy Magic" Jackson needs Tamara's assistance. Someone has been leaving threatening letters on her doorstep. However, everyone that is involve has many secrets that causes three out of the five their lives. No one wants to tell Tamara the truth and she's off on a wild goose chase to find out the connection amongst the four as well as save the life of Mandy.

Slightly long-winded but full of mischief. The author took the time to develop everyone involved as the possible killer but it was someone else from their past. I have always enjoyed reading Valerie Wilson Wesley's book and kind of enjoyed this one as well.

Angels With Devilish Sides

This is the first book I've read by Valerie Wilson Wesley; I'd gotten it from my mom, and I wasn't that intrigued by the cover. Finally I'd come across it again and decided to at least read the first chapter, which lead to the second, the third, and then I was finished. It was a fast, mysterious read, and I mostly liked it! All of the mystery, the suspects, the mother in her, as well as the secret love she held in her heart, however I didn't love the ending! I was shocked by who the killer turned out to be, but I'd thought of different angles--OH WELL... I will be giving Tamara Hayle another try, to see if maybe this was clumsy as one of the previous reviewers said.

As a Jersey girl who grew up in Essex County I enjoy the Tamara Hayle series. They're always a fast, enjoyable read with an unexpected twist or two along the way. It's not Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, but with this series you know what you're going to get and Valerie Wilson Wesley consistently delivers. It's not deep but good entertainment.
