But fate has other plans. Thrown together by bizarre circumstances, they survive booze and babysitting with aplomb. Will they realize they’re perfect for each other or will they let precious love slip through their fingers?
My love affair with books began when I was a tot. A fabulous mother, who recognized the power of the written word, read to me and my sisters every night, introducing us to the wonderful world of the imagination.
Once I could read on my own, I graduated from fairy tales to adventure stories to romance, spending all my pocket money on books. My father served in the army and took the family along mostly wherever he went, resulting in experiences that beg to find a place in my books.
I am a doctor, but make time for my other passions – reading and writing stories, watching romantic comedies, and doing creative things with wool and a crochet hook. I also love solving the Hindu crossword, and - when my muse is elusive - I enjoy pitting my wits against my husband's at Scrabble®. When I have no other choice, I can be found in the kitchen putting together my 'world-famous' one-pot meals.
Writing about love and happy endings feeds my romantic soul. 'Scorched by His Fire' is my first published piece of romantic fiction, and is courtesy of Mills and Boon® India's Passions Contest which I won in 2013. 'The Cure was Love', also from Mills and Boon® India, released in November 2014.

A Mills & Boon is the perfect pick me up for one of those days when everything seems wrong with the world. With its combination of escapism, good old fashioned mush, some lust and the mandatory Happily Ever After, it can be just what the doctor ordered! Reet Singh’s new book, The Cure Was Love, definitely delivers on all those counts.
When doctor-in-training Simi Gill finds herself in a strange bedroom in New York with half her clothes missing and a six foot hunk murdering an Elvis Presley number with his off-tune warbling, she is all ready to ward off a predator. The dishy stranger, however, turns out to be her saviour. What’s more, he is a surgeon with a fetish for turtleneck sweaters and goes by the name of Rudy Bhatnagar. His only “fatal flaw” – apart from his terrible singing skills – is his “shockingly bad handwriting”! Hunk or not, Simi has no intention of giving in to the sizzling attraction between them and breaking her vow of never falling for adorable men. She has only weeks to go before returning home to Chandigarh, and she is definitely not into a holiday romance. Besides, the devastatingly attractive Dr. Rudy Bhatnagar still seems to carry a torch for his ex-wife. But Murphy’s Law strikes and Simi and Rudy keep crossing each other’s paths. Can Simi resist Rudy’s charms and stick to her agenda? Read the book to find out.
Reet Singh tells a charming love story. The writing is fluent, the banter between the couple is witty. A couple of times I really wanted to knock the two on their heads and give them a good shake for dithering! :D Grab a copy, you won’t regret chasing these two from New York to Chandigarh with a slight detour in Kolkata.
(Note: I received a free copy of the book from the author for my honest review.)
I loved this story – it had me from the very first page making me smile, then laugh outright – the warbling stranger with fascinating ancestry - and then wonder what on earth would come next! I wasn’t disappointed. What a fun read and the banter is delightful, sharp and snappy and of course, Catherine had me from her first appearance. This is a charming love story - the perfect medicine to chase away the blues. Highly recommended.
One-line verdict: A tale of how true love fabulously overcomes all obstacles and reaffirms itself amidst emotional chaos. Rating: 5/5.
Should this book be deemed to be a fantasy, given its entrancing, straight-out-of-a-fairy-tale storyline? Or should we designate it as a rendition of a mellifluous love ballad, that draws two hearts together? This amazing story moves far beyond being restrained into the "romance" term, taking us through the moments of passion, love and emotional dependence of Rudy and Simi.
Written by Reet Singh, for the Mills and Boon Indian Author Collection, the tale sparks off with a life-changing student programme that Simi Gill takes up, which takes her to a land far beyond the seas, where the man of her dreams resides.
To be released in Nov 1, 2014, the story is set in contemporary time frames, predominant in USA and ends amidst the delightful colours of India. This review was based on a pre-release copy from the sweet Reet! :)
The novel will make heads turn, for sure! Be it the charming vulnerability of Simi Gill or the rugged emotional conflicts of Rudy Bhatnagar, the characters are absolutely endearing. It's immensely difficult to not find this formidable book remarkable, if not exquisite. So for the very reason that the book stands for its convictions reinforcing the power of love, I loved it.
Simi Gill is an ambitious student from India, on an overseas student programme in USA. She ends up owing her life and dignity to Rudy Bhatnagar, an Indian-American living there. Despite being undeniably attracted and pulled towards each other, they both hold their feelings back, owing to several factors that wreak havoc in their minds. The story takes us through their warm romance on one side and the heart-wrenching days that ply them away from each other.
I loved the book's flowing style of narration. Reet's mastery of language is a sheer pleasure to read. The ease with which she weaves the plot and builds the pitch is very impressive. If I had one point to pick on, it would be that I would have loved to read more about the depth in the characters of Rudy and Simi, primarily because one just can't get enough of Reet's writing! For instance, one can't ignore that lingering voice that says that there must have been a number of deeper points which led Simi to her always-lurking paranoia, although Simi tries to make it light of it by masking it with Murphy's laws. As a reader, I'd have loved to read about the characters more through Reet's style of story-telling.
The book definitely is in the list of my "I-wouldn't-have-missed-it-for-the-world" list. For making a love story sound this captivating, drenched in many memorable moments, and at the same time not compromising on conventional elements, the book deserves a 5 on 5.
There is so much I love about this new release that I don’t know where to start. “The Cure was Love” is the first book I have read by Reet Singh, and I will definitely check out her other books like “Scorched by his Fire” too. “Cure” tells the story of Indian medical student Simi who spends some time in New York to study. She meets Rudy under the most hilarious and thrilling circumstances. This is the opening scene, and I’ve rarely read any better ones. The author deftly sets the scene, introduces all the conflict potential and manages to characterize the protagonists – and all that while having sparks fly and chemistry sizzle right from the start. I’m usually not so happy with romance novels where it only takes a few pages for the hero and heroine to be all hot and bothered, but this book is a welcome exception. The instant attraction grabbed my attention, was totally believable, and stayed throughout the book as a steaming undercurrent that makes the reader burn along with them. As for burning, I just love Rudy. He’s beyond gorgeous in the physical sense, and I adore his character too. He makes for a hunky hero with a heart, and those are sadly few and far between. In a literary world of cold, cruel doms and implausible fairy-tale princes, Rudy is THE hero I’d been looking for. He’s strong and stubborn yet also sensitive and sensible. I was feeling the same as Simi almost all the time, and I understood his fascination with her too. As for Simi, she’s a wonderful heroine too. Brainy and beautiful, a little shy and yet full of hidden temperament, and a magnet for terrible (or should I say terribly funny and awkward?) things happening to her. This is a masterfully woven love story that you can read in one breathless go. I liked all the twists and turns, and that we got a look into the characters’ thoughts. Singh has created two awesome family backgrounds for the protagonists that enhance the story and made me smile throughout the novel. I believe in true love, so the deep connections between Indians and Americans touched my heart. As for the happy end, you’ll squeal with glee about it although the author lets you suffer beforehand. I had guessed it correctly and was immensely satisfied that these two lovely characters got their chance.
Simi Gill, 24, is the only child of an only parent, Simi, is very attached to her father, a retired Colonel, who had devoted his entire life to her after the death of her mother in childbirth. He runs a plant nursery in Chandigarh and she is studying medicine in Bangalore. She has been jilted by her boyfriend because of her polycystic ovaries and her father issues. Simi is used to things going wrong all the time- like murphy wrote the law based on her life.
Half Indian, Dr Rudy Bhatnagar, a surgeon, the son of a gynaecologist and an orthopaedic surgeon, is rich and recently divorced. As far as women are concerned, he has had enough of any kind to last him a lifetime.
Simi is in her last month of her medical studentship at Sloan Kettering Medical Centre in New York and goes to her favorite grill and bar, The Blue Danube, with her best friend and roommate, Shubra. She is allergic to alcohol and passes out only to wake up to the sound of an off key baritone, with a throbbing head only to find herself lying in a state of undress wearing a man’s flannel shirt. To top it all, ‘Mr Baritone’ tells her that she had she is in a room above the bar. When Rudy (Mr Baritone) Rudy is on the way to drop her, she gets in the way of the bullet and hurts her arm and he has to rush her to his surgery instead. She ends up meeting his parents and finds that she and his father belong to the same medical college in Bangalore. They are attracted to each other and she knows Rudy is out of bounds for her because he is not interested and she cannot have him because she does not want to stay away from her father. Moreover, she could do without the pain of leaving her heart behind in America. So, she leaves for India without informing him.
I loved the story and especially the way the author has described the feelings of both the characters. The relationship between Simi and her father and that between Rudy and his family has been beautifully portrayed.
Overall, a nice book. Highly recommended. i would be buying a paperback as soon as it is releases in the Indian market
I have wanted to write this review for ages but somehow got delayed so I gave the rating earlier.
The first page of a book usually sets the pace and clinches the deal, both for the writer and the reader. Reet has done a wonderful job. She is one of the senior writers among the Mills & Boon Indian Authors and has done complete justice to the genre.
A very well-written story! The best thing about it is the elegantly woven language and the understated humour which is not easily achieved by everyone.
Simi is sweet! Absolutely loved Rudy! And who would not love Catherine who broke the ice between them!
Everything in this romance is measured to perfection. Pick it up on a bad day and you won’t regret it!
This is my during-pandemic Work in Progress Published first in 2014, it's currently out of stock - I'm hoping to release the revamped version before 2020 ends. Lots and lots of changes, so stay tuned, folks
The Cure was Love is Reet Singh's upcoming romance which will release on 1st November. I had read and loved Reet's first romance Scorched by his Fire previously and so when Reet told me about her next book I was ecstatic. A deliciously beautiful cover, the title and blurb also captured my interest in the book and made me pick this book up even when I was on a vacation and had promised my husband my cent percent time. :)
As soon as I started on the book I knew it was going to be awesome. The starting scene itself is so admirably laid out that you are left speculating, laughing and thoroughly enjoying the chemistry between Simi and Rudy. Reet made me remember the award winning McGregor series by Nora Roberts. The Cure was Love has that same lovely effect on you. The urgency that it creates in the readers to see their beloved protagonists get their happily-ever-after and the goofy smile it leaves behind is such a welcome experience.
The story is beautifully sketched and brought to life. The characters developed such that they make a lasting place in your heart. I absolutely loved Rudy with his unconscious handsomeness, his heart of gold and a stubborn streak that endeared him to me. He is so blissfully unaware of the dizzying effect he has on women which is so novel and made him a hero I will always cherish. Simi is refreshingly naive but very headstrong. Although dealt some crushing blows in life, she seeks happiness in the small things in life and made a perfect partner to the serious and somewhat worldly Rudy. I thoroughly enjoyed the banter between them and could be seen giggling, laughing out loud and smiling so much that I had my husband's interest also captured in the book which is a great deed considering that he is more of a movie buff than a book enthusiast.
Rudy's family is boisterous and a happy bunch. It warmed my heart to see that they had transcended all religious and geographical barriers to make bonds of love. Simi's father is a strict but a very caring father and made me feel as if I knew him already. These are people we have met or heard about from people we know. Normal people who have braved the scorch of hardships to bask in the warmth of love, I would love to read their individual stories and hope that Reet will write about them soon.
The settings, the situations and the emotions, everything is perfectly balanced and brilliantly brought out by the author. If you loved Reet's first book, Scorched by his Fire then you will doubly love this new book from her. Reet has matured as a writer which shows in her upcoming book. A very talented writer, she has now made her way in the list of authors I follow.
A well written book that charms you and leaves you completely engrossed in the romance, I give The Cure was Love 5 super shiny stars and strongly recommend this book to you all. Don't miss reading this super entertaining story which you wont be able to keep down until the very end! :) I received an ARC from the author and I am very thankful to her. The above review is my honest and unbiased opinion and in no way influenced.
If you are looking for a passionate romance, witty dialogues with fluent narration, handsome doctor and a happily-ever-after, then ‘The Cure Was Love’ is the story for you. And this is the first time I have read a story with Indian characters in American setting, complete with Macy’s parade and Thanksgiving celebrations, totally entertaining.
Gorgeous Simi (going to be a doctor) meets Rudy (a handsome surgeon with bad handwriting), in his pyjama top, on a cold November night, with Murphy’s law in full force. The night includes a dog, a bullet and a twisted ankle, and Simi ends up under his scalpel. Intriguing!
Reet Singh has penned a charming story, which is thrilling and humorous at the beginning, goes on to become emotional with the right amount of mush, to being passionate, then tugs at your heart when the lovers are separated due to external circumstances and their own misgivings. Eventually they get united in India, with dashing Colonel Shamsher Singh playing the part of cupid to perfection.
Simi’s character truly reflects the Indian girl’s shyness, courage and honesty, whereas Rudy is the perfect hero showing compassion, understanding and maturity in the face of Simi’s uncertainties. The fire between the two ignites slowly and sizzles as they helplessly fall for each other. A highly recommended read for romance lovers.
The story revolves around medical student Simi and her constant run-ins with dishy surgeon Rudy. Though the characters are in the medical profession, this is not a medical romance. Reet Singh has depended rather heavily on the factor of coincidence in setting up the story. But Simi and Rudy are such engaging characters that you don’t mind that at all! In fact the sheer factor of enjoyable interaction between them – and yes, also his family – carried me through this book. While the knowledge of writing craft was nudging at me that the scenes lacked tension or the story didn’t have a definite trope, the reader in me was off whizzing through the pages and rooting for these lovable characters.
Having finished swotting over editing a manuscript, I was just in the mood to wind down and this fit the bill perfectly.
I give it five stars. Pick this up if you want a light, fun read to relax with.
The story of Simi Gill and Dr. Rudy Bhatnagar is genuinely charming at the beginning. Simi’s journey in New York, her interactions with Rudy, and the warmth between them immediately draw you in. The premise is beautiful — two people finding comfort and love away from home, navigating their emotional wounds.
However, as the story progresses, I felt the characters never truly developed. We’re told they care for each other, but we don’t experience enough internal growth or emotional depth. Their fears and struggles are touched on, but not explored fully. Because of this, when the story moves toward the end, the emotional payoff feels weak.
The ending, in particular, feels rushed — not due to the length of the book, but because the emotional journey feels incomplete. It’s like reaching a destination without fully walking the path. Despite this, the beginning and middle have strong moments, and the story still holds charm and warmth that make it enjoyable.
Overall, I wanted to love this story fully, and while it disappointed in parts, the potential and glimpses of real emotion make it worth reading.
‘Cure’ or ‘CurSe’, these two contrasting words have been used interchangeably by the writers and authors, for the phrase ‘LOVE’. Reet Singh, a romantic-at-heart author weeds out the alphabet ‘S’ (from the doomed word) and etches her heroine Simi for her latest offering ‘The Cure was Love’. Simi is as sizzling as the word itself is.
Doctors are generally, considered as the synonyms of God (for the masses) because they are our life saviors. Ironically, they sometimes are not powerful enough to save themselves from the infectious heart - disease identified as ‘Love’. The doctor duo Simi and Rudy from Reet’s latest are as infectious as disease in itself. Within the book, as soon as you are introduced with the characters you will be infected with the rosy feeling and sense love all around you. As shared, they both are medico professionals; Simi is a trainee who is researching for cancer but Rudy is an experienced professional, a surgeon.
As the story begins, Simi finds herself on bed. Not of a hospital but some makeshift type of a living arrangement. She spots somebody else there but frightens to find that she is without her clothes. An ailment called fear a.k.a. insecurity attacks her! It seems harder for her to reconcile what had happened with her and how she landed here? Does she succumbs to her ailment or finds a cure? Of course, the author leads her to find that the love was a cure but whose love is it? Is it of a stranger who is there room or that of her boyfriend who has dumped her? Explore who Rudy is and what role he plays in her discourse.
Both, the characters are brainy (and fleshy), powerful and infectious enough to leave a lasting impact in your heads and hearts alike. You will find it interesting to unveil how their professional and personal lives get intermingled and how they come out of the gyrations and convolutions with relaxing and rejuvenating smiles on lips. As expected, they deal with the twists and turns intelligently but remain calm and composed during the course of actions. Obviously, the credit for such a victorious account goes to the author – Reet herself, for etching such characters oozing love (romance) from every single word and every single emotion penned.
In addition to being an accomplished author she holds a knack for the medical profession as well. She has very smartly injected the medico angle in this love story. Yes, it is not as easy as said. She successfully maintains the codes of the profession and develops not only the story but love as well.
This is my second chance to review her work and I feel myself developing as a person for I have started appreciating my own feelings and emotions. She crafts the story and the scenes in such a manner that the dialogues though written in the book, seem to be coming out of your own hearts and you become a part of their journey. I would love to read more from her.
Few months back I got a change to see Harlequin India's website to check out some more titles in Romance genre but LO OH as I was browsing through the website I found out Author Reet Singh book The Cure Was love which actually is her second book. I was curious what was story like as somebody had told me about her Writing 's ,her stories ,her beautiful narration etc.....so keeping that in mind I purchased the book .When the book arrived I couldn't take my eyes off the cover photo .The cover of book itself had such a effect on me then 'what would have been the effect of the book on me after reading it?' Imagine

Another beautiful story by the talented Reet. The cure was Love is utterly delicious and awesome story, it’s a perfect story to enjoy on a lazy weekend evening with a cup of chai and forget all your worldly worries while you soak up in a beautiful story with utterly lovable characters and a wonderful and fast paced story line which makes it hard to put it down. After reading her first book I knew anything this talented author will write would be definitely worth reading and I wasn’t wrong , even reading it multiple times I still love it and enjoy the story as I did the first time I read it back in 2016 . The story pulls you in from the first page when the protagonists meet and leave you craving for more once you see the undeniable chemistry between Rudy and Simi. There were some hilarious moments which had me laughing out loud and the beautiful way Reet writes her stories and it unfolds it makes the readers fully invested in the story and root for the protagonists to get happily ever after .
The story is beautifully written and brought to life. The characters developed such that they make a lasting place in your heart. I absolutely loved Rudy with his unconscious handsomeness, his heart of gold and a stubborn streak that made him more endearing for me. Simi is refreshingly naive but very headstrong. Although she has dealt with some crushing blows in life, she seeks happiness in the small things in life and made a perfect partner to the serious and somewhat worldly Rudy. I thoroughly enjoyed the banter between them. I loved Rudy’s family . There are some some stories which you want to continue reading and never want them to end this is one of those stories even after the story finishes the characters stay with you for a long time.
I am so glad I stumbled upon and discovered Reet on Amazon US which is a task in itself. I am not ashamed to say I have been stalking & following her shamelessly and I can’t wait for this talented author to publish her next book soon . I hope she won’t make me wait too long..
With the arrival of the New Year I read the latest romance by the very graceful, talented and word wizard Reet Singh. I was excited to read this book as it had been receiving rave reviews and the blurb along with the Hero called Rudy was giving me tickles in my tummy, if you know what I mean ;) I wanted to meet the good doctor Rudy Bhatnagar as soon as possible & I was not disappointed! He is handsome, cultured, sophisticated, kind and a gentleman. He is effortlessly hot is an added plus ;) He saves our gal Simmi and it is sizzling chemistry all the way. Simmi is a perfect match for him, sassy, confident, pretty, emotional, sweet and so vivacious. These two have enough substance in them to make the novel a best seller on their own but Reet has managed to add some lovely elements that make it a well loved book, one that I will be reading again. PS: I have shared this book with my Mom too, who is a diehard fan of M&B and introduced to me to this absolutely perfect genre of books ages ago. Add to that a family full of loving and understanding members and you have a winner all the way. The family adds to the charm of the book, making it a well balanced and well rounded read. I especially loved Simmi’s father – a perfect old school army man! His own love story would be a delight to read as was the little insights Reet shared about him! If it is a book by Reet then I don’t even need to bother about editing, grammar, sentence construction etc as her writing style is natural and very charming. She uses her language to add to the charm and strength of the book making it such a smooth read that I always wish that I had read the book slower. But no luck there as the book pulls in the reader and it is hard to put down!! The Cure Was Love was as close to a Medical Romance I got after a really long time and just loved it!! Eagerly waiting for the next one Reet; what surprise do you have in store for us?
‘The Cure Was Love’ comes as a welcome departure from a lot of crap doing the rounds as ‘bestsellers’. The author has a distinct and highly stimulating voice, with good measure of witticism. The narrative is eloquent, rich, and inspiring to say the least. The characters are real, somewhat uncertain, but wholesome. Jilted by a past lover, Simi is perpetually in a state of denial when she instantly falls for a rare specimen in Rudy. She constantly reprimands herself for wanting him, but finds him irresistible. The attraction, in my humble opinion, is predominantly physical as demonstrated by her thoughts revolving around his rippling muscles than anything else. The urgency with which they ended in bed together—after a solitary kiss on their first meeting— did surprise me. One would’ve expected their romance to blossom a little, perhaps a few more kisses, before they get horizontal. I must admit, however, that the author (herself a surgeon) has described their feverish union with surgical precision without being too graphic. Simi’s abrupt departure from Rudy’s pad, as if she caught him naked with his ex in bed, was somewhat premature. At the same time, Rudy’s failure to catch her before she flies off to India was not entirely believable. The end was mostly predictable, though the manner in which the author has chosen to conclude the tale leaves a few questions unanswered. Like how the Colonel convinced himself that Rudy, a complete stranger from a foreign land, was the best thing that happened to his daughter without asking her anything? And how in less than a week Rudy is able to locate the father in Chandigarh, and find an employment? On the whole, the book was engaging, and perhaps one of the best that has come out in English by an Indian author. I’d recommend this book to anyone who wants to read a good love story narrated in great style.
Simi Gill is jilted and a doctor to be who is currently doing her medical internship in New York. One night she went for the night out with her best friend and passed out after having one too many drinks. Next morning Simi found herself in a bedroom of a gorgeous half-Indian surgeon Dr. Rudy Bhatnagar in man’s shirt. Once Simi learned how she reached here, Rudy decided to drop her off at her place when suddenly in the way Simi is struck by a bullet in the most unexpected circumstances. Rudy rushed her to his surgery for the treatment where Simi happens to meet his parents. As the time passes Simi finds herself falling for Rudy but Rudy is not ready for another relationship after her bitter experience in the past and even if Simi wants to stay back and change his mind, she can’t as she has to go back to India to her father. This is a really light, entertaining and a sweet love story. I have read it in a single sitting. Reet’s writing is simple yet captivating. This book is perfect to read through your monotonous train journey or to cuddle with it on autumn nights.
Sweet, happy and so easy to love, Simi and Rudy draw you into their story with such ease that you feel like you've known them all your life. There is something so feel good and happy about this story that it makes you want to wrap it around yourself like a comfort blanket and snuggle in. The witty banter, the comfortable camaraderie and the sizzling chemistry all make for a charming story. I love the fact that both the leads are so sorted in their heads. They both grew up in loving homes and value and appreciate the relationships in their lives. On a side note - When you run and Dr. Rudy Bhatnagar follows you to make you his? What more could a girl ask for?
Reet Singh has written a fabulous novel and it has all what makes a good MB but one thing is definitely missing from the story and that is SPARK. There is no spark between the two characters and there is no fire. I am sorry to say that I am bit disappointed in the book. I really loved “Scorched by his Fire”” and was expecting the same from this book but the book fell short in that department.
I would be eagerly waiting for the next book from Reet Singh and I sincerely hope that it would have some SPARK in it.
Doctors. A dog. A baby…..all of this wonderfully interwoven into the lives of a ‘baritone who is tall and broad and scrumptious’ and ‘a woman mussed up from sleep , brushing tangled curls out of sleep-hazed eyes’. Witty repartee and beautiful settings…. Reet Singh at her best. Is there a story in Shubra and Richard’s romance, Reet Singh ?
An Indian man who knows his way in the kitchen and does the dishes too!! Rudy is quite a catch!! Marmalade and multigrain bread! Absolutely divine! Reet Singh seems to be quite the gourmand. The simmering fire between doctors Simi and Rudy keeps the reader on the edge of the seat. Wonderfully written and not too many medical terms make it a treat to read.
This is a love story based in New York. A story about two people and complications in their romance. The conversation between the couple leaves you with a smile. The book is pleasant, and the writing is fluent. I like the way medicine was intertwined into the romantic theme of the novel. The ending would make you smile with a happily-ever-after ending !
Simi s character has been well portrayed. A simple love story, a story that shows you can't escape true love once you've fallen for it. A feel good book !
